Importing and editing video from DSLRs onto iPad 2

Hi,
I'm reading that it's not possible to import video direct from a DSLR (Nikon D7000 or Olympus Pen, for example) onto the iPad 2, and edit, then export.
Is this the case?
I'd like to be able to work remotely, taking stills and video (with audio) that I can then edit on the iPad and upload.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers!
Greg

  • I can't import and view videos from a camera.

I can't import and view videos from a camera.  Even if I open the file and copy the .avi files onto the hard drive.  I have tried iMovie, Quicktime, and Flip player.  Flip player will open it but I only get the audio,  Quicktime freezes, and iPhoto tries to automatically import only to then error saying the files are not compatible.

    Hello Hese,
    try the following:
    1. delete preferences (com.apple.iMovie.plist) and empty the trash
    2. repair disc permissions with Disc Utility and reboot your mac
    3. use Diskwarrior or MacJanitor for disc clean-up
    4. disconnect any other firewire devices
    5. take off any non-system desktop pictures
If nothing else helps, you might want to consider resetting your Firewire port(s)

  • I've accidentally imported and edited my hd footage onto an ntsc timeline.

I've accidentally imported and edited my hd footage onto an ntsc timeline.  I'd like to export it now, but it is not preserving the hd ratio without being letterboxed.  I've changed the settings on the sequence to hd 960x720, but the footage now looks stretched and squeezed in the viewer.  How can I get my footage looking the way it should and on a sequence with the right settings?  Thanks.

While I have you though...what is the difference between the two HD export options when exporting with quicktime converter?  One option has a 16x9 next to it, one doesn't.  I'm assuming since my footage was captured natively 16x9 that I do not need to choose the HD with 16x9 option?  Or should I choose this if I plan on posting to the web, so that it is embedded as and knows to play as a 16x9 HD video online?  Sorry if that is horribly worded and difficult to understand. Thanks.

  • Importing and Using Video from Sony DVD Camcorders

I have a Sony DVD Camcorder (DCR-DVD 92) and I have recently shot a lot of footage which is now on my computer. The file extensions are .BUP, .IFO, and .VOB. I am able to import some of the files into final cut but they are shortened to only a few seconds each when in reality, they were shot for several minutes. Is there a way to make these work or to convert the files so they can be edited in Final Cut Pro 5?

You should find that GreatVideo! v1.7 for Mac OS X - 10.4', by Software Architects, Inc., solves your problem. Converts from Sony to Mac readable format.

  • Importing and editing footage with two different cameras

I am editing a film that has footage caught and imported from two different cameras. Some of the footage is from a handheld HD camera that I have worked with before and use an "Easy Setup of Apple Intermediate Codec, 29.97 fps, HDV Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60." I want to add some video footage that I shot with my Canon Rebel t2i. I searched a number of threads and concluded that when working with a project shot with the t2i, I should have the the Easy Setup be "HD, 29.97fps, DVCPRO HD 1080p30" (side question: is this correct?). My question is when starting a project where I will be using footage from both cameras, what Easy Setup should I use and is there anything else I should keep in mind?

Shane-- Thanks for the willingness to help. I am in Helena, but travel all over the state for work--I am a fly fishing and bird hunting guide who likes to do some amateur filming and editing on the side. Love Missoula, Bozeman, Flathead area, etc! And since you are willing to be so helpful, I guess I should start with a go Cats!
I am brand new to FCP, having previously worked a fair amount with FCE4. I actually do have FCP 7 and work with it on my Macbook Pro. My handheld camera is a JVC Everio that captures in AVCHD (1920x1080). I had my Easy Setup in FCE4 as Apple Intermediate Codec. If I use footage from this camera in FCP7, should I continue to do this?
So not only am I new to FCP7, but I just bought the T2i and really am not totally sure what I am doing yet. I just got the Canon EOS Movie Plug-in and modified it according to some threads I read so that it works for the T2i. I also found directions on the Canon website on the proper way to Log and Transfer for T2i footage (side question: can I dump the files off my T2i onto an external HD and then Log and Transfer them into FCP7 from the external, and is there anything I need to know about when doing this?)
So now that you know that I am very knew to FCP7 and the T2i, maybe I should start from scratch. When I log and transfer, what format should I use when I transcode? ProRes 442? And then, however you suggest I should transcode, what should my Easy Setup look like for footage from the T2i?
Wow, if you are still reading at this point, and I haven't exhausted you with all of my questions and naivety, my final question is...once I have become comfortable with importing and editing footage from the T2i, what should I do if I want to log and transfer and then edit footage from both cameras? Do I need to change the Easy Setup? Do I need to make other changes?
Thanks again in advance for all of your help and patience!!!

