Importing calendar data from another [dead] computer

My G5 recently died on me, and I'm currently using an older computer (eMac) that's still running 10.4. But I still have access to my G5's hard drive through a FireWire connection. What I'm trying to find a way to do is to reload all my G5 iCal data into my eMac's iCal app. Obviously, I didn't know my computer was going to die on me, so I didn't export an iCal file beforehand. So, assuming all my old calendar data is still on my G5 hard drive, what files will I need to copy over to my eMac? And will there be any complications bringing iCal info from 10.5 over to 10.4?

Trying to retrieve data from a dead computer.

The computer is a 1.25Ghz PowerBook G4 (about 5 years old) running 10.3.9.
The computer crashed and will not start. It reaches the apple logo with the rotating meter, but will then sit there pretty much as long as I'm willing to wait (more than an hour at least).
The last time this happened I used disk utility on the restore disk to repair the permissions, which solved the problem. However, this time it hasn't. The permissions were repaired successfully, but the computer still will not start. I then tried running the disk verify and found several errors, however, when running the disk repair, it immediately hits an error and stops. Now it won't even verify the disk without getting an error.
Next I tried just reinstalling the system software (without erasing the disk). It completes the disk verify, but then errors right at the start of the install.
I would be willing to just erase the disk, but my wife has pics of our daughter on the computer that haven't been backed up yet and she doesn't want to lose them.
I have tried using the Target Disk option, but the PowerBook's HD took about 5 minutes to mount and then I was not able to read anything from it. The computer I connected to just sat there "thinking" for about 15 minutes. I'm guessing the PowerBook crashed because the Firewire symbol stopped floating on the screen as soon the disk mounted. I tried it twice with the same result.
I have also tried installing the system software to both USB 2.0 and Firewire 400 external hard drives and the installer tells me it cannot install to that drive.
The computer does suffer from a fried RAM slot (occured about 2.5 years ago and it has never been as stable since) and a fried logic board fan.
Anyhow, then question is, is there anything else I can try? Is the Hard Drive fried? Can the data be retrieved without advanced super computers and a multi-million dollar budget?

I suspect the the internal HDD of your PowerBook G4 has died. The average life of these drives is 3 to 5 years, so you got about as much from it as you could reasonably expect. A new HDD should revive the computer.
As to the files you are trying to retrieve, if you plan to replace the HDD, you can place it in an external firewire enclosure after it has been removed and connect it to a working computer, download a demo version of DataRescue II, mentioned by Limnos, and see if any of the files you want to rescue are visible. If you see them you will have to purchase the license to be able to complete the process. Dr. Smoke's FAQ Data Recovery is a good resource for this procedure.

Unable to import cell data from another sheet in Numbers

Hi. I have a column of cells that I need to import the values of (copy) from one SHEET to another (not a table within same sheet etc).
Recently moved to Numbers from buggy GoogleDocs/Drive. Within that i could =importrange and reference the cells in the other sheets tables.
Failing this, is it possible to allow my customers to view one table within my worksheet, i.e. only have one table viewable and the others not etc?

Hi Si,
There are many ways of doing this in Numbers. If you will be sorting your column the function INDEX() could work for you. If you will not be sorting try this:
Click where you want your first cell to move to. Type "="
Navigate to your other sheet and click in the first cell you want to move.
Hit return.
your value should show in your new sheet.
Fill your newly made formula down the rest of the column.

Is it possible to transfer data from a dead macbook pro to a new user account on another macbook pro?

I have killed my 2 months old mbp (water). I have an older mbp (2 years old) that I wish to transfer all data from my dead mbp to. I was hoping that I simply could create a new user on my old mbp and transfer all data to this account using the migration assistant and thereby re-create my dead mbp. Especially I wish to acces my contacts, mail settings and calendar, but would of course prefer to acces all files. I have a thing (do not know the right term) that can read the HD on the dead computer. It is now connected to my mbp, and I can acces data, but the migration assistant do not recognize it. Can someone please help me?

It's possible that the water caused your hard drive directory to be corrupted when the logic board shorted out. You may want to try repairing the now-external drive with Disk Utility's Repair Disk routine. If it reports making any repairs, run it repeatedly until it reports that the disk "appears OK". Then try Migration Assistant again.
If that fails, then perhaps the disk itself was damaged by the spill. You could go one step farther and try using data recovery software on the drive:

Tables are already created in both of the oralce databases only the data varies. I just have to import only few records from one oracle to another with the same user name and table already existing.
I have tried using database link. I can view records from the other oracle database but as soon as i write an insert command oracle gets held. I cant do anything.

Chrome missing in Import data from another browser

I use both chrome and firefox portable from site portableapps because mozilla doesn´t have a portable version.
My dilemma today is this:

Do i need chrome installed on machine to grab something from registry?
By what i can remember always had that option on portable versions, i am importating this with a fresh pc machine because i installed now windows where i previously wiped the disk from manufacturer erasing tool.
i digged the net and on questions here but cant find why its missing, can you guys tell me why?

Which that version you probably need to export the bookmarks to an HTML file and import that file in Firefox.
You can open the Bookmarks Manager in Google Chrome (wrench icon > Bookmarks > Bookmarks Manager) and select "Tools > Export Bookmarks"<br />
This will export the Chrome bookmarks to a file bookmarks.html.<br />
You can import that file in Firefox: Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import HTML : "From File"

I would like to import my bookmarks from IE but the 'Import Data from Another Browser' is greyed out and not an available choice.

Import data from another browser - Only few IE9 favorites get transfered to bookmarks. HTML solution - HTML file all favorites correct, but same result

Win7 / IE9: First time use. Example: One favorites folder has 4 HTML entries - only 2 get transferred. Some have none transfered - folder empty. Others have random correct + some missing.

I can see complete IE9 Favorites HTML list in HTML file on Desktop with Firefox -> New Tab -> Open File.-> Open
In desktop HTML file, there are 37 IE9 folders with no more than nesting 3 deep in any one top folder. These are all correct wrt IE9 favorites.
All top folders + deepest nests are copied to FF ok. Contents random. Copied contents work ok
7 HTML web sites not allocated to IE9 top folders are also copied <- these 7 copy to FF and work ok
Example: First folder in IE9 list has no nesting., IE9 has 4 entries - Firefox has only 2. when either method of copying is used.
BTW - please advise how I can delete whole Bookmark list in Firefox in one keystroke to be able to retry with a clean Bookmark list
I am going to uninstall Firefox and start again with a clean copy and use HTML method only to try to transfer IE( files. I will report result.
BTW, I am in UK on UK time - hence delays in replying - need to sleep sometimes!!!!!

I uninstalled Firefox. Re installed and loaded IE9 favorites from HTML file.
All seem copied correctly
First time I started by using the "import data from another browser". Partial copied.
Then I tried "Import from HTML file" without deleting whatever favorites had been copied. Still partial copied.
All seems well.

Why the "Import Data from Another Browser" option cannot be chosen

I click on History on the menu, then, Show All History option, a new window appears called Library.
I click on the button: 'Import and Backups', a drop down menu appears with the option 'Import Data from Another Browser'; however, this option in my browser is light gray, i.e. I cannot choose it. Why?

Are you in the Private Browsing mode when you try that Import menu item?

The guts of my computer were rearranged and I got a new main hard drive. My old one is still in there and I can get stuff from it, but when I go to the Mozilla folder on the old one, I can't figure out if there's anything I can do to get all my bookmarks from that drive to my new one, where Firefox is newly installed.

If you open Firefox then Firefox will always use the default profile folder as found via profiles.ini on your system drive.
You either need to import the file in your current default profile or copy the file to your current profile folder while Firefox is closed.
Firefox 3 stores the bookmarks and the browser history in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/places.sqlite places.sqlite] and no longer creates an HTML backup by default.
There are also (five) JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder within the Firefox profile folder.
You can either copy the file places.sqlite to your [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] or import the most recent JSON backup from the bookmarkbackups folder of that old profile.

Is it dead or corrupt? There are recovery programs out there, however if your HD is head, paying pros to do data recovery is VERY costly. Some have removed the platters and installed them in likewise drives that dont have head crashes, but torque tolerances are tight, and doing it right is a bit advanced and tricky for most. Ive done HD disk swaps 4 times and had success 3 of the 4 times. It requires cannibalizing another working HD. In the future remember the golden rule, 2 copies is 1, and one is NONE.
Its likely you could find a local computer repair station that can do it for you cheaply. HD dont really "die", they have fried SATA bus, or crashed HEADS........the platters DO demagnatize over long time due to heat and degauss of the data (poor storage, etc).........but in specific, a HARD DRIVE DOESNT DIE ,.........only the flying head mechanisms that read and write the data, and SATA / bus that feeds the data DIES,.......but the data (unless corrupt or magnetically corrupted) is THERE

Problem in importing calendar data

Hi, I have a problem in importing calendar data, i.e. no national holidays are imported in the calendar (neither when I create the calendar nor later on using the settings). After waiting quite a while on the window "importing calendar data" I always get the message:
"Unable to access calendar data - There was an error attempting to access a shared calendar using your internet connection. Check your connection settings and try again".
That happens whatever the national holidays I choose.
My internet connection works fine, so I don't understand where the problem is. Would anyone have useful hints?

Log into another account on you Mac and see if you can add holidays there. If not then a reinstall of iPhoto is indicated. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder.
If you can import OK in the other account then the problem is with your primary account. It could be a preference file other than iPhoto's. Here's how to determine if that's the case:
Trouble Shooting Preferences in Leopard
1 - Create a folder titled "Preferences A" on the Desktop.
2 - Open the working Preferences folder, HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences, and move the contents to the Preferences A folder on the Desktop.
3 - Make a duplicate copy of the Preferences A folder on the Desktop as a precautionary backup.
4 - With the working Preferences folder empty run the application again and determine if the problems is fixed.
NOTE: you may have to drag the contents of the working folder to the trash and empty if moving the contents to the A folder only copies them instead of moving.
5 - If the problem is fixed:
A - open the working Preferences folder (HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences).
B - Open the Preferences A folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here.
6 - If the problem is NOT fixed, empty the working Preferencess folder and move the contents of the Preferences folder on the desktop back into it.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

if i don't have TEST table on server B whether COPY command will create this table on server B with the same structure ? If you specify CREATE as a clause the table will be created:

I am facing the below error when I try to import master data from R/3 through the inbound functional module /DMF/MDIF_PRODUCT_INBOUND to the PMR component (PMR - Promotion Management for Retail).
