Importing Between Projects Takes FOREVERRRR

All I'm doing is copying a 3-minute clip from one project to another via the copy/paste options. It's been about 15 minutes and all I see is a dialog box that says Importing Files...Preparing. Trying to cancel the import or Force Quit iMovie has no effect. I guess this is the equivalent of a system hang.
Well, just finished import. It took about 20 minutes for a 3 minute cilp. Why? This makes no sense. iMovie 3 could import a 9-minute clip from another iMovie project in under 3 minutes. Upgrade my ***.

Note that Copying and Pasting clips from one project to another in iMovie 6 is a very different task than importing a file into iMovie 3. (For the sake of those who never used it, iMovie 3 didn't allow Copying and Pasting clips between projects. We had to import the clip's Media file stored in the Media folder of Project A to Project B.)
Because of the non-destructive editing features of iMovie 6, iMovie 6 copies the entire Media file of the clip, not just the clip itself. So if a 5-second clip that's part of a 3 minute file is Copied from Project A and Pasted into Project B, the entire file is copied to Project B. That's so the pasted clip inherits all the non-destructive editing features it had in Project A. (In Project B, you can restore the 5-second clip to 3 minutes it was in Project A.)
So if the 3 minute clip you Copied and Pasted was from a 30 minute file, the entire file was copied with it and it may take some time.
Importing a file is actually lots faster in iMovie 6 than iMovie 3. I just tested importing a 3 minute Media file from one iMovie 3 project to another. It took 56 seconds. In iMovie 6, importing the same file took just 15 seconds.
The difference may be that iMovie 6 is smart enough to recognize the file is a DV file, so instead of converting it to DV, it just duplicates the file, which is a lot faster.

  • Library project errors and imports of projects using them

So this is something that I have put up with in FB for a long time now, but I decided to try doing some research today to see if there is a workaround as it is very annoying. Unfortunately I couldn't find anything.
I attempted to file a bug/feature request, but it turns out that for some unknown reason FB is the only Adobe application that gives a link to another url (http://bugs.adobe.com/flex/) and, today at least, the link is dead so I have to post here instead.
The problem is with library projects (which I love by the way). I use them a great deal and for more than just creating standalone APIs. As do many others, I like to have the core of many of my cross-platform projects in a library so that I can create other ‘harness’ projects for different runtimes and use the same bulk code. This way I can just write code in each master project that is particular to that runtime be it air or web or whatever - this is a great bit of functionality that I would really miss were it not there.
As a result of this workflow however, I am often working in the library project directly in order to update all versions of a project. The problem arises when there is an error in the library project. When this happens, all the projects reading from the library lose all linkages to the swc and as a result the problem tab fills up with hundreds of problems that don’t exist, because as far as those projects are now concerned the swc no longer exists.
Now I understand why this happens but surely FB could be made to understand what is going on and override (what I assume is) the compiler’s behaviour, and just not display these errors.
This whole thing is exacerbated by (and may not even be that big a problem where it not for) the fact that I am forced to turn off 'build automatically' due to the 4.7 crash bug that has been reported here numerous times. Because of this I tend to write large chunks of code between each compile so I don't instantly know what has broken.
Please save the feature that I enjoy so much by either getting FB to deal with the situation better or by fixing the crash bug so I can use ‘build automatically’ again… or god forbid… fix both!! I can dream. J
If anyone has any good tips regarding this please let me know.
    Many thanks,
    James

Can I then delete the project from the hard drive (as it's now in the library?) or will that delete the whole thing forever?
That depends on how you did import the projects.  If your images are referenced they might still be stored in the previous projects, but if your library is managed, then it will be save to delete the projects you already imported.

  • Can you Share Scenes between projects?

Can you Share Scenes between projects?
I would like to take already created scenes and share them

Scenes are just for authoring convenience, they basically
blank frames giving an end to one
and beginning to another timeline so you can't actually
define scene like you could a movie clip.
What you can do however is to Copy frames by unlocking all
the layers, highlighting all the frames
and CTRL ALT C than open new file and paste the frames CTRL
    ALT V
That's the only way to share the scene.

