Importing archived mailbox?

I archived two mailboxes from Apple Mail and now I can't access them. I can see them as a single conjoined mbox file in Finder. But when I try to import this file back into Apple Mail, I can click on the import folder that gets created and that opens a subfolder with the name of the archived folder but when I click on that subfolder, nothing happens. Please help.

ok, that makes sense, thanks for the help.
Do you by any chance know whether changing Gmail from POP to something else will help with my issue? how would I go about doing this and setting it up in my mail?
you can delete your current gmail account in Mail and recreate it. it will be recreated as IMAP. an imap account syncs everything with the server at all times. so you'll get in Mail exactly what you get in webmail gmail. that might mean a large download of course.
to alleviate that you can choose an option not to download attachments or only download messages that you've read. this is done in Mail preferences->accounts->advanced.
note that when you delete the old gmail account all the mailboxes for it on your computer and everything in them will be immediately deleted. so if there is something in your gmail inbox which is not in webmail gmail you should copy it to a local mailbox in "on my mac" section before deleting the account.

  • Exchange 2013 - Folders missing when importing PST to archive mailbox

    Hello,
I'm having an issue when importing PST files to an Exchange 2013 archive mailbox using the command "New-MailboxImportRequest
test -FilePath '\\server\e$\ArchiveExport\test.pst' -IsArchive -BadItemLimit 5 -ErrorAction Stop"
The import is running without an error and shows the status complete. The size of the archive mailbox is exactly the same like the size
    of the PST file!
But when I check the users archive mailbox some folders are missing. It seems that this happens only to default folders like "Inbox"
or "Sent Items". Other folders are visible.
The mailbox import log shows the following:
16.01.15 16:31:56 [server] Merging folder '/Top of Personal Folders/Inbox [Inbox]' into '/Inbox [Inbox]'.
    16.01.15 16:31:56 [server] Copying 3 items, 4.789 KB (4,904 bytes). Skipping 0 items, 0 B (0 bytes).
If I start the import process again the log says the following:
    16.01.15 16:46:54 [server] Merging folder '/Top of Personal Folders/Inbox [Inbox]' into '/Inbox [Inbox]'.16.01.15
    16:46:54 [server] Copying 0 items, 0 B (0 bytes). Skipping 3 items, 4.789 KB (4,904 bytes).
So it seems that the mails are really there but just not visible.
    I did some tests:
When  I import the PST file directly to the users mailbox (without parameter -IsArchive) I can see all content of the PST file.
When I add the parameter -TargetRootFolder "Testfolder" the whole PST content shows up correctly under that folder.
    Can anyone explain this?
    Regards

    Hi PhilippMair,
    Thank you for your question.
If all subfolders were merged, we could use OWA to check if the missing folders is appeared. If we could see missing folders by OWA, I suggest we recreate outlook profile and reset outlook view.
In order to troubleshooting, I suggest we collect the import log to analysis if the subfolder of Inbox or Sent Item is exported.
In my test lab, inbox has three subfolders, there are 123,456,789; when I import PST file, I will see the following log:
    1/20/2015 7:32:31 AM [EXCH2-CU1] Merging folder '/Top of Outlook data file/Inbox' into '/Top of Information Store/Inbox'.
    1/20/2015 7:32:31 AM [EXCH2-CU1] Copying 18 items, 302.3 KB (309,594 bytes). Skipping 0 items, 0 B (0 bytes).
    1/20/2015 7:32:32 AM [EXCH2-CU1] Merging folder '/Top of Outlook data file/Inbox/123' into '/Top of Information Store/Inbox/123'.
    1/20/2015 7:32:32 AM [EXCH2-CU1] Copying 5 items, 62.21 KB (63,699 bytes). Skipping 0 items, 0 B (0 bytes).
    1/20/2015 7:32:33 AM [EXCH2-CU1] Merging folder '/Top of Outlook data file/Inbox/456' into '/Top of Information Store/Inbox/456'.
    1/20/2015 7:32:33 AM [EXCH2-CU1] Copying 1 items, 6.908 KB (7,074 bytes). Skipping 0 items, 0 B (0 bytes).
    1/20/2015 7:32:33 AM [EXCH2-CU1] Merging folder '/Top of Outlook data file/Inbox/789' into '/Top of Information Store/Inbox/789'.
     1/20/2015 7:32:33 AM [EXCH2-CU1] Copying 1 items, 21.31 KB (21,820 bytes). Skipping 0 items, 0 B (0 bytes).
We could check if there are any subfolder which would not be merged and copied. If your import log has any abnormal, I suggest you send log file to
    [email protected] for our troubleshooting.
If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