  • Can now with imovie 1.2.2 and iOS5 edit 1080p high definition videos from DSLR cameras like the EOS 5D Mark II on ipad 2?

Can now with imovie 1.2.2 and iOS5 edit 1080p high definition video from DSLR cameras like the EOS 5D Mark II on ipad 2?.
That would be great, you would open the door to professional video editing ipad 2. Is there an accepted camera list?.

There does not appear to be a list yet.

Hi, i have a canon 60d and i have been importing videos from it onto my mac for months but suddenly when i go on image capture or iphoto it no longer allows me to import them help!!!

Have you launched and tired Image Capture? When it's launched with the iPad connected the photos will display in the window.  Select those you want to upload and use the Import to: menu and select Other.  Navigate to the Desktop and select the folder you created to hold those photos.

  • Fuzzy previews / thumbnails and blank videos from iPhone and iPad imports

When I sync and download images from both my iPad and iPhone the thumbnails / previews are showing up fuzzy and I also am unable to play the downloaded videos.
    Any thoughts?   Thanks!
    Please see screenshot below:

Your screenshot does not show for me, sorry. Can you please try to post it again?
What is the pixel size of your iPhone images and iPad images? Do you have an iPad 3 with a large pixel size 2592 × 1936 (5.0 MP) or an earlier version with lower pixel size? Then the images might display fuzzy on a large screen.
How do you transfer the images from your IOS devices? Photo Stream? Connect using USB?
also am unable to play the downloaded videos
Is that a recent problem? Did they play previously?

  • How should I best import HD Videos from the new iPad to my mac without loosing video quality?

The new HD video on the new iPad is awesome, but it can eat up a lot of memory in no time. I would like to know what is the most recommended way to export my ipad movies to iLife on my mac without loosing image quality, so i can free up space on my iPad.
If I use iPhoto I notice that the file size of the video from the new iPad is a lot smaller then if I use iMovie to import the same video.
Example: I import a 53 second video from the new iPad to iPhoto and the imported file has a file size of 143 MB in iPhoto. (iphoto save the video as IMG_0048.mov)
I import the same video to iMovie manually and the imported file size is 843 MB in iMovie. BIG DIFFERENCE. (iMovie saves that same video as clip-2012-03-20 16;13;08.mov)
Now to really be confusing: I go to Image Capture program and locate the file manually on my iPad and is has the same name and file size is what is in iPhoto.
So either iMovie is making the File a lot larger when it imports to an event, or the file I'm looking at is actually the iPhoto version that I get because I sync with iPhoto.
The second issue that I have is that now I have 2 videos on my hard drive: one in iPhoto, and one in iMovie for a combined data storage of close to 1 GB.
I would like to be able to import ALL my iPad recording into iPhoto and then delete the video from the device when done.
But if I loose video quality, I'm not happy about that. Secondly, by importing video from my iPad into multiple iLife programs, I'm creating duplicates with sometimes different quality. Any suggestions? is there a setting in iPhoto that can do all this for me?
    Robert

Don't use iphoto to deal with movies. it's not really meant for that. use Quicktime or iMovie to work with your videos

  • Is an iMac 24" enough to import and edit HD video?

