Importing compressor settings

Where is the Compressor folder for custom settings located on OSX?   I'm trying to import settings from another computer, not sure where to put them.  I'm running Compressor 3.5 on Mountain Lion.  Thanks in advance.

Go the Finder's Menu... Go... Hold the option key down/Library...
Library... Application Support... Compressor... Settings.

I have a number of render settings in FCP which I would like to share with another FCP user who has a separate license and machine. Is the a way to export/import these to another copy of FCP?
    Pedro

You write of 'FCP render settings,' yet you've posted this in the Compressor forum so I'll go ahead an assume that you meant Compressor presets that you've created (the stuff in the User folder of the Settings window).
If that is correct, those presets are found in /Users/pedroparamo/Library/Application Support/Compressor, for instance. They'll be .setting files, or in the case of grouped presets, those folders that are not aliases (aka they do not have the little arrow in the corner).
If you need just one setting, select it in the Settings window and drag it to your desktop. That'll make a copy of the choosen setting.
Make sure you compress/archive what you're sending, then attach to an email.
Or did you mean something related to FCP?

  • Best compressor settings for HDV downconvert -- attention hanumang

Reposting this bit because it differs significantly from topic of thread where it appeared.
goal: the best possible HDV-DV downconvert using final cut studio (hitch: I have added problem of converting resulting film from PAL to NTSC)
previous method: the best luck I've had is Quicktime converting from HDV to 10-bit PAL SD and compressor converting that to NTSC DVDPRO50
Hanumang recommended using compressor for first conversion. My response:
    What settings?
By coincidence I decided to try the initial conversion (HDV to 10-bit) this morning on compressor (but I didn't change the frame rate; i didn't know they were relavant for HD downconvert; I only change them for the PAL-NTSC conversion).
At first glance, the compressor 10-bit conversion doesn't seem any better than the quicktime conversion (due to the frame rate settings?). I don't know for sure because I haven't sent it back to compressor for PAL-NTSC conversion and on to DVD SP.
One issue I'm worried about is the dimensions. quicktime's 768 x 576 (preserve aspect ratio checked; letterbox selected) was the only dimension setting that produced a film that looked right (on the dvd; it's squished in final cut). I don't see that option in compressor. I suppose I could type it in the frame size boxes.
I would be most grateful for help in this matter. I've spent a few weeks on this. I just plod along, zombie-like, trying a few different things every day, hoping to hit the jackpot eventually. I've been planning on trying to downconvert using my HDV/DV deck (print to tape in HDV; then change settings to downconvert and capture as DV). Would that help?
how do pro studios handle downconverting? What kind of hardware do they use? I'm an independent filmmaker, working on a small budget, but eventually, once the film is finished and (hopefully) I have more money, I''d happily pay for a good pro conversion. Do you know what that costs? The film will be 80 minutes long.
    thanks again for your help.
What compressor settings do you recommend?
The best workflow I've come up with is qucktime conversion from HDV PAL to SD 10-bit PAL, then compressor conversion from 10-bit Pal to DVDPR0 50 NTSC.
By coincidence I decided to try the initial conversion (HDV to 10-bit) this morning on compressor (but I didn't change the frame rate; i didn't know they were relavant for HD downconvert; I only been change them for the PAL-NTSC conversion).

Actually, I've been planning on trying to downconvert using my HDV/DV deck (print to tape in HDV; then change settings to downconvert and capture as DV). Would that help?

My bad, I was out in the afternoon and didn't get a chance to pick up on your reply to the last thread. Sorry to hear that your first attempt with Compressor was so disappointing.
Just so we're clear, you're using what exact versions of the software? FCP 5.1? Compressor 2? (For Compressor, in particular, 2.0 vs 2.1 vs 2.3 is important.) And, what are your sequence settings in FCP? Finally, we're to understand that you're actually working in PAL HDV? Or are you working in AIC?

  • .mts files and compressor settings

    Hello,
I need some help using final cut pro!
I recorded some footage on a Canon HG20 camera onto an SD card.
I then transferred the footage with showed up as .mts files from the SD card onto my macbook.
My first question is why can't I open .mts files with imovie or final cut pro?
I used an app called Video Converter to convert my footage into .mp4 files. But I realise that these are compressed files and may not be ideal for editing.
My second question is what is the best file type to edit in final cut pro?
So I imported these .mp4 files into Final Cut Pro 7. The compressor for these media files in the browser is H.264 and I realise that my sequence settings have to match these compressor settings. But I have two problems with this -
    1. I want to eventually export the video to YouTube, and editing .mp4 files with a compressor H.264 is going to eventually be poor quality. Right? Can I change my media compressor settings?
    2. The most important and puzzling problem is that even though my compressor settings match, everytime I drop something on the timeline or edit anything on the timeline it shows that I have to render it - so basically I'm rendering my footage continuously to see the playback. What am I missing - what am I doing wrong!?
Do I have to do something first in Easy Setup or changel my sequence compressor to Apple Pro Res?
All I want to do is edit something in final cut pro and upload it on to youtube with reasonably good quality - any help with this would be very much appreciated as I've been scowering the internet for answers and nothing seems to solve my problem!
    Thank you in advance,
    julia19

    Hi Russ,
thank you so much I'm doing a log and transfer now and it seems to be working! I think my initial problem was that I was trying to transfer only the .mts files when I should have been transferring everything from the SD card.
I can't believe it was that simple!
Are there any specific settings I have to do in Easy Setup in order to later export to YouTube?
    Thank you again!

