Importing AVI movies to Itunes ver 6

How do i import avi movies from my hard drive into Itunes 6.I have tried dragging and dropping into the movies folder but to no avail.do i have to convert them to another format and what programme would I need to do this?

.avi is not one of the few formats that iTunes supports. Use Google, there should be a bunch of programs that convert from .avi to mp4 or other iTunes/iPod compatible formats.

  • Importing .avi files in iTunes

Importing .avi files in iTunes can be done as follows ( this comes from the Quicktime tutorial site) :
Open your .avi file in Quicktime and click Share
When I try this on my iMAC the option for ITunes does not show up on the list. Is someone able to tell me how to achieve this. I have attached a print from what I see in Quicktime when I want to share an . avi file

Convert the file to an itunes compatible format using Handbrake.

  • AVI Movies to iTunes

Well, I just got an awesome movie on my comp but it is in AVI format for Real Player. I read somewhere that iTunes would convert other movie types into ones that can be used on my video iPod. I can't seem to get the .avi movie into iTunes to convert it. I'm going to assume that the movie would have to be in .mov file type for Quicktime for it to work on my iPod. I was just wondering if anyone out there could help me with my problem.
    Thanks!

  • Unable to import mp4 movies to iTunes 9.2 ver

Hi I'm have some trouble importing mp4 movies I've rip with handbrake into iTunes. I have no problem importing music files such as mp3, but it just would not import movies.
I've tried add file to library, drag and drop into iTunes, nothing works and the confusing part is that there are no error messages!
What do I have to do to move my movie files to iTunes so that I can upload to my iPad?
I do not want to upgrade to iTune v10.
    Look forward to your help.

I am able to import a .ts file into Premiere Elements 10, 11, and 12 Windows 7 64 bit.
But, not so, for Premiere Elements 4, 7, 8, and 9.
And, the reason why your .mp4 conversion did not work would be in accord with the fact that you used AVCHD as the video compression, and AVCHD video compression was not supported by Premiere Elements until version 7.
If you do decide to move to version 12, please note that there is a dramatic difference in workspace between 3 and 12. So, go the free tryout of 12 before any purchase.
You could try to convert the .ts to H.264.mp4 and not AVCHD (MPEG4 AVC/H.264).mp4 and see if that works for you.

  • Import Quicktime Movies to iTunes - Lion

I just downloaded some tutorials which are in Quicktime format.  I want to load them onto my iPad and iPhone to watch while I am on the go.  Historically I have had no trouble importing Quicktime files into iTunes through either File>Import or the drag and drop method.
I have tried to add my recently downloaded files to iTunes using both methods and nothing happens.
I am running Lion 10.7.1 and iTunes 10.4.1.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Hi,
I have more or less the same issue. I'm running the 10.4.1 iTunes version on my Mid-2010 17" MBP with Lion installed. So all this stuff is pretty up to date.
Before installing Lion on this machine, I imported a lot of .mov videos/movies into the previous version of iTunes without any problem.
Now I want to import into iTunes some .avi movies from my collection. Those .avi movies have subtitles, but the conversion to .mov is easy through QuickTime 7. (You just have to have your .avi and .srt files into the same folder and with the same name, you chose to "Save as", and the job is done within seconds. You get a "muxed" .mov file with integrated subtitles. Cool.)
The problems begin when I want to import that movie into the iTunes Library, 'cause it's absolutely now way to succeed. Opening the new .mov file through iTunes doesn't work. Same result wishing to go through the "Add to Library" command in iTunes, simply trying to drag-n-drop it into the main iTunes window or even dropping the movie's folder into the Library under the path "users/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Movies".
The nasty thing is that this move looks working fine when the movie is converted through the iSkysoft Video Coverter, but there are some problems: the present version of this app doesn't accept subtitles and the conversion takes far more time then the one through QT7.
But the nastiest thing is that I tried to add the same movie to a 10.1 iTunes version Library, on someone else's Late-2008 15" MBP running Snow Leopard and it just worked perfectly fine !
So, could anyone explain me what's wrong here: the OS ? the iTunes version ?
Thanks so much for any help.

  • Importing AVI, WMV into iTunes (+iPOD 80GB)

In my shared pictures directory (classified by years & dates), I have pictures and AVI files (another directory holds my WMV files which are produced via Adobe Premiere Elements 3 & Movie maker). I didn't find a way to only import AVI files within those shared pictures directory within iTunes (same applies for WMV). I tried to drag&drop AVI files found using Windows XP find files into iTunes and I can't.
What Else Might I try ?

In order to put movie files on your iPod, you will need to convert them so that they are in a format which the iPod can read. The section titled "Other Video Sources" on this page (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301461) explains the options for a solution.

