Importing *.CR2 files to Lightroom 3.6 - support of Canon EOS 70D

Hi,
try to import *.CR2 files from my new camera Canon EOS 70D to Lightroom 3.6, but it is not supporting format. What to do? Can anyone help me. Thanks a lot for your answers, yours Petr.

The DNG files are mainly supported by Adobe software. The CR2 files would be for any software that knows how to deal with 70D raw files and so the right answer for you depends on whether you feel you’ll want to use the raw data in other software or not, and what you feel you want decades from now if Adobe or Canon no longer exist. Personally, I’d just upgrade to LR 5.2 and not worry about DNGs, but I also already have compatible hardware so am not hit by having to upgrade my OS or hardware.

Lightroom 5.2 vs. Canon EOS 70D RAW

Hello,
I am testing the trial version of Lightroom 5.2. My new camera is a Canon EOS 70D. When importing RAW files into Lightroom the colors of some photos are wrong. RAWs from my older 450D are fine.
For example on one photo the sky isn't blue but turquoise. When using the DNG Converter I get the same color. The sky was blue though. When opening the file in Digital Photo Professional by Canon, the sky is blue as it should be.
It happens on some other photos as well. Mostly if they have a high blue content. If in Lightroom I increase the blue content and decrease the shades it almost looks as it should.
The question now is: am I doing something wrong, do I need an update or additional plugins or is Lightroom simply interpreting the RAW wrong and will it be solved soon?

I managed to calibrate my monitors with a friend's hardware calibrator. The display of the photo in LR didn't change much. Still way too greenish sky.
Now I noticed that depending on the export option in LR (sRGB, aRGB, ProPhoto) I get pretty different colors in the exported JPEG files if I view them in IrfanView. None of them looks like the original that I see in LR. Funnily I noticed when writing this post that all exported images in the browser look the same - as each other and as in LR. looking at the LR-exports in LR they look the same - greenish sky. Looking at the LR-exports in DPP they look the same - blue sky. I managed to set IrfanView to enable color management with current monitor profile. Now I get the same view in LR, Irfanview and Firefox. I guess that's a plus. Furthermore I found an option in DPP to use the monitor profile - the sky looks a litlle green but there are differences to LR still.

Now that I managed to get the photos to look (almost) the same in all the applications that I use (FF, LR, IV being the most important) and having the monitors calibrated I can go back to my original question.
How comes that the sky looks so green although it wasn't when I shot the photo? Are there any more settings that I can make to get the colors on import better? Can I simply and with good conscience move my sliders now so that the image looks the way I like it and others will see it the same way (mainly on a website)?
Edit: Actually they only look green when writing the post. When looking at the finished post they look blue to me. Which is not what I saw in all my programs before. I am a little lost with how colors work I guess. I'd appreciate any hints.
Edit 2: When clicking on the images in this post they have the original color.

Why am I unable to import CR2 files into Lightroom ?

When I try to import a CR2 file I receive a response that the files are not recognized by the raw format support in Lightroom.
I have downloaded the latest version.
I'm using a Canon 7D Mark II

Click on help and at the bottom of the context menu you should see:
About Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7.1
That is the latest version.
Otherwise, if you installed through a Creative Cloud subscription launch CC desktop and install the latest version of Lightroom from there.
If you have a stand-alone purchased version of LR5 go to:

RAW support for Canon EOS 70D in Lightroom 4.

I have LR 4 and now I have bought a Canon 70D. Lightroom said it was unable to interpret the RAW files and directed me to get an update. I have updated to 4.4 and still have the same problem. How can I get my RAW files into Lightroom 4?

That camera was added in Lightroom 5.2. Download the trial version and give it a try. Then you can purchase from Adobe and they will send you a serial number. All you have to do is activate the trial version. The trial version will be 5.3, so your camera will be supported. You can use it for 30 days without restriction. You can purchase your serial number any time during that period. You can install the trial version and try it without interfering with your present Lightroom installation at all.There is no risk, both versions run independently. You can remove Lightroom 4 whenever you decide to.

Can't open cr2 files in Elements 11 - win 7 64 - canon eos M2

I can't open my cr2 files in Elements or in Corels Aftershot Pro2. They open in Canon's digital photo pro but that's not much help.
Any ideas?

The technical problem is that the ACR module is not totally an independent module you could update without updating the whole Elements version. If you look at the list of required ACR version for different Elements versions, you can see that the ACR version may be updated to a certain point, but that may depend on your OS version. Adobe's solution with the DNGconverter has pros and cons. It's an additional step, yes, but when you deal with large batches, it's less of a problem. Also some may find the DNG conversion useful. My raw files are 32 GB, when converted to DNG they are reduced in size and the time to open them is reduced. I like the ability to 'lossly compress' them, which is a much better solution than saving to jpeg.

I have tried importing directly from the camera, and also from an external hard drive that I managed to download the photos onto. I am new to Lightroom so any simple suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Also I am working on a Mac. Thanks!

