Importing an iCal agenda in Entourage

When I just got my new iPhone, I wanted to get my Entourage appointments on it. Since putting things directly from Entourage to an iPhone is impossible, I wanted to copy everything to iCal. When I imported my Entourage agenda in iCal, nothing happened. I tried the same thing once more (Import... Import from Entourage...) and then it took a very long time before my agenda was finally in iCal. However, going back to Entourage, I saw that my - until then - existing agenda had disappeared! All appointments were gone. I don't know why this happened, the first time I did this, it didn't happen (well nothing happened). A stupid detail is that the iCal appointments are also two hours earlier then they used to be in Entourage (although the time zones in both programs were the same).
Well, my question is (although some people told me it's impossible): is it possible to move my appointments back from iCal to Entourage?
When I try the Export-function in iCal, an ics-file is created. When I import that in Entourage, I only see one of the notitions I had (and still have) in Entourage, and I still don't see the agenda. I don't know how I could get it back in Entourage, but maybe someone has an idea? I thank you in advance.
To make sure what we're talking about: I'm using Entourage 2004 (11.2.5) and iCal 4.0.4.

Why is it that so many posts go unanswered?
I can only answer that from my own perspective. Typically I will glance through this forum once a day, but sometimes a week or even two passes and I don't have time to look at it. I almost never look past the first page in the list of posts. If I see a question with no replies, and a topic to which I might know the answer, I look at the post and answer it if I can, or maybe request further information. If I see a question that involves areas (there are so many) on which I am ignorant (syncing, publishing, subscribing, mobileme to name but a few) I ignore it.
So a question, to be answered, must be seen by someone who knows the answer (or is prepared to try to find one) and has the time to respond. It is a matter of chance. No-one is paid or rewarded for answering. If a question is important to you, and is not getting help, keep bumping it so it stays on the first page, though then it will be seen as having a lot of replies, and people that know the answer might not look, so maybe reposting would be better.
I often find that I reply to a post and never hear anything back, and so don't know whether my post solved the problem or not, and after a few of those I tend to stay away from the discussions for a while.
Was I too confusing in the way I asked my question?
The question was perfectly clear.

  • Ical inspector screen is black AND I can't import my ical info to Entourage

I currently have two problems with ical:
    1. my inspector window is black. Except the headings such as "date" and "time" I can't see any of my imputed data unless I highlight it. I can still use ical perfectly fine. This problem is just annoying.
    2. I want to try using Entourage (ical is really getting on my nerves and it doesn't have all the little things that would make my life easier). I tried importing the data but it didn't work.
Could anyone help me with these two problems.
Even though this isn't related to my problem, I am also wondering if anyone can recommend me a cheap but efficient and easy calender that I can use in place of ical in case it doesn't get fixed? Also, can anyone recommend me a project planning software, like Omnifocus, but cheaper?

    Hi d,
The white status indicator light being on means you haven't shut down the MBP. Hold down the power button for 5-10 seconds until all activity stops. Wait 30 seconds or so and try booting.
If still no luck, try an SMCReset: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

  • Imports - Mail 2.1 from Entourage 10.1.6

I can import all my email (from Entourage to Mail) that is not in a folder and the email folders but cannot import the email inside the folders. Does anyone know how to do this?

You will need to somehow create a local folder on Entourage for you to drag any stuff still residing on the server for it to be able to import. The other option is to check with Exchange using Mail, and forget about using Entourage for importing the server based mail. Anything on the server should be visible in both Entourage and Mail in the same way.

  • Import trouble into Mail and Entourage

    Hi All,
Just swtiched to Mac from a PC and I am trying hard to get my Outlook files from my PC imported into Entourage. I've been using the system where your first import the Outlook files into Netscape 7.2, transfer the folder to the Mac, and then important into Mail (eventually into Entourage).
Here's the issue: When I do the import into Mail from the Netscape export, only ONE e-mail shows up in each of my imported folders (some should have thousands of messages). I've tried several times and I can't figure out what is wrong...nor can I seem to find any evidence of anyone else having this problem.
I checked the Netscape export files and they are very large on my big e-mail folders, so I know the data is there.
Please help...I will be very grateful for any assistance!
    Warmly,
    Dave Stachowiak