  • IDVD and Compressor Settings

I just upgraded to FCPX and am trying to output a movie to iDVD. The Compressor settings only do .ac3 or .m2v files, neither of which is compatible with iDVD! If I create the movie in iMovie, I loose resolution when I burn the disc. So am looking for a solution that gives me a higher quality final product.

    Hi
    FCE/P to iDVD
    Several things
    • How to go from FCE/P to iDVD
    • Free space on Start-up hard disk
    • Encoding
    • Brand and type of DVDs used
    • Burn speed set
    • iDVD BUG
    • Chapters
How to go from FCE/P to iDVD I do
    • Disable Screen and Energy saver
    • IMPORTANT --> FIRST in FinalCut - Mix Down Audio under Sequence Menu / Render Only / Mix-down
    • Export out as a QuickTime .mov file
    • Select with Mark - Chapter Mark
    • Not as Self-Contained (not important but saves time and space)
    • NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION (IMPORTANT)
This QT.mov file I import into iDVD from within iDVD.
Free space on Start-up hard disk
I set a minimum of 25GB (for Mac OS and iDVDs temp files)
    Encoding
    • I use Pro Quality encoding
Brand and type of DVDs used
    • I use Verbatim
    • I use DVD-R
    Burn speed set
    • I set down this to x4 (or x1)
    iDVD BUG
    • One can not go back to movie-project for any alterations and then go back to
the iDVD project. It will notice and ask You to either Up-date or Cancel. Neither
    of them will work.
Medicine - Start a brand new iDVD project.
    Use of Chapters
    • I only use a to z and 0 to 9 in naming them. NO other symbol/letter !
    • NO Chapter-mark at very beginning - iDVD NEEDS TO set this by it self
    • No Chapter marks in or within two seconds from a transition
(Way around this last one - Export movie as QT full quality and NO Chapter marks
Import this into a new Movie-project and now You are free to set C-Ms where You want
them except at very beginning - still)
    Material used to build movie
    • video - I use streamingDV (or convert all other to this e.g. .mp4, .avi, .wmv etc)
    • audio - I use .aiff 16-bit 48kHz or from Audio-CD (44.1kHz) - no .mp3 or direct from iTunes
    • photos - I use .jpg - no .bmp etc
Trash iDVD pref. file and run Repair Permissions - and have a re-try.
    from post ??
May not be relevant, but I had the same problem with iDVD, where burned DVDs showed a green screen. It was cured by quitting Quicksilver and Quickeys as well as disabling sleep and screen-saving

  • Failed to import publish settings file in Azure Toolkit for Eclipse with Java downloaded from Azure Management Portal

I tried to deploy the Hello World JSP application to Azure from Eclipse following the instructions at http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/azure/hh690944%28VS.103%29.aspx. Got the following error when trying to import Publish Settings file downloaded from Azure

    Hi huihuang,
It seems there is some issue with your publishsettings file, could you open this file and copy the content here? Or please have a look at this article:

  • Issue with importing effects settings from 3.0 to CS5.5

Several times I've attempted to import effects settings from 3.0 into 5.5 using the 5.5 Import>Application Settings function.  Each time it says that it is unable to do it because of some unknown error.  Is there another way to import the settings?  I'm in the middle of an album project in 3.0.1 and would like to try 5.5 with some of these existing sessions.  I've used the SuiteSpot studios Ses2Sesx program to translate the session.  It imports fine, but none of the effects or racks import.  I very much want to be able to do that.

    Hi Michael,
These effects are mostly external VSTs, but a few of them are native
(Parametric EQ).  The program will just not import the settings .xml
file or the vstmanager settings .xml.  The VSTs seemed to have been
found easily by the program.  I have not yet gone through them all to
see if they will pop up.
Another interesting thing - when I installed AACS5.5 I lost the ability
to open AA 3.0.1.  I had to reinstall 3.0.1 in order to be able to use it.
I'm not liking this program at all.  I don't like the interface, the
GUI, or the navigation through the program.

  • What Compressor Settings for the web?

  • How to import Account settings to TB?