I have a 450D and the files open just fine in LR5.
Is this your first attempt at using LR or your first attempt at developing CR2 files?
It sounds like your raw files may be corrupted or there is some permission problem that is preventing LR from reading the files.
Can you upload one of these unrecognized files to http://www.dropbox.com/ and post a public download link to it, for others to test?
Also try copying just one CR2 file to your internal drive and see if that imports, in case there is some problem with the permissions on the external drive. Just use Finder to copy the file, not LR, in case that is an issue.

Lightroom 5.4 not importing cr2 files over a network?

Well, this is unfortunate.
Brand new iMac, just out of the box, OS updated.
Brand new Adobe CC subscription, everything updated.
Neither Lightroom 5.4 or Photoshop CC can import CR2 files stored on my NAS.
The Mac connects to the NAS just fine. I can see the photos and copy them to my new PC, but can't import.
I know LR doesn't allow storing CATALOGS on a network, but I've never had problems with the original raw files stored there.
Any advice?

Solved it!
I'm not sure why it makes a difference, but once I mounted the network folder and gave it an alias on the desktop, LR5.4 was able to import.

Can't import CR2 Files

Hi - I just started working with RAW files on my Canon Rebel and am having a hard time importing to Lightroom 5. I did go to preferences and check the box to treat RAW as separate photos. I imported several photos from iPhoto and both the JPG and RAW files appeared (actually that was a hassle because most of the CR2's weren't checked so I had to find them and some of the JPG's appeared twice). After I completed my editing I went back to my original pics in iPhoto and wanted to import a few more. I tried to drag the jpg and cr2 file into Lightroom and 2 photos import but they are both jpg - one is 545 JPG and the other is 545-2 JPG. I can't get the CR2 to import which is what I really want. Does anyone have any ideas?

That is why you’re getting duplicates JPGs because iPhoto only presents a JPG for raw files to outside programs.
To get CR2s from iPhoto into LR you’ll need to export them from iPhoto. I’m a PC user so I can’t tell you what to do from personal experience but Adobe has a help page detailing a process:

Bonjour, comment puis je importer dans Lightroom 4.4 des images Raw CR2 prises avec mon Canon EOS 70D?
Actuellement je n'obtiens qu'un message qui me dit "Aperçu non disponible pour ce fichier. Je croyais qu'Adobe avait mis à jour Lightroom depuis aout 2013.
Dois je systématiquement convertir le format en DNG ou JPG ou bien dois je acheter Lightroom 5 ?

Can't import TIFF files to Lightroom

I shot in TIFF + JPEG last night but when I try to import to Lightroom, it doesn't give me a preview of the photos and then says it can't import them. Even if it doesn't like TIFF (which would be strange to me), if they saved in JPEG why can't it find those files?

Ah yes, good point. Then I can sort by file type and move straight onto the hard drive. Sorry should have thought of that myself. Just tried again. I've realised I said TIFF when I meant RAW (.CR2 files). Lightroom says it won't take them and suggests getting a newer version. Will that work?

Problems importing raw files into Lightroom 3.4

I've just dowloaded lightroom 3.4 and now I'm having problems importing raw files into lightroom. I havent had a problem before. Can anyone help me? My camera is a Nikon D7000.

PSE6.0 organizer import CR2 files results in 'no preview'

When I import Canon CR2 files from my camera using the PSE Organizer (Windows "import with PSE6") I often get no RAW preview/thumbnails; a thumbnail is created for some of the imported RAW pictures but most of them not. When I have opened the picture (camera raw 5.3 start by double click, and close) in most cases a thumbnail is created and displayed. This shouldn't be necessary, I suppose ????
Does someone know this bug and how to fix it?

So, now I have to buy PSE 7? Isn't there a cheap(er) upgrade possibility? After all, it is a bug in PSE6. PSE7 costs almost as much as a 'new' / first install version, isn't it.
I would love to have the latest version, mostly not for the new features but mainly for bug fixes and/or performance enhancements.

Why do I get an error importing .mov files in Lightroom 4.2 RC

I have Lightroom 4.2 RC on a Windows 7 desktop and laptop. Mov files from a Nikon D4 import fine on the desktop, but I get an error importing the same files on my laptop and they get skipped. My laptop is actually newer and more powerful than my desktop.

I was getting this message: "There is a problem with the video file" when attempting to import video files on Lightroom 4.1 (and after upgrading to 4.2) on Win7/64-bit.
The video files were M-JPEG/AVI and H.264/MP4.
Seeing a recommendation elsewhere, I uninstalled DivX and rebooted.
This resolved the issue for me!

I can't import raw files into lightroom

I have been using lightroom 4. I shoot with a nikon d300s. I recently used a nikon D610 and now it says preview not available. It also says the the raw images aren't able to import. So I recently upgraded to Lightroom 5 and it still says preview not available. I need some suggestions on how to import them.

I don't use nikon software. I just use lightroom. I just got lightroom 5. I tried to update to 5.3 but couldn't find the location where to find it.
