Importing AppleWorks Documents from 9.2.2?

Hello,
I hope I'm not missing something simple, but I upgraded from 9.2.2 to 10.4.11, and am trying to import AppleWorks documents over to Tiger. How does one do that?
Also, are there any bugs or compatibility quirks I should look out for?
Thanks for your time.
Sincerely,
J.C.

The version of the Mac OS doesn't affect your AppleWorks documents. It does affect which version of AppleWorks 6 you use. If your version of AppleWorks is less than 6.2.3/6.2.4, you'll want to update it as the earliest version stable in OS X is 6.2.4. (6.2.3 is the Classic/OS 9 version of the OS X version.) If you are going to be installing AppleWorks from a CD, OS X requires a version of the installer that can run in OS X. If you are not using an Intel Mac, you can use Classic in Tiger to install AppleWorks 6 if necessary.
There is no "importing" needed, but in transferring the documents from one Mac to another you do want to use a Mac-formatted disk. This can be a CD, USB flash drive or a FireWire drive. Using a PC-formatted disk can cause the files to lose their resource fork.
After installing AppleWorks 6 you need to repair permissions. Launch Disk Utility, found in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder, click on First Aid, then on Repair Permissions.

What do I need on my MacMini to import Pages documents from an iPad-mini?

Plug in your iPad mini to the Mac mini. Open iTunes on the Mac. Select your iPad from the sidebar on the left. At the top, where it says "Summary," etc. choose Apps. Scroll down until you see a section for File Sharing. Find Pages. Select the document on the right. In the bottom right corner, select "Save to..." and choose where on your computer you want to save it.

    Welcome James!
For no cost, you can try the open-source productivy suite LibreOffice. I don't have any AW files here to test but there are reliable reports that LibreOffice can open at least some AW files:

Please turn off your caps lock key. All-caps text is harder for us to read and is considered "shouting" or "anger" by most internet text conventions. Thanks!

To view it in an acceptable format, yes.  You can try using an opensource program such as OpenOffice or LibreOffice and see if it yields better results.  However, I'm sure if it would be compatible with a document made with word processing software from 9 years ago, but I would certainly give it a try.

  • Importing a document from Word.  How do I change the tabs for the whole document?

I am new to pages.  In importing a document from Word, the tabs are all messed.  The help topics work fine for adding/changing tabs... only it applies to a single line.  I cannot locate info on how to change the settings for the document.  Any help?

    d,
A set of Tab stops applies to a Paragraph (not a line). A change in stops will apply to all paragraphs selected. A good way to make all your paragraph styles the same is to set up one paragraph the way you want it, then Format > Copy Paragraph Style. Then Select the entire document (Command-A) and Format > Paste Paragraph Style.
Shortcuts for Copy Paragraph Style and Paste Paragraph Style are Shift-Command-C and Shift-Command-V.

  • What is the best way to import word documents from a PC to the Ipad2

What is the best way to import word documents from a PC to the Ipad 2?

You first need an app on the iPad that supports word documents - the iPad doesn't have a file structure like a 'normal' computer, and every file/document needs to be associated with an app. If you don't have such an app then options include Apple's Pages app and third-party apps such as Documents To Go and QuickOffice HD. How you then get the documents on the iPad will depend upon the app that you have/get as different apps may use different methods e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc.

  • HT5248 how do I import an Appleworks document from Appleworks 6 PC power support is not supported

I am unable to access some appleworks 6 documents saved onto a flash drive.  I was told pages would fix this and I downloaded the software.
I don't know how to access the information, just clicking on the document on my flash drive still gives me the same error message "Appleworks PC power6 is not supported.

Did you install Pages? Drag the word document from your flash drive onto your desktop. Then try double clicking it or launch Pages and choose "Open" in the file menu. Note: Pages can read word documents; Numbers can read spreadsheets, but nothing can read painting documents. If you still have access to a Snow Leopard installation, I'd open them there and then save them in another format.

