Importing and buying music....

I finally got my school technologist to let me use Itunes on my school computer...so I authorized the commuter..brought in my Ipod and downloaded some of my music...and it all doesn't fit!! What? Now when I go to buy from the Apple store or download from a CD..I get an error message and says my disk is full...empty my garbage....but I checked and all this music is going to my harddrive...What can I do?

my goodness, but that's strange.
i was wondering if you were having a problem with the font on the PC that iTunes uses for those menu headings ... but if that was the case, the "Paint" menus would be displaying funny as well. besides, it's just some of your source items that are showing the boxes.
so i'm thinking about different possibilities.
it's plausible that one of your itunes display preference files has been corrupted. (that's consistent with still getting this after an uninstall/reinstall, because typically those files aren't touched by an install/uninstall or upgrade.)
so perhaps try rebuilding your itunes preference files files.
make a note of any custom preferences you have set up prior to doing the rebuild. the rebuild will return all preference to their default settings.
quit itunes. find the following two folders and move them to the desktop:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\
and
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\
(“<username>” here will be the name of the XP user account you’re having difficulties with.)
You might have to turn on "show hidden files and folders" to find them. (Right click "my computer", select open, select Tools menu -> Folder Options. Select View tab, "show hidden files and folders" radio button is in the center scrolling panel.) these will be rebuilt the next time you try to launch itunes.
(the itunes setup assistant will run, you'll be asked to agree to the license again, and so forth.)
launch itunes. are you back seeing normal menu headings (and items in the source list) again?

  • Computer Freezes while importing and converting music

I recently updated to Itunes 10.1.2, and now anytime I want to import a cd to my library or convert a non-aac format song into aac format, my computer freezes. Whats weird is my computer only freezes at 99.9 % importing/converting. i.e If I want to import a cd with 16 tracks, itunes will import the first 15 and then almost finish the 16th when my computer freezes. The first 15 songs are then added to my library and run properly upon restart of my computer but the 16th is not. Converting does the same thing even i convert only one song. I've tried re-installing, and downgrading to an older versions of itunes (9.2.1.5) and the same problem occurs. Any suggestions?

  • Buying music and apps on iPhone and on iTunes

Ok, so for the past while, iTunes has been unable to recognize my iPhone and therefor, i havnt been syncing it to my iTunes library. What I have been doing is redeeming iTunes cards on my iPhone and buying music and apps directly on it. Now I finally got around to updating my iTunes, and it recognizes my iPhone. Is there anyway to sync my iPhone to my libary, without losing the musics and apps ive purchased on using the iTunes and App Store apps on my iPhone?

Authorize the computer from the Store menu if needed, connect the iPhone, and choose Transfer Purchases from the dialog box which appears or the File menu.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select "/var/log/install.log" from the file list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, start over and note the time. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.

  • This Question is at least 2.5 years old.  But still an issue.  I have an early 2008 and mid 2010 13 inch macbook pro running iTunes 10.7.  Itunes on both machines doesn't recognize blank cds or allow me to import from a music cd when I insert it.

iTunes does not use the .xml it uses the .itl
If you are sure your old library file migrated across (does the file size and modification dates suggest it has?) start iTunes while holding down the option/alt key and guide it to the .itl file to get it to use that one.

I tookyour suggestion and SUCCESS!  I can now access the Itunes Store.  A simple fix, and thanks so much!!.
Below is the advice you forwarded:
I found a solution to my problem.
    > start menu
    > accessories,
    > right click on the command prompt icon and choose "run as administrator".
Once it opens, type in the following command...
    netsh winsock reset
    hit enter
You should get a message that the winsock reset successful and you will need to reboot your computer.
Reboot and when I reloaded itunes the store loaded fine.
    Thanks again, -Dean Stoneburner

  • Can't buy music with iTunes... and more

Dear Apple-people: Don't you test your software before you release it?
    1) With the new iTunes 6.0.0.18 I can no longer buy music from the iTunes Music Store!
When I add a song to my shopping cart, I get an error message saying that "An error occured...".
However, the song or album actually gets into my shopping cart!
When I try to buy what's in the shopping cart, I get another "An error occured...", an iTunes won't let me buy/download the music.
    2) After the release of iTunes 5.x I complained about not being able to transfer more than two songs from my library to my iPod Shuffle 1Gb at a time.
Apple.com never gave me any solution other than: "Try and restore your iPod".
Yes... that was the first thing I tried before posting my complaints here.
Now, after I installed iTunes-6.0.0.18, things are no better. When I try to transfer more than a few songs to my iPod, iTunes quickly disconnects and shortly after reconnects my iPod, and the transfer is cancelled.
However, if I transfer only one or two songs at a time, I can actually manage to put songs on my iPod, but I'm telling you... it's not acceptable.
iTunes version 4.x worked without problems.
What have you done in order to make the new iTunes so unstable?
It seems that every new release has new bugs in it.
Sorry about the brusk tone, but I am highly disappointed!
    Don't you test your software?
Has Apple been bought by Microsoft?
    What is going on?
And just for reference: no, there is nothing wrong with my USB. I have a digital camera, a memory stick, a scanner, a printer and an external hard drive, all connecting via usb, and all work fine.
    Looking forward to solutions!
    Regards
    Claus Holm, Copenhagen, Denmark

Ok, I had a glitch, forced to restart, and lost my train of thought.
Reinstalling iTunes should fix the major issue that might have gone wrong, perhaps your explaination points will disappear and everything will be peachy again.
But if they don't, you can open the XML file in iTunes Folder using a Text edit program to see what the common pathname is to the iTunes Music folder or where your content is located.
If you moved the itunes folder, it needs to go back.
I can't  download iTunes to my Vista virtual machine to test it out right now because iTunes is down, so I can't verify the pathname, perhaps your issue and the iTunes being down are related somehow?
You don't want to import all your music again, but it's a option, but you lose all your playlists, that's what I'm trying to recover.
If oyu don't have a whole lot of playlists, then simply select all the explaimation point music and delete, select File from the menu and import your itunes folder again.

I have money in my account -yet when I try to buy music it keeps asking for a credit card.  I saw that someone else had the same problem -yet no answer.

Yes, it's a bind isn't it. I'm also new, just trying to help my young son download free games, but the amount of personal data that has to be divulged for such a simple task was quite a surprise and somewhat overwhelming.

Hello, thank you for your prompt answer. I did have an idea that Home sharing might be the answer but could not quite figure out how to do it. I have enabled home sharing in my iTunes account, put in username and password, clicked on creat etc. But the homs sharing icon doew not appear in the left side of iTunes. So I got stuck. Any further ideas?
