Importing Cell Phone Video Footage

I am doing a test of importing a short video clip from my Android cell phone into iMovie. I took the video clip using the Camcorder app and emailed it to myself. Then I downloaded it and it downloaded as a .3gp format file. I cannot get this file into iMovie. Apparently the format is not accepted. What do I do now?
iMovie 09

Thank you. I will try this.
Now if I were to receive short video clips from a few different countries, would MPEG Streamclip be able to convert all the clips? I don't know what the video formats are for other countries but I need to be able to convert them so I can get them into iMovie.

  • Import Canon FS100 video footage onto Mac OS X?

I took home my school's video camera-- Canon FS100-- and when it won't let me import my footage onto my Mac OS X. When I try, it says that it is unrecognizable.
I thought that all Canons were compatible with Mac's?
How do I import this footage?

    1. The camcorder must be connected to the mains power supply, Import will not work if the camera is running on battery
    2. Connect the USB cable to the camera and the Mac
    3. Switch on the camera, and set it to playback (not record) mode. The camera should appear as a new drive in the Finder
    4. Start iMovie 09. If the Import window does not appear (may take a few seconds), choose File, Import from Camera

  • Importing I-Phone Video

Has anyone tried hooking up their new Video 3 Gs I-Phone and seeing if I-Movie 09 sees it and downloads video from the phone?
My 08 Version doesn't, along with Final Cut Express...which also doesn't see it.
I'd like to bring video directly into I Movie from the phone and not have to convert it thru I Photo and Quicktime first...which looks like it creates a very noticable quality loss from what I 've seen.

You need to transcode it for FCP 7.
BTW, this is the FCP X forum. You wil get more complete answers at the FC Studio forum.
    Good luck.

  • Importing and organizing raw video footage - options

    greetings-
Looking for a better solution, if available, for importing & organizing raw video. I am using imovie for now. Soon to switch to FC express. After much exploring & learning on my new machine (recent convert), I’m a bit frustrated on how it video is handled.
Please correct any of these that I’ve got wrong, but it appears that:
Importing video (from DV camera) with programs provided on my machine can only be done through imovie and idvd.
Importing video through these programs requires creating a project, and importing the video to that project.
Then that imported video is associated with that project.
So I want to take the imported clips (say from imovie), and organize them archiving, use on other projects, backup, etc. I know that I can find the actually video files by control clicking on the project in finder, hit show package, and get to "clip 1, clip 2...clip 55". This represents the raw footage, but now I’ve got say 55 separate clips, for just one import.
I’d like to effectively organize my various raw videos by year/event etc. So that when working a project, a can pull in the different footage that I want to use. For instance, I previously imported and organzied video footage with my PC editing software, and now, thankfully, I can just bring that various footage from the external drive into Imovie and edit. If I want to do a project and grab some footage from 04, 05, 06, it's all right there.
Is there a better solution for import & organizing my raw video clips more efficiently with imovie or idvd?? Or perhaps another program. Such that I’ve got the 1/2 hr of video "Christmas 05", one file (not 40 seperate clips), saved, and can pull it into projects as needed in the future... Ideally maintaining the clip breaks. Am I asking to much from apple? How do you all import/manage/save your imported video?
    Much thanks for any feedback!

    Ciao Rubbersoul,
unfortunately iMovie doesn't allow you to rename the clips (other than within the project), so if you want to label them for future reference, you'll have to do that outside iMovie.
I personally save the best shots from each project to an external hard drive using the following method:
    • simply drag the desired clips from the iMovie project to the desktop
    • organize the clips by creating the appropriate folders (e.g. by subject, time, etc.), so you'll find your footage faster
    • rename the clips within the folders. If you don't need to give each clip a separate name, you can use tools like Renamer4Mac (http://www.power4mac.com) to batch-rename the clips.
    • transfer and organize your folders/clips on the external (Firewire) hard disk. You can do that manually or by using media browsers like iDive to organize and view your clips. iDive is a digital hub that can help you to keep not only your video but also music and pic collections under control, and it integrates with iMovie and FCE/FCP. Check it out here:
    http://www.aquafadas.com/idive-digital-video/index.php
Always remember that DV eats up a lot of disk space and don't forget to back up your footage to tape.
    spero che ti sia d'aiuto