  • Can't Import HTMLHelp Project using Robohelp HTML RH8

We have an HTMLHelp project that contains over 1000 HTML pages that are grouped into subfolders under the main project folder. Currently, we use the HTML Workshop to create/maintain the project files and generate the master chm.  The master chm also includes baby chms that are generated using DocX or a home-grown program. Going forward, we want to start using a Help authoring tool . We downloaded a trial version of RH8.  We clicked the Import option to import the project and received the following error: "The parameter is incorrect".  I checked the forum and saw that other people also received this error message but for different reasons. Can you help us move forward so that we can evaluate RH8?  Thanks.

    Welcome to the forum.
Sorry, your post fell into the "mm, take a look at the weekend" category.
I've not seen the problem you report in connection with importing a project but it's not a RoboHelp project you are importing but you are using that option.
You have CHMs so try Reverse Engineering them. See that topic on my site. Try Method 2 first.
There is also a topic on Merging Help and the RH8 version includes merging CHMs.

  • Importing existing projects

I am trying to import some projects that I have on my work
machine in to my home machine. I am just getting started with Flex
builder but am having a bit of trouble understanding how it handles
projects...there is no apparent way to *completely* close one
project and open another one, so you are working on only one at a
time. Rather, it appears that you import all projects into the same
workspace, and switch between them in the Navigator (whether these
projects are related to one another or not). Is this correct?
One problem I had though, is that I cannot seem to import all
my projects. I created a directory on my work machine called
FlexProjects, and inside are two project directories, say Test and
Keyboard. I took this entire directory home with me and saved to a
local drive. Then, I used the Switch Workspace command to switch to
FlexProjects. Then, I said Import ->existing projects and
navigated to the FlexProjects folder. From here, it listed both
Test and Keyboard. It will then import Test, but when importing
    Keyboard I get this message:
    Invalid project description:
    Reason:
    Invalid project description
    and the details say:
    E:\projects\FlexProjects\Keyboard overlaps the workspace
    location E:\projects\FlexProjects
I don't understand this - I did a compare of the Test and
Keyboard project paths and there was no obvious difference (like an
incorrect path) that would explain why Test will import but
    Keyboard won't.
It is critical that I be able to port Flex projects between
home and work .. can someone help me fix this?
    Thanks!

That's what I figured.   I'll just have to work through the background and keep as is.  thanks!

  • Moving clips between projects, without rendering them

Is this possible? I work on a Macbook Pro, using CS4 production premium. How can I move clips between projects in PP CS4?
I KNOW there's a way. Just can't figure it out.
    Thanks!

The easiest, IMO, is to Open your source Project and remove everything that will not be needed. Do a Save_As. Import that Save_As Project into your new one. Be sure to then twirl open the Bins, and Dbl-click on the Save_As Project's Timeline.
    Hunt
PS I also go to Project and choose Delete Unused (or similar syntax) to clean things up for the Save_As.

  • Import in LR6 take appr. 70% longer thain LR 5.71

    Hi all
the first time I imported i big pile of photos in LR6 , i felt that it did
take a lot longer to import than in LR 5.71, so I set up a small test case:
50 RAW images from Canon 5d2 and 5d3, Preferences and Catalog settings are the
same for LR5 and LR6. The new values in LR6 are set up to match the ones in LR5
(ex. Priview size changed from Auto 1920 to 2048 )
No address lookup , no face detection , nothing selected in File Handling nor
    'Apply during Import'
    The results are:
    Import Standard Previews:   LR5 0m 35s   -  LR6 1m 00s
    Import 1:1  Previews:   LR5 1m 50s   -  LR6 3m 24s
LR 5.71 and 6 are installed on the same machine:
      i7-4790K , 16GB RAM
LR 5 and 6 are installed on SSDs , so are catalog/cache/temp files
Windows 7 , no crapware running in the background, machine pretty clean
used primarily for photo and video editing
Windows and GPU card at higest level
Plenty of free RAM according to Resource Monitor
GPU , supported in LR6 , nothing to brag about , but should not be an issue since
Import does not use GPU (according to Adobe)
I have tried the following :
    Disabled GPU
    Stopped antivirus and firewall
The catalog wad deleted /recreated after each test, cache purged.
Even rebooted from time to time.
    Suggestions are wellcome

