Importing and Oracle Designer Model

Hi,
Is the "Importing an Oracle Designer Model" functionality enabled ? I seem to be able to test the connection (successful) but the next screen "Selct WorkArea" doesn't seem to be working?
-Tom

Your right!!
build 525 has a problem with importing Designer. A Bug has been generated. and it is internal.
The earlier build works.

  • SQL Developer Data Modeling - import from Oracle Designer Model

    Hi,
I do want to try to import model from a Designer repository.
The first step is to create connection to the repository (9i version).
I have created the one, however any attempt to test the connection or to go to the next step simply finishes with error "4", without any valueable message.
    Any idea or suggestion ?
    Thanx.

A clarification of the Data Modeling feedback application and this forum. The developers are part of the SQL Developer development team, but as for all our features, each developer has a focus area, so the Data Modeling developers will tend to answer those questions. There will not be a separate Data Modeling forum, so once we're production all SQL Developer Data Modeling questions will be on this forum. We want to encourage all users to get into the habit of tagging posts. Having the posts tagged means that users can skip them if they're not their focus area and users can search using the tags. The more tags are used in all the forums the better. You may well find find the answers to your questions are outside this forum!
As SQL Developer Data Modeling in in its first early adopter phase, we have provide a feedback application, where users can provide feedback, log bugs and ask questions. We did the same for SQL Developer before it's initial production release and found this to be very useful for the product.
I'm happy for "How To" questions to be on this forum, as the answers benefit the broader community.

  • Import Oracle Designer model dependencies between objects

    Hello,
I am using the Oracle Designer model import to fill Data Modeler. There are some views which have dependencies on each other, resulting that views which depend on other views are incomplete.
Is there a way to rerun the import again in the same relational model, since the import utility now opens a new relational model again.
Is there a kind of logging where you can find these kind of errors?
    Best regards,
    Joop

Thanks Phillip, but I was actually referring to the version level of the Designer repository itself, not the database instance in which it resides. I seem to remember that you could not upgrade your Designer repository without also upgrading the Oracle Designer client as well; hence my question about compatibility between SQL Developer Data Modeler and various Repository versions.

  • JDdeveloper and Oracle Designer

    JDdeveloper and Oracle Designer
How does Oracle (and the Oracle community) see the future or of model driven application development and the integration of upper CASE (early SDLC) and lower CASE (late SDLC) tools?
How about a code generator for Designer that generates from old meta-data in the Designer repository into ADF? That will mean that we have the best of both worlds – Designer for enterprise modeling and JDeveloper / ADF for the coding end of the stick?
We have guys here that developed a very nifty PL/SQL code generator on top of a PL/SQL version of the Servlet APIs (that I developed) and this thing generates normal business applications (with very cool master detail, state and session handling) faster than anything I have ever seen. I am trying to convince them to go Java, but with the learning curve and complexity, how? I enjoy Java as a programming language immensely, but as a tool for developing transactional business applications in your average medium sized corporate development shop, it seems like we stepped 10 years back.
Developer productivity is much, much higher using Designer, Headstart and Forms. Given, one can develop such cool user interfaces with clever DHTML, but it turns into an endless quagmire of Java Script debugging.
Where too now? Is IBM and rational perhaps the way to go, .NET, or Sun and JSF? Jdeveloper?
We currently have a home grown network with much declarative features but we don’t have the time to write tools for it. It’s very powerful but sooo hard to use.
Hi ho, Hi ho, it’s off to work I go, I go, I go, I go. In the end we are simply storing and retrieving data, with a bit of massaging here and there. Why must it be so complex?
I would love to hear some comments.
How many of you have got your own code generators etc to help cope with the load. I am talking about regular transactional business applications built on data models containing tables that number in the 100s.

Check out the end of the JDeveloper demo page to see several demos showing how-to generate ADF from Designer.

  • Import Oracle Designer Model

    Hello,
I have a client who maintains their data model in an old Oracle Designer 6.0 model repository. I would like to help them migrate from this very old data model to SQL Developer Data Modeler, if possible. With what versions of Oracle Designer repository is SQL Developer Data Modeler compatible with for model import?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Importing from Oracle Designer

Hi, I am looking to migrate from Oracle Designer. We have 2k plus objects in a enterprise model supporting multiple applications. When following the dialogs to import into DM 3.1, I connect to the repository fine but when I select our Logical application system, I am not seeing all our entities. What is the basis for selecting entities to present? Do they need to be checked in? We have some that are not yet versioned that do not show up and I can see them not being there but others that are versioned do not show up. I think most of these are checked out but I see some that are checked out as well. Any ideas, thks.

