Importing .asf files, blurry in source/sequence monitors and output

I have a large amount of material to work with in .asf form, 480x360 resolution. I'll be outputting to 480x360 as well, so no scaling/zooming needed at all. Problem is, when I import one of those asfs it immediately becomes blurry, i.e. in the source monitor even before I insert it into the sequence and do any modifications. Comparing the imported files to the originals there is a noticeable difference at the exact same dimensions.
I've made sure my sequence settings are at 480x360 resolution. Not sure where else to look on this, any suggestions?
In the past I've done a very similar workflow in PE with no problems, so I'm assuming (hoping??) that there's some easily changed option. Thanks in advance.

Have tried various other permutations in project setup and output - still no luck.
I'm wondering if a clue is the behavior of the program monitor - the clip displays clearly in it until I 'select' the video screen, at which point it blurs just like the output. If I click another area of the screen again, the image resharpens, and so forth. Anyone know what mechanism is causing that?

  • Badly in need of help: Importing asf-files to iTunes

    Hi all,
I have a truely oldfashioned problem. I work as a teacher and some of the materials I use are on cd-rom using asf-format. I'd really like to import the files to iTunes (and then to my iPad, 3rd gen.) so that it's easier to handle when I don't have access to a cd-rom/dvd drive.
    Do you have any suggestions?

It might be very, very difficult to work with the files.  It is strange that a CD would use a streaming format since that is usually a web page format.  If it is in a proprietary format you will need a player specifically designed to accommodate that.  then too they may be in WMA format instide that stream which means proprietary format inside proprietary format.  That format is designed primarily for Windos systems so add on a third hurdle.
You can check out VLC media player and see if it will play them.  You can likely copy the CD to your computer and use if from there.  I don't know if you can find anything to convert though.

  • How do i import .asf files?

hi, i have an aptek digital camcorder that says it records as mpeg4dv but the files are actually .asf files. imoveie hd6 won't import these files and give me this message:
    Error during Import
The files could not be imported: The file "Macintosh HD/Volumes/NO NAME/DCIM/100MEDIA/CLIP0001.ASF" can't be imported; QuickTime couldn't parse it: -2408
Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks!

Hi Horror... I must have misinterpreted Google's comment:
    "avi convert macintosh downloads
MPEG Streamclip 1.7. High-quality converter for MPEG files and transport ... Convert many video files ... to resize or convert wmv, asf, avi, mp4, mpg, mpeg ..."
By that comment it appeared that StreamClip supported .asf conversion.
    Thanks for the correction.

  • Import asf file into ipod

How I can download asf file (Windows Media Audio/Video file) into ipod? thanks.
    ipod mini   Windows XP

I follow the link but I can't convert the asf file in my computer to mp3 file
Correct. This was already explained it is not possible using iTunes.
The link shows you how to convert WMA to an iPod format, just liked you asked.
If you want to convert AFS to an iPod format, you will have to find another converter (try google).
Also, you I highly recommend you convert to the much higher quality AAC and not MP3.

  • Importing Text file in to iTunes with song and artist names

A friend made a compilation CD for me. He exported the artist and song names in to a text file from iTunes. I am having trouble importing the information in to my itunes. The people at the apple store said that it was not possible and that I would have to import his whole iTunes library.
    Thanks.

    Hi Dennis,
In order to import flat files into MDM do the following. This solution is specific to MS Windows:
    I. Set up ODBC for *.txt or *.csv files
    1. Open Data Sources (ODBC) interface:
    Start> Settings> Control Panel--> Administrative Tools -->Data Sources (ODBC).
    2. Select System DSN Tab in Data Sources (ODBC) interface.
    3. Click on [Add]. Select the Microsoft Text Driver. Click Finish.
    4. Write a Data Source Name
    5. Uncheck Use Current Directory to enable the [Select Directory…] button.
    6. Click on [Select directory…] to determine the source directory.
    7. Select the source file.
    8. Click [OK] and return to the ODBC Text Setup screen.
    9. Click [OK].
    10. Return to the ODBC Data Source Administrator dialog and click [OK].
    II. Importing from Flat file
    1. Run MDM Import Manager.
    2. Select ODBC from the Type drop-down field of the Connect To Source dialog.
    3. Enter the DSN name from the Setup ODBC Connection dialog above.
    4. Select the file name with extension (.csv or .txt) in the Tables panel of MDM Import Manager and the file content in the Records panel.
Hope this solved your problem. Please mark helpful answers

  • Rendering white flicker on the program monitor and output video file. How to get rid of this flicker in adobe premiere pro cc 2014?

    Hello,
I have been working with long sequences in adobe premiere pro cc 2014. All of sudden, I see white flicker in the program monitor and rendered output too. The flicker does not follow any pattern. It is very random.
How to work around on this?
    Regards
    Naveen Alle

Concurrently working on the same project it requires a specific implementation in all editing programs like Avid's Unity/ ISIS shared storage. That's what you are simply not considering. none of your issues would be any problem if your projects resided on a commonly accessed server or something like that. Check respective hardware solutions.

