Importing canon 5d mark 11 directly into fcpx

has anyone successfuly imported directly from the canon 5d mark 11 into final cut pro x , the apple site suggests this is not compatible???

Hi Tom,
I searched FCPX and compatible cameras t said it might not recognise, though i will re check to ensure if it was FCP X?
I have tried opening FCPX and selecting the camera icon on the interface above the projects library, but it does not recognise my camera canon 5d mark II , i then selected file>import>files i cant see any reference to camera, however iphoto recognises my camera as a device and is ready to import directly to iphoto and from there it imports to imovie then from there to fcpX, I'm going in on the weekend to see the Apple guys hopefully they can sought out the problem, how are you achieving the import from your camera to FCPX

  • Not able to import canon raw CR2 photos direct from a camera into Lightroom 5.5

I’ve just purchased Lightroom 5 and updated it with the latest version 5.5, and I am running windows 7.  Everything appears to be working fine, however I am not able to import Canon CR2 raw files directly from my camera.  Importing JPEG files directly from camera works fine, however Lightroom can not find any CR2 raw files?
If I copy the raw files through the Canon utility tool on to my hard drive, it appears I am then able to import into my Lightroom catalogue, as Lightroom is then able to see these files on my hard drive.  However why can not Lightroom see these files on my Canon 450D camera and import directly from there in Lightroom?
Are there any setting or preference I need to change to be able to do this?

Are you able to import 450D raw files into LR5.5via USB connection and are you on Windows 7/8?
I agree with your observations concerning SD vs CF card fragility, but they also have a limited number of insertions before failure.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB#Durability
The newer Micro-USB receptacles are designed for up to 10,000 cycles of insertion and removal between the receptacle and plug, compared to 1,500 for the standard USB and 5,000 for the Mini-USB receptacle. This is accomplished by adding a locking device and by moving the leaf-spring connector from the jack to the plug, so that the most-stressed part is on the cable side of the connection. This change was made so that the connector on the less expensive cable would bear the most wear instead of the more expensive micro-USB device.
All my Canon cameras have micro-USB connectors. With one (1) insertion and removal per day that equals 10,000 days, or about 27 years before end-of-life! SD and CF cards are also rated at ~10,000 insertion and removals, but more prone to damage from static electricity and handling due to the exposed contacts and fragility of CF card sockets.
So there's no real advantage from the camera wear perspective to using a card reader. I'd say use whatever method is easiest for your workflow, but handle memory cards with care and avoid exposing them to static discharge.  Ground yourself to something metal before removing memory cards and inserting them into the card reader, especially in cold Winter months.
BTW- I helped design one of the first semiconductor DRAM memory systems back in 1970. We killed more memory chips than I care to count before we discovered they were easily damaged by static electricity. Today's ICs have built-in protection, but you can still damage them with a big enough static ZAP!

  • I keep reading that i need converter software to import Canon DSLR (Mark II or D6) H.264 MOV file to iMovie? True? I'm confused.

I keep reading that i need converter software to import Canon DSLR (Mark II or D6) H.264 MOV file to iMovie? True? I'm confused.

iMovie 9.0.9 is the latest version you can run unless you upgrade to the Mavericks operating system (OS 10.9).
Your profile (at the bottom of your post) mentions OS 10.4.11 (Tiger) which is why I mentioned that.
The list of supported cameras is not comprehensive  but articles such as:
    https://getsatisfaction.com/apple/topics/make_canon_eos_6d_h_264_1080p_footage_e ditable_in_fcp_imovie
do indicate that conversion is needed before import, at least for iMovie 9.  Although it's a recent article it doesn't specifically mention  iMovie 10.
iMovie 10 has a very much changed interface and a different folder structure so upgrading is not trivial so I would not advise rushing into upgrading.
Maybe someone with knowledge of this camera can help.

  • Importing music form Cd's directly into a playlist...

Cab anyone please advis em if it is possible to import music form Cd's directly into an iTunes playlist? So that on arriving in that 'previously created playlist'on arival there all relvant detail is shown. Including artis and album info dor each track. To date each time I try to import the full list of he tracks us shown, but often kisted as track 1, track 2 etc. etc. Which then requires that I am thenb obliged to do a lot of work referring to the CD cover itself in order to transfer that inmfomation, by typing, into iTunes. Having then compleetd all this info, on trying to then craete a playlist, all the previous inofo I had just typed had completrely vanished fromsight. I was then left with the entire music LIBRARY listing where each imported track was lsited but not with the info I had just typed; but only by the track numer: track 1, track 3, etc etc. again. I the had to crweate a playlist, the transfer each song one at a time into the tha playlist. By the time I had finished I no loher wanted to hear the music. I was way topo tired and needed a rest.
There must be a beter way of doing al this. Please advise. Apologise fo rmy ignorance, I am 80 yers of age and no expert in thsi technology. Thanks

