Importing AVCHD from Panasonic AG-AC130A

I had been using FCP7 to import my AVCHD 1080p footage to Apple Pro Res.  Now I just got a new Mac Pro Cylinder and since I can no longer use FCP7
I have to start using FCPX for Import.  I have my import set to create optimized media.   When I go to movie inspector in Quicktime it tells me that the files are AVC 1 format.
Is that right?   I want to make sure that I am bringing in my footage at the best quality for editing.   Why doesn’t FCPX give me a drop down of video codecs to select from?
Am I overthinking this?  Is AVC1 equivalent to Apple Pro Res 422?

The movie inspector shows you the original file. The FCP Info inspector also displays the original file information. At the bottom of the Info inspector a green dot will show which file formats are available, original, optimized, and proxy.

  • How to import AVCHD from Panasonic DMC-FT1?

    Hello everybody,
I just tried to import AVCHD Lite media files from a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT1 (also known as DMC-TS1) using an USB card reader and the log and transfer function.
A preview of the media files works, even the sound is ok.
When I mark the video for import it tries to import it, but if I click on the clip its status becomes a red {!}. An offered retry gives the same result.
Sometimes, especially after a preview of the media file, the log and transfer function crashes the whole FCE application.
    Thank you for your help!
    Best regards,
    Florian

OK, I tried tried this. No direct success but after changing settings I will try again.
I don't know your camera nor its terminology, what's the frame size and frame rate and audio format and sample rate?
Sorry - the technical documentation is not very good. Here is what I found out:
    1,280 x 720 pixels, AVCHD Lite (SH: 17 Mbps / H: 13 Mbps / L: 9 Mbps):
[NTSC] 60p *CCD output is 30p (fps).
[PAL] 50p *CCD output is 25p (fps).
Since I live in Germany I've got a PAL model.

    Thanks for the links!
(None was about Panasonic, but lots about import problems like mine.)
Is the audio set to plain stereo in log and transfer?
Yes, I chose "simple stereo" instead of "matrix stereo".
Maybe this is important: The camera has only one microphone. And it has a feature called "Dolby Digital Creator".
    Did you empty the cache?
I remember something like that. I'll try again.
What drive are you ingesting to? How is it formatted?
It's an external USB 2.0 hard drive. It's formatted with Mac OS Extended (Case senstive and journaled)
    Do you have Perian installed?
    No.
It's very possible this doesn't work with FCE, but it might, so if you give us as much information as you can maybe we can see something that can be adjusted to make this work.
Thanks a lot for your effort!
I see you're using a Mac mini. What are the full specs of that? It's going to be very borderline for editing video and some things in the application will not work.
2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB RAM (3 GB usable)
Intel GMA 950 graphics using 64 MB RAM
    200 GB 7200rpm hard drive
1 TB USB 2.0 external hard drive
Looking at the simple configuration of FCE, none seems to really fit:
We have "AVCHD-Apple Intermediate Codec" but not with 1280x720.
We have "HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 720p25" but not with AVCHD.
And, of course, lots more. Which one should I choose?
    Thank you, again!

Can't import AVCHD from Canon F10 into FinalCutPro 6.0.4 via USB. When opening Log&Transfer in FCP, no files show up (the Log&Transfer window do not seem to recognize the files on the camera). The camera shows up in Finder, though. - Do I need a driver?

sorry, of course USB is available for L&T, I use it every Friday so I should know better, I got two replies mixed up completly so thanks for correcting my mistake.
what I meant to suggest was if the camera does not show in finder or in L&T check the camea menu setting is set to connect to the hard drive and not from the camera or memory card.

  • Impossible to import videos from Panasonic SDR s26 to iMovie 09, previously no problem. Why?

Impossible to import videos from Panasonic SDR s26 to iMovie 09, previously no problem. Any way to solve this problem?

I don't have your model but here are some things to try.
    1) Make sure you are powering the camcorder with AC power not batteries.
    2) Open iMovie before connecting the Camcorder
    3) Connect the USB Cable and turn on the camcorder
    4) Open the LCD screen of the camcorder. Does it give you a choice of Pictbridge vs. PC Mode. If so, choose PC Mode.
    5) iMovie import screen should come up.
Also, make sure you have installed all software updates. (/Software Update). If the software update requires you to restart your Mac, then restart your Mac before proceeding. Install iMovie, iLife, Quicktime, and Leopard updates.
If that still does not work, try taking out your SD card and putting in a USB card reader.
If that still does not work, put the card back in the camcorder and make a disk image of the card using disk utility. After making the disk image, try formatting the card using your camcorder menu. Then retry shooting some footage and importing.
By the way, using MPEG streamclip should not create files any larger than iMovie will create using an import function.

