Importing camera videos to iPhotoy

My photo camera takes short videos. I have been able to download the videos to iPhoto with no problem. However, when I copy them on a thumb drive to move them to another computer, they are just photos and the length is always "0." Any idea of what I am doing wrong?

  • IPod Nano 4th generation Camera Video Question

I have an iPod nano 4th gen. and i would like to import camera videos from it to my mac. In order to do this i need to re-sync it to this computer. So the problem is, if i re-sync the iPod to another computer, will it erase the camera videos from my iPod? Because it says "erase and sync" whenever i connect it. Please help, thanks!

Are you sure you don't actually have a 5G Nano? The 5G Nano was the only model in the Nano lineup that ever had a camera.  If that is the case, see this article for instructions on how to copy these videos to your Mac via the Finder.

i have moved from a mac pro to a mac mini,
Mini now has mavericks and latest iLife stuff, I clicked import, was all good, then at end, no videos came across.
Is Mavericks,/iPhoto having a compatibiltiy issue with some video formats....???
Your help is appreciated gang.: )

Please describe exactly what you did. In moving to a new machine no importing is involved. The best way is to simply connect the two computers together and drag the iPhoto library from the old one to the pictures folder go the new one and launch iPhoto

  • Can you import movie videos from SD camera card

Can you import movie videos (MP4) into an Ipad from an SD camera card on a Lightning cable ... or can you only do this from a laptop via Itunes? In other words, is Itunes the only way to get non-Itune videos to the Ipad? Hope I havent made this sound confusing.

To import the videos must follow a very strict naming convention.
All file names must have 8 characters for a name and be located in a folder named DCIM
    for example
    DCIM
    MOV_5789.mp4
You can't watch the videos off the cart, they must be imported into the iPad. They'll go into the camera roll, when you tap on them it'll open the video app and you can watch from there.

  • IMovie 10.0.1. I can not import all video's from the SD card from my SONY camera.

I have a Sony HDR-CX280 and the last version of iMovie, 10.0.1.
When i Import video's I enter the SD card in the MAc and choose "import".
I create a new event and import part of the video to that event. No problem here.
Then I import a second part of the video to a new event. This goes extremely fast, but these parts of the video remain on the camera even if the show on iMovie after import. When I remove the SD card the images disappear while mentioning: "missing camera".
When the card is put back in te MAC the images re-appear.
On the videostream there is a small videocamera icon which mentions tha the video is still on the camera and that I need to select "import media again" from the archive menu. However this option is not available.
ANyone know what to do about this?
I alread made a copy of the video file to my hard drive and try importing from there but I have the same issue.
I think it is a bug and I also think the new version of iMovie is a beta version. However I would really like to find a solutoon, so thanks for any help I can get.

    Hi,
I have tried this and came to something strange:
    - created a new library with the name imovie library 2
    - imported the video to this new library -> succesfull - video stored locally
    - drag and drop to the original library: a copy of the event is created in the original library HOWEVER this copy ahs the same issue, it refers to media on the camera and I can not see the video if I remove the SD card.
    What can I do?

  • I'd like to import my camera video using iMovie to a hard drive attached to my MacPro. Is there a way to do this? I'd like some help.

I'd like to import my camera video to a hard drive attached to a Mac Pro. Has anyone been successful doing this? Please help?

If you use iMovie, you need to import it into iMovie.
What storage does your camera have? SD card? That's easy: plug it into Mac and then drag the footage from the SD card to the external drive.

  • Importing VHS video through digital camera

I am importing VHS video through my Sony camera (TRV22) to imovie.  For some reason it the screen will go blue for a few seconds then the picture will come back.  I was doing this on a older power pc mac and imovie would just stop recording.  On my new imac it doesn't stop recording but the screen goes blue.    Has this happened to anyone else and maybe know what is causing it?  Should I try a different way of video transfer with some other software?  Thanks for any help you can give me.

    Two possible causes:
    Faulty or badly connected cables
    You are not using Firewire

Use File/Import/Movie and navigate to the file.

The default settings mostly likely use an audio sample rate of 32k. This doesn't work probably in FCP. You're probably better off capturing the tape in iMovie.

  • Best camera for importing HD video files native to FCP?