Yes they need to be checked in if they are versioned.

  • Data Modeler 30EA : Oracle Designer Import Wizard

When I want to import an Oracle Designer Model, I've no entries in "Select Applications Systems".
But in the previous release (2.0.0), i could see all my "Aplication System".
    My Oracle release is 9i.
What is the problem? Must I configure anything more?
    Thanks, Cédric

    Hi Cédric,
the problem was reported and is related to import from non versioned repository. Fix is included in EA2.

  • Oracle Designer Import - Missing Application Systems

    Hi,
I'm tryiing to import an Oracle Designer data model into SQL Developer Data Model 3.0, which I downloaded today. I seem to have my connection to the Designer repository set up OK and I can select the non-versioned Workarea. When I click Next none of my application systems are displayed. The Oracle Designer build is 9.0.4.6.19 and the the DMBS is version 10.2.0.4. Any suggestions as to what I'm missing, greatly appreciated.
    Ian

    Phil,
Any idea on liikely timeframe for a fix? Our situation is basically that we are worried about potential issues with Designer as we upgrade to Windows 7 and Oracle 11gr2 some time next year. Other parts of the company use PowerDesigner and that is one alternative; we're hoping Oracle Designer will continue to work but we want to be proactive and we'd also like to look at the SQL Developer Data Modeler 3.0 as another option. I can show people here some of the features, but a clean import of the Designer data would be a huge plus as we have 3,000 + database objects. If this is something that is slated to be corrected reasonable short-term, I'll just wait to give any demonstrations and push the product further until that functionality is available. Alternatively, if this is not available any time soon, I can try to demonstrate some of the functionality with a "build from scratch" modeling exercise.
    Thanks,
    Ian

  • BPA integration into Oracle Designer

I am poised to perform a documentation effort on an existing data structure which has been partially documented in Oracle Designer (mostly through reverse-engineering function).
What is the linkage, if any, between the Business Process suite and Oracle Designer? Is there a business objective to CASE tool clear development path? I have poked around BPA and the literature but nothing patently clear.
I am loathe to do the higher end documentation in designer (a bit clunky) but I am also loathe to document down to the business process and then switch to designer and effectively re-key everything (I might as well stay in MS Visio then).
Thoughts, perspectives, gentle words of encouragement?

    Hello Phrank,
in general there is no linkage between the BPA suite and the Designer so far. When it comes to data modeling I would always advise to stick to the Designer instead of using BPA Suite (or ARIS). The reason for that are the much more powerful data modeling and generation capabilities of the Designer.
But you can bring all the ER information from the Designer to an ARIS Database via a DDL script written in AML (the ARIS scripting language).
Another option is to use an interface created by Reischmann (http://www.reischmann.com/DataSheets/TOOLBUS_ARIS-OracleDesigner_DataSheet.pdf)
When it comes to the point that you need one single (and if possible DB based) documentation pool I would advice to use the BPA Suite and import the relevant ER information from Designer by the above mentioned interface. This makes your maintenance life later on much easier.
This is always better then documenting with Visio because you have all the information in one database.

  • ERD designer model dump file from Oracle Consultancy

    Hi,
    I downloaded the following link:
Oracle Designer 6i Model (application system dump file, version 1.0) 2.48M (zip)
    from this site:
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/designer/content.html
then I uploaded to a database, but I don't understand the tables imported there.
Could you please tell me more about these tables???
    Tx.

    Edgardo
If you are referring to the zip file that you get when you download 'Designer Model (application system dump file, v1.0)' then this is an application export that you should load into Designer directly. Do this by performing the following steps with the unzipped file:
    1. Invoke the RON as the user which will own the resulting application system
    2. Select Utilities > Import
    3. Select 'Import from an ORACLE database file', and click Next
    4. Browse to the unzipped file, and click next
    5. If you see a dialog telling you that there are already temporary export tables, think carefully about what they might contain. Generally you can ignore this content, but the repository user you are using might have been in the middle of an export or import. If it's OK to overwrite them, click Yes. If you click No the process will abort.
The resulting application system contains the Designer meta model definitions and diagrams.
    Hope this helps

  • Importing and executing a .sql file into  Oracle 10g

    Hi
I am looking to import and execute a .sql file(create scripts created of a databse designed in MS SQL Server 2005). The file was imported into Oracle APEX 3.10 but we are unable to execute the script. Please suggest alternatives as to how we can import these files.
    Thanks in advance.

