Importing chapter markers from Final Cut Pro

I usually set up my chapter markers and screen shots in FCP.
If I share this to QuickTime or iTunes library, the chapter markers are present and work well.
This was not always the case but since the latest update of FCP it works like a charm.
However if I export it to COMPRESSOR (because it works faster) the markers are lost.
I have successfully set channel markers in COMPRESSOR and that works, but my work flow seems to make more sense to set up the channels in FCP. (this is mostly because I often decide to do an edit change when I think about the marker...)
COMPRESSOR gives me the option to load markers, but I don't know how to get them out of FCP.
So...
What do I need to do to export markers from FCP so they can be imported to COMPRESSOR.
(before you ask, both FCP and COMPRESSOR are the latest post-Christmas, vastly improved versions.
Thanks.

Barry, You shouldn't have to do anything. What settings are you compressing to?

  • Export markers from Final Cut Pro X to DVD Studio Pro

    Hello,
After finding out how to create chapters via markers in Final Cut Pro we wonder how to export these markers to DVD Studio Pro without having to create ourselves a .txt file and writing the names and the times of the markers in it to export it to DVD Studio Pro. Isn't there a way to make this happen automatically?
Unfortunately the new version of Final Cut Pro doesn't have an export to Quick Time Player and this is why this kind of solution falls out and we really need to create the markers first in Final Cut Pro and not directly in DVD Studio.
    Is there a solution?
    Thank you.

At present, you cannot add chapter markers in FCP X.
If you send the project to Compressor, you can add chapter markers there, or you can add them in DVD SP.
You can add the chapter markers in Compressor or DVD SP manually, or if you create a text file listing the exact timecode positions (from FCP X storyline) where you want the chapter markers to be (each on a new line) Compressor (or DVD SP) will automatically insert the markers when you point it to the text file.

  • DVDSP - End Jump to Menu 1 and Chapters Markers from Final Cut Pro 5.0.4

I went to the Final Cut Forum and they sent me here:
    Final Cut 5.0.4
    DVD Studio Pro 4
I got to the point where I set the end jump back to Menu 1 for each of the two films listed with buttons on Menu 1 of my DVD.
One film has no chapter markers and the other has 4 chapters that I set up in Final Cut Pro, edited as Chapters and Saved for DVD Studio Pro when exporting the Quick Time. This functionality is great and very nice. At the end one does return to the (main menu) from both short films.
What I found, as stated in the manual, was the first chapter marker is automatically put in by DVD Studio Pro. On the film with 4 chapters by depressing the button on the remote one can skip ahead. When on reaches the 4th chapter one does not have a 5th marker for the end and one has to watch the 4th chapter to reach the end and then go back to the main menu. What I was trying to put in was a 5th chapter marker, or a marker at the end of each film where if one wanted to go back to the Main Menu before the film time had elapsed, one could hit the chapter ahead button and reach the end of the film, and be returned to the Main Menu.
When I put in end markers in DVD Studio Pro, the build stops stating there is a GOP boundry problem. After reading the manual I went back to end chapter markers in Final Cut, but these do not come through. I tried more than one second from the end of the movie but this does not seem to be the answer.
thanks in advance for your help.
    Bill

Yes, the end marker is the solution, and it does need to be a certain distance from the end of the media. If placing markers in FCP, I put it 1:03 from the end. If you need to you can extend the FCP sequence, or even the track in DVDSP with a little black. In DVDSP, if I don't have an embedded end marker in my asset, I use the little "clicker" arrows next to the time fields in the marker inspector to move the marker two GOPs or "clicks" from the very end of the asset or track.
    Hope this helps -

  • Retrieving imported AVCHD files from Final Cut Pro X

Hi there, does anyone know how to retrieve raw AVCHD clips from Final Cut Pro X, after they have been imported? I shot some footage on my GH2 and it DID import from the camera into FCP X, but it's not running smooth at all. I heard that it's better to convert the files into pro res first, but I wanted to see if it worked. It does work, but not very well. So now I want to find the original video files I imported and convert them into pro res and then import again. Anyone had experience with this?