    Hi Dave.
I don’t know whether it would matter, but I’d use Thunderbird instead of Netscape as the intermediate mail client.
Also (and this does matter), you’d get better results using Eudora Mailbox Cleaner to do the conversion.
Eudora Mailbox Cleaner requires rebuilding the imported mailboxes in Mail afterwards, but instead of rebuilding them one by one, you can re-create the entire index as follows:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see any other “Envelope Index”-named file there, delete it as well.
    4. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index — Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

  • Import personal address book from entourage to addressbook/mail

Whats the most reliable way to import the personal address from Entourage to Addressboo/mail
    Thanks

You can do so one of two ways.
With the Address Book application and Entourage launched with each partially visible on the Desktop, select a contact in the Entourage address book and at the menu bar, go to Edit > Select All.
Click and drag all selected/highlighted Entourage contacts to the Address Book "All" Group and then release.
If this doesn't work, create a folder on the Desktop. Click and drag all selected/highlighted Entourage contacts to the folder which will create a copy of each contact as a separate vCard file.
At the Address Book menu bar, go to File > Import and select vCards navigating to the folder on the Desktop which contains the exported Entourage contacts.

  • Importing process not achieved (from entourage to Mail)

I have a big database of 6 gb in entourage with a lot of folders ans subfolders.
When i tried to import it in Mail in snowleopard, everything looks ok but Mail didn't import me more than 5% of my database. It creates me all the folders and subfolders but the majority are empty (except 5%).
I tried several times and imposible to import all my emails from entourage.
Don't understand what's happening. Any idea?
I know I could drag my folders from entourage on the desktop and try to import the mbox but i have too many subfolders to do that...

There is a script that will export all folders including subfolders as MBOX files. This link is a direct download. Check your downloads folder for the file. Place the script in the Script Menu Items folder in the Microsoft User Data folder in Documents. Select the script from the Menu bar to run.
    Export folders as MBOX files
If the script fails to complete, it means you have corrupted messages in the last folder that was exported.

  • Import the address book from entourage to .mail?

Does anyone know how to import the address book from entourage?
I have had major problems with entourage - and I have decided to use .mail.
I have managed to get the email accounts transfered, but I can't figure out how to get the address book.
This is about 15 years of acquiring address, so, it would be a major thing to manually do this, not to mention that I can't find an address book in .mail
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    AWebdancer

Thanks - I moved the addresses, it wouldn't let me move the groups, but at least I have the major addresses.
One thing that would make .mail better is to be able to do a search on it for an old email that you now need. I hope that comes out with the new osx software.
    Thank you so much Alberto.

  • ICal vs. Entourage 08

I have been running my own studio for a year now and I have an ever increasingly busy schedule. I have been doing this for 10 years. 8 of it was on Windows and Outlook was all I knew. I have been on the Mac now for 2. My last employer had IMAP and we used Entourage. Since I left I have been using gMail which has been great, but not very professional. SO last month I switched over to Mail and iCal. Both seem fine but a little "light" in the loafers. Maybe I don't know all the tricks.
My question is the avid Mac users view on Entourage's calendar? Is 08' a better calendar app and should I start using it for mail as well. I have read some stuff about the way it stores email in a single file/db but I don't really get all that. I just feel like the contact organization in Address Book and views in iCal were made for my mom. Are there lots of things you can do to add in more feature rich things that will help when creating tasks, scheduling, sorting and the like? I can't stand that I don't know how to sort on a last name or company in Address Book.
My other question is I want an iPhone this Spring... am I going to regret moving to Entourage for all this when it comes time to sync???