  • After Import AVCHD from Sony CX730, IMPOSSIBLE to put the video on the Timeline!!!!!

I have bought Premiere  three days ago. I am working on a AVCHD project, with clips from a Sony FS700 (1080 50p), and clips from a Sony CX730 (1080 25p). I can import the clips but for the CX730 clips it is impossible to put them on the timeline!!!!!
I can put the audio (5-1) on audio 4, but impossible to put the video... Everybody told me that Premiere support all the codec on the same project... It is not true!!!
    Why????

Yes! you are right, every thing work well now!! Thanks a lot!

  • Imported AVCHD from canon hg10 looks distorted?

    Hi,
I import AVCHD from my canon hg10 with the correct setting, but once imported the footage is distorted.
Any ideas why I'm getting this problem?
The same footage imported to iMovie plays back fine, just in premiere pro CS5 it appears distorted.
Incase this is helpful, my set up is:
    - Mac Pro 8 Core
    - Apple LED Cinema Display 27"

  • Import 1920x1080 from panasonic sd5

Importing 1440x1080i avchd footage from Panasonic SD5 is fine.
BUT iMovie08 change my 1920x1080i footage's height aspect ratio when it's being imported.
My wife is now looking like a FATTY woman in my iMove08 project 8>
    Anyone can help me?

I went out and bought the SD5 last night. I have only had a few minutes to do some tests. I took some footage in the full 1920x1080 and some in the 1440x1080. I have not tried connecting the camera to my Mac Book Pro, but did connect the USB card reader that came with the 4GB SDHC card. When I ran iMovie 08 it recognized that card as a camera and went to the import screen. I was able to import my photos. So I guess the short answer is that the SD5 will work with the new iMovie. When it imports the clips they are much larger than the AVCHD versions. It imports them as AIC format.
Now as was mentioned in this thread there is some caveats when importing. For all the full 1920x1080 clips it imported them as 2560x1980 an the 1440x1080 clips were imported as 1920x1080. This was a little annoying, but when I shared using export to Quicktime I made sure I just changed the size to 1920x1080 for the ones that were 2560x1080. The exported movie looked fine again.
I do like the higher res and random access capability of the AVCHD camera vs a tape one. But I have to get use to that importing the clips takes longer than the clips. Whereas with tape the import is 1:1 with the length of the clips. So I guess it is a trade off of convenience of picking the clips you want vs a faster import on tape.
Also you better have a lot of HD space. These clips get very large when they are imported. A 20 sec clip was approx 200MB when imported. I will have to play with this to see if there is anything I can do with it.
I do like that the card was recognized as the camera in my card reader so i do not have to connect the camera every time. I will have to try connecting the camera though to see if that does work. My next test is to see if I can copy the AVCHD files to a DVD and use that as an archiving step for my clips. I hope the DVD will then be recognized as the camera and I can import from the DVD since that is cheaper to backup the clips than having many SDHC cards.
I hope that apple puts out an update that will fix the 2560 problem. I assume they will at some point. It is annoying to have that.
Sorry for the rambling but I thought this info may be useful. I will try to post more info.

  • Can't import MP4 from Panasonic GH4 into Premiere CS6

Can't import 50Mbps MP4 from Panasonic GH4 into Premiere CS6 but I can import it into CC. Any workarounds to get it into CS6?
Another odd thing is that I can import the 50Mbps MOV from the GH4 into CS6 but can't play it using Windows Media Player (for quick review before importing) like I can the MP4. If someone knows how to get the MOV from the GH4 to play with Windows Media Player I'd start using that format instead of the MP4. Odd thing is that the 50Mbps MOV recorded with my GH3 can play in Windows Media Player.

I updated to the latest version CS6 and that solved the MP4 import problem. Still working on the other issue.

  • "mistake" sign when importing AVCHD from camera

    Dears!
Could anyone advice, what is the solution for the issue: with iMovie 09 I'm trying to import AVCHD films from Sony HDR C11. The program sees the films and even can play them (in import window). The import process starts and continues for the while, after that (when the import has been finished) it shows the mistake sign below the clip. During the process iMovie creates all theneded files in events folder and even the final .mov file appeares, but only till th end of the import process - afterwards the .mov disappeares...
I really feel it should be quite an easy soltion (some time ago with iMovie 08 I succeded sevsral times to do that), but I cant find it...
    thanx in advance...

    Jim thanx for attempts))
Well if you can imagine the window that shows the process of importing, - there are clips on the bottom (where you check choosing what to import) and a big screen on the top where you can watch a clip... After you chose (checked) the clip, you push the "import" button and the process starts... Below the importing clip you see the progress line... It runs to the end and then after the import of the clip is finished, a sign "Mistake" (it is in russian.. probably in english it would be written with some other word..) appears below the clip...

