Importing Camera Archive

I have a homemade DVD, in my Mac and when I import "Camera Archive"
It imports fine, but I need to Edit some parts, so I import the Clips, and they show up in a ramdom order, (not from the beggining to the end).
Draging them to put them in order is almost impossible, so my Question is:
Is there a way to Import Camera Archive and made them show in the right sequence?.
I will try to make myself understood, so imagine the file Camera Archive has files
from 1 to 16 and when Imported they show up 7,9,4..... whith no sequence.
Could someone please light my way?
Thanks

Well, interesting thing upon further research.
All my AVCHD archives were in a standard folder under Movies->iMovie Camera Archives.  Within that folder there is folder after folder of archives.  I can see them just fine in Finder.
When I go to the "iMovie Camera Archives" folder in iMovie it says: "iMovie Camera Archives.localized" and NONE of those sub-folders show up.  I copied one of the archives to my desktop and it imported perfectly fine.  So it's something odd about the iMovie Camera Archives folder itself that is preventing me from importing all those archives.  Odd.  Thanks!

Use File/Import/Movie and navigate to the file.

  • Import camera archive not working in iMovie '11 on 1.8.2?

I typically copy the contents of my camcorder to a folder on disk and then would select "import camera archive". However, now with Moutain Lion it is not recognizing any of my folders as a AVCHD folder?
As a test, I took a DMG file (which is how I used to do it, because prior versions of iMovie didn't support anything other then this) and performed a "archive all" on that DMG.. This should be no different then copying the files and tried on this newly created Camera Archive and I get the same results?
It seems that with moutain lion, tha AVCHD contents of are now recognized by Finder and show up as a type "AVCHD Content"..
    Help!?

    Hi,
My problem is very similar. I am able to choose the Archive folder and import the footage that way.  However, I am only able to do that once.  If I try again, it states the file is not a camera archive format file.
The only way I can get it to work again is to completely close out iMovie and restart.  Then I can import an archived file.  But then again, only once before I have to restart iMovie to get it to work again.
    Anyone have any workarounds?
    Thanks

It depends on the type of video. iMovie will only import video that it can edit.
In general, you would use FILE/IMPORT MOVIE...

  • Importing Camera Archive into new iMovie

I have years of old AVCHD camera archives on my hard drive from my old camcorders.  To work with those files, with prior versions of iMovie it was as simple as importing it (File->Import->Camera Archive as simply stated here: iMovie '11: Import video from a camera archive into iMovie)
Just upgraded to Yosemite and running iMovie 10.0.6.  When I use the import feature and navigate to where the archives are on my hard drive, they don't show up as importable.  Despite the folders and AVCHD files showing up in Finder, they do not show up in iMovie's menus.  What am I missing?  Appreciate any thoughts.

  • IMovie 11 import camera/archive not displaying movies, import not possible

    Guys,
hope anyone can help me with this one:
I had some issues with my iMac lately crashing with kernel panics. It crashed (kernel panic) while i was importing some HD material into iMovie 11. ever since, I cannot see any movie thumbnails in the import view (the actual movies are still on the camera/SD card. Also importing from iSight is not possible. The green light next or the camera is on, while no window or an empty import window is visible.
I did delete the whole iLife 11 suit, incl. all references to iMovies (preferences,...) and then a complete reinstall and updated all again.
    Unfortunately no luck so far.
Any tips or thoughts what I could do next as I really don't want wipe and reinstall all on my mac again?
    Cheers from DownUnder

  • IMovie opens wrong camera archive

    Hi -
I have a bunch of camera archives stored on an external hard drive. I can't seem to get iMovie to open one, becuase, once I select the hard drive, iMovie says "Camera archive detected - Click Import to Proceed". It will NOT, at this point, allow me to select a directory that contains the camera archive that I want to import.
Of course, I don't want to import 20 camera archives. I want to choose one.
It appears that someone thought it would be helpful to assume that an external drive would have only one camera archive on it. Probably true for a SD card, but not for a 2 terabyte hard drive.
Is there a way to import a camera archive, if there are other camera archives on that external drive?
Or am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks!

Are you using File>Import>Camera Archive? You should be able to select the one you want.

  • I can't import my Camera Archive to final cut pro x

In Final Cut Pro X, when I select Import Media I can navigate to a folder where I have my camera archives on an external drive. But all archives are greyed out and when I try to double click them from the finder, Final Cut Pro X opens but it says it can't read the Final Cut Pro Camera Archive Format.
    Exact error:
The document “camera-archive” [actual file name is different] could not be opened. Final Cut Pro cannot open files in the “Final Cut Camera Archive” format.
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Do you have Final Cut Events, Projects AND the archive at root level? If so, try hiding the Project and Event folders inside some other folder. Then quit FCPX and restart, or start it up. I know that if you have project and event folders at root level and add a Private folder at root level all **** breaks loose (at least in my experience). I'm not sure that's the case with camera archives so if it's applicable, try the hiding and restart or startup.

