Importing changes ppi

Hola a todas (that includes you too, Old Toad!)
Taking photos on a Nikon D80, plug it into the 'puter, iPhoto imports the photos and all those photos where I turned the camera on its side to take a 'vertical' shot, those pictures come through as 72ppi whereas all the others are in the standard 300ppi.
Adobe Photo Downloader does it okay, so what is wrong with iPhoto?

Nothing is wrong with iPhoto.
Your camera has an Auto-Rotate feature. However, the camera does not actually rotate any pixels in the file, but instead flags it with an instruction: "Display me this way". No photo app with editing can respect this flag, so iPhoto, seeing the flag, reads the intention and creates a modified version. If you then try to Revert to Original, iPhoto will remove the edited version. However, when it then looks at the Original file again, it sees the flag, and creates a new rotated version. This loop will run as long as you Revert to the Original. The solution is to either a: turn off the Auto-Rotate feature on your camera or b: rotate the photos prior to importing them to iPhoto.
As to the 72dpi... it doesn’t matter a whit. Iphoto defaults to displaying at 72dpi because that’s what your computer screen can show you. However, when it does this the area of the photo (length x breadth) is increased. Absolutely no pixels are lost. Compare the area of a rotated shot with one that’s not.

Export and import change document for user master data

Dear Gurus,
I have two queries on change document for user master data:
1. Are there any approaches to export and import change document for user master data?
We often do system copy from PRD to QAS for UAT and troubleshooting. Before system copy we export the user master data from QAS and then import after the copy process. We would like to keep the change document for user master data on QAS from being refreshed from PRD for security reason.
2. Change document for Role change in QAS
When the role is created or modified in DEV and then transported to QAS, the role change document doen't include this change log. The role change document in QAS only records those role changes directly made in QAS.
Could you advise this is by SAP design or are there any approaches to record this transported role change in the role change document in QAS?

1. Perhaps you want to consider a system copy to a "virtual system" for UAT?
2. Changes in QAS (as with PROD as well) will give you the delta. They should ideally be clean... You need to check the source system.
Another option is to generate the profiles in the target system. But for that your config has to be sqeaky clean and in sync, including very well maintained and sync'ed Su24 data.

ITunes media on Linux server via SMB - slow imports, changes and stalls

I have an unRAID server (lime-technology.com) which is a Linux based server. I'm getting terrible performance with iTunes. The music playback is fine. But if I import a song file or change any metadata, it has problems. This isn't new, I've read many, many posts complaining about this and other problems concerning SMB shares and file systems. But I think I may be onto something and would like some advice.
This is what I've found so far. Snow Leopard, OS 10.6.x, has a problem with SMB and/or any file system other than HFS+. HFS+ is the common files system for OS X.
There are hundreds of posts on the web complaining about temporary freezes, slowdowns, sometimes crashes with SMB shares and other file systems. I have yet to see Apple acknowledge that there is a problem, but there are a few suggestions out there that seem to have helped people. I'll be trying out some of these this week and post the results here.
From my own observations, specifically with iTunes, I've noticed some strange behavior. Here's my setup. I have an iMac running 10.6.4 (the latest update), the latest iTunes 10. The iTunes app is located on the local internal HD, I have my iTunes library files and all my media on disk 1 of my unRAID server. I'm hard wired to the server via a gigabit router. I have iTunes set to keep the media organized and copy the media files to the server.
When importing a song file into iTunes, the file initially seems to copy at a good rate, the file appears in it's proper place and you can see the size increasing as it copies. Then it stalls for a while, then the name changes to a long hex number for a few seconds and then reverts back to its' normal state. The process can take 30-40 seconds, even with a small song file. I looked at the console and I got the following error message:

The same thing happens when I make a change in the metadata. For example, I added onto the name of an album and for each song it changed I got:

This happens for each file imported or changed even within iTunes.
I followed the first path in the error message: /Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/MacOS/iTunes[2820].
In the /Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/MacOS/ folder I find the following files:

libgnsdk_sdkmanager.1.7.1.dylib
libgnsdk_submit.1.7.1.dylib
where iTunes is a Unix Executable File.
I did some more research and have found some posts about file systems other than HFS+ having trouble with app packages. I believe that all OS X apps are actually packages, like folders, but appearing as a single file. Other file systems don't seem to know what to do with these. There was some talk of "flattening" these app packages, but I haven't gone forward with that yet because I'm not sure I understand it enough yet.
I've also noticed that in the getinfo box under sharing & permissions I usually get "You can read and write", but with apps I get "You have custom access". This was something i had noticed before and thought it was a problem on the server, but I didn't realize it until now, I'm getting the custom access on every app. So I think that's probably normal.
I'm wondering if I'm having a permissions problem with the iTunes Unix Executable File. Right now the permissions are set as follows:
system: Read & Write
admin: Read & Write
everyone: Read only
Maybe it's trying to write to that file or another one and doesn't have the right permissions since the song file is now on the server and that's causing the stalls? I'm over my head here. Anyone have any ideas?