Before I retire for the rest of the night I should mention a few more things.
The entire computer was re-setup clean. Full erase and install of OS X 10.4.10 and clean install of FCS2.
I did use the Render Manager to erase all render files and tried again... multiple times.
I restarted the G5 each time and tried rendering with no other apps running.
    I've repaired permissions.
At least one time I came back to the computer and FCP was just closed with no crash or warning messages. Every other time I get a message allowing me to send a report to Apple. I've sent the report only once since the crash report is the same (I compared them).
I tried re-importing the project from the original project file.
Originally, before I was told by others to answer "no" to the field question on import, I answered "yes" to that question and was able to render every sequence in the project without any issues. After being told to answer "no" I deleted the project and render files, reimported the project, and am now trying to render again.
If you're wondering why I would want to work on the project some more I'm thinking of doing the color correction all over again using Color so I can see if I get better results than with Magic Bullet Editors Look Suit or Colorista. This required me to convert the 5.1.4 project to 6.0.1. I know it's not recommended, but I want to give it a shot anyways to see if I can improve the project.
That's all I have right now. If you need any other specific info let me know. I really appreciate the help anyone is able to provide. Thanks!

  • Error importing old project into Premiere Elements 11

Trying to import old project backup - that I made a couple of years ago.  When importing the Project file, I get the error
"The selected file cannot be linked because it's type (video) does not match the original files type (audio and video)."
I try and select the file, but it then gives the error "The selected file cannot be linked because its type (audio and video) does not match the original file's type (video).
If I skip the ones that give me the error, I get an incomplete edit - with lots of bits missing.
HELP!!!  I need to sort this asap......for a client.
    Thanks

    filippinno
Here is my plan, either a start to better or a dud. We are going to start small to get a foothold in this.
My major puzzlement is you telling me that you are replacing video with video and getting the message
The selected file cannot be linked because its type (audio and video) does not match the original file's type (video)
.The only time I have ever seen that message is when someone is trying to replace still with video or video with still.
At this moment, where are the source media that went into the original Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 project? Let us say, all in Documents in a folder named Special - all have their original names. Given that you are 100% that they are the ones that went into this project...the type (video or still) and file name and file extension.
I am not sure if it matters for this test whether or not you are using Premiere Elements 11 or 9.0/9.0.1, I just want to find out what is going on with your source media.
    (a) Open the project using Skip All if you are hit with a bunch of "Where is....?" messages which I assume you will be.
    (b) Go to the Timeline, pick a file with the colorful Media Offline display, write down the file name from its title band.
Right click that file on the Timeline and select Find in Media.
From Organize Media, delete the Media Offline thumbnail that was pointed out to you clicking Reveal in Media.
Go back to the Timeline and this same file, right click it and this time select Reveal in Project. That should take you to Project. Delete the file there that Reveal in Project points you to. That will also delete is counterpart on the Timeline. All traces of that particular Media Offline file are now gone in the project.
In that project, go to Get Media/Files and Folders and browse to and select the original file (with the exact same file name and kind that you just deleted from the project) that you have saved back in that Special Folder in Documents.
Drag that file from Organize Media or Project to the Timeline in the space made available by your deletion of it as an Media Offline thumbnail.
Does that work to replace that particular file. Is it the file that you had there originally? Keep in mind that we are identifying this file by name in each step and need a match of file name from start to end.
If this works for one, then we can plan around this basic finding. And, if this works we may revert back to Replace Footage. But, let us see what happens here first.
What is your estimate of how many of these Media Offline displays are there to be dealt with? How many of the media are in place on that Timeline and are no problem?
    Looking forward to the results.
    Thanks.

