Importing Articulate into Captivate
Hi everyone,
I am trying to import Articulate Engage or Quizzes into Cp4 and am getting no where. I followed the instructions on the blog and nothing seems to work.
Does anyone have some step by step instructions to help?
Would be much appreciated.
Here is what I have tried:
1. Exported Engage as engage.swf
2. Opened Cp and inserted engage.swf as animation
3. Changed preferences to externalize Animations
4. Published to folder, naming engageandcp.swf
5. Copied engageandcp.swf to original engage.swf folder
When I open the Cp file I get a white screen.
I am having the same problem! I just started working on this today. The problem seems to be that Articulate doesn't generate one single stand alone .swf file. I will keep watching for responses to your post. If I figure it out, I will update this forum.

How to import bullets into Captivate 8?
Hi!
I want to use bullets from Word in my Captivate 8 composition.
I found an old article describing how to do it: I Came, I Saw, I Learned...: Adobe Captivate: Custom Bullets in Text Captions Made Easy
However, I can't make it work. Is there an other way to import bullets into Captivate 8?
BR,
MadeleineNo, it is not really possible. You could use ASCII code to insert bullets
or characters from webdings or wingdings fonts.

How to import questions into Captivate 4 from a delimited file
I'm looking
a way to import questions from a delimited text file (or excel spreadsheet)
into captivate.
All the questions are simple multiple choice, single answer, four selections per question.
I have hundreds - I'd hate to have to retype them all in one at a time.
Thanks in advance
-JoanDoes anyone know if this is a feature in Captivate 5.
Other things I would really like to see in Captivate 5.
Importing and Exporting the graded quiz/test content out of captivate into another
application/ form. Such as xml, tab delimited, excel spreadsheet,
Adobe pdf, Word document or another format. Our current content
developement systems allows us to (when publishing) do this.
1> exclude questions from the Published content
(exclude section questions, or final test content)
2> produce different test versions from question banks
3> Produce a PDF paper test for when we want to train in a classroom setting
4> Select which questions we want to produce
5> Import questions from a pre-defined format. To note: when we do this the system also makes us define a unique interaction id so that the import will update existing questions.
I know this will NOT work for some of the more sophisticated questions, But for the simple Mulitple choice, true/false, fill in the blank. etc..
THIS WOULD BE A GREAT FEATURE..
It would also be NICE TO HAVE THE abiliy to PROFILE versions of the SAME Course WITH OUT REPRODUCING / DUPLICATING / REPEATING THE ENTIRE COURSE PRESENTATION.
Such as
"INSTRUCTOR TAUGHT TRAINING"
"WEB TRAINING"
"PAPER TEST A"
"PAPER TEST B"
ETC...
LASTLY: if we can not export the QUIZ content. Can an excel spreadsheet LIKE INTERFACE be used to edit certain aspects of the questions.
Such as the InteractionId which is sent to the LMS ('cmi.interactions.0.id'). My developer team says it is real difficult and time consuming
to track down interactionIds and then maintain them in a perfect way.

Importing flash into Captivate 2
I know there are some posts on this, but I cant' seem to
figure out what the issue is- Each time I import my file into
Captivate it complains the actionscript is referencing _root, which
it is- I've changed it to _parent after reading some other posts,
doesn't work- it's a small menu I want to use within captivate to
navigate to the other parts of my presentation- what is the deal?
I'm so annoyed! Any help is appreciated! Here is my code:
this._lockroot= true
_root.HomePage.onEnterFrame = function() {
if (mouse_over_HomePage) {
_root.HomePage.nextFrame();
} else {
_root.HomePage.prevFrame();
_root.AboutUs.onEnterFrame = function() {
if (mouse_over_AboutUs) {
_root.AboutUs.nextFrame();
} else {
_root.AboutUs.prevFrame();
_root.Services.onEnterFrame = function() {
if (mouse_over_Services) {
_root.Services.nextFrame();
} else {
_root.Services.prevFrame();
_root.DesignAdvice.onEnterFrame = function() {
if (mouse_over_DesignAdvice) {
_root.DesignAdvice.nextFrame();
} else {
_root.DesignAdvice.prevFrame();
_root.OnlineStore.onEnterFrame = function() {
if (mouse_over_OnlineStore) {
_root.OnlineStore.nextFrame();
} else {
_root.OnlineStore.prevFrame();
_root.ContactUs.onEnterFrame = function() {
if (mouse_over_ContactUs) {
_root.ContactUs.nextFrame();
} else {
_root.ContactUs.prevFrame();
};Hi lisalis72
You might want to consider also posting this question over in
the
Flash
Forums. There are some here that regularly combine Flash with
Captivate, but most of us are clueless with Flash and only work
with Captivate. So your chances of seeing an answer might be better
over in the Flash forums.