I have the same problem with Excel files on an external drive. The drive is attached to my computer which is on a network and another user accesses the external drive. The problem of "custom access" began after our main server went down. I hope someone can come up with a solution so that I can set the permissions. For now the Excel files are all read only.

Every picture I import changes from one simple photo to 16 pictures when I try to move them to a folder. Why? I can import from my iphone or my camera and they import fine but then I can't move them anywhere without this crazy page of 16 photos appearing

When I import pictures from either my camera or my iphone via photo stream then attempt to place them anywhere; in a folder for instance, the picture appears in the new folder as 16 small individual identical pictures. The tiny pictues are like a kalidescope and there is no way you can see them or work with them. What is happening? Why are they changing in this wacky way? I'm not very familiar with iphoto or Mac's in general but I'm not doing more than clicking import to import and dragging them into folders.

If you want help with what you are doing you have to tell us what you are doing, how you are doing it and what you have.
iPhoto does not modify anything during import - it makes a bit for bit copy of the original
What version of iPhoto and of the OS do you have? What camera? What mode are you shooting in? (I have an older Sony camera that do this in one mode)
How are you moveing photos and to where (in iPhotoi it is not possible to have photos in folders - folders only hold other folders or albums)
In short we can not see your or your computer and we can only work with details you provide - and they must match iPhoto language

Changing ppi changes pixel dimensions but not document size?

I have an image that is W=4.375 H=6.124 at 355 ppi the pixel dimensions area under Img > Image Size indicates it is W=1553 px H=2174
When I change the resolution to 72 px it is only changing the pixel dimensions and not the document size. I'm confuesed.
1. What is the difference between pixel dimensions and document size?
2. Is the document the same physical size regardless if I make it 200 ppi, 150 ppi or 72?

Let me see if I understand all of this:
- If I change the resolution the print dimension will stay the same, though what is it actually doing to the image if I increase the resolution, though it still is the same print dimension? I am guessing you can not just add pixels to a given size image and expect it to print better.
- If I change the dimensions, the resolution will change because there will be either more pixels for a smaller area or fewer pixels for a larger area, depending on how I size it.

Important changes in AC models

A few issues have come up and my ignorance of the new AC models is causing me and possibly others to make mistakes.
Some major changes happened. It is really important if you are used to using Extreme or TC to read the setup manual and not assume you know what your doing from past experience.

I will list the items here. Feel free to add other things you find and I can then create a user document.
The New TC and Extreme are based on different processor architecture to previous versions. The firmware is a total rewrite.. it is apparently using a fairly standard broadcom chipset much like several other brands of AC routers.
With it there are major changes.
1. Reset has changed.
The manual lists only two resets. Then hints to a third.
Soft reset like before.. a one second press of reset to remove passwords.
Hard or factory reset are rolled into one.. a five second press of reset.
The exact wording from the manual. p18-19
"Use something pointed (such as a ballpoint pen) to press and hold the reset button until the status light flashes quickly (about 5 seconds)."
So no power down.. no holding reset during a start up.. and completely different timing.
This means it will be relatively easy to mistakenly factory reset your TC or Extreme..be careful.
But here is the confusion.
The manual says if the TC is not responding to hold in reset and power on.. there is no time given. Reading what people have attempted I am not sure what it achieves. A super factory reset.. a clearing of NVRAM??
From the manual. p19
"If your AirPort Time Capsule still doesn’t respond, try the following:
1 Unplug your AirPort Time Capsule.
2 Use something pointed to press and hold the reset button while you plug in your AirPort Time Capsule."
2. DHCP on start up
When you startup the TC after a reset it should revert to getting an IP by DHCP.. but it doesn't say anywhere in the manual if this is WAN or LAN. So I will assume WAN. It does not state what mode the TC will go into. So I need help from people.. is it going back to router mode?
3. Time Machine is supported on Extreme.
Here is a surprise. According to the Extreme manual, TM is now support for a USB drive.
From the manual for extreme p13
"Using Time Machine with Your AirPort Extreme
If you connect a USB hard disk to your AirPort Extreme, you can use the Time Machine application to back up all your Mac computers, including your photos, music, movies, and documents.
After you set up Time Machine, it automatically backs up your computer on a regular basis.
Use Time Machine preferences to set up automatic backups, use a different backup disk, or adjust other settings.
To set up or adjust Time Machine on a computer using Mac OS X v10.5.7 or later: 1 Choose Apple > System Preferences, and then click Time Machine. 2 Slide the switch to ON. 3 Click Select Disk.
4 Choose your AirPort Extreme and click Use Disk.
Important: Your first backup with Time Machine could take overnight or longer, depending on how much data you’re backing up. To speed up the initial backup, connect your AirPort Extreme to your computer using Ethernet. In each subsequent backup, Time Machine backs up only files that have changed since the previous backup, so the backups don’t take as long."
4. Only airport utility 6.3 will work with the AC models.
All setup will therefore require at least Lion OS on the computer or iOS device with the latest Airport Utility.