  • Lose model when importing a project

    Hi
I tried for the first time to import a project and I noticed that ODI had lost all links with models for target datastores :
To be more specific, when I open an interface, its status is "in error" and the target datastore appears with a red cross. When I click on the "properties" icon, I can see that my datastore is not linked to a model.
In addition, when I ask for usage of the datastore in the "model" tab, I can verify that it is not used.
NB : the project was first created in this repository (that I will call "repository A"), then exported to another (repository B). It was then deleted from repository A and imported from repository B.
The model was neither deleted nor imported.
Is there a way to save the links between project and model while importing ?

Cezar - I have the exact situation that this user describes. I checked the i_mod versus the version tab/internal id of the model and they are the same. Thoughts on the best next steps?
    To recap:
    1) I exported from my DEV environment both my model and project folder
    2) imported into my TEST (different server, etc) first model, then project folder
    3) no issues on import of model or project folder
    4) when I open an interface, it's in 'error' status and I cannot view data with right click on data stores (within interface) (data stores have the little red X on the top left corner)
    5) I CAN view data when I right click on the table in the MODEL tab.
When I try to view data for my data stores in the diagram of my interface, I receive this error: Cannot display data: Datastores are not on the same data server
or one of the tables is not accessible on the data server
    Thoughts???
    Many Thanks,
    Dan

  • Premiere Pro CC crashes when I import CS6 project files

I recently upgraded to CC, but every time I try to import my project file from Premiere Pro CS6 into Premiere Pro CC it crashes, or stops working if you like.
This is very irritating as I wanted to make use of the SpeedGrade workflow in the CC packaged between Premiere Pro CC.
My project file is no longer than 1 minute, however is does contain After Effects CS6 compositions, could this possible cause the crash? I have tried to import without these but it still stops working for some reasons.
Also I have no idea where to find the error log for crashes on Adobe software.

I have experienced similar crashes and timeline playback failure when importing a CS6 project into CC or CC 2014. I had to rebuild two projects by hand before I realized it was a bug in CC converting the CS6 project files to CC project files. I don't think this has been addressed yet, but I have had better luck starting projects from scratch in CC, not cross-converting a CS6 project. Although I'm still experiencing issues with multicam projects in CC 2014.
Curious to hear others chime in on this.

  • Premiere Pro CC project takes 1 hour to open !

    Hi everybody,
After a Premiere Pro CC 7.1 crash, I tried to reopen my last project and the loading of this project took 1 hour to reopen normally. The yellow loading progression bar is freezing approximatively at 30 % of full load. 1 hour later, my project is open without any problems. If i save the project again, quit Premiere and reopen my project, it loads in a few seconds...
I tried many things before waiting the hour :
Kill Premiere during the load, reopen a backup of my project : same problem > load is very long and seems to be frozen
Shutdown computer and restart then reload the project : same problem > load is very long and seems to be frozen
Open the crashed project in another computer (Mac) without the media attached : same problem > load is very long and seems to be frozen
Delete all the media cache folder and empy trash.
This happend several times on a big project (lots of media, multi cameras) usually after many CTRL-Z action that are (I think...) too fast.
My footage are clean and on a Raid 0 disk
It's not really dramatic but when it happens when a director is arround me, and we spend 1 hour to wait for a simple project load... that's really not cool :-/
    Anyone got an idea ?
My configuration : Windows 8.1, Premiere Pro CC 7.1, 32 GB Ram, Bi Intel Xeon E5-2630 2.3 GHz
    Thanks !
    noar
PS : I happened for the first time a few days ago. I've posted this thread : http://forums.adobe.com/message/5838103#5838103
Since, it happend 3 times in two days...