    Hello Gordon,
First of all you don't really need to create a playlist to get the songs onto the iPod if you are managing it manually so you have an extra step in there that's not really necessary. Once your album is imported you can locate it using the browser and drag the tracks from there to your iPod.
If the songs have all the information on artist, album etc. filled in then you should be able to find them using your iPod menu. I think I know though why you might have had difficulty with your Phantom album. I suspect that the songs on it are all listed as being part of a compilation.
If the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation (an album where the tracks are by various artists), they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu). Look to and see if "Part of a Compilation" is ticked. Setting "Compilations" on your iPod main menu prevents you getting lots of single artist entries when you load an album by various artists. You'll find compilation albums listed separately on your iPod and they can also be grouped separately in the iTunes browser.
To set Compilations in the iTunes browser open iTunes and go to File>Preferences>General and tick the box "Group compilations when browsing" then choose OK. When this is set you'll see "Compilations" as the top entry in the browser's Artist pane. When you click on it you'll find any albums listed as compilations will appear in the Album pane.
To view Compilations from the main menu of your iPod scroll to Settings and press the centre button. Scroll down the list that appears until you see Compilations and check that it is set to On, pressing the centre button switches it on or off.
Scroll back up the list to Main Menu and press the centre button again. Scroll to Compilations in this next list to switch the setting to On then press Menu a couple of times to return to the main display.

  • How do I capture tape-based media to my external hard drive?  There is only one firewire 800 port on the back of my I mac.  The manual says to import tape footage directly into fcpx, but then I lose my external hard drive.   thanks for your help.

In FCP X How do I capture tape-based media (hdv clips)- which I want to import-to my external hard drive?  There is only one firewire 800 port on the back of my I mac.  The FCPX manual says to import tape footage directly into final cut, which works, but then I lose  my external hard drive    Do I  have to import it into an event, then copy it over to an external hard drive?  On Larry Jordan's tutorial, he has 3 external hard drives that show up on his monitor WHILE he imports his tape based media.  How is that done?  I can only get either the camera to appear OR my external hard drive.   thanks for your help.

Thanks for your response, but that doesn't solve the problem.  Yes, the LaCie hard drive has 2 firewire ports-
I have always done what you suggest (works fine in FCP7), but in FCPX when I do that the camcorder icon
does not appear.  It only shows up when I DIRECTLY import the footage via firewire.  ????

  • Problem with using Canon 5D Mark II footage with FCPX

    Looking for advice ,
Avid have AMA link so you don't need to wast hard drive space, it conect directly to your raw footage and you can edit you don't need to transcode footage in order to edit. Does FCPX have that option ? The footage that I am using is Canon 5D mark II  after import i am ending up with raw footage and transcode footage Dubuling use of my space on HD . I would like to be able to dump my Canon 5D footage on hard drive conect with FCP(without dubuling footage) and start editing. I am doing someting wrong ? Need advice .
    Thanks
    A

    That is great thanks
    My steps are these:
    1. From my card I add DCIM folder to FCP Events folder.
    2. Then I go to FCP X and import but then he is creating original media folder with (id) so then I guess I can delite DCIM since I can use for future editing that (id) raw footage .Is that corect? My hard drive is backing up everytime I add new footage to HD.
    Thanks

  • How do I import an Iphoto Project (book) directly into Aperture 2?

I have a book that I did as a project in iPhoto '08 that I would like to import directly into Aperture 2 and "redo" the book using Aperture's new features.
Although I imported my iPhoto library I don't seem to have this project in Aperture and when I look to export the project from iPhoto it wants to export it as a movie.
Since the photos from iPhoto are in Aperture I figured that importing the iPhoto project would be easy. I don't want to recreate the book again if I can help it - I just want to import and modify it in Aperture.
Is it possible to do and can anyone tell me how to do this?
    Thanks,

You CAN completely customize the text in iPhoto books, including left/center/right justifications, and it is fairly easy. Here's the workaround:
    1) In your iPhoto book (or calendar or whatever) layout, highlight the text you want to modify or change its alignment.
    2) Launch TextEdit and open a blank document. Paste the text from iPhoto into the document.
    3) Still in TextEdit, highlight your text. Using ordinary word processing methods, modify or realign your text as desired. When satisfied, highlight the customized text and copy it.
    4) Back in iPhoto, paste the newly modified text you just copied from TextEdit into the desired text box, overwriting (or deleting first) the original text. All the modifications you made in TextEdit should apply.
This trick can work wonders for helping make an iPhoto book completely your design.

  • How do I transcode Canon 5D Mark II media into Final Cut X?

