Importing and Joining songs

Hi All:
I have recently upgraded to V6. When I go to preferences, there is no Import tab. Does it make a difference that I have it set to manual? (Import is the only tab missing.)
Next, when I try to use the "join CD tracks it is ALWAYS grayed out. It does not matter if I highlight the tracks in the import or otherwise.

You might want to post this in the iTunes for Windows Forum to get a quick response.
I presume you mean V6 iTunes as the nano is only at V1.1
The import options are on the Advanced tab but I'm using a Mac not Windows.
Not sure about the 'Joining tracks' bit though.

I have imported songs and copied songs form own CD's. Today, every time Im trying to listen any of my songs I will have on the left side on my iTunes program, an exclamation mark pop up which prevent me to open my songs or any of them. A little window will open and will say: The song i.e. Loving you tonight could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would like to locate it? Where to locate any of those songs, I'm already inside my library!
Can you help to remove that general blockage preventing me to hear any music I record or copied from my personal CDs thanks you?

Today, every time Im trying to click on a chosen song I will have on the left side on my iTunes program, an exclamation mark will come up and subsequently, forbidden me to hear any song. In the same time, a little window will open and will say: The song i.e. Loving you tonight could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?
Where can I locate any of those songs knowing that I'm already inside my library!

So, you've moved a folder or some files on your hard drive. A limitation of the Windows OS is that files are referred to by full pathname and that's what your library has stored for your song location. (If you select the song, right click and select "Get Info", this will show you where iTunes thinks the file should be.)
But you've moved the file behind iTunes back by moving or copying it in Windows Explorer and now iTunes has lost it. You should have the option of "finding the file" for iTunes so that it sync back up again -- that's the message about "would you like to locate it?" or you can delete the song with the exclamation point from the library and re-add the file back into the library in its new location.

Problems importing and playing songs from an external cd/dvd drive

I am having problems importing songs on my PC from an external usb drive. What I have is an external combo usb firewire drive hooked up to my pc with a usb cable. (usb 2.0) When I launch itunes, it sees the cd I have loaded but when I go to import the songs, itunes just pops past each song in a second like each song was just a second in length. Then I have some corrupt file in my itunes library. Itunes gets the cd names and titles from CDDB correctly but can't play the songs or import them. I use this pc solely for playing audio, it is a Pentium 4 2.6 with 1GB of ram with build in usb 2.0 on the motherboard. There is no other software installed on the system other then virus software. When I use Windows Media Player the cd is read perfectly fine. I even play DVDs off the drive with no problems too. This problem in intermittent, with different cds. These are all commercial cds not burnt ones that someone made for me. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Toonz - I have exactly the same problem when trying to import songs - itunes does recognise the cd drive and names of tracks etc - it just won't play more than one second of each, or import any more. i did run the cd diagnostic check you suggested - results below - don't mean anything to me i'm afraid - any bright ideas?
this was a christmas present and i haven't managed to put any new music on apart from what was already on our pc, so am v sad and hope you can make it better....

Importing and joining movie clips

hello ! here's my question to you. I'm working on a video project (home movies) and I have 12 video clips from various tapes saved to my hard drive. I've managed to import them one by one into the latest version of iMovie (10.0.6 I believe) and they import correctly. However, I cannot seem to, for the life of me, join all of these video clips together to create a full movie. I've tried selecting all of the clips, then share, then file. I click on it, then nothing. I can export clip 1,2, etc, but that's not what I want. I want the whole thing all together

thanks, GeeD. It's been a while since I used iMovie and the last version I used was 8 or 9 (back when I had my single quad core Mac Pro). Things sure have changed. Frankly, I like some of the older controls better, but what can you do? it is what it is---and it works

Please help trouble importing and editing songs

i recently lost my itunes library file, then had trouble re-installing itunes after another problem, and now am having a new problem as i am attempting to re-add everything to my itunes library.
i have noticed some files are (seemingly at random) not being added to my library. other songs from the same album, folder, etc are being added as normal, (they are all in mp3 format)but others are just not showing up in the library.
when i tried to drag these files from my folder in windows explorer to itunes, i got the little crossed out circle icon informing me they could not be added. as stated, they are in a compatible format.
with a bit of fiddling about i discovered that if i renamed these files the could be added. but some of these such files do not allow me to edit the information anymore. (when i right click i just see options such as open with, add to windows media player list, etc) but not options to rename or even copy, paste, delete, etc.
any idea what might be going on? this is very strange and extremely frustrating. until the past few weeks i have been so happy with the performance of itunes but it has been absolutely nothing but trouble lately.