Importing changes the audio quality of original video

When I import a video into a new project the audio sampling rate of the video goes down and the audio channel changes to mono though the video is stereo.
I have tried creating new projects changing the sequence presets to ones that include the higher sample rates and stereo, but this didn't work.
More info on the original raw video:
AVI
Frame size: 1280x720
Frame rate: 29/frames per second
Data rate: 5000kbps
Total bitrate 5192kbps
Audio:
Bit rate: 192 kbps
Channels: 2 (stereo)
Audio sample rate 44kHz
When I drag and drop this video into the project section of premiere, and I click the "Info" tab, I notice that the audio is "11025 Hz - 16-bit - Mono" which is different from the original video.
Does anyone know why this is and how I can fix it?

full details (codecs, etc.) of the .avi file in question.

I have MAC appliances and was able to install the updates but had to do several things to make it work (that i hadn't done before):
make all the requested changes to server names and PORT settings (on the Macs you have to follow the Advanced tabs to do that)
Follow the sub instructions:
Depending on your email application, you may need to disable/turn off Secure Password Authentication and, if applicable, make sure your Authentication method is set to “Password” or “Normal password.” In addition, you may need to reboot/restart your device for these new settings to take effect and for your email to continue working properly.
I had to check Password several times - both the incoming and outgoing are checked.
had to change the server ports for both.
Make sure you have up to date passwords entered.
Had to enable SSL.
MOST importantly: had to restart the device to make it work!!
then mail showed up!

Ldif import change the userPassword attribute

I made an migration from Sun directory server 6 on sun sparc server to an linux server with directory server 7.
I have got an issue about the ldif import.
When i export ldap data from my old server, i have got ldif-export.ldif file and when i import it i have no error :

as far as I understand, you would like to use the export/import mechanism to turn in clear all the passwords, is that correct?
Unfortunately I'm afraid that what you're asking is not possible...
If the userPassword attribute is "encrypted" in the original Directory Server instance database, then regardless of what you set in the 'encryption-scheme', in the export.ldif file you will still have the attribute encrypted.
The same thing happens when you try to import from an ldif file: regardless of what you have set in the 'encryption-scheme' in the Directory Server, if the attribute in the ldif file is 'encrypted', it will stay 'encrypted' also in the database.
The only way to have the userPassword attribute in clear is change the encryption-scheme and update the userPassword field of every entry.

Audio import changes speed of audio

Hi,
I am trying to edit and mix sound effects and music for a FLASH animation in ProTools. After much trial and error I figured out how to make an accurate Quick Time of my FLASH file to spot sounds to in ProTools. The problem is when I import my audio into FLASH, it speeds up making it out of sync with the picture. I did several tests and it looks like for ever minute of ProTools the audio in FLASH speeds up 2 frames. Both programs are running at 24 FPS.
It is not a NTSC vs Flim speed issue. All other programs read my PT audio file correctly and show it to be the correct length with the SFX where I placed them. FLASH speeds it up, making my animation not time to the music and effects causing me to painfully resync all my layers.
How do I accurately export a sound file into an AIFF format and import it into FLASH without FLASH changing the speed? I have my audio set to Stream as it should be. After 3 minutes my audio is 8 frames (1/3 of a second) out of sync with the picture. This is totally unacceptable to me and my client.
I am highly versed in ProTools and other video software but am brand new to flash. Ultimately I want my FLASH timeline to be in sync with my PT timeline. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Thank you for the ideas. I really want to import a WAV but I can't make FLASH CS5 import it. It says "One or more files were not imported because there was a problem reading them." My WAV file is readable by every other program just fine. I made an AIFF of exactly the same audio with the same export settings in PT and FLASH will import that except it changes the speed by .1432%
*Note: This is not an NTSC vs FLIM speed issue otherwise it would be eactly .1%. I am 100% confident my audio file from PT is at film speed and it does import correctly into other programs like Final Cut without speeding up.
I made an export from PT as an MP3 CBR and that audio file speed up even more. It was over 1/2 second off right from the beginning. I don't know how to use the Adobe Media Encoder or what an FLV file is but I am sure I could figure it out. In theory I shouldn't have to do that as FLASH should import audio without changing the speed for any given format.
Again my FLASH setting for the audio file is set to STREAM.
While we are talking about FLASH, I'd like to figure out how to change my timeline to black and white for a given range of frames in the middle of my animation. How do I set this up so the B&W effect affects all the layers in the stack for a given range of frames? I am very new to FLASH so you may have to give me exact steps on what to select and how to change it to a movie clip etc... if that is the way to do this.