Please tell us, what type of footage you are using ?
Quicktime H264 from Canon 5D Mark III, few Go Pro clips (5 ou 6 in 2 hours) and some AVCHD clips (drone shots)
What are the effects you have applied ?
None except size and position of one camera to make a pip and see my both cam during my prework
what is the duration of the project ?
1 "long" timeline with a 2 hours length
Are you using any third party plugins e.g. Magic bullets ?
    no
    Any 3rd party hardware e.g. blackmagic ?
no. Only one graphic card (Geforce 680, 4 GB) with 3 displays attached
You can try one thing, try to import whole project in After Effects, then export that as as new premiere pro project..
When I import the project in After Effects, same thing : the load is very long ! ...
one more thing you can try, open the project inthe premiere pro and export as FCP XML.
Now open a new premiere pro blank project, import FCP xml file in the premiere pro.
I can't do that when it bugs because to export as FCP XML, I have to load the original project... and that's the problem ! I tried to unzip the PRPROJ file (that's a Gzip file...) and parse de XML in it with and xml validator. Everything seems to be ok in my project. So I think the problem comes from the medias or the database ? ... But that's completely weird that when I try to open it on another computer (without the medias, with another database) I've got the exact same problem... So It's really the project that is corrupted.
Next time it will bug (sure it will...) this is what I'll do :
Copy my crashed project on desktop and keep it. After 1 hour of opening, I'll save the project with a new name and compare de 2 file size. Just to confirm that my crashed project and my good project are different. If they have the same size, maybe It's more Premiere than the project itself. If they are different, I'll compare them to see what changed between the crashed and the good one.
Writing in this forum I'm thinking about a new lead : Since PRPRO CC, the prproj files are gzip files (that's why the file size are so small compared to old version). So when PRPRO crash, maybe it corrupt the gzip compression of the project ? That's weird because a software like winrar can unzip the crashed project a reveal the xml file in it. So I'll try to extract the XML file in the crashed project and re-gzip it and rename it .prproj ?
Feel free to write some ideas or tests that could help me to understand this bug and how to resolve or quickly repair the damaged caused...
Hope these will work for you , crossing my fingers
Hope to. 3 crash with the director behind me that's not really cool when you're a freelance with your own machine...
THANKS EVERYBODY FOR YOUR PRECIOUS HELP AND THE TIME YOU SPEND TO READ MY PROBLEMS !!

  • Problem with importing premiere project into after effects

Hi. When I import premiere project into after effects CS4 the files I speed up 2x (for example) look likes on the snapshot below, and they are not in the correct places.
    what can I do?

Then don't speed them up... This is "as designed". AE and Premiere are not compatible in their tiem-remapping/ time-stretching, so tehre is no way to move between them without losing that info.

  • Importing BC4J project results in strange behaviours.

I found a strange behaviour in compiling BC4J projects wich imports another BC4J project.
Some of theese projects, when compiled, copy the xml/class tree of the imported project onto their directories some other don't.
The first behaviour is obvioulsy harmfull because of the number of copies it generates.
I didn't find any relevant difference between project wich behaves differently.

  • Rendering issues with imported Motion project in FCP

I have various titles for a DVD prepared in Motion that are imported as project files into Final Cut Pro.
When playing back the rendered timeline in FCP to a TV, the animation on these titles (scaling and moving of text and untextured, 100% opaque rectangles) looks fine. When I render the timeline to a QuickTime (DV PAL) they still look fine on a monitor, though obviously not a great test on a progressive display.
After using Compressor (and a suitable preset for PAL content) and burning to a disc from DVD Studio Pro, the animation is jumpy. Some elements in the project with a Fade In/Fade Out behaviour with Fade Out duration set to 0 suddenly disappear for a short period (looks like one frame) - these objects end on the timeline in the same frame that their Fade In/Fade Out behaviour also ends.
If I render the Motion project to a QuickTime file with transparency and overlay that in FCP then follow the same route through Compressor and DVD Studio Pro everything looks as I expected... smooth motion and no disappearing elements.
Any ideas? Should I just keep rendering Motion projects out to separate files to overlay in FCP? That seems a bit of a waste of the integration between FCP and Motion.

    This gives me pause: AEManager::scanForPluginsInDirectory(PCString) + 1011
I'd check for any third party plugins...

    Hi
Why are you trying to import BPM zip file are you trying to configure the out of the box workflows?
They are something that need to be deployed from the process admin on BPM.
There would be the .exp file you would need as its BPM 10g that you would need to use.