I think it all comes back to work flow. The whole reason I have opted to convert the original files to pro res is because it is choppy in the timeline when I'm editing. It seems it's true that FCP X really prefers to work with 'optimized media'...or Pro Res instead of reformatted versions of AVCHD. I would like to work with this original format, mainl because the footage isn't as compressed and hasn't lost a generation...and look absolutely pure and gorgeous in high bit rate from my GH2, however, what choice do I have but to convert to Pro Res if I am unable to edit smoothly? I think Ian had the right idea when he said to compare the footage of both, but again, if I can't even edit in AVCHD then what's the point? I think Apple needs to rectify this in the next update as I'm sure there are so many users out there who would prefer editing in this original format. Is there a noticeable loss of quality, that's what I am curious about.

  • Importing DV files from Final Cut Pro 4.5 to iMovie 6.03

I have a DV quality exported file from file cut pro 4.5 complete with Chapter markers. When I play it in QuickTime - it looks fine - complete with chapters sub headings ( pull down menu) on the bottom right corner - and a white line at the top - with very clear text telling me what chapter I am on right now.
When I drag this same file into iMovie 6.03 - after the import procedure stops - and I tried to play the movie - I noticed that the little white line showing the chapter marker titles - looks very smudgy/ pixilated.
I was under the impression that if I imported a DV quality movie into iMovie - there would be zero degradation - however this appears to not be true.
Question: What is going on here - is the video degraded by importing DV to imovie? Why would the little white line at the top look bad? How can I fix this - is there a better way to import without using a camera?

Why work in iMovie if you have FCP anyway?
good question - because this time I was having problems in FCP and had the mistaken notion that imovie might be easier... guess not

  • Messed up import of HDV from Final Cut Pro

(I also posted this in the iMovie forum)
I am working on a project in Final Cut Pro, but I want to make use of some of iMovie's effects, like certain titling effects.
The program is an HDV project, which in FCP makes it a 1080i60 project.
I took the clip I wanted to work on and exported it as a quicktime movie, full resolution. The codec involved was HDV 1080i60.
When I tried to import this clip into iMovie, I created a new iMovie project with HDV; apparently this uses 1080i30. I imported the clip; it showed up horizontally shrunk and distorted.
When I just play the clip with QuickTime Player (prior to import into iMovie), it looks fine.
Am I not doing this right? How can I work on HDV clips from FCP in iMovie (and then get them back to FCP)?

Given that there are over 150 clips, and 4 tapes, that would be a significant problem.
Also, I am using Final Cut Studio, not Final Cut Express (which isn't universal and won't run properly on my MacBook Pro anyway).

  • Importing markers from Final Cut Pro 7

    Hello
I have markers set in FCP7 on a sequence. I want to export that sequence as a Quicktime and import it into AE. How can I import these markers into AE CS4 with my movie?
    Thanks
    -------------S

Not at all. Sorry, this is beyond what AE is capable of. You may however have some luck exporting an FCP XML to Premiere, then import from there in AE. You will have to split at the markers, though. AE doesn't read PPro markers, either.

  • Missing Chapter Markers from Final Cut Express

I have created DVDs with chapters using iMovie and iDVD. No problems. Now I have upgraded to Final Cut Express HD, and I cannot get iDVD to see its chapter markers.
I have followed the Knowledge Base article to the letter. I was careful to have nothing selected in the time line when applying markers. Following hints in this forum I have tried exporting either Chapter Markers or FCP Markers. I have tried exporting the Quicktime movie self contained or not. I have tried restarting Final Cut Express, which helped when other FCX features locked up after long sessions.
I'm stuck. Can anyone suggest something else to try?

    Hi Al Q,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
    Suggestion,two things to check:
Open the exported QuickTime movie in QT Player, do you see the chapter markers (a pop-up menu below the viewer)? If it is, then the export from FCE is okay, otherwise, something is still not correct in FCE.
Check the iDVD's Preferences, is the "automatically create scene selection menus" enabled?

  • Export markers from final cut pro x to dvdsp as chapters

FCP 7 supports exporting movie with markers which then can be chapters in DVDSP.
    Great.
But how can I achieve the same end using FCP X, my editing tool of choice?

DVDSP has an "import markers . . ." menu option.
Does FCP X have an export markers feature?
Might there be an .xml feature we can use?
Can we expect this capability to arrive so I can create chapter markers in my FCP project and not have to repeat the chapter creation process as double work in DVDSP?