Why does iPad photo import change image appearance?

I've been editing some very colourful raw images in Adobe Lightroom. They look amazing on my retina macbook pro screen, so I wanted to save them to an iPad. I exported them as JPEG files and tried to transfer them both via wifi (photo transfer app) and an SD card using the camera connection kit.
When I went to import on the iPad, the thumbnails of the images look right, nice and vibrant, full of colour. Then once it has imported they suddenly become quite desaturated with dull colours.
Does the iPad have some sort of auto correction process when importing to the photos app? If so can I turn it off?
Or what sort of image colour settings do I need to change on my mac to ensure they display correctly on iPad?

guess it would be helpful if you can upload the photo somewhere and include a link here for others to download and inspect it.

Unity Cobras Import changes speed conversation

Hi we are running latest Unity export and unity connection tools and are migrating from unity version 4.0(4) SR1 to unity Connection version 9.1.1.20000-32
The issue is that when we export from Unity and import to unity connection, the following gets changed:-
Conversation volume is set to low
Conversation speed is set to fastest, although the playback is slowest
The default are set to medium and normal
(phone menu settings)
we can fix this by bulk edit and change everything back but concerned at why the data is getting changed and what else might have been changed that could cause us issues later. Never happened before during migrations from Unity to Connection. I assume the versions are supported with Cobras ?

just to follow up for everyone - version 8.0.31 for the Connection Import tool was updated to handle this. this version is now posted on CiscoUnityTools.com
Short version is backups prior to Unity 4.0(5) don't have per user speed/volume stored for messages (as opposed to converation speed) - speed was added in 4.0(5) and volume in 5.0. The Import needs to check the version of Unity being restored and convert a value of 0 (slowest or quietest) into 100 for speed (normal speed) and 50 for volume (normal volume).

Requisition Import changing UOM and quantity when AUTOSOURCE_FLAG ='Y'

I am loading PO_REQUISITIONS_INTERFACE_ALL with the information for my requisition. I give the UOM_CODE as EA and quantity as 20 and it is changing the quantity to .06667 and the UOM to CA. We have three lines in the QUOTATIONS for this item. The first has CA as unit of measure, the second has EA as unit of measure and the third has BG as unit of measure.
I tried unapproving the first line since it appears that Oracle is using the first quotation line to convert. But when I rerun, it doesn't select EA which would be the next quotation line, but rather it selects BG as the UOM.
Has anyone else ever seen this behavior before? I am passing the correct quotation line in AUTOSOURCE_DOC_HEADER_ID and AUTOSOURCE_DOC_LINE_NUM yet Oracle ignores this and seemingly insists on using everything BUT the correct one.
Has anyone else seen this behavior? Is this a configuration setting or am I not filling out PO_REQUISITIONS_INTERFACE_ALL properly?

Lightroom 2.2 not importing changes or collections...

I have a new desktop with Lightroom 2.2 installed. I have Lightroom 2.2 on my laptop. I am copying catalogs and files from my old laptop to a flash drive and loading them onto my new desktop. The catalogs are showing up with all the images but my collections and modifications to my images are not appearing.
I am careful to always keep my catalogs and images under the same master file so I can find them and move them easily. (I am a wedding photographer and I create a new catalog for each wedding.)
Is this an issue with 2.2 or am I missing something?

Well Nate, if you bought the version 2 upgrade once there's certainly no need to buy it over again. Presumeably you've still got the licence number for it? If so this will also be good for ALL version 2 releases including the latest 2.3RC.
I'd be tempted to do a search of the computer deleting every reference you come across to Lightroom (after backing up the catalogue of course) and then downloading and installing the latest version (2.3RC). By the way, subsequent to version 1 the catalogue has had a change of name - it's now known as an lrcat file which Lightroom will need to convert to this new format.

Important Changes to Email POP/SMTP

Just got two e-mails saying POP and SMTP settings need to be changed to pop.verizon.net and smtp.verizon.net.
I'm paranoid so I looked under "Check Verizon Announcements" in My Verizon and there's nothing there about this.

Verizon rarely rolls out changes to anything all at once, they stage a rollout, or they announce changes in such a way that the changes are made by very few at a time so if there are issues they can see them without affecting the entire customer population.
You are asking for Verizon to respond to your question? Almost certainly isn't going to happen, this is a user-helping-user forum. And your question does not require someone from Verizon to respond anyway IMO, you could have searched here and found multiple threads on this topic telling you it is legitimate, or you could believe what I told you, or you could believe the (only) 1 1/2 month old announcement, or you could just continue obliviously on until one day your email didn't work and then you would complain about that.
I suggest you just make the changes and move on, you will be much happier.
