Importing/converting jpgs as tiffs

Is there any way to import or convert jpg photos to tiffs, while retaining the original EXIF data (on the new tiff) without having to export everything and then import it again?

There's no way to convert anything in Aperture without exporting.
If you import and process and/or edit a photo all that happens is that Aperture records your choices in the database. There is no "modified" file. When you view the image in Aperture it's the original file with the entries from the database applied over it live. The only way to produce another file is to export it. At export you can choose what version to export, and what metadata to write to it.
There are lots off apps out there that will convert jpegs to tiff - Preview for a start. Or check out Graphic Coverter

  • Converting JPG to TIFF

I have a high resolution (300 dpi) JPG image, but my printer wants me to supply him with TIFF images. If I saved this high-res JPG image as a TIFF would that be sufficient to convert it, or is there something else I have to do??
Many thanks if you can advise.

Thanks John, I'll do that. I thought that was how to do it, but just wanted to check to see if there were any "hidden" tricks or whatever that I didn't know about...
    Appreciate your advice.

  • Mail converts jpg/gif images to tiff

I have a friend who has an ibook running panther. When she tries to forward an email message that contains jpg or gif attachments, Mail converts them to tiff, which causes problems for her windows bound friends, and also increases the message size by a factor of 10. Animated gif attachments converted to tif are useless.
Is there any way for her to stop Mail from converting these attachments to tif? Thanks.

Is there any way for her to stop Mail from converting these attachments to tif?
Not with Jaguar or Panther Mail.
This is caused by the sender using HTML for message composition and a jpg or gif being embedded in the message body which are not true attachments.
Jaguar and Panther Mail render HTML received but do not support composing in HTML which includes when forwarding a message received that was composed in HTML. Jaguar/Panther Mail supports RTF and Plain Text only so when forwarding a message received that was composed in HTML with embedded images, the Mail.app converts the embedded images to attachments and uses RTF.
Although Tiger Mail does not support complex HTML composition within the body of a message, RTF in Tiger Mail is HTML. Tiger Mail also supports forwarding a received message that was composed in HTML. With Safari under Tiger, you can select Mail Contents of This Page which will copy the selected web page and paste the contents in a new mail message and the contents of the copied web page will be sent in it's entirety.

  • IPhoto will not import certain JPG files

I have just migrated to a 2012 Retina 15" MacBook Pro from a 13" MBP. I am using Mavericks 10.9.1 and iPhoto 9.5.1. The MBP is a 2.7gHz quad core with 16GB of memory and a 768GB SSD. I was trying to tidy up my hard disc and import some .jpg files from the output folder on my Capture One Session. iPhoto will not import certain jpg files but will import others. The message I get is as follows  The following file could not be imported.  The file is an unrecognised format. Then shows below for example /Users/xxxx/Pictures/Capture One Session/Output/L1000212.jpg.
I first tried creating a new library and importing to that with no success. I then rebuilt the database. I repaired permissions. I deleted the iPhoto.plist and its caches and restarted - no success. I then deleted iPhoto and reinstalled from App Store after deleting the plist and caches again. Still no luck. The .jpg files in question open perfectly in Photoshop CC and Preview. I tried altering them slightly and resaving but still they would not import. I reinstalled Mavericks - no improvement. If I reconvert the files from the original DNG's into TIFF files, then they will import to iPhoto
    Any ideas anyone?

I just recorded an action in Photoshop CC to assign ProPhoto colourspace save and close. Then copied all the problem jpegs into a temp file and ran the action. With this super fast machine, It only took a few minutes to convert 500+ files and they have now all imported perfectly. I have changed my JPEG recipe to convert DNG's from embedded to ProPhoto.
Thanks again. Colourspace would never have occurred to me.

  • Convert jpeg to tiff prior to adjustments?

Assuming my end product will be an 8-bit tiff sent to a lab for a high-quality inkjet print (the lab has asked for 8-bit tiffs in AdobeRGB), and assuming I start with a jpeg imported to Aperture from a point-and-shoot (i.e., no RAW available), is there any advantage to creating the tiff "right away" (i.e., from the original jpeg) before working on any adjustments vs. doing the adjustments on the jpeg and exporting as the tiff? If so, would I just export the jpeg as a tiff proir to making adjustmentns and bring it back for the editing? Also, does a jpeg's lossy compression have anything to do repeated adjustments on the jpeg in Aperture? (I am aware that there is already compression by the camera in making the jpeg, but the point-and-shoot has conveniences for some of my needs that my DSLR doesn't, so I don't mind paying that price).