You likely need to migrate the database (objects and data). This is not so easy and you should have a look to migration tools: http://www.oracle.com/technology/oramag/oracle/07-sep/o57sql.html.

  • Import and Export  of  R prediction model

    hi ,
How can i  import and export a oracle R prediction model   e.g  from/to file ?   Basically,   We need it for the following requirements
    1.  We would like to ship a sample prediction model as part a  product.      So, The product will work with sample prediction model for some time after install    till a  newer model is created   with data  in customer env.
    2. Before regenerating a prediction model,   we would like to  take a backup of the existing prediction model.   And if it turns out that  the prediction results are not as good  with new model,  we should be able  to reinstate the older model.
    3. Support a mode where oracle R prediction model can be loaded to an  environment  which is different from the  the source environment where the model was actually generated.
    Please advise
    Regards,
    Arif

I tried the above method  but  i am facing an issue that  although the prediction model is imported in to R  using load command,   it  is not loaded in ORE environment.     Due to this i am not able to use the imported predictionmodel for scoring
    I tried the following
    #Generate the prediction model
    >  PREDICTIONMODEL <-  ore.odmKMeans(data= TEST_DATA_TABLE, formulat=  COLUMN1 ~ . )
    >  class(PREDICTIONMODEL)
    [1] "ore.odmKMeans" "ore.model"
    >  save( PREDICTIONMODEL,  file="test.model")
After this i quit the R session  (without saving my workspace)   and then   create a   new R session  and tried the following
    # load a prediction model from a file
    > load(file="test.model")
    > ls()
    [1}  "PREDICTIONMODEL"
    > ore.ls()
    charcter(0)
You can see from above that  ore.ls() is not printing anything after load(). However,  ls()  prints the loaded  PREDICTIONMODEL.    Now, if i try to do scoring against the loaded predictionmodel,  I get an error
    >  x <- data.frame(COLUMN2="CC_PROCESSING", COLUMN3="CallWorkflow", COLUMN4="CallWorkflow", COLUMN1=NA)
    > X <- ore.push(x)
    >
    > result<- ore.predict(PREDICTIONMODEL, X)
Error in .oci.GetQuery(conn, statement, data = data, prefetch = prefetch,  :
      ORA-40284: model does not exist
So, it seems that  even though i imported the  model from the file,  ORE is still not aware of it .   Any idea about this ?

  • Generation of DDL similar to Oracle Designer (Data Modeler 3.0 EA1.)

    Hi,
Will the production version of SQL Data Modeler allow the creation of separate DDL files similar to that which Oracle Designer does? For example, I can create a sequence number generator in Data Modeler (DM) and then make a call to that in an Object Type method. However the DDL file that is generated by DM has all DDL in one file. This would allow to take dependencies were taken into consideration, that is create the sequences before object types, packages and tables, then object type bodies, package bodies, etc...
    Thanks,
    ScottK

At this stage we do not support multiple files. We do plan to do this in the future. However you can work around this by repeating the DDL generation for the different objects types you want to have files for.
Remember that you can vote on the Exchange for your most desired features.

  • Modelling databases in Oracle Designer environment

Today I had laboratory's which subject was: "Modelling data and designing databases scheme in Oracle Designer environment" and I have to make a report for tommorow. I can't find some answers for questions which our Professor told us to include in the report. I would be very grateful if enyone here can help me.
    1) How looks in SQL code definition of the key of the table if relationship have PRIMARY UID attribute?
    2) Is there any difference in SQL code between references replying to transferable and not transferable relationships
    3) Why some tables have more columns than number of attributes in entities (entities contains the same things that tables)?
My english isn't perfect, sorry for that. But I hope that I wrote that wuestions correctly.
    Thanks for any help.

    1) a primary UID is a primary key in SQL
    2) No.
    3) OD entity models don't include inherited referential key attributes, whereas the SQL tables (obviously) require them.

  • Import of ERwinR8 data models into Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler

Hi!  My site want to move off ERwin R8 and use Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler.  When will Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler support the import of ERwin R8data model xml?
    Thanks very much,  Patty

    Hi,
You can add the classic SCOTT schema with EMP/DEPT tables to a 10g Express Edition DB by running this script as SYSTEM:
    C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\RDBMS\ADMIN\scott.sql
Also, you may wish to upgrade to the current version of SQL Developer:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/downloads/index.html
As for importing a .dmp file, you import it to the database, not SQL Developer. Please post that question to the appropriate forum.