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
While I have not used Entourage '08, I will say that the more you have time to get into iCal and Address Book, the more you will learn how to use them with great agility to do just about anything you need. My recommendation is to look into buying one of the books from the "Missing Manual" series. These are edited by David Pogue (the Mac ones anyhow) and give a lot of hidden insights and useful tips, including websites of note, for everything Mac.
To sort your names in Address Book, Select Address Book>Preferences and select the General Tab and you can organize by first name, last name. Also, look into Smart Groups for grouping individuals in your address book based upon a like characteristic e.g., everyone who works for a particular company, everyone who has a certain last name, etc. This is great because with groups in Address Book you can just type in the name of the group within Mail and it will automatically enter the email addresses for everyone in that group into the field. I use it frequently when I have to send out emails to a large group of individuals.
I don't know if you are on 10.5 or not, but the Mail in Leopard has improved greatly over previous versions with a smart feature much like Yahoo! mail where it culls the message for data such as addresses and phone numbers and allows you, at the click of the mouse, to add a new contact directly to your address book. Plus, now iCal, Address Book and Mail work very well together to keep your To-Dos, contacts, etc. linked.
I'd say, give it a try, particularly if you are going to buy an iPhone; I think once you get a little more time under your belt, you'll be pleasantly surprised with the functionality.

  • How do I publish calendars imported into iCal from a .ics file to iCloud rather than MobileMe?

Having upgraded my iPhone4 & iPad to iOS5 and my iMac to OSX 10.7.2, I have been having trouble with duplicate calendar entries. Unfortunately, having deleted all but one calendar from the iCloud web interface, I heeded the mistaken advice to disable Calendars in the iCloud preference pane on the iMac and it deleted the calendars that had been removed from iCould from the iMac as well.
A few false starts later, I was able, after disconnecting all my devices from the net, to restore my iCal calendars with TimeMachine from before the chaos started then exported them as .ics files. After rebooting and re-enabling the network to the iMac, iCloud sync purged the restored calendars from iCal again, so I imported the .ics files into iCal and published them again, but the publish options only include MobileMe or a private server, so I chose MobileMe. iCal now happily shows all my calendars on the iMac again, but the iCloud web Calendar app can't see them.
How can I get iCloud to see the published iCal calendars again?

Solved, I think! What you need to do is log on to your icloud account at www.icloud.com, go to the calendar screen, click the gearwheel and choose New Calendar. Create a calendar here (ie up on the iCloud) with the name you want for your imported calendar data. Then switch to iCal - you may have to quit and relaunch for the new iCloud calendar to appear (or it will probably do so automatically if you wait long enough) then import the data using File->Import->Import... When you get to the step where it asks which calendar you want to import the data into, choose the new iCloud calendar you've just created. Job done!
To be complete in my answer, I don't think you can exactly do what you want to do, at least not at present. There doesn't seem to be any way to publish a calendar to iCloud after the first time you set up iCloud on your Mac when it exports any calendar data that is on the Mac at that time. I suppose that Apple feel that the way I have described works by exporting from one calendar and importing into another, so no need to provide a way of doing it directly.

  • Not all calendars to import from iCal

Hi! I hope someone can help me.
I'm trying to import a calendar from iCal to iPhoto but there are only 2 calendars listed in the iPhoto list (and I have 6 in iCal). To make it easier to understand, I took two pics of my screen:
This is the calendars available to import in iPhoto: http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/565/screenshot20100110at133.png
This is the calendars that I have in iCal: http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/565/screenshot20100110at133.png
I want to import the blue "Birthday" calendar under Delegates.
    How can I do this?
    Thank you.

First move the iCal preference file, com.apple.iCal.plist, and the iPhoto preference file, iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that reside in your User/Library/Preferences folder to the Desktop. Launch iCal and reset the preferences. Next launch iPhoto and do the same. Go to the calendar, enter the Settings pane and see if the Delegated/Subscribed calendars are visible.

I have recently upgraded to leopard, I already had a backup of all my old data so I started from scratch and formatted the whole disk. I know find that I cannot import my contacts into agenda 4.1.2, it only imports the last contact of my existing backup from my original agenda (OS X 10.4)
I still have all the original archives from the old installation. How can I get my contacts back?

  • 1-way Sync: send iCal events to Entourage

I want to use Sync Services to send my iCal (v. 2.0.5) events to Entourage (2004 v. 11.3.6) and keep Entourage synched with iCal. The reason I'm doing this is because I much prefer how Entourage prints out a calendar; so I use iCal on-screen, but print out with Entourage. Therefor, I don't want Entourage to ever overwrite anything in iCal.
    How do I do this?
    Thanks in advance,
