Importing Captions from PSE for PC

This is my first Mac in years. So far I am loving it. But, my wife says that we have to move all our photos from the old PC to the Mac before she will be convinced the Mac is the best way to go. If I am successful we may purchase an iMac this fall...I was running PSE3.0 on the PC and immediately bought PSE4.0 for the Mac. I quickly realized they weren't the same and I'm now on a quest to make iPhoto my "organizer/browser". Now, I have figured out how to "write tags to file" in PSE3 and import them into iPhoto, with the help of KA. I was proud of myself but she then asked, "where are all my captions?" Uh oh. I have found them using Bridge and they are listed as "Description" under the IPTC data. But, I can't find a way to import these captions into the "comments", or any other place, in iPhoto. Any and all help will be much appreciated.
Matt

Matt:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Unfortunately iPhoto can only use the keyword metadata that an image file can contain (along with the EXIF data from the camera). I don't know of any script or application that can add the captions into iPhoto from the files. We're all hoping that the next version of iPhoto will be able to better handle the metadata that's in the files and write the comments and keywords back to the file. We'll just have to wait.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How do import files from pse 12 to pse 13

Hi. how do I import files from pse 12 to pse 13 .. I was given 'full' version as opposed to update from 12 to 13

    Hi trog1654,
You can take back up of the catalog in PSE12 and restore it in PSE13 or you can use convert feature(Catalog Manger(shortcut:Ctrl+Shift+C)-->convert) in PSE13. It will be a good option if you want to move all files from PSE12's catalog.

  • Import slides from scanner for Photoshop Elements 13

How do I import slides from my Epson scanner. I don't get the option of what type, photo, negative or slide to import like I did on a previous Photoshop Elements. I am using Elements 13 now. I would appreciate the help.

And to be clear, you have to click where it says Chat on the screenshot I posted, above, then it should bring up a page that has an area that looks like what is below, where you click and type into the red box.
If, after clicking on the Chat area, your browser isn't showing you a webpage with a red box where you can type up to 500 characters, then try a different browser, and/or temporarily disable any internet-security software you have in case it is blocking the communications. Chat does work but it does take a while for someone to respond, usually.

  • Migrating from PSE for Windows 6 to PSE for Mac 6 including metadata

Can't find anything in the knowledge base on this.
I am giving up on Windows. Its just too messy and ugly. One of the final changes will be migrating from MS Windows Vista and PSE 6 to a brand new Mac, using LEopard 10.5.2 and PSE for Mac 6.
I want to migrate my images from the Windows machine, as well as the metadata organizing information. Surely I am not the only one with this need. I know I can save the mages in a mutually readable file format, export, and have them on the Mac, but I have a great deal of metatdata and image organization in the Windows version of PSE 6.
Please tell me how to migrate the entirety of PSE for Windows to my new Mac.
    Thanks.....

Some related questions-- can Bridge CS3 search sub-folders? Could I filter for a Keyword at the top of a tree, and locate all files with that keyword in sub-folders?
While exporting files from PSA2 on a PC I am using Share / Email to attach my existing keywords. Can they be drag-and-drop added to a Hierarchy in the Keywords panel? (Either from the Filter panel where they are automatically listed and counted, or from the "Other" location in the Keywords panel where they appear italicized?)
I had deluded myself into believing that PSE6 for the Mac included Organizer. Would Lightroom be a logical option for organizing? Particularly if I want to catalog many images on CD without storing them on disk? Can it be purchased separately? What other options would you recommend?

  • Import Captions from Word

Can anyone help me? I've exported the captions into Word,
made modification, then imported them back into Captivate. Now I'm
seeing square boxes in the exe file that I created. Is there a way
to remove them? I'm using version 1.
    Total confused

Hi Verrell and welcome to our community
As my fellow Community Expert Mark indicated, these normally
mean that there are weird characters present. I used to get these
when I would copy a bulleted list from Word and paste into a
caption. My guess is that you will find yourself editing each
caption to determine where the odd character is and deleting it. I
wouldn't swear to it, but in thinking about it a bit, that
character may just well be a tab. I recall in my Word heyday that
bulleted text often placed a tab character between the bullet and
    the text.

  • Import captions from Olympus Master to PSE8

Just bought Photoshop Elements 8.  Imported photos that had been downloadedearlier into Olympus Master (didn't know was only a temporary license).  Had spent a bunch of time adding captions, but none of the captions transferred with the photos.
Is there a way to get those captions into PSE8?  Don't want to have to redo all the captions!