  • Migration from 2007 and Archive Mailbox PST import question

Our enterprise will be migrating from Exchange 2007 SP3 to Exchange 2013 CU3 very shortly. Exchange 2013 is set up and I am in coexistance mode currently. Everything is working fine with the legacy redirection, I have tested some mailbox migrations and they
work fine. We currently use Mimosa Nearpoint as a third party email archive product.
As part of this migration from 2007 to 2013, we plan on moving away from Mimosa Nearpoint and utilizing the Exchange 2013 Archive Mailbox feature. We will give each user an Archive Mailbox. We have the ability to export the users existing archive out of
NearPoint to .PST files and then migrating them directly into the users Archive Mailbox using the "New-MailboxImportRequest -IsArchive" powershell commandlet. This has been tested and works fine with one very important exception.
When I export from Nearpoint, I have to export the entire contents of the archive, I cannot set date ranges. So when I do an export, it also contains the contents of the user's mailbox. I have managed folder policies in place in the Exchange 2007 environment
which delete all contents of the mailbox older than 60 days, but when I import the .PST to the archive, it imports ALL items into the Archive Mailbox. So I have 60 days worth duplication of items.
It is my understanding that if I imported the Archive .PST directly into the users production mailbox in the 2013 side, that it would not import duplicate items. I am trying to find out if there is any process which will do the same thing with me importing
directly into the users Archive Mailbox.
    Thanks you,

    Hi,
We used a third patry email archive product to export to .pst files, so it is too hard to say that whether it cause this issue.
However, I found a method to delete the duplicate items from our mailbox via MFCMAPI Tool.
Please make sure that the Exchange Server mailbox has been backed up first.
    Details in the following KB:
How to remove duplicate folders in Outlook when connected to an Exchange Server mailbox
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2509983
I also found a script to remove duplicate items.
This script will scan each folder of a given mailbox and removes duplicate items from those folders. You can specify how the items should be deleted and what items to process, e.g. mail items or appointments. Sample usage is after a misbehaving synchronization
tool creates duplicate items or (accidental) import of PST file with duplicate items.

  • Outlook 2013 cached mode "mail to keep offline" - does this setting affect archive mailbox or Office 365 hosted archive mailbox?

I have an Exchange 2013 Hybrid environment with Exchange 2007 in coexistance mode as well as Office 365. We are hosting the majority of our Exchange accounts on-premise (migrating them from 2007), and most (soon to be ALL) Archive mailboxes in Office 365.
I have through Group policy set the policy "Select Cached Exchange Mode sync settings for new profiles" to 6 months. This works fine for the contents of the regular mailbox, but the setting is NOT being set at all for the Online Archive mailbox,
whether or not it is hosted on-premise or in Office 365. Is this the expected behavior?
Another question: Is it possible to have the regular mailbox in cached mode and the archive in Online mode or vice versa?

    Hi,
The key to your questions is: Archive mailboxes are online only, they cannot be cached for offline viewing, so you can keep your regular mailboxes offline(In Cached Exchange Mode) or Online, but cannot switch Archive mailboxes to Offline.
The whole idea of the archive mailbox is to keep your "online" mailbox with recent / important mails small and accessible on and offline. The archive mailbox is intended to store older / less important emails which are not neccessary to access immediately.
One important reason of archive mailbox is to prevent the growth of offline files.

  • Can't import my mailboxes from Tiger Mail into Leopard

    Hi everyone,
I bought a new MBP and I'm now in the process of carefully importing my mailboxes from Tiger mail, on my Tiger backup HD, to the new mail program. I have about 20000 messages saved since 1999, sorted by project etc. Each time I select a batch of mailboxes to import, I get a failure message when it's almost done, saying that some messages couldn't be imported. This is very frustrating: my e-mail archive is possible the most important collection of files on the computer. I would hate for it to become messed up/corrupted.
    Thanks for any suggestions!
    Alex

Try copying the directory ~/Library/Mail/ (the library folder in your home directory) from your old computer to the same location on your Leopard install. I believe the versions of Mail in Tiger and Leopard use the same directory structure, so this should work.

  • Unable to connect to disconnected archive mailbox

    Hi,
We are using exchange 2013 CU3 in our environment, When we try to connect to a disconnected mailbox using EAC or powershell it gets succeeds for Primary mailbox however if I try the same way to connect archive mailbox it throws me a error "The legacy
DN is already in use by following active directory user " Primary mailbox User name". The vaule Legacy DN must be unique to each other
can anyone help me in this ? Is this a bug in exchange 2013 ?

You Can do that . Do the Following steps :
    1)Enable old AD user
2)Enable Exchange mailbox for old user (Don't enable Archive Mailbox)
3)Open Exchange Powershell cmd then :  (This is an example)
         Enable-Mailbox -ArchiveGuid "0a914fb5-78a4-4f54-8a99-55e12dd0d738" -ArchiveDatabase "Archive
Dtabase name "            -Identity "Anderiasian , Edna"
4)by this command the archive linked to old user
    5) after completing , export the archive mailbox to  PST file
    6)Import PST file to New User Archive-Mailbox ;

  • Import Archived Mail from another Mac

    Hi Folks -
I have a large mail database in Apple Mail from another Mac (with Mavericks).  I would like to bring the mail messages over to a different Mac with Yosemite and into Apple Mail, so they are local and searchable in Spotlight.  I was think I just have to copy the database from the ~/Library/Mail to the new Mac, but I'm not sure if I should be doing an import function in Mail.
Can anyone advise on the best workflow to migrate Mail messages to a new Mac?  Note: I would like to keep all the existing Mail messages that are already residing on the new Mac and add to them with the above mentioned archive.
    Thanks
    Paul

Copy and then Import. You will probably end up with 2 archives, which you can combine by copying from one archive (hold down the shift key while selecting the e-mails) to the other. Then you can delete the empty archive mailbox.

  • Import/Export mailbox - what is included by default?

Hello! I think this is unclear in the documentation:
Will a new export request export the complete mailbox by default? Included contacts, calendar, online archive?
    New-MailboxExportRequest -Mailbox Username -FilePath \\savelocation\username.pst
    Kthxbai

    Hi Kthxbai,
The cmdlet below can take all folders and data in each and export it into the specified PST file. Also note that things such as the dumpster now can and by default will be exported.
    New-MailboxExportRequest –Mailbox HEW –FilePath \\Ex02\PSTFiles\HEW.pst

  • Question about Archiving Mailboxes

I keep almost all of my mail On My Mac > Personal Mail, then divided into subfolders beneath that.  I back up to Time Machine.
This morning I noticed one of those sub folders was missing, and had to go back more than 24 hours to recover it.  Not sure how it went missing, but it did.
I am wondering what is the diffference between using Archive Mailbox under the Mailbox menu and keeping the messages in folders On My Mac?
I think my mailboxes are just getting too darn big, try as I might to contain them.  I'm a mail hoarder.
    Thanks for any insight

How you backup and what you backup to is all about taking a calculated risk. In other words, what's it worth to you?
Ultimately, whatever method you choose, I think redundancy is the most important factor. It doesn't matter if you have half-a-dozen backups, if they're all in the same place and the building burns down, they're all gone.
Yes, hard drives are flimsy and fail, but you can easily duplicate a backup and store them in separate locations; then, make regular maintenance checks to see if they're viable. The probability of two backups failing simultaneously is astronomically low; the probability of one backup failing is astronomically high. For the average person, most dedicated backup systems are too far out of reach, pricewise and from an infrastructure standpoint. Duplicating hard drives is pretty crude, but it's cheap so long as you exercise due diligence.

  • Archiving Mailboxes 10.5.8

I realize this has probably been covered but I am unable to locate the thread so I am posting this in a new one.
Here's the deal I understand archiving mailboxes should be done as a last resort because in order to access the data you have to put it back on the hard drive as well as being able to "search" it.
That stated is there a way to individually copy and paste emails onto an external drive and be able to access the data without having to bring them back onto the main drive like we do when we target copy and paste a file?
    Peace,
    Robert

    Robert,
What should work is with the message open, click on File/Save As and then choose the Raw Message Format and save to a folder anywhere. The file will have a name constructed from the Subject, and if you open that folder, Open with Mail is a choice, and the message can be read without any importation back into Mail.
Just tested this in Mail 4.3, but I am pretty it is the same in Mail 3.6, which I can test with another boot volume.

  • Import OSX mailbox from leopard to tiger

i am trying to import a mailbox from Mail in 10.5.8 to Mail in 10.4.11 but either i am choosing the wrong folder to import or the files are not backwards compatible?
I have tried choosing user library/Mail/POP(email address) which contains an INBOX.mbox and the associated deleted/junk/etc folders but i just get a "no valid Mail for OSX files found" message
i get the same message trying to import an archived INBOX.mbox folder
is there a way to do this, aside from upgrading to Leopard
the Tiger machine is a G5 iMac running Mail v2.1.3 and the Leopard is an Intel imac running Mail v3.6

    thanks for your reply
i just tried that and got a handful of messages from an old import folder on the other mac
    SO
i went back and tried the POP .mbox again and it worked this time, so i'm very happy
    thank you

What is main diff b/w imported Archives and External Defination in IR

    Hi Vijay,
ED-standard schema for describing the message structure. If you have the structure provided to you from some external application you can use it in PI directly without recreating in PI.you can import following formats which are used to describe message schema
    WSDL (Web Service Description Language),
    XSD (XML Schema Definition Language),
    DTDs (Document Type Definitions)
Imported Archives: its used basically for java and xslt mapping where you create the required mapping externally using some tools
(java-eclipse/NWDS .XSLT-stylus studio). You can also implement XSLT and Java mappingsf and save them as archives in the Integration Repository.

Official doc about Skin as Portal Resource: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E25178_01/webcenter.1111/e10148/jpsdg_skin.htm#BAJFAHFG
You have to put your path + file name to export your ear file.
If you don't see your created file in the path that you configured then see Messages - Log of JDeveloper if you have permission problems to write.
    Regards.
PD: Sorry i mistake talking about .mar file instead of EAR file