No, it does not.  You can't re-create information that is lost.  When the information the camera gathered was saved to a file, some of it was lost because of the JPG file format.  Converting to TIFF won't bring back the lost information.
Aperture never loses Image information.  When you export, you create new files.  Depending on the specifications you select, those new files will contain the equivalent of "very little information" up to "as much information as I started with".  Converting from JPG to TIFF doesn't allow you to start with any more information, and, again, Aperture never loses it, so there is no reason to convert at any point from the time your camera creates the JPG file until you create a new file by exporting from Aperture.

  • I save two copies of an image, one jpg, one tiff.  LR will not display the jpg or let it be available, only the tiff.   When I try to put another copy of the jpg into the folder LR says the jpg is already there.e

I converted an rgb image into a grayscale image and saved two copies, one jpg, one tiff, into my chosen folder.
I tried to import both into LR, which only showed the tiff in the import dialogue.  After import LR only shows the tiff in the folder but when I try to insert the jpg into the folder using Explorer LR reports that the jpg is already in folder.
How can I get LR to display this jpg image?

    Hi,
I have an example here that is intended to demonstrate the difference between Positioned and Flowed subforms: http://assure.ly/i8pSdy.
This shows how you can use a slider to change the dimensions of the image object.
I have extended this to an example with buttons to scale the image: http://assure.ly/i8ZI5Y
This may not be fine enough for your purposes, but it may give you some ideas.
    Good luck,

  • Some CS4 Raw adjustments lost after save to jpg or tiff

I've been running Photoshop CS4 under Windows XP 64 bit  (with 8Gb RAM) with no problems whatsoever (including use of GPU feature) since November 2008.
Very recently, with a difficult  event photosession I have a bunch of photos that have are overexposed/blown out highlights which were easily fixed with RAW adjustments in Bridge CS4 with the generous use of the RECOVERY slider as well as EXPOSURE.
After converting to JPEG (quality 12) or Tiff (as a test) the initially overexposed photos which were fixed and look fine in both Bridge and in Photshop show up overexposed -as if the RAW adjustments have never been made.  In other words the jpg or tiff version appears with blown highlights right next to the corrected RAW version (Canon CR2 files).   I need to emphasize that when the adjusted RAW is opened in Photoshop it looks fine -with all of the adjustments perfect. But once it is saved in Photoshop, the saved file does not look the same, it now has blown out highlights.
In other words something in the workflow whether Photoshop or RAW is simply not working the way it should and the way it used to work.
I have downloaded and installed the latest  RAW  5.5. It has not helped at all.  I can't pinpoint the time when this problem first showed up because I normally hardly ever have images with blown highlights. This last  event shoot was very poorly lit and it took a bit of time to figure out how to correct the exposure setting on the spot.
Have any of you experienced this problem?  I can't get Adobe Tech support telephone support without paying for the privilege, in spite of the fact that I suspect that this is a program bug.
Any suggestions will be greatly  appreciated and welcome.
    Thanks,
    Dan

    Some additional findings:
When I looked at the JPEGs which had blown highlights in Bridge, with ACDsee,  they looked fine! So I also tested with Windows Fax Viewer and they're fine again.  Conclusion -Bridge is showing unedited exposure.
Then in response to posting this same problem on Dpreview I got the solution from Walter Wollert:
    wwollert wrote:
" Do you have tif and jpg edit options enabled in RAW(ACR)? There was something I ran into that caused the problem like you have. I turned these options off and it cleared up. Why? Ur guess is as good as mine.
Again, I could be in error, since it happened a while ago and I sometimes have rolling blackouts.
    Walter
    Hey Walter,
Your suggestion solved my problem. Who would have expected that disabling JPEG editing in RAW would solve this problem?  I have been told to make sure this feature was enabled and in fact I always had this enabled because on occassion I find it very useful to use RAW tools to fix problems in some old JPGs.
I've been terribly annoyed and depressed about this problem and it just about completely stopped my editing for over 2 weeks, so you can be sure I am extremely thankful for your HEADS ON solution.
Someone at Adobe should have their head dunked in toilet bowl perhaps?
I don't ever remember seeing this problem in the past, even though I had the JPEG & TIFF editing enabled, and therefore I thought this "bug" crept in with one of the program updates.
    Thanks a MILLION!!!,
    Dan"
So that's the answer to the problem!

