Importing Avid Project into Premiere Pro CC 2014?
Hi all,
I'm a director editing a feature film with an editor.
My editor is editing via Avid Media Composer version 7. I also have Avid 8 on my computer. Long story short, I'm not avid proficient and would love to import sequences, bins of synced footage, etc. into Adobe Premiere CC 2014. I'm not looking for something super accurate. Transitions, effects, etc. Not a big deal. Mostly just trying to get bins of these synced dailies into a program that I know how to edit in. (adobe premiere!)

I don't believe that there is a way to translate bins, but you can have your editor string together a bin of synced dailies into a timeline, export an aaf and then import that to PPro.
This has worked for me with some success during testing, although I think it may depend on versions of PPro / not work so well if you are using AMA in avid.

An editor digitized 16 tapes on Avid Media Composer and we need to work this project on Premiere Pro 5.5. I have tried to import MXF files and it works but without audio.
My questions are:
Is it safe to import (drag/drop)? Will i have some issues in the futur if the project is big?? or during the export??
How can i import the audio files??

And really thanks Adobe!The trouble is that Avid creates OPAtom style MXF files (ie the video & audio essences are stored in separate MXF files, as opposed to OP1a (such as typical Sony XDCAMHD files)). So if you import each file, you could get the constituent pieces (ie each audio/video essence as a separate clip), but then you'd be stuck trying to group the clips together manually.
You *might* be able to get the files to import correctly if you export an AAF from Avid & bring that in - with any luck, the individual media files should be correctly referenced in the clip objects. Give that a try...

How to bring an Avid project into Premiere Pro CS3?
My client has an old Avid project that needs to be re-edited. I'm using Premiere Pro CS3. Can easily purchase any necessary conversion software (NOT going to buy Media Composer :P). Is there any way to 'easily' import it?
I'm familiar with the Automatic Duck software suite, but they don't seem to have an option for conversion to PPro. What about converting from Avid to After Effects, and then somehow importing the After Effects into PPro?
I'm extremely new to EDLs and very hesitant to use them :). Any advice?I've had some degree of success going from Avid to PPro through the use of AAF (Advanced Authoring Format). If the project is really complex, the transfer may not work that well, but I was surprised to see just how much transferred cleanly. Check the Avid documentation for exporting a project as an AAF, and the PPro documentation for importing.
One thing to note is that you will have to recapture the media from the original source tapes, as PPro will not work with media files created during capture on an Avid system. -
Importing .psd into Premiere Pro CC 2014
I am trying to import a Photoshop file (.psd) into Premiere Pro CC 2014. I've watched all these tutorials and they make it look so easy using Import > Adobe Photoshop file and then it appears in the source monitor--it seems to be the same as well on their tutorials. However, my .psd file which needs to have white font and does in Photoshop comes up as different color (black) and is much smaller. I am doing this in a 4K sequence, I understand the dimension aspect, but when I try to import I set as Single Layers and it doesn't matter--black font again. Is there something I am doing wrong in PS or PP or both? I would really appreciate your feedback because I'm in a rut and nothing seems to work. The Photoshop file is one that was preloaded for this band but it just does not import correctly. Any other options for getting a Photoshop file into Premiere Pro CC 2014 or AE. I also tried this in CS6 and was hoping to just copy and paste into CC 2014. I can't believe it is this hard. I must be doing something wrong especially since everyone else seems to do it so easy. Avid DNxHD into Premiere Pro CS5.5?
Howdy. New to Premiere Pro and trying the demo. Unfortunately I'm having a issues right off the bat.
I'm trying to import Avid DNxHD 36 media from Media Composer 5.5. But I get some issue saying that the codec isn't supported. Am I wrong that DNxHD is supposed to be native in Premiere Pro CS5+?
Thanks!I wouldn't be surprised if REDCineX was using FFmpeg under the hood for that! Definitely use FFmbc for such things, however--it's got more functionality built-in for professional media. It's MXF support is waaay better than FFmpeg's.
BTW: The Premiere Pro docs are rather tight-lipped and inconclusive about the whole matter...

Can't import prores files into Premiere Pro CC or SpeedGrade CC
Can't import prores files into Premiere Pro CC or SpeedGrade CC. But I can into After Effects CC.
I also can't export to DNxHD files to an MXF file either.
I do have latest Quicktime Pro installed and I also have Avid Media Composer and the other pieces of the Avid package.
Conflict?I only have one account on the computer and it has Administrator priveleges. What I am doing to make it work is opening the application using the "Run as Administrator" command (e.g., right click application shortcut on desktop, choose "Run as Administrator"). I am not a Windows guru but I would guess there is something different between opening an Application with a user that has Administrator priveleges and opening an Application choosing "Run as Administrator". Also, your answer still does not address the fact that I can't use my jog wheel.
Anyone else have some ideas? -
Importing IMX50 footage into Premiere Pro CS5.5

I've been trying to import a Final Cut 6 project into Premiere Pro CS 5.5 without any success. The footage is originally imx 50 codec. I do an xml import and I get a error message saying it cant read the .mov codec. It can see the sequence but can't associate any of the footage to it. I also tried transcoding the FCP sequnce to prores and then doing an xml export but with exactly the same result! Can anybody help?Hi Colin,

After Effects project into Premiere Pro
I am having trouble importing my After Effects project into Premiere. It isn't playing once I bring it in to my premiere.
What versions of After Effects and Premiere Pro? What operating system? What kinds of source footage?
What exactly are you doing? What menu commands are you choosing, and what things are you clicking, and in what order?