  • IMPORT APPLEWORKS DOCUMENTS INTO PAGES

With appleworks totally dead (just found out with my lion update), I'm a teacher with 1000's of old AW files I might want to access, update or import into pages....  Is there a way?
I've got a 2009 iMac running lion, iworks 08 (rarely use), ipad 2.
    Thanks

You won't need to run AppleWorks in an earlier OS IF, big IF, your AppleWorks files are AppleWorks 6 word processing, spreadsheet or presentation. The iWork applications - Keynote, Pages & Numbers - can only open AppleWorks 6 presentation, word processing & spreadsheet documents, respectively. They will not open any other type of AppleWorks 6 files or any AppleWorks 5 or any version of ClarisWorks files.
The third-party application, EazyDraw, can open AppleWorks draw documents. If you still have access to AppleWorks you can copy the contents of draw documents, paste them into an AppleWorks word processing document in object mode (click the arrow in the tool panel), save the WP document & then open it in Pages. You can copy & paste from AppleWorks to Pages but you would have to do it object by object or it will be one big uneditable object. Check Yvan Koenig's iDisk for many AppleScripts he has written to make conversion easier. Most are made to do batch conversions.
There is nothing other than AppleWorks that can open paint or database documents. Database data can be copied & pasted into an AppleWorks spreadsheet, saved & opened in Numbers or saved as ASCII/plain text & opened in most any spreadsheet, database or word processing program. Paint documents can be saved as one of many different formats to be opened in most image editing programs. I recommend using PICT or PNG for best results.

  • Appleworks document attachment gets corrupted

Trying to email an Appleworks document from my G4 to my iBook. The iBook doesn't have an email account - I retrieve mail from my ISP server with Safari. By the time I download it, it's not recognized as an Appleworks document and can't be converted to one or opened in any other application. I've tried with and without the .cwk on the end. Any suggestions (other than burning a CD)?
    thanks,

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, David!
Try using "Create Archive" from the file menu of Finder to create a compressed version of the file, then send the archive as the attachment. This sometimes helps.

  • Getting Pages document from Mac to Pages on iPad

I have been trying to import Pages documents from my Mac to my iPad throughh iTunes and I'm having no success. I go to apps in iTunes and under file sharing Pages shows up. I click add and navigate to the file. It seems to do something but when I go to Pages on the iPad it isn't there. However in iTunes I can still copy it back to my computer from the iPad even though it couldn't be found on the iPad itself. Also I thought that the tutorial document should be visible in iTunes as well where the file sharing is but it doesn't show up either. This situation also occurs with Numbers and Keynote as well. Any ideas?

On the iPad open Pages and go to the screen where all your Pages document are... You will see a folder in the upper right. Click on that folder you should find your imported Pages document. Click on the document and it will import to Pages. The same holds true with keynote and numbers.
You can delete the document from that folder if you don't need to import it again...this will save space on your iPad.

  • Will iWork open Appleworks documents

I am hoping to transfer all my Appleworks documents from my G4 Cube running 10.4.11 onto a new iMac running Leopard, onto which I am going to install iWork 08.
I have read many comments centred around this subject, but I'm still a little confused.
The version of Appleworks on the cube is 6.2.4 which is an update from my CD version 6.0.4.
Having transferred my documents onto the iMac, do I need to reload Appleworks, or will the iWork open these documents without Appleworks being loaded?
Any guidance would be much appreciated.

    Hi John,
"Having transferred my documents onto the iMac, do I need to reload Appleworks, or will the iWork open these documents without Appleworks being loaded?"
It depends on what type of AppleWorks documents you have.
The three iWork applications, Pages, Keynote and Numbers will open AppleWorks 6 word processing, presentation and spreadsheet documents respectively.
If you have AppleWorks drawing or paint documents you will need AppleWorks or one of the few third party applications capable of opening those types. If you have AppleWorks database documents, you will need AppleWorks; no other application can open these directly.
    Regards,
    Barry

  • Appleworks Document Corruption?

    Hello,
I would like to export Appleworks documents located on an OS9 drive, to a 10.4.11 drive with an updated version of iWork '08.
I've read on this site that importing Appleworks documents to OSX can create formatting errors. I would like to know if there is a process to assure a seamless transition.
    Thank you for your time.
    J.C.

I'm not sure what you mean by "formatting errors" or "AppleWorks Document Corruption."
If your AppleWorks document is a word processing one made/last saved with AppleWorks 6, Pages will open it. Because AppleWorks does not normally add its .cwk extension to the file name, Pages is likely not going to recognize it as an AppleWorks file &, therefore, one it can open. You can set AppleWorks' preferences to add the .cwk extension in Preferences > General > Files. You can also add the .cwk extension to the file name in the Finder in either OS 9 or OS X. In OS X, see this user tip for information for adding the extension to whole folders of files at one time.
It is best to use a Mac-formatted drive or disk to transfer the file. Burning them to a CD is a good way to create a backup at the same time.