Hmmm.    I've actually asked this question for my husband.  Since he already has been quite frustrated with the learning curve for PSE8, I can't even imagine how I'd get him to take on something that isn't even advertised as being user friendly....
Nice to know what the problem is.   You mentioned that exiftool has a friendlier cousin. What is that friendlier cousin?  and if I wanted to try to use exiftool to do the batch copying, do you have suggestions as to how I would learn how to use it?  If I can figure it out, I could do the batch processing for him as an early Father's Day present....

  • Howcan I import tags from PSE 10 into PSE 12?

I've got the albums in PSE 12 but I have much organizational information in the PSE 10 Keyword tags and don't know how to import them.  Thanks in advance.  Phil Young

    Hi,
If you simply want the list of tags without any association to media, you can try this:
Go to PSE10 catalog,Click on the drop down available adjacent to + button in keyword tags and Select Save Keyword Tags to File
Specify the destination where you want the file to be saved.
Now come back to EO12, open the drop down list available with keyword tags and click on Import Keyword tags from file.
Choose the file you saved earlier and import it.
The tags should be imported now. But please note, assosciation with media will not be there.
If you want assosciation as well, you need to convert the catalog in PSE12.
    Thanks,

  • Problem importing Assets from photoshop for a  menu

Forgive me everyone this is going to be a newbie qustion.    I am trying to take photo which is 3648 x 2736 and use it as a back ground for my DVD main menu. I am using the  blank menu wide as a templete. I crop the picture in photoshop down to 1280 x 720  It is a group picture of about eight people and when I import it into Encore one of the person on the left gets cut off. I taking 720 material and making it wide 16x9 DVD.  Now this is what confusing me. I also  have Sonic DVD and as a test I did the same steps and I was able to get everyone on the main menu.  What am I doing wrong in Encore or is this a Encore issue?  Also do I import the picture as a Asset or a Menu?

1280x720 is not a DVD compliant resolution, so perhaps the first thing should be to resize to the correct resolution.
Easiest way to start this process is to drop the DPI from what is probably 300 down to 72, and see what size the picture then becomes.
People will tell you that DPI is irrelevant as it is for print only, but a huge image that size at 300DPI will get a lot smaller dropped to 72DPI.
Are you building a DVD or a Blu-Ray disc?
Either way, it is probably better to build the menu in Photoshop, including all your button sets, and then import to Encore as a Menu

  • Import catalog from PSE 8 to LR2

Just purchased LR2 and it won't recognize my PSE 8 catalog.  It found an outdated
PSE 6 catalog that it offered to import.  Is there a way to get my PSE 8 catalog imported?
LR 3 beta appears to read PSE 8 catalogs, can I read a LR 3 catalog with LR 2 if I download
the LR 3 beta and import the catalog using that?
Is there a way to export the PSE 8 catalog into a PSE 6 format?
I suppose I can go with the old PSE 6 catalog, that will be better than nothing, but still a lot
    of work I'd rather avoid.
    Thanks,
    Dan

At this time, LR2 does not import PSE7 or PSE8 catalogs.
Lightroom 3 can read PSE8 catalogs, but you can't convert that Lightroom 3 catalog to anything else.
So there is no way to convert your PSE8 catalog to Lightroom 2.
A partial workaround is to use John R Ellis's psedbtool to write metadata to your photo files, and then import the files into Lightroom 2. Some information will be lost under this method: stacks, albums, and any other information that cannot be stored in the photo files.

  • My imported photos from PSE look bad.

When I go to import and look at my photos (previously edited in PSE9 and saved as a jpg on an external hard drive) they look great. But when I import them some of the photos look weird - too bright usually or the colour has gone all funny. I've deleted them out of LR and then tried importing them but it happens again. Only on a certain few. They are jpgs.
What is happening? In finder on the mac they look normal too. under Import on LR4 they look normal. It's just once they are imported.
    Thanks.

What are the settings on the sliders in Basic in the Develop Module? If they are off Zero you have something happening.
Check that the Autotone box in Preferences isn't checked too!