  • Problems with opening jpg or tiff files in my own file groups

I have installed Aperture 3.1 from the apps store, but it does not open any of my jpg or tiff files. They are not stored in iPhoto or any other Apple feature, but in my own file system based on types and purpose. They are all scanned analog images made long ago; I do not use a digital camera

    Hello George,
    george e.todd wrote:
First there is no error message - but BTW I did not have Aperture beforhand; this is only the 3.1 downloaded from the App store. Could that be the reason?
It is a pity, that there is no error message, so we just have to guess.
The App-Store version should work just like the boxed version.
I'll check the info panel of any of my images, but as I've never set up anything like sharing or permissions, etc.,
You do not have to set up permissions to have problems with permissions. With each file in MacOS there are stored acces rights, and some times these are wrong, if the files are created by certain apps. Then you need to correct those.
But as Preview can open your pictures, then there seems to be no permission problem.
To me it seems likely that the images use a codec, that Aperture does not understand.
I would like to make sure that you can import  any pictures at all into Aperture.
Could you try to take a picture with "Photo Booth" and try to import it to Aperture?Photo Booth pictures should be imported without problems.
If you can import from Photo Booth, then your image codecs probably are the problem, and you need to find out what is special with your pictures, maybe you can post one as link for us to inspect.
if you cannot import any pictures, then probably something is wrong with your Aperture installation. In the latter case you might wish to perform the basic trouble shooting procedure

  • Jpg vs TIFF

i'm editing an animation project comprised of still images that i'm creating in photoshop. my question is if there is a difference between using Jpg or Tiff files in the quality of the final HD movie, if all i plan to do in FCP is some light color correction?
is there a visible difference in quality if i export the files as 32 bit TIFF?
since the TIFF files are 3-4 times the size of the JPGs, will they slow down FC? (with large JPG files it often takes FCP a long time to prepare video for display)
    much obliged,
    dn

Jpegs are highly compressed, Tiffs usually are not compressed.
FCP prefers Tiff. If your images start off as jpeg, they will not be improved in quality by converting to Tiff. Rendering Tiff will be faster because FCP does not have to decode the jpeg compression before rendering.

Is there any way to convert PDF document in to Tiff format with inbuilt IBR features?
In our Webcenter Portal app, we create the PDF document with the content of ADF pages and check it in UCM using RIDC api.
There will some batch job which will retrieve the documents from UCM and send them to client internal Document management system. The client / batch job will only process TIFF files. So we need a way to convert the PDF into TIFF. We are okie to have both PDF and TIFF stored in UCM.
When i have done research, i could only see components like PDFexport or TIFFConverter which only converts the other formats into PDF. But i am expecting a reverse conversion. Is it possible ? ThanksYa actually I got a tool that could [convert pdf | http://www.allbestapp.com/products/pdf-converter.html] to other formats, including jpg and tiff. that may fit your need.
You could take a shot through the link above.

  • Saving as .jpg or .tiff loses black

    I am in CS5
    Mac
After saving and opening up as a .tiff or .jpg the black has faded and becomes much more weak, why is this? This happens every so often when I'm working with files, but I don't know the reason, maybe a setting I need to tick? If anyone has the solution or suggestions I would much appreciate it.
-I created my event poster in CMYK, the darkest black I used was 75, 68, 67, 90
-I have 1 photo (background mountains) that was orginally RGB and converted to CMYK when brought in.
-Tested merging all layers together and the outcome was fine, only after saving and viewing is it faded
-Could this be a monitor issue, or even the settings in my "preview" that are throwing this off?
    Color settings
    Screenshot of original .PSD file
Screenshot of JPG and TIFF file

I re-opened the .jpg in PS and it looks perfect, I also opened in acrobat & firefox and it looks like it should. What the heck preview! What do you use to view your non .psd files after they are finished?

  • Shift+Ctrl+Cmnd+4     Capture Clipboard as JPG not TIFF?

    Hi,
i am using very often this shortcut : Shift+Ctrl+Cmnd+4
When i used Shift+Ctrl+4 it is doing the file on Desctop as a JPG file. That's perfect.
But when i used Shift+Ctrl+Cmnd+4 to Clipboard and then paste it into Mail it paste as a Tiff.
How can i change Clipboard file format to JPG from Tiff?
    Snow Leopard : 10.6.7
    Greetings from istanbul