In the process of migrating from XP to Win 8, I have rediscovered a very old (ex dial up, payg) mailbox account which I want to start using again but have forgotten the password. The account is already set up in Outlook backup files and has the (encrypted) password.
The ISP (TalkTalk) cannot help with the password because it is an old dialup account with Tiscali and they do not have the records.
TB is already set up and configured for the current mail accounts.
Is there a way to import the .iaf into TB to add to the existing account?
If I set up a new (empty) profile and managed to import the settings from Outlook, can the profiles be merged?
Can Account settings be exported from TB for importing to the new profile?
    Thanks in advance

Thunderbird doesn't recognize .iaf files to my knowledge.
Assuming you're using Outlook Express you can use the following link to import your data from OE
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Import_from_Outlook_Express
If that doesn't work, then I'm afraid you can't transfer your settings over.
I would probably let someone else answer, who knows more about Thunderbird than I do.

  • Which compressor settings should i choose?

Hi guys.  need a little help.
I've edited a 40 minute summer camp video together and i've been using a HD camera that shoots in MTS files.  my final cut pro 7 has been converting all the footage to Apple Pro Res 422.    The problem is the file size is huge and i need to get it onto a dvd.   my exported final is around 30GB.
So i guess i'll need to use compressor to get it down to a size that will fit on a DVD.
Which compressor settings would allow me to get it on a DVD and still keep good quality?
any help would be much appreciated!  thanks

You don't run the movie through Compressor before going to iDVD -the transcoding happens in iDVD.
    Harry_Boy_85 wrote:
I dont actually have DVD studio pro.
    Why not?
DVD Studio Pro is included as part of the Final Cut Studio suite. Final Cut Pro has not been available seperately for a number of years now.
Grab the installation discs, put it on the computer and learn the application. Much more flexible than iDVD and you won't have the issues that you are currently experiencing.

  • Custom Compressor Settings Missing

Under Share>Export Using Compressor Settings none of my custom settings are there. They appear fine in Compressor itself. Any idea how I can fix this? I've tried exporting, then deleting them and reimporting - nothing. Thanks.

I don't know the cause but it ids definitely worth trashing the FCP X preferences with
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/

  • Where are compressor settings kept?

I have Compressor and some settings I would like to share with some fellow educators who do not have it, but do have FCP X. I was hoping to find the location where the Compressor settings are stored and add extras. And would they need to be in a folder labelled Custom, or just thrown in? Or is the whole idea not going to work? Thanks for any insight.

I should have mentioned earlier - that is the location of custom settings that you have created. The default settings that it ships with are stored inside the application bundle.
So if you don't have Compressor, you can't create custom settings and so you won't have that directory.
If you have an earlier version of Compressor the settings are stored at ~/Library/Application Support/Compressor.

  • Downgrade Compressor Settings for longer DVD

I work with very simple standard definition 4 x 3 aspect video and sometimes make DVD's Compressing with the various Stock DVD Compressor settings.  I have never made a custom setting with Compressor.  Now I would like to put a 200 minute video on a standard DVD (not dual density).
Can I modify a default setting like the 150 minute, and downgrade the quality enough so that the 200 min results would fit on a 4.6 gig DVD?  (maybe room for a very simple menu.)  Do I have to make a new setting from scratch, or could I modify and save, working from a default?  Like I say, I have never made a compressor setting, so I could appreciate a sort of step-by-step.
    Thank You
    Richard Miller

Duplicate the DVD preset you want to use; it will show up in the custom presets in Compressor.  Clcik on the new custom preset so it will show in the Inspector window and make any needed adjustments.  Give it a name you'll remember then save it and apply it to the file you want to encode.
You can use one of the available online bit rate calculators to determine the best bit rate based on your program's duration: http://www.google.com/search?client=opera&rls=en&q=dvd+bit+rate+calculator&sourc eid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

  • Compressor settings for YouTube for 720p 12 minute 10GB project created in FCPX?

    Hey All
Would anyone care to share some settings for compressor please?
I have a 720p 50fps 12 minute 10GB file created in FCPX that using "Publish to YouTube" settings in Compressor is still coming out at 721MB.
It will take me 4-5 hours to upload this to YouTube so need to make the file smaller and who knows how it will play once its up online.
Any suggestions of some other Compressor settings without using too much quality?
    Thanks

    shippo,
When you reference "50 fps", do you happen to know if that's fields per second or frames per second?  Depending on the answer to that, you may or may not need to adjust that.
When it comes to file size, you have frame rate, frame size, compression type and data transfer rate affecting the final size.
As Russ and darby have suggested, data transfer rate is the main thing to experiment with (since you're publishing for Vimeo, the other setting are pretty much locked in).
I have found that when it comes to playing with the bit rate, a video with a 1280 by 720 frame size needs between 4,000 kilobits per second and 5,000 kilobits per second to maintian good image quality.  While you might get good results at a lower rate, high contrast areas in the picture are very, very, very likely to show loss of image quality.
If you need to get your video up asap, start the upload late at night.  As long as your internet connection doesn't drop out (knock on wood), you file will be uploaded by the morning.
Also, (for what it's worth) is there any place close by that has fast internet that you could use?  If you have access to a computer lab at a local community college, a 1GB file will probably upload in minutes rather than hours.