  • How can I prevent my Camera Archive import from being interrupted by timecode breaks?

I'm trying to create Camera Archives from my old mini-dv tapes. I have a Sony Handycam DCR-TRV22 connected via FireWire. When I start the Camera Archive import process, everything is fine for a while but then the process stops with a message about a break in the timecode preventing the archiving from completing.
Solutions to this problem I've seen online relied on changing import preferences in Final Cut 7. Unfortunately, I only have Final Cut Pro X and I'm not sure how to control this setting.
I don't really care about timecodes, I just want to dump the entire tape to disk so I have a backup of the tape but the timecode break is interrupting the process and making me get involved a lot more often during the import process.
Does anyone know how to force Final Cut Pro X to push through timecode breaks in a Camera Archive import?

To clarify, this problem is not simply making me get involved more, but is preventing the Camera Archive operation from completing.

  • Import from camera archive without copying files?

I created a few camera archives from DV tapes. Is there a way to import footage from the archive without copying (duplicating) the files into the Events Folder? The option is greyed out on the import window.
When I open the archive package contents I can see all the .mov files, so I'm hoping there's a way to create a reference file instead of duplicating the file.  I'm trying to save some hard drive space.
    Thanks.

When you are copying from a hard drive that does not access the camera import function of the import window. The purpose of an archive is as a backup, to keep a separate set of media which cannot get corrupted by use or computer or drive failure. Generally it's in a separate drive from that used directly in production.

  • Importing AVCHD from Final Cut Camera Archive

I am trying to import some additional footage that I shot with my Panasonic HD camera.  Clips are stored in a Final Cut Camera Archive.  When I open the Archive in the Import window I can see all the clips and they even preview in the window, but when I select the one(s) I want and get the import dialog box, after selecting import nothing happens.

Thank you.  They were already in an Event folder.  Didn't realize that FCPX screens for duplicate entries.

  • Unable to place disk image in Camera Archives

The Final Cut Pro X manuals show that one can import a disk image of a movie into Final Cut Pro X by opening the camera archives. I have made a disk image file (.img) from an iMovie 6 project file. (The video appears as a VTS file in the Video TS folder.) How do I get it to appear in my camera archives file so that I can import it into Final Cut Pro X?

That's a disk image for an authored DVD. You can't. It's in an MPEG-2 that's not supported for production only for delivery. You would need to use something like MPEG Streamclip to rip it.

  • FCP X not reading camera archives (Unsupported Media, Invalid Directory)

I shot a documentary in May of 2012 and imported the media everytime a card would fill up or at the end of the shoot day. I also created a Camera Archive for each card (we shot Sony PMW-F3 and PMW-EX1). A few clips have gone missing and when I plug in my back-up drive to reconnect the media, FCP X gives me a warning reading "unsupported media or has invalid media directory." I've moved the archives onto my editing RAID and got the same error message. I've trashed all my preferences and tried again - same error message. I then trashed my preferences, deleted the program entirely and redownloaded from the Mac App Store and tried again - same error message.
Has anyone seen this error message before? Any resolution?

Very strange: I plugged the drive into my laptop (MacBook Air, 2011) and the same version on FCP X (10.0.5) was able to read the archives. Not sure what the difference is between my two setups, thankful it worked, now want to know why my MacPro won't read it.

  • In iMovie 10.0.5 ('14) how can I create a Camera Archive (just like in iMovie '11)?

I used to be able to import a Camera Archive in the previous version of iMovie.  How can I do the same with the latest iMovie version (10.0.5)? Is it even possible?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the tip QuickTimeKirk.  Out of curiosity: does this mean that it is no longer possible to create camera archives in the latest version of iMovie?  Or with the changes in the iMovie platform, is it enough with simply dragging the AVCHD package into your laptop?

  • The 'Reimport from Camera / Archive' button does not appear in my file menu.

My last attempt to import material from my camera was interupted so not all the footage was imported to iMovie. I have re-attached the camera to try and reimport and the message on iMovie says that I should select the 'Reimport from Camera / Archie' option from the File Menu. Unfortunately, there is no such option in my file menu. I am using the latest version of iMovie 10.0 and my camera is a Panasonic HX-DC3. Help?

i wasn't even interupted, it told me it had imported everything from my gopro then i aimlessly went onto edit. ejected the gopro, went down stairs. came up to continue only to find half of the vids missing from the project screen. telling me the file was missing as it was still on the camera. so i went to import again. it told me done. no not done still on camera only. then when i go to consolidate event files it tells me they are already there. no not there. i went to share finish project (after pluging gopro back in and finishing project with half the vids in the libary and the other half stillon the camera) it lets me share to the new iMovie theater but when i go to youTube it it tells me it cant as half of the files are still on the camera.
i hover over the camera icon on the video file in the project screen where it pops up a info window telling to reimport from camera/archive......... from the file/menu...
    hm hmmmm
    nowhere to be found.
think you forgot a few things apple.........
    fix it up