I am looking to purchase an iMac 24" and a Canon HV20 camcorder. My expectation is to be able to easily import and edit High Definition video at the cameras highest quality settings.
We will also be importing LOTs of old high 8 video using the passthrough mode of the HV20 into iMovie.
Are my expectations out of whack with the iMac 24" abilities?
I am nervous moving over from a PC world where I really didn't have to worry all that much about this type of stuff as I could just upgrade the CPU or video card. I am pretty sure the video nor the CPU can be upgraded on the iMac so it is a consumable platform that is discarded when it becomes obsolete.
Note that a Mac Pro is in the future to replace our present heavy lifting PC. I was hoping to buy the iMac 24" for my wife and offload all the Video and Photo functions off my PC to the Mac and leave my PC dedicated to being a DAW for now.
Sorry for all the performance questions, Leopard just threw us for a loop as we were waiting to buy when it was released. We were also told that when Leopard releases there may be some updates to the iMac hardware (CPU, Bus speed = better performance).
The one gripe I have heard pretty consistently from Mac users is getting left on an island with no ability to upgrade. So we were warned to make our buying choices very wisely to ensure we get the most life out of our iMac.
    Jim

Also it only comes with a single FW bus
Actually, there are two FireWire ports. All the iMacs have two FireWire ports, three USB 2.0 ports, and two USB 1.1 ports on the keyboard.
The 24-inch iMac has one FireWire 400 port and one FireWire 800 port. The other iMacs have two FireWire 400 ports.
So the FireWire issue with the Canon — if there is an issue — should be handled by this iMac as well as any other. Remember too, if you need more FireWire ports for drives you can always plug them into a (powered) FireWire hub.
That looks like a really fine Mac, so I'm sure you will be pleased. I especially like how it supports external monitors. You can add another 23-inch Cinema Display on the side, or other display. More here:
    http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/imaccore2duo/index.html#apr13
You can never have too much disk space, so I'd consider getting a larger drive, and planning to add FireWire drives as needed. Perhaps consider building a drive array. And too, Leopard's built-in backup utility may make it particularly attractive to have a second drive. (External drive, in your case.)
You're correct; Macs tend not to be upgradable. On the other hand, Max OSX upgrades tend to be compatible with old iron. In fact, old iron seems to run faster with many upgrades. So upgrading hardware isn't terribly necessary. That's one of the reasons Mac owners tend to keep their Macs for such a long time. That and Mac durability. Five years isn't unusual. Many keep their Macs longer.
Mine is coming up on its fifth anniversary. Its performance editing video is fine. If I upgrade cameras to HDV I know I'll probably want a faster Mac for importing/exporting video, but otherwise there's no particular reason to buy a new Mac or upgrade. Other than wanting the fastest Mac there is, which we all do.
The 24" iMac is on my short list, as well as the new top-of-the-line Mac Pro. Speaking of which, there are rumors of a special edition 24-inch iMac that uses the latest quad-core processor. If you decide to wait for Leopard before buying anything, you may want to keep an eye open. (No idea if rumors are true.)
But if you need it today, I'd go for it! That iMac will serve you well for a long time. Like a new car, you'll probably get tired of it before its useful life is over. Choosing to wait for the next great-sounding hardware is a never-ending cycle. If the hardware you need is there today — which that iMac is — get it so you can enjoy it!

  • How to import and edit a 3D video made with Sony HDR-TD10E camcorder, with .MVC file?

How to import and edit a 3D video made with Sony HDR-TD10E camcorder, with .MVC file?
    I have PremierePro-CS5 installed.
This stereo 3D camcorder (Sony HDR-TD10E), output an .MVC (MultiViewCoding) file, coded in H.264 format.
This format is already compatible with Bluray3D stereoscopic format.
    1) But, how to edit the .MVC in Premiere?
    2) What plugin should I use (if exists) for PremiereProCS5?
    3) Cineform Neo3D, can manage the .MVC format? Can convert it to Cineform format file, for import it into Premiere?
    4) What software should I use to convert an .MVC video to an AVCHD H.264 file, and import it into PremierePro CS5 or CS5.5 for editing?
    Thanks!

Sorry, I am Italian, it is very difficult for me to understand what he says!
I can just read the english text, or follow the actions of a videotutorial!
Thus my question is the same:
    -What software can do that?
-Sony Vegas 10 do the Bluray3D authoring?
-For MVC editing, should I wait for Adobe CS6? Or is it planned an update for CS5.5?