It seems like when doing the Screenshot + Ctrl for saving it to clipboard, it is always saved as Tiff. Any defintion you do either with 3rd party applications or with terminal command is only effect when the file is actualy saved to Hard disk. It will take no effect on the clipboard.
No, this is not correct. As I had posted earlier, you can look directly at what is in the clipboard by using Finder>Edit Menu>Show Clipboard. The system default format for a screenshot is PNG, and if you capture a normal screenshot to the clipboard by adding the CTRL key and look directly at the clipboard you will see that the image there is in PNG format:
If you then use a utility like TinkerTool to change the capture format to JPEG, then that is what will go to the clipboard when you add the CTRL key:
When you then paste the image somewhere, the app that receives the image can change the format. In my system, a default PNG clipboard screenshot image that is pasted into Mail stays as a PNG image. However if you change the capture format to JPEG, then the JPEG clipboard screenshot image gets converted to TIFF when it is pasted into Mail.

            cp.add(labelPanel);
}The image sample format that succeeds is black-and-white (not greyscale -- each pixel is
either black or white, not a shade of grey). When I write to switch the image that was written
out to the colored version, I got the the commented error:
Only integral single-band bilevel image is supported
I don't know what color models WBMP supports, but that's not much to sing about!
You should find out if this limitation is in the wbmp image writer or in the wbmp format itself.

  • IPhoto will not import some jpg files

I have been trying to import some photos into iPhoto. All the pictures that I have have been taken with a Canon 40D in a RAW format. The pictures were then imported into Adobe Lightroom where I made some modifications. Once all the necessary changes were made all the files were exported from Lightroom as jpg files. I am trying to import the jpg files into iPhoto and about 50 out of the 1250 pictures would not import as they were an unrecognizable format. I have checked to make sure all my software is up-to-date. I have tried importing those 50 pictures again with no success. As all the pictures have been created with the same exact process I am have no idea what is causing this issue. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. I have searched for this issue in the support pages and not found anything. If a support article is around that already deals with this issue if you could point me in that direction I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thank you,

When you say this problem is solved, I am not sure what you mean. This morning I divided two files of scanned holiday snaps using Photoshop Elements 6, basically copying and cropping an A4 into 4 photographs. The first file imported into iPhoto without a problem, but none of the second file would either as a group or individually, coming up with the "unsupported file type". All were the same .jpeg files. I tried fixing the permissions, but this did nothing. I noticed that 3 of the 32 said they were Photoshop JPEG's in the version information and tried saving them using preview and overwriting the originals, but this didn't work. The ones that said they were mere JPEG's still wouldn't import on their own. I know Apple and Adobe aren't great friends at the moment but this is something they should seriously sort out before they upset their loyal customers.
I see now that I will have to turn all my JPEG's into tiff's to get them to work, that's an exiting prospect, almost PC. Thanks A & A

  • Importing/converting DVD to .mov file for FCP

I had a friend give me a homemade DVD that I want to import/convert into a .mov file for editing in FCP. I've read the threads on MPEG Streamclip, but it asks to select the file(s) to import (vs one file). Not sure if I'm on the right track.
Here's what I see on the DVD:
    http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s63/jtnacc/ishot-4.jpg
    Any help would be appreciated.
    John

Hi Piero... Congrats man... your explanation is the best simple explanation of getting material off a DVD into a form where it can be editied in FCP.
Just to make it clear to anyone else...
1- go to http://www.squared5.com/ and download the FREE program MPEG STREAMCLIP.
Install it in your applications folder. Start Mpeg Streamclip, and insert the DVD into your drive.
2- Go to FILE > OPEN and use that to navigate to the DVD, look in the video_ts file and select the first .vob file of a series, e.g. VTS010.VOB; you'll be asked if you want to open all files of that stream, and you answer yes. You'd better also apply the command Edit/Remove Timecode Breaks before exporting.
This takes a minute or three depending on how much material ois on the DVD.
3 - Now go to the Mpeg Streamclip command line and select **Export to QuickTime** (NOT Export to DV)
    Use these settings :
    Compression: Apple DV-PAL (DV-PAL for UK/Europe, or Apple DV-DVCPRO/NTSC), Quality: 100%,
fps: 25 for PAL or 29,97 for NTSC,
    Audio: uncompressed, Stereo, 48 KHz.
    AND hit go !
Mpeg Streamclip will promt you to name the new file name and a location for saving.
This can take a minute for every minute of material.. so is a slow process.
I decided to use the "in" and "out" markers on Mpeg Streamclip to define smaller chunks of the DVD to convert at a time... rather than risk it running for 40 minutes and crashing (which it did first time). If you're ripping the DVD for editing purposes then this should not cause any problems.
Once it's finished, go to the save location, and you should see a Quicktime movie with the name you gave it.
You can now go into FCP and IMPORT this Qtime move and edit it.
    MARVELOUS
Thanks again Piero - this has really helped me