  • Can I import a video from Final Cut Pro

I'm doing a :45 sec. video clip in Final Cut and Kinemac for a local church. They want pre-recorded backround music that fades out at the end. Can I import this video into GB for the music..
    Thanks.
    NN

What do you mean by "this video"? The FCP file? No, but any rendered version: Show the video track in GB and pull the video over.
The question is: Why would you want to do this? If it's just about fading out the music, as you write, FCP will happily do that for you.

  • TS1233 How do I get chapter markers for iDVD from Final Cut Pro X?

It seems like a tremendous short-coming that Final Cut Pro X doesn't allow for chapter markers that can be used in iDVD or DVD Pro. Surely there is some way to get used-defined markers from Final Cut Pro X or at least re-define the Final Cut Pro X markers in the DVD authoring applications. Does anyone know how to do this?

I have decided to say that my problem is solved by the work-a-rounds that have been submitted. I STILL don't like the fact tha Apple has decided that DVD's are a thing of the past and therefore (chapter) markers are of no use. That may be true is the publishing world of YouTube, Vimeo, etc. but it certainly NOT true for many of us advanced hobbyists that still like distribution on DVD's to our friends or a more localized (private) community -- especially to those who are not computer literate. If Apple wants to exclude us from their customer base, I suggest that base will become even smaller than their competitors who still have chapter markers in their products. I'll get off my soapbox now. . .

  • Importing Chapter Markers from FCP

I create chapter markers in Final Cut Pro and bring the movie into iDVD for mastering. But when I playback the DVD, there are no chapter markers on screen. What should I be doing that I'm not doing?

Final Cut Express & Final Cut Pro: How to export a movie with chapter markers for iDVD
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42973
I recommend against using anything but "Chapter Markers" upon export as it has been known to cause issues with previous and current versions of iDVD. Since we don't know exactly why this affects some users and not all users, it is best to avoid the issue altogether and just use "Chapter Markers."
If you know that you will be sending your footage to DVD SP, then use DVD Studio Pro Markers upon export.

  • Import from Final Cut Pro not working correctly

I have a very simple project in FCP. (Ver 6) It is a HD clip that is about 5 min long with 7 chapter markers.
I exported the project as an XML file and imported that into Premiere Pro empty project.
I wind up with two assets, a .mov with same name as the .mov in FCP and a sequence with the same named sequence in FCP.
Right clicking on the .mov and selecting "New sequence from clip" creates a new sequence with the .mov on the timeline.
    There are no markers.
Right clicking on the sequence asset and selecting "New sequence from clip" creates another sequence with the same name and the .mov on the timeline.
The markers are inside the .mov and audio tracks, not up on the top ruler line where markers appear when manually adding markers.
The keystrokes to move to markers do not work.
The "Clear all Markers" function is greyed out , like it is when no markers exist.
If a "Dynamic link to Encore is performed, there is no markers in Encore.
If you enter chapter markers manually and look at the project file (an XML file) you will see indexes with the chapter points , durations and names as children named "Markers" with attribute"ObjectID='22'.under "//PremiereData"
Following , in sequential order, are subsequent objects "Markers", ObjectID='23" through "ObjectID=n
However, if you look at the project file after importing a FCP project, this same function occurs, except that it is "Markers" "ObjectID=30 with the indexes and marker data 31 through n (further down in the file). This area is empty when adding the markers manually in Premiere Pro.
FYI , the project file is littered with the word "Marker" and "Markers" throughout the file, only their attributes make any node unique.
I am at 99.9 &% finished with a VB program to create / modify nodes, values and attributes, except that the XML date changes format at the node named "//WorkspaceSettings" so I am not able to edit values to make a file that will not crash when opening.
I would very much like the import from Final Cut Pro to work, or someone explain how to work with the nodes under "//WorkspaceSettings"
    Thank millions for a solution.

It's a 2007 iMac with 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.  I had been using Final Cut Pro without any problems right until I upgraded to Yosemite.  I'm hoping that upgrading to Yosemite doesn't mean I can't continue using Final Cut Pro - that would be extremely frustrating.

Animation. How do I import still images in final cut pro x (from dragon frame) duration 3 frames pr. image? We have allready tried to set stillimages duration in preferences to 0,08 sek, but it does not have any effect!

You can drag your images to the timeline, select all, ctrl-d and set the duration to 3 frames by typing 3 and enter.
Or you can use Quicktime 7 to "open image sequence", select the desired duration, export your animation to quicktime and import that into FCP X for further editing.