  • IMovie freezes when importing AVCHD from Canon HF20

I've recently bought a *Canon HF20 AVCHD* Full HD camcorder, and am having a hard time importing the footage through iMovie '09. Here's exactly what happens:
    1. I connect the USB to the back port of the iMac. The camera indicates a flashing USB symbol and nothing else happens. It doesn't mount the camera drive and iMovie doesn't detect the camera.
    2. OK, so I connect the USB to a powered USB hub and it displays the correct message on the camera, mounts the camera drive and iMovie detects the camera is connected correctly.
    3. I tell iMovie to import the footage. After a while, the estimated time left begins to increase up to hours long, and the progress bar eventually stops, and iMovie freezes, whith the colored spinning wheel as the cursor.
Each time I try to import the footage, iMovie freezes at different points.
Does anyone else have this problem importing AVCHD footage into iMovie '09 ?
    Thanks in advance,
    João Faraco

Well, judging from the deafening response, posting this question here is pretty useless.

  • How to import AVCHD from Sony A7S to Premiere Pro CC 2014 on Windows 7

Hi, I'm a comparative newbie who just needs to edit some training videos shot on Sony A7S.
The adobe help documents suggest that PP CC 2014 can import .MTS files in AVCHD 25p format, but however I approach this it seems to come back with 'unsupported file' error.
I've tried importing direct from camera over wifi, downloading files to hard drive and then importing from there, downloading entire folders to hard drive and then importing from there... But nothing seems to work.
When I search online I get lots of seeming 'spam' about a variety of converters, is this what I am compelled to do?
I guess I'm getting something really simple wrong, I'd appreciate it if someone kind can tell me the error of my ways!

Thanks Neil, that's a great help.
    Just to clarify...
I'm currently accessing the camera through wifi, so it shows up in my windows explorer 'window' on the left hand side as an icon under 'Computer'.
When I double click that icon, I get a 'storage device' icon in the main window.
The recommended approach would be to drag and drop the entire contents of the storage device onto a folder on my hard drive - is that correctly understood?
Then I should access content through media browser window, NOT 'import' under file?

  • Settings to import video from Panasonic T700 camcorder

    Hello Forum,
this is my first post here but I think I'll post often, mainly asking question at first – and here's my first question:
What are the best settings for importing the footage from Panasonic T700 camcorder into the Final Cut 7?
I would appreciate a detailed answer or a good reference to an existing thread here or to existing documents, if possible.
Thank you very much for your help.
    Dimitri Vorontzov

    Hi Tom,
I was just reading some of your post from earlier threads. You're right, it's TM700. My mistake.
Please let me explain my challenge: I'm on this forum as a translator for a non-English speaking videographer who uses a collection of new camcorders, including Panasonic TM700. I'm relatively familiar with Final Cut Pro but not familiar with TM700. I understand that he's shooting ACHDV files in the 1080p60 format, and he needs to be able to edit that footage using FCP 7 and then output the result on a Blu-Ray disk.
    He asked me to ask here on the Forum, what is the most effective way to get the 1080p footage from Panasonic TM700 to FCP;
He also wants to know if there's a way to create an easy setup for a sequence.
What would be the best codec?
Any other questions I should ask here to understand the topic completely?
Should I make a new thread with the correct title so that other people find it easier to find the information?
    Would appreciate your advice.
    Best regards,
    Dimitri Vorontzov

  • IMovie 8 (7.1) Crashes Importing DV from Panasonic PV-GS80

iMovie 8 (7.1) crashes hard every time after importing about 30sec. of DV from Panasonic PV-GS80 via FireWire. Upon restarting iMovie, the clip is generally OK. The same H/W works every time using iMovie 6.0.4, and this video can be imported to iMovie 8 from iMovie 6 correctly. System is new, Disc Utility reports OK. Any suggestions besides dropping iMovie 8?

    FOUND FIX
I found this fix in another thread post. iMovie 7 appears to be bugged, but you can import movies if you download iMovie6 HD. It's apparently free from apple for iLife 08 users.
Here's the link so you can download it.
    http://supportdownload.apple.com/download.info.apple.com/AppleSupport_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/Mac_OSX/downloads/061-3532.20070807.nq3ER/iMovieHD6.dmg
Hours spent trying all sorts and iMovie HD ... just seems to work. Someone suggested that I use an external HD to improve performance. Just make sure you don't use Fat32 because it bombs when the file size gets to 2GB lol. It's a limitation of the Fat32 format. Since you can't access NTFS directly, you're a bit stuffed if you want to use the external HD with you Mac and PC. Either format it for your mac or your pc.