I am researching what type of HD video camera to buy.  The goal is to have video material captured to a memory card or stick and have the resultant video files available for direct import into FCP.  I have used  rented cameras in the past where I had to go through a convoluted process of importing the video material into iMovie, and then exporting the material from that application, so that the video files were usable by FCP.
Any info on how to judge whether a camera will create files that can be imported directly would be very helpful.  I have read, for example, that if the camera creates AVCHD files, you can't edit natively in FCP.  I am looking for a camera that is relatively portable, and has image quality one notch below pro standards (to keep cost under $1,500 I hope.)  Thank you in advance.

    Hi again, Guys.
In this discussion, the consensus was that the Panasonic HMC-40 was a good choice at a modest price for shooting HD material that would be cut on FCP 7.  Sadly, I neglected to say, when I started the discussion, that ideally I need to shoot both in the US and the UK.  i.e. at 60 Hz and at 50 Hz respectively.   When I researched the Panasonic HMC-40 I was told that it could not switch between 60 and 50 Hz.  But that the next camera up COULD switch.  That camera is the AG HMC 151 E.  I was told this by a Panasonic rep in the UK.  But the problem is that I would like to puchase the camera in the US.  The US model is the AG HMC 150.  And that model it seems DOESN'T switch between 60 and 50 Hz. It only shoots 60.  (Why Panasonic has done this is a mystery to me.)
On a tech discussion group about HD shooting, one person said that the problem with shooting 60 Hz in the UK is mainly lighting, e.g. if you are shooting with florescent light in the UK, you might get flicker if you use a 60Hz camera in the UK.  So my questions are:
    1) If I am shooting in the UK with a 60 Hz camera (i.e. a camera I have purchsed in the US that is not switchable) what are the biggest problems?
Is it only if I were shooting in florescent light, or is the quality overall a big problem.
    2) If I shoot 60 Hz but am shooting in the UK, can I use FCP to convert the 60 Hz materail to 50 Hz and will that solve any image problems?
    3) Now that I have mentioned that I would like to be able to shoot in the UK and US with the same camera, but that I want to buy the camera in the US, does anyone have another recommendation of a camera that is in the $2,000. range that would serve this purpose and still create files that would work well in FCP 7?
Do Sony or Canon address this switchable 60/50 Hz  issue more effectively than Panasonic?  In the earlier discussion, it was noted that Panasonic cameras created files that were easiest to use with FCP.
I am sure I have said things here that reveal how unknowledgeable I am about shooting HD.  But this will be my first camera purchase after having been an editor for over 10 years.  Any advice most welcome, and thanks in advance.

  • IMovie will only import short videos from my camera.

    Hello,
I recently bought a Sony CyberShot DSC-HX50 camera.   I filled one 8 GB memory card and have half-filled a 16 GB card (I was overseas and couldn't download photos to my MacBook Pro, which was at home).   I have the most recent version of iMovie but this is the first time I've used it.  My MacBook has a new solid-state hard drive and plenty of memory.
iMovie does not "see" ANY of the videos on the 8 GB card; the videos are all either about one, three, or seven minutes long.  On the 16 GB card, it only "sees" the videos that are under one minute.  I have imported those videos to iMovie, but I can't get it to "see" the other, longer ones.  I've tried unplugging and replugging the camera cable, removing and replacing the memory card, turning the camera on and off, and shutting off and restarting iMovie.   I've gone through all of the options in the toolbar and haven't found the answer, and the "help" option isn't helpful at all.  The videos play fine on the camera screen.
All iMovie does when I try to "import from camera"  from the 8 GB card is show the little icons that look like a piece of old-fashioned camera film; no indication at all that there are any videos on the camera card.  When I try to import from the 16 GB card, iMovie just shows the three short videos and no indication that the longer ones exist.
Interestingly, iPhoto can "see" the same movies iMovie can.  I understand iPhoto is not set up to download longer movies (although it has downloaded movies from my iPod that are several minutes long).  But I have no idea why iMovie isn't cooperating.
    Help, please!  Thank you!

OK thanks. I downloaded the Simple Transfer app but not too sure how to use it to transfer pics back to PC.  It asked me to go to a website but I couldn't get it to transfer anything - it seemed to only want to transfer from my PC to the Ipad and not the other way around.
I'm very new to apple products so big learning curve for me.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you for your help.

Prior to put them to iTunes, you have to convert the video in compatible format.
Best for that is Handbrake --> http://handbrake.fr/