  • Keywords imported from PSE 5.0 (Poor User Experience)

When moving to Lightroom, I successfully imported my substantial catalog (6,000 images) from Photoshop Elements 5.0. Keyword importing doesn't seem to be quite right, however. I've noticed the following two problems.
    1. All keywords appear both in their proper hierarchy AND as separate, top level keywords. For example, I have:
    Family
    Kids
    Nick
    as well as just:
    Nick
All they Nick photos are tagged with both keywords (just "Nick" and "Nick>Kids>Family.")
These keywords seem to be treated by LR as separate keywords. For instance, if I apply "Nick" to a photo, it does not update the photo count for "Nick>Kids>Family." And vice versa.
This is a confusing situation. So it seems that I should delete all of the standalone, top level keywords, like "Nick." Do others agree? Is this a bug in the importing process from PSE 5.0?
    2. The hierarchy tags do not seem to update the photo count properly. When I create a parent/child keyword relationship in Lightroom, the addition of a child tag will of course update the count for the parent ("Family" as well as "Nick"). But this does not seem to work with respect to the keyword hierarchies imported from PSE 5.0. So perhaps I should essentially re-create the keyword structure in LR, which wouldn't be that hard to do. (Select "Nick" photos, delete the existing keywords, and create a new "Nick" keyword with the proper parent/child relationships.)
Again, have others seen this behavior? Or am I misunderstanding how this functionality is supposed to work?
I'm running LR 1.3.1 on Windows Vista.
    Thanks.

I'm trying the Lightroom trial version and have had very similar issues on my import from Elements 5.02.
I get a Top level tag and a matching one in a tree, event though it is only in the tree in Element Organizer. Some seem to have the identical set of photos, but others like "Emma" (my cat) have 10 photos attached at the top level and 200+ in the tree.
I'm also struggling with using multiple keywords at once like
    Jim + Mexico + Lisa
In the tree view I can only select one at a time and when typing into FIND it sometimes narrows the selection drastically for no apparent reason.
Any pointers for someone happy with their Elements Organizer into Lightroom import would be most appreciated.

  • Failure to print from PSE 9.0 on MAC to Epson XP-800

I cannot print photographic images with my desktop MAC (OS X10.8.4) from Photoshop Elements 9.0 to my new Epson XP-800 printer. Printing is not a problem with Word text or images from iPhoto- it is only with PSE that there is a problem.  The problem persists even if I try using a cabled connection rather than WiFi.  I have ensured latest software from Epson has been downloaded.  This problem did not occur when using the same system with the previous printer (Epson Photo Stylus 1290).
Any suggestions for solving this rather than just a workaround of moving the edited PSE image back to iPhoto & printing from there (which admittedly does work but shouldn't be necessary).
    Grateful for any help.
    Stuart

    Hi Barbara B
Thanks very much for this suggestion.
I followed this advice, both deletions and permission repairs.  This did allow me to print from PSE for the first time - very pleased with this.  Unfortunately the colour reproduction has now gone haywire (having been very good) and there are vertical lines on prints - this now applies to both PSE & iPhoto (the latter worked well before)
Any further suggestions?  I feel we are close to cracking it but do not really understand what to try next. Please help if you can. Many thanks.
    Stuart

  • What is the best way to import photos from iPhoto 9 into PSE 11?

I just installed PSE 11 and I would like to move the pictures from my iPhoto 9 Library in to PSE 11.
What is the best way to accomplish this as far as accuracy of data?
    Thank you!
    Len

There is a direct option in Organizer which lets you import from iPhoto. This is under Import dropdown menu in left panel.
If you are importing from iPhoto'09, your Tags, Albums Events, captions, star rating would also get imported apart from your media. This works differently for iPhoto'011 where you can get only the media to the Organizer,
Just a couple of things to know:
    1. If in iPhoto preferences, you have chosen to create copies of your photos in iPhoto library and your library hence refers to the media store inside the library package, then on importing from iPhoto, Organizer would create copies of all those media under your pictures folder. That means, it would not corrupt your iPhoto package or modify it in any way.
    2. However, if in iPhoto, you are organizing by using references to original location on your Hard drive i.e. you are not creating copies of media in iPhoto library then on importing from iPhoto to Organizer, the Organizer would also use the same references and would not create copies of the media.
    Hope that helps!

  • How do I import pictures on PSE 8 for Mac? How to use bridge?

    Hi
I have downloaded PSE 8 for Mac and I am quite disoriented. I used to use PSE for Windows and I am lost. How do I import the pics that are on my imac?
I read somewhere on the net that I should use the bridge module but I cannot find how to use it. Could you explain step by step? Please help!
    Thanks a lot

You don't exactly "import" photos to the mac version, because it doesn't store them or keep records of them. Download the photos to your computer however you want (I wouldn't use the adobe downloader for mac unless you have a specific reason to do so), then you can either open them from finder or point bridge to the folder they're in.
If you use iphoto, you should PSE as your external editor and send your photos from there.
Bridge is just a browser. It doesn't care what you do to your photos when not using it, so you don't see it throwing up its hands and shrieking that it can't find them the way organizer does if you move photos in explorer.