MOV is a wrapper... what is inside the wrapper?

i have never installed quicktime proYour question simply cannot be answered definitively for a given clip because it's the codec that matters, not the wrapper/file extension.
As of one of the 7.x releases, Premiere implemented native support for decoding some codecs within a QuickTime file. But that native support does not extend to the entire universe of codecs that can be stuffed into the wrapper.
So you can either report the codec or simply install QT and see if that enables PPro to import the clip. -
Error Importing Premiere Elements project into Premiere Pro CS5
Hi,
I am working on a multi-part video project that I started in Premiere Elements 8. I put in hours upon hours of editing on the first part and I found that the more I edited, the more often the program would crash (infuriating!). So I started using Premiere Pro CS5 to produce the second part, resolving to come back to the first part later. Well, I've come back around to needing this first part done, and it is just undoable in Elements (crashes every 20 seconds!). I'd like to import that project into CS5 if possible. The help documentation says this should be perfectly possible... but I'm having no luck.
When I attempt to open my Premiere Elements project in Premiere Pro, it tells me the project must be converted from Elements .prel to Pro .prproj, and I click through the prompts as normal. But then as soon as it starts trying to open the project, I get this:
"The Project could not be loaded. It may be damaged or contain outdated elements."
I downloaded the Premiere Elements 9 trial to see if it would be less crashy (and it is), but I'd really prefer to have all my video in one program, and CS5 does the best job (and has most of my hours invested). Elements 9 opens the "damaged" project just fine and I can edit and export normally, so why can't CS5?
Am I stuck recreating the project from the ground up in CS5?In very general terms, a contemporary PrE Project (PREL), will Open in PrPro, with the steps that you outlined.
Now, there are all sorts of considerations, for aspects that will not likely work:
Instant Movie/Themes, as PrPro cannot read those
Some Effects that PrPro does not have, like the NewBlue FX
Some Transitions that PrPro does not have
Some Title animation Presets, that PrPro does not have
Do you have any of the above in your PrE Project? There are probably other circumstances, but those are all that come immediately to my mind.
The simpler the PrE Project, the greater the likelyhood that it will Convert to a PrPro PRPROJ file.
PrE 8 and PrPro CS5 should be close enough to work, again in those general terms. I can Open simple PrE 4.0 Projects in PrPro 2.0, but cannot Open PrE 7, 8 or 9 Projects in PrPro 2.0.

I'm trying to import a previous premiere pro sequence into premiere pro and suddenly a few sections are 'media offline' (it has always worked up until now). I would be able to relink the clips but the offending ones aren't showing up in the project's clip bin. To make things worse I can't drag and drop the corresponding clips from my finder into the clips bin and then 'replace clip with' in the timeline, as the clips in the project have been renamed, and are synced up to audio (this is a 90 minute feature film).
Can anyone help??!!Right click on the offline clips and select Reveal in Project. This will call up the bin they're in, where you'll be able to relink.

Import mpg video into Premiere Pro CS6
When I try to import video taken with a Sony Handicam DCR SX63 I get a "There was an error decompressing audio or video". In searching this issue I find many people with the same issue but never a resolution. Is there one? That a novice could implement??
MPG format is clearly stated to be compatible. Copied directly from camera to computer via USB it plays just fine. Converting it to a different format (MP4) with DVDVideoSoft Free Studio I can import it into Premiere Pro and do my splicing / editing.
But.. my end result is not as clear (and files are much larger) so feel if I could use the original and stay in that format.. my results would be much better.
My project is very simple.. combine some clips, remove some bad footage and burn to a DVD.. any advice on alternate formats would be appreciated as well.

Your last link deals with taking files off a SD card.. this is not my case but there is mention of renaming files creating a problem. So.. I re-download all my video from my camera using Windows Explore and copied the entire folder and root (Videos\MP_ROOT\101PNV01). My previous download using Windows Media.. did in fact rename the files. However I get the same error when trying to import with Premiere Pro.
In my previous searches for a solution I was pointed to your mediainfo applet.. running that on any of the newly downloaded video gives me this report: Open to more suggestions..

Importing AE file into Premiere Pro
I am having trouble importing my After Effects .mov file into Premiere Pro. When I lay it in the time line, the images and text look all granulated. Does this have something to do with my render settings?
To elaborate on Andrew's post: Premiere will always assume all footages have the same specs as the project settings. For DV/ HDV projects this means it will think they are interlaced with lower fields. if you didn't render them with these settings, you will have to tell this Premiere by manually setting the footage interpretation just as you would in AE. Also check your viewer settings. Maybe they are just set to draft quality or auto-adjust themselves because you scaled them oddly and thus the clips are presented at crooked scaling rates. Another potential cause for this could be a problem with your graphics card, so if you cannot resolve the matter by the other methods, disable hardware accelerated playback in the viewer's options (the little arrow in the top right corner).