Hello,
I am new to Captivate 5, my scenario is - I want to publish videos (swf) files on our help desk. Previously all such files were part of HTML pages which require registration.Importantly I got all those flash files by getting the path of the file from HTML pages (eg. I opened the source of HTML page and navigated to where the swf file is mentioned and cut paste it)
- Can I open existing swf files into Captivate 5
Regards
SyedWelcome to our community
Are you asking if Captivate will allow you to click File > Open and open one of these files and allow you to make edits to it?
If so, the answer is no, it will not allow that. You should be able to insert one of these files as an animation on a slide, but how well that may or may not work will depend on a number of factors.

Help! I have a swf (flash movie) I am importing into
Captivate 3. The swf (flash movie) is 6 frames. I need the movie to
start on page 2 with the option of selecting the previous and/or
next buttons (also set up within that movie).
Right now if it displays on page 2/6, 3/6, through to 6/6
...I have no way of getting back to the previous pages. Hope this
makes sense. I am just trying everything I can or know to get this
working.
Using ActionScript 2 - Flash 8Hi All - I made the adjustments as noted above. Published at
30fps and Action Script 1.0. Checked transparency. Tried loading
from top and bottom in Flash publish settings. Still no luck.
I tried some other experiments as well. I right clicked on
the animation and tried moving to front / back etc. with no change
in results. But, when I merged the animation with slide background
... i could see an image of my swf in the published and preview
versions. But, it was static - not playing. -
Intermittent problems importing images into Captivate 5 from PowerPoint 2010 slides
Occasionally, when I import slides from a PowerPoint 2010 pptx file, certain of the images don't move over into captivate.
Most (if not all) of my images have been saved as .jpg files, so I don't believe that there would be problems with different file types. Some of the images may be saved at different quality levels; could this possibly affect the import process?
I can't identify what about these images somehow mark them as "different" to Captivate, and therefore prevents their importation.
Any help that can be provided is appreciated.Hi Rahul,
I would but I am not the original poster. You will have to wait for JDPJDPJDPJDP to send you the file.
Best regards,

Hi all
I have an animation in both swf and html5. As it was done by external software importing the flash is not running properly. I want to import html5 animation into captivate. Is it possible? Using packager gives some issue in animation size. So I want to import directly to captivate with the resources or assets.
Thanks in advance.No possibility to import directly, app packager is only way unless you create your own web pages.

Is it possible to import data into Captivate 5?
Is it possible to import data back into a Captivate 5 lesson, that was stored to a server or database from earlier in the Captivate 5 lesson? We would like to redisplay data from one screen to another. Some if it is quiz results, some just responses to questions we ask the user and we sould like to show it again for discussion on the next screen or in an entirely separate lesson. Thanks.
You can easily store data in user variables that will persist for the duration of the user's browser session for a given Captivate lesson. But if you want to have the same data persist over multiple browser sessions you need to write this data to cookies on the users PC or else write it to a database somewhere online and pull it back from there in later modules.
The first option using variables is quite easy to do with Advanced Actions.
The second option using an external database is much more difficult and would require ActionScript programming skills as well as database programming skills for the specific database technology you use and the scripting technologies used to write and retrieve data from it. If you don't have these skillsets yourself, you're going to need to put together a project with a budget to hire the designers and developers required to pull it off. -
Cannot import audio into Captivate 3.0
We created WAV files using Adobe Audition. When we try to use
the Import > Audio feature we get the following error:
Unable to decode and import the selected WAV/MP3 File.
I am able to listen to the file through Windows media player
and Windows sound recorder without any issue, I just cannot get it
to import into my Captivate project.
any ideas on what we can do?Welcome to our community, danibo83
If you are seeing this when attempting to use a gallery sound
that ships with Captivate 4, then I would certainly call it a bug.
I would also strongly encourage you to report it to Adobe as same.