    Hi,
I recently purchased Final Cut X.  I will be editing Canon 5D Mark II media.  How do I transcode the 5D media?  Do I need the compressor app to do it?  Is there a demo video out there that anyone reccomends.
    thanks,

Tom, buzzdad...The camera is conected through USB 2.0. There are three or four USB slolts on 27" iMac. All of them tested, none of them mounts the camera on the desktp ( which is very weird ). Like I said above I can transfer the movies ( misteriously I must say ), through Image Capture to the mac hard drive. ( I really don't know if this process cause any loss in the image quality, for instance ).
I have had similar experiences. I have used a number of digital cameras over the years (DSLR as well as compact cameras).
Some cameras mount right on the desktop, some don't. For those that don't, Image Capture seems to be the way to bring the image and/or movie files from the camera to your mac (you could probably use iPhoto or Aperture, also; but I dislike using those for video files).

  • Import BPAV files directly into FCPX?

I have downloaded XDCAM Transfer and Sony Drivers from software.  I can't get FCPX to import BPAV files directly to the program.  running trial version
    Advice?

First, I mark a clip I want to use as OK - this gives it a blue tag so I can identify the clips I have processed.
I don't really have time to go through it blow-by-blow, but if you mark a clip in and out in the preview window, you can right-click on it and choose "Make new clip from selection" (or words to that effect).
When you do this, a new clip is created from the in and out points on your clip and by default, appears at the end of your thumbnails in the browser (identify it by the blue tag). You can repeat this as many times as you like with different parts of the master clip - and then delete the master.
This reduces the size of clips in the BPAV folder and of course, they are already rough-edited when you import into FCP X.
To create XDCAM files from the BPAV stuff, simply select the clips and then click the "Register for Final Cut Pro" icon.
Where the files go, is dictated by whatever you choose in preferences.
I'm no expert with XDCAM Browser, so unfortunately, every file I "Register for FCP" appears to have a duplicate MXF file - I ignore or delete these (not found out how to avoid or use them yet).

  • Will I be able to import 1080/60P from my Panasonic TM900K directly into FCPX?

I understand that there are limitations with the codec in importing 1080/60P video in native format, directly from my camera.  I've seen comments that this may be remedied through Final Cut Pro X, but have yet to see any definitive response.  Can anyone confirm that FCPX will handle direct import of full resolution video without converting or reducing to 1080i or less?

Anyone who knows cannot say, or risk spending the rest of their life in court.

  • Import Canon 5D Mark III RAW

I have seen many posts about the 5D Mark III not being supported yet for RAW imports into Aperture, but can someone explain why it is on this list?
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
My Aperture 3 is up to date and I just tried to import RAWs last night and received "unrecognized format".

    Hi
You need to download the "Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3.12" via Software Update.

  • I cannot import images from my camera directly into Elements Organizer

I am trying to import images into Elements Organizer from my Canon EOS 6D, but it doesn't work properly. I am expecting the images to appear in the Elements Organizer, but the images are only imported onto disk. At the moment I have to re-import images from the disk location as a second step. How can I perform this in one step, as I have seen this in the tutorials?
I am on a Mac using Yosemite using version 13 of Elements Organizer.

There is no "into". LR and PS just reference your photos on the hard drive.
When you import your photos "into" the LR catalog, LR can copy the images off your memory cards to the hard drive if you have not already copied them, but the photos are referenced by the LR catalog by the path and filename for the files.
If you are having problems getting the images off the cards, what steps are you using and what error messages are you getting?

  • Import Premiere Pro CS5.5 Project into FCPX?

It's hard to hunt down ideas online, but if the new FCP update is good there may soon be a lot of people trying.
The only way I could figure out to do it was to export FCP XML from PPCS5.5, import that into FCP7, then use 7toX to get it from FCP7 to FCPX.  I just can't get it to work the way it's supposed to.
My PPCS5.5 project is a monster, which probably doesn't help.  PP lets me export it just fine, but when I try to import what it exports into FCP7, I get a bunch of "'looking for movie in file' X" messages, then FCP7 crashes.  If I click to search for a file it says it wants, that file is always for some reason grayed out and unselectable, arg.
Anyone have any ideas that maybe eliminate the FCP7 middleman?
    Thanks...

you will need a middle man. At least until PPRO is capable of exporting to FCPx XML.
My middleman is called Resolve Light from BlackMagicDesign. It is FREE to download and iin my experience it converts beautifully from PPRO XML to FCPX XML.
There you will import the PPRO XML and export it as FCPX XML.

  • Importing a Photoshop CS3 VideoFile directly into Premiere

    Hello,
I'm trying to work with the new photoshop feature that you can directly edit your film in photoshop. After i edited a video in photoshop I tried importing it again in Premiere, but the program didn't accepted it. In the help file however photoshop says that when the psd format is supported by Premiere.
I also have another question. When I open an avi file in photoshop that is no problem, but when I open a mp4 I only get a black screen. Somebody knows how to fix this?

You need to render the file in Photoshop first.
File - Export - Render Video.
I know you can render to QT movie - mp4, but
your mp4 may be a different variation, Photoshop doesn't recognize.