  • Import AVI files to iTunes

I've checked through many forums and the general idea I'm getting is that AVI files cannot be imported into iTunes. I'm told that to get your movies into iTunes and visable to the Apple TV I'm intending on buying, you have to convert them to MP4 files. This causes me a huge problem for me as I have about 800 movies in the AVI format!
Can anyone tell me why Apple does support AVI files? Also, is anyone aware of a way AVI files can be imported to iTunes?

As Niel said, AVI is a container format, and an obsolete one at that. It was developed by Microsoft years ago and even they have abandoned it. So while QuickTime provides some very limited AVI support, iTunes does not and almost certainly never will.
As to conversion, you can try Handbrake or MPEG Streamclip. Those can convert many formats, though by no means all (AVI can use one of any number of codecs, not all of which have ever been ported to Mac).
    Regards.

  • Importing home movies into itunes

i know that you can import home movies from imovie into itunes and then import it onto your ipod, but im not sure on how you do that.

Go to the "FIle" menu, select "Export", and select the iPod icon. Only works in iMovie 6.0 (iLife '06).

  • Importing avi movies from my Canon camera makes iPhone crash

Every time when i make some movies with my Canon camera (Powershot S2 IS) and I want to import them, together will all my pics on my camera, into iPhoto it makes iPhot crash from the point where it is importing the first AVI movie it comes across.
Now I've successfully imported the movies onto my harddrive now using the Image Capture program, but still when I want to import the movies from my harddrive into iPhoto, or even when i want to play them in Quicktime, it makes iPhoto crash, and also Quicktime crashes when i'm trying to view the movie in there.
can somebody point me to an alternative solution or tell me what's wrong and what i need to fix in order to fix it?

Thanks. I'd love to install that one, but i've heard some stories that this piece of software does quite some harm to some things. I dont remember where i read that or what harm it would do. but i'm sure i've heard it someone say.
can you confirm this? or do you still very much recommend me to install this?

  • How to import .avi movies to ipad

hey can anyone please tell me how to omport .avi movies to ipad

AVI is a file container, not a codec type.
This is the only AVI type supported: Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
For all other AVI's containing other codecs, you will have to download a third party player-anyplayerhd, avplayerhd, cinexplayer, etc.
    Look in the app store.

  • Imported mpeg4 movie but ITunes renamed the file

    Hi
I have converted some DVD's to MPEG4 format and imported them into ITunes but after the import the file name is changed (eg to 33455_2) and ITunes won't let me rename them to the correct movie name. Any idea why this is happening? I am using Magic Movie Converter to convert files from avi to mpeg4.
The movies play fine in Itunes and on my IPOD it's just frustrating not knowing what movie is what until you start to watch them.
    Hopefully someone can help.
    Thanks
    Gary

I have just noticed that in windows the file type for the movies that renamed themsleves is MPEG-4 Video File whereas the ones that are named correct are MPEG-4 Movie. Is this because fo the way I have converted them?

  • I'm using Windows 8.  I have 2 folders in my videos library - movies and personal videos.  When I try to import a movie into iTunes, it puts it in the Home Video section and if I import a personal video, it puts it into the home video section.  what up?

Im using Win8.  I originally had all my ripped movies in a movie folder listed in the videos library.  This imported into iTunes movies with no issue.  I later added a second folder t my library - personal videos where i put all my home videos.  I was able to import this into iTunes and it showed up in "Home Movies" - very cool and exactly what I wanted.  Now, if I add a new ripped movie and put it in my movie librairy and try to import it into iTunes, it places it in Home Movies.  And if I put a new personal video, it will also import into iTunes under 'Home Video?.  What is going on here??  Any help would be greatly appreciated - it seems like this is a bug in iTunes 11.

I thank you for the response.  Apple does some assinine things sometimes and this is one of them.  Ask the planet the difference between a movie and a home video and with the exception of Apple, you'd get 100% consenus on the what difference is.  A home video is something that I shoot, like my kids birthday party.  A movie is something I urchased either via download or a DVD that I ripped.  Unbelievable!   The fact that Apple has chosen not to distinguish based upon which folder I tell it is Movies and which folder is Home Videos is really hard to fathom - sounds like something Windows would do. I find it funny that in my iTunes movies sub-section of the movies section, the movie icons have a cloud icon in upper right corner to distinguish it as bought from Apple iTunes versus no cloud icon for movies that I have ripped - so the distintion was already made and clearly visible.  Now - everything just defaults to "home videos" if I try to import a new ripped DVD - why even bother to have this distinction on the iTunes bar?  WOW!
As for your direction, I do not understand what you are telling me - what Media Kind and what Options tab are you referring to?  I see no Options tab in iTunes.  Right licking on the movie icon does not yield media kind or options as well.  Gping to the source file does not yield these options either.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • How can I import .avi file into iTunes?

I have a bunch of videos, that I can not live with out. They are al in .AVI form. How can I get these into iTunes for watching? Do I need to use Quicktime Pro?

You use MPEG Streamclip to convert them to MPEG-4 and import those. This may require Perian or not be possible.