I imported a wave audio file that sounds ok outside of
Captivate and it sounds very tinny on the timeline. I'm thinking
that Captivate imported the audio with compression although there
are not settings to change imported audio but you can change
exported audio quality. Does anyone have a solution to this?Hi SM6601,
I don't know if you've looked here, but try adjusting the
settings under
Edit -> Preferences -> Project -> Settings ->
Audio Quality. This can also be adjusted on the pop-up page when
you publish your project.

When importing a flash animation into captivate flash will not call external files
Is there a way to import flash into captivate and it still be able to call external files (ie. sound, video xml)? When I import flash into captivate it will not call any external file.
Hi all
Wow, I was so hoping fellow Adobe Community Expert Paul Dewhurst would pop in on this thread.
Why? Well, Paul sent me a way cool gizmo a while back that hacked the Info button. It used an external file for some of the information! So somehow Paul managed to sort what it took to insert a Flash object into Captivate and have that object extract data from an externally located file.

Importing Flash Animation AS3 into Captivate 3.0
I have some animations and interactions that were written in
Flash AS3, that work fine when published in a SWF file and run with
FlashPlayer 9, but they don't work at all when I import them into
Captivate 3.0. In Captivate, they seem to run when they apear in
the in the Insert -> Animation dialog box., but then once they
are placed in Captivate, they don't show up at all when I Preview
-> Project (F4). The dialog box says that the duration of the
animation is 00:00:00.1 (i.e., one tenth of a second!). What was on
the stage (from the Flash file) shows up, but none of the AS3 code
works. Help!!If you create an AS3 widget in Cp4, you'll notice that is starts you off using a template. Most of the action takes place on the onEnterFrame event handler. If you want something specific to occur at a certain time, you must place a condition for either the current slide, or the current frame. Otherwise, the actions you describe above will occur... you animation AS3 code just executes immediately because Cp doesn't know when to execute it otherwise . I'd suggest that you either use the widget framework, or place a condition in your code for executing on a specific frame or slide. When I create widgets, I check for a specific frame:
if (mainmov.rdinfoCurrentFrame == currentFrameCheck) {
//your code here
If you go this route, I'd look into another function called AddNoSkipFrame which ensures Cp4 will not skip over the frame you're trying to check. You can read more about it here. And there's a thread about it here.
Good Luck,
Jim Leichliter -
PP07 not importing into Captivate 4 as I need it to...HELP
In Captivate 3 when I import a PP slide it imports it into captivate as an object on the Captivae slide. However, in Captivate 4 it does not import it as an object on a slide, but the slide itself. I need it to import as it did in C3...suggestions?
TIA,
cgoebelHi there
I'm thinking that even those steps won't solve your issue. You might first try to insert a Click Box object to pause the slide before it ends. Captivate 4 introduces a new wrinkle with this feature in that when a slide ends it seems to always do the fade out regardless of other settings. So the only way I've discovered to prevent that is to use something to pause the slide before the fade out occurs.

FYI - Importing Translated XML (XLIFF) into Captivate 5
I just want to make a point about an issue I've come across when translating a Captivate 5 project.
On exporting to XML - which is actually a mono-lingual XLIFF format in reality, this is where the problems start.
A true XLIFF file contains both source and target tags which is what happened to me when I used the file in a translation application.
On importing back into Captivate I couldn't see my translated text - the file was converted to a true XLIFF format (source and target tags).
So even thou the target had my translations Captivate was only concerned with the source tags!
I had to write a batch script then to change around the source/target tag content.
Hopefully this will help someone who's come across this in the future.
I think Adobe should include a target tag identifier on importing so the user can choose the language they want to import back in.
It just seems strange having translations inside a <source> </source> tag!
My 2 cents anyway,
KeithHi everyone.
Is there any update and support in Adobe Captivate 8 of XLIFF 2.0 ?
I have to write an interactive tutorial that I want to be able to offer for localization while updating the software itself.
That means I am looking for language updates. To volunteer translators I don't want to offer full re-writes of PO or XML files.
Please advice.