I don't have any sure-fire solutions, but I do have a suggestion: rather than opening the whole CS6 project and going through the whole conversion process, try importing just the sequence(s) from the CS6 project into a new CC project. There are a couple of ways to do so: 1) File>Import, select "Import Selected Sequences," then pick the desired ones, or 2) drill down to the project in Media Browser, which will show you it's contents, then drag and drop the sequence(s) into the Project panel.
I found a few bug reports in the same neighborhood. They were all fixed in the release you're using. But each was specific to a particular file type, so you may have hit on a case that we didn't exercise. It could really help us nail this down if you provided one small clip that CC is balking at and, ideally, a CS6 project containing that clip.

Importing and trimming songs

Just wondering if there was a way to import a song from itunes and trim it so I just have the first 20 seconds or so. Thanks

If you're using GB 08,
Click the Media Browser button (next to the track info button). Then click the Audio tab near the top of the browser. This should show you your iTunes library. Click on a playlist, down below, the songs from that list will appear. Drag one of them into the track window and let go.
To trim the track, use the "Split" option on the Edit menu. Place your playhead where you want the split to occur. Click once on the imported track to select it. Choose "Split" from the edit menu. This will create 2 regions, one on either side of the playhead. Select the region you don't want and delete it.
The help files say something about not being able to do this with imported files. But, if you lock the track and try to play it, it will render the track into the GB file. Save the GB file that way, then unlock the track. Now you should be able to split it.

Hi. I have not used Roxio Jam for quite a long time and I just wanted to make a few CDs. Jam used to work easily and well. I have a problem. I can't drag and drop iTunes music files anymore and, now I have to import music one song at a time by using the "+" or "-" buttons on the bottom. What is going on? I trashed the preferences file and restarted Jam to no avail. I also have selected that Jam should open files with iTunes in the Jam preferences. I have a G5 DP 2Ghz PPC machine with OS 10.4.11, iTunes 9.2.1 and Quicktime's version is 7.6.4. I have 2 GB of RAM and the machine has dual 1.25 Ghz. processors plus a 500 GB HD. Can anybody give me any suggestions?

I found an solution.
Uninstalling AirParrot as well as the two offending AirParrotDriver.kext and APExtFramebuffer.kext files in System>Library>Extensions was the fix. All problems disappeared.

When importing a CD, the CD Lookup Results dialogue box came up and I choose the wrong CD title. Now iTunes is importing a different song list than the one on my CD. How can I retrieve the CD Lookup Results to choose the correct title?

You might also be able to do it without importing the songs again I think. Just highlight the tracks, right click them and choose "Get Track Names". This feature only works on CDs that were imported via iTunes.

How exactly are you doing this?
When I cut out a part of an audio region, then drag the remaining parts together, so they are touching, the track will skip the cut out section when playing the file. Also, if I select the remaining parts of the region and use the command "Edit > join regions". This will create a new audio file with the cut out part deleted.

Rip the CDs with another program on your computer, and add the resulting MP3s to your iTunes library. (If you use Windows Media Player for this purpose, make sure the Rip Setting is on MP3, or else it will default to a useless format known as WMA.)

I purchased a new computer and want to import music from other computers and sources to my hard drive, how do I import the actual songs and not the links?

I purchased a new computer. I would like to import all of my music from my other computers and external hard drives. I want to only import the physical songs not "Links". Also not duplicates. How do I do this?

Under Edit > Preferences > Advanced make sure the Copy... option is ticked. This will ensure any files you drag to the library get copied into your library's media folder.
If the same content appears at more than one location, or you add it more than once, then iTunes will create dupes. There isn't really any way to avoid that, but I've written a script called DeDuper which can help remove them. See this thread for background.