  • Please explain the relationship between sequence setting and output

I am looking for an explanation of the sequence setting and the output settings (Mac Quad core, 10.7.4 - CS6 Production Premium, PR)  I am primarily working in AVC-I 100 and XDCam. I've found that I can drop in AVC-I into a Seq and it will set the Seq to that codec. Many times I'll need to send the in-progress and final edits to my clients as an WMV (HD) video file. In FCP, I would export the self contained seq and use Episode to transcode to wmv. I'm having trouble understanding the best way to do this in PR (CS6).  I've found that if I leave the Seq setting to the AVC-I, the render and the file output is a 50% quality mpeg-I. Is it best to set up a custom sequence w/ ProRes as the render codec? I'm having a hard time finding or getting an explanation of best practices for this type of operation. Any guidance would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    jim

Remember I said you could force Pr to use your rendered preview files instead of the source media for export?  Selecting Match Sequence Settings in the Export Media dialog is how you force it.  Don't do that.  And don't shoot the messenger -- I've lobbied against that label for that control for 2 versions now.
Some Export formats, like H.264 Blu-ray and MPEG2-DVD, have an available Preset called "Match Source Attributes".  If you choose that Preset, you get something like this:

  • Discrepancy between HD monitor and output video

    Howdy community,
I have a weird problem with Final Cut Pro 7. I have an Asus VW266H HD monitor, set at a good viewing angle on my desk. When I was editing some footage, it looked WAY too dark, so I used a color correction filter and brought the blacks up to 95. The resulting image in the FCP viewer window is the one you see on the left in my screen shot. I hope you can imagine just how dark the original footage was. I was reasonably satisfied with how the footage looked, especially since it wasn't looking "milky" like it can if you lighten/whiten too much in post.
So then I exported the footage, and got the image on the right (in my screen shot). These two images are from the same second of video, on the same monitor. NO changes were made between the exported version in QT on the right and the FCP viewer image on the left.
Why does my monitor and/or the final cut viewer window show me an image that does not represent my output? If the image in final cut and the exported version in quick time look so different, how can I trust my eye in final cut?
Obviously, this is a huge problem.
    Please help!!!

If that is the case, how does the editor control how the image looks to others?
You can't. This general problem has been around since the advent of moving pictures. Wander over to the video wall at any big box store and look at the displays. There won't be two that appear alike. All you can do is control the image you send out.
If you are seriously interested in image integrity, get yourself a output device from AJA, BlackMagic, Matrox, etc that can send a qualified signal and a calibrated broadcast TV monitor to to view that signal. Then you'll know what it really looks like.
To paraphrase the old Yiddish saying, "A man with two clocks can never be sure of the time, but, man with an atomic clock, will know."
    Good luck.

I have also opened the DAC server and client in console mode and I m not able to see any errors. • Imported QT file looks small in sequence window

I imported a QT produced on an Avid into FCP.
The footage was shot 24pA Anamorphic.
My capture setting in FCP are set for 24pA Anamorphic.
When I capture direct from tape the widescreen image fills the screen in the canvas windows- the way it should.
When I import the QT file- the image does not fill up the screen. It is the full image but small in size. It's similiar to what you would see on a studio monitor set to underscan mode.
Is there a way to get the image to fill the screen?

If your settings are 16:9, and captured footage is 16:9, then the issue resides with the AVID export.
Can you go back and determine the project settings and export there?
    best wishes

  • Color correction in multicam source sequence

Hi everybody, this is really making me crazy.
I've created a multicam source sequence from three clips in the bin (3 camera angles).
I imported the newly created multicam source sequence in a new sequence and I began cutting it.
    It's a 40 minutes theatre piece.
When I was at 20 minutes I realized that one camera has a slightly off white balance.
How do I make the color correction to only one camera angle in a multicam source sequence ?
If I open the multicam source sequence in the Source Monitor I can't drag any effect.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Issues w/ notes when importing Word files; better as RTF?

    Hi,
I've always had issues when importing Word files into InDesign CS4, and after just getting CS5 it seems that they haven't been eliminated. Since it looks as though I'm going to have to just deal with these issues (I have to accept Word files from a wide variety of sources, so I can't move to an InCopy workflow, unfortunately) I thought I'd ask for some advice.
After reading some suggestions on this forum I began making sure to accept all tracked changes and then saving to a .docx file before importing. But I have still been having trouble with disappearing endnotes (ie all notes in the text up to a certain number just get lost, even though the references at the end of the text are complete); and often the first note (the reference, not just the number) appears in an anchored text box within the text. Disappearing note numbers are the most frustrating, because it's easy to miss until much later in the layout process. Is anyone else having these problems? In fact, in a few cases saving to .docx seems to -cause- more problems than it solves.
In any case, it seems that saving as an RTF file can produce better results, but I'm a bit wary about doing this all the time in case information gets lost when moving to RTF, or in case there are problems that I just haven't noticed yet in importing RTF files.
So, long story short, is there any reason I -shouldn't- save all my Word files as RTF files to avoid problems when importing them in InDesign?
If anyone has other suggestions for steps to follow when importing Word files (besides dealing with tracked changes and saving as .docx or RTF) please feel free to mention those as well!

I don't know much about your particular case (endnotes) so I can't offer much in the way of specific advice. I also don't know where your Word files are coming from, but for me the best workflow is when
    1) I make an ID template
    2) I export an RTF from that template
    3) People use those RTF templates in Word and fill 'em with text
    4) People send me Word-edited RTFs
    5) I place those RTFs
It's useful to know what you will lose when going from DOC -> DOCX -> place in INDD
    or
    DOC -> RTF -> INDD
but the only way to know for sure is to test with your content. Some things break when saving to RTF from Word, but I've found that those things are mostly Word-specific stuff that I wouldn't want in any file to be placed in ID. Text boxes, WordArt (faugh), other things that MS has spot-welded onto the side of their word processing app.