  • Import from cell phone into iMovie

How can I import video clips from my cell phone so iMovie will recognize them?  On the cell phone, the files are in a .3gp format.  I can play the clips in QuickTime and save them as MPEG4 files on my Mac.  But, they don't show up when I import an iMove Event (it acts like it's importing them and creating the event, but nothing shows up in the viewer.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Again
iPhoto is looking for a "standard" digital camera - if the Nokia looks like a standard digital camera then iPhoto will import from it just like any other camera - read the camera manual or contact Nokia support for assistance with their product and details on to set it up correctly

  • Video footage I've imported from iMovie to Premiere cs6 is missing after the import!  please help!

I initially imported raw video footage from an event that I shot into iMovie 11, but later decided to try an edit the footage in Adobe Premiere CS6.  I successfully imported the iMovie file folder into CS6, then saved and exited the program to work on it after lunch.  When I returned and reopened the file, the footage could not be found.  I attempted to reopen it in iMovie and it came up as a missing file also.  I know it successfully opened in Premiere because I've seen the footage.  I didn't trash anything so it's not in the trash.  Where did my footage go, and how can I retrieve it?

    Hi Ann, Hi JSW,
I looked around a bit and noticed that this same problem sometimes happens in iMovie itself. People lose their media because it gets copied inside the project file itself. If you right click to see the package contents, you might be able to locate the media and copy it to a dedicated folder, then reconnect media to it in Premiere Pro. See this post on the apple website: Source clip missing | Apple Support Communities
    Thanks,

  • Best way to eliminate or at least lessen a cell phone interference noise in a video

We shot an interview the other day and even though we normally remember to tell people to turn off their cell phones, we forgot that day. Right in the middle of a good response we hear the annoying sound that cell phones cause with wireless mics. It only lasts a few seconds, but really takes away from what the interviewee is saying. Is there a way to lessen that noise or even get rid of it altogether?
    Thanks.

This might work for you, depending on how intrusive the interference sound is, and what the other frequencies in the audio file are doing.

Here's a video that shows the basic workflow for removing sounds:

The removal of a cell phone ring is demonstrated at around 4 minutes in. The principle is the same.

  • Is it legal to move songs and video from iTunes to a non apple cell phone ?

I recently got a cell phone ( non apple) and wanted to move stuff from my iTunes library to the phone, is this legal ?

Yes, unless you need to break an item's DRM to do so. This isn't a problem for music, except in the case of very old purchases, but might be for video content purchased from the iTunes Store.

  • Realtime video stream on the cell Phone

    Hi,
I have to develop a prototype to show a cell phone handling a CCTV feed
    1. I am trying to figure out how easy or difficult it isn The cell phone should be able to display real-time feed coming from a CCTV and provide the cell phone user the ability to record, stop, and rewind it.
    2. Any idea how long the prototype should take.Aany crude demo will do.
    3. What components of J2ME should I use (CDC,CLDC ...?..sorry I am new to this).
    4. Is there any sample code that can help me in doing it quickly ?
    Thanks in advance

What is the video converted from? And what format is it converted to?
Premiere Elements is technically not a conversion program. It's a video editor. But if you can tell us what type of camcorder your original video came from and what specs you output, that would be helpful.
It also might help to know which version of Premiere Elements you're using.

  • Making video seem like it was shot with a cell phone?

How can I make either DV NTSC or AVCHD video appear very poor quality, as if it were shot with a cell phone?
    Thanks.

You can also use compressor to convert to the 3GP format, the default video codec for many mobile phones. Select a choppy framerate, something like 15 fps. I think the ipod codec looks to good for somoething that is intended to fake a mobile phone quality.

You actually want a vertical video??
What would you show that on?!
Rotating video or photos in iMovie 11:
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/#mov3a884fd3
In earlier versions of iMovie you can also do this using Quicktime Pro 7:
Open MOV file in QT Pro (QT 7.6.6)
    Window -> Show Movie Properties
    select "Video Track"
select "Visual Settings" from lower window
    check "Preserve Aspect Ratio"
Click on appropriate rotation icon (MOV rotates!)
Click back on the open MOV in Player Window
    FILE -> Save
You can also do this using TransformMovie, available here:
