Importing CR2/RAW from Canon EOS 20d

Hi!
I shoot RAW-files with my camera and recently bought Lightroom. My problem is that I can´t import my RAW files directly from the camera (Canon EOS 20d). I open the File meny < Import photos from device, but Lightroom can´t find any pictures on my camera although I know there are RAW files there. When I first import my photos to my harddrive and then import them into Lightroom it works fine but I wanna skip the extra import-step and just take the photos directly from my camera into Lightroom. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?
(I have updated Lightroom to 2.4 and uses the most updated firmware to my camera.)

Ok, thanks. I looked at other similar problems on the forum and they also recommend a card reader so I guess I just have to go and buy me one. If anyone do know a solution to the problem without a card reader I would be very glad to hear about it. I mean, the Canon EOS 20d is a pretty common camera although it is a "little" old by now. But like you also mentioned, it could also be the OS update...
Friendly regards
/J

  • How open raw from canon eos 70D in elements 11

I cannot open raw from canon eos 70D in photoshop elements 11. Help me please.

Your PSE is too old—the camera was released after a newer version of software was available and Adobe only adds new camera support to the newest version of software.
Specifically, the 7D Mark II needs ACR 8.7 and PSE12 can only be updated to ACR 8.5.
    Your choices are to:
Use the DNG Converter 8.7 or newer to create DNGs from the CR2s and those DNGs will open in the older version of ACR that comes with PSE12, OR
Buy the newer version of Element 13 that can be updated to a new enough Adobe Camera Raw plugin.
The DNG Converter is available from the Adobe Updates page:
    http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates
And the newer version of Elements is available from the Adobe Products page:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/catalog/software.html
Another option would be to use Lightroom 5.7 or newer and use Edit in Photoshop Elements from LR once most of your raw adjustments are done, for any final touches in Elements.
For any of these choices you’d want to download the latest updates and run the software in trial mode to make sure your computer is compatible before paying anything.
BTW, I have the 7D Mark II and like it very much, having upgraded from an older Digital Rebel, but I’m not that thrilled with the in-camera JPG processing so always use Adobe products for raw development.

  • IPOD Camera Connector download from Canon EOS 20D

Having problems tranferring from Canon EOS 20D. Although Apple say it is compatable all I get is Unsupported device. Any Idea's...

    No worries Paul & Sam,
Unplug everthing, soft reset your iPod, connect the camera connector to your card reader and put your card in the reader before you plug it in the iPod, then connect it, let the iPod find everything and then import photo's if this doesn't work try this below:
The Belkin Reader i've got has this model number. F5U249ea if you've got the same one, it's powered off the iPod, the 60gb model should be no different. Have you got the latest iPod update installed. If you have all i can say make sure everything on your iPod is still on your computer, completely restore your iPod with the latest iPod update, then connect everything together again, if this still does'nt work, i'm not sure what you can do? i'll try and find some more info for you but try everything i've said first and i'm sure you'll get everything to work fine.
Let me know how you get on, i'll try and figure out what happened

  • IPhoto '08 won't import RAWs from Canon EOS 450D

I did install the "Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 2.1", but even so, I am not able to import RAW images from my Canon EOS 450D, only jpgs. The error message I get is:
"The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)."
How do I solve this? The camera is brand new. Is a firmware reflash in order? How?
    Anyone else experience this?

Try using Image Capture to upload the files to the desktop and then import from there.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Photoshop Elements cannot open Camera RAW from Canon EOS 7D Mark ii

I just bought Canon EOS 7D mark ii camera.  I have Photoshop Elements 12.  The program is unable to open RAW images. The message is "the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by installed version of camera Raw".
I downloaded 8.7.1 plugin but that is also not able to open the image.

You need Adobe camera raw version 8.7 Unfortunately your software pre-dates the camera. ACR 8.7 is only compatible with PSE13. But it is possible to download and install the free DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the DNG files will open in PSE12 (keep your CR2's as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.7.1
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.7.1
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • CR2 files from Canon EOS 7D

I am attempting to download pictures from my Canon EOS 7D and it will download only 2 of the 111 I hae on the memory card and claims the ramining 109 are in an incompatible CR2 format.  The two pictures it is downloading are also in the same CR2 file format & I've used this same exact camera half a hundred times to download into iPhoto using exclusively the CR2 RAW format (most recently as of last night & it worked just fine then), so I can't figure out why all the sudden it's refusing to work.  Anybody have any ideas on a fix?
Note: I have iPhoto version 9.5.1 & OSX 10.9.2.  Both fully upgraded.

It ould be a glitch on the card.
Can you access them with Image Capture (in the Applications Folder)?

  • Download to iphoto from Canon EOS 20D

All my previous Canon cameras enabled me to import into iphoto. Now with 20D the Canon software uses image browser & EOS utility & I dont know how to download from these to iphoto. Grateful if someone could tell me how. Thanks.

Go to iPhoto>Preferences. There's an option called "Connecting Cameras Open:" Choose iPhoto instead of the other programmes. The next time when you connect a camera iPhoto should open automatically.

  • Will LR3.6 support RAW from Canon EOS 5D Mk3?

Or do I have to upgrade to LR4 to work with RAW on 5d mk3?

On the official Adobe blogs it has been stated that 3.6 will be the last version of 3.x cycle.  3.6 does not support the 5DMKIII files.
    Options:
    1. Upgrade to LR 4
    2. Use the free DNG Converstion tool to convert your CR2 files to DNG's that are backwards compatible with LR's older versions.

  • LR 5.2 won't import CR2 images from canon 6d

the message is - "the following files were not imported because they cannot be read"
tried direct from a folder i created on my desktop - same same

    thx in advance

It means that you don't have WRITE permission to the destination folder where the photos are supposed to go. Change your permissions!

  • Import raw images from canon eos 1000d to aperture 3

Raw images from Canon EOS 1000D appear garbled tried using  all (?) import methods without success. Camera on firmware version 1.0.7
    HELP!
    Geoff

Running Aperture Trial 3.1.2  all updates completed.
May have solved one problem & got another!
I can now import RAW images by selecting 'Raw' rather than 'Raw + L' on camera menu. This leaves me with all large files - potential future storage problem.  Looking into this.
    Thanks for reply though

  • I am trying to import CR2 files from my canon 450D.  Lightroom 5 won't let me. Help please!!

I am trying to import CR2 files from my canon 450D into Lightroom 5.  Lightroom says 'preview unavailable for this file'.  I cannot get past this.  I have tried importing directly from the camera, and also from an external hard drive that I managed to download the photos onto.  I am new to Lightroom so any simple suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!  Also I am working on a Mac.  Thanks!

I have a 450D and the files open just fine in LR5.
Is this your first attempt at using LR or your first attempt at developing CR2 files?
It sounds like your raw files may be corrupted or there is some permission problem that is preventing LR from reading the files.
Can you upload one of these unrecognized files to http://www.dropbox.com/ and post a public download link to it, for others to test?
Also try copying just one CR2 file to your internal drive and see if that imports, in case there is some problem with the permissions on the external drive.  Just use Finder to copy the file, not LR, in case that is an issue.

  • Raw import .cr2 files with Canon SX1

    Hello !
Should Aperture be abble to import .cr2 raw files ?
If so , why can'nt I do it with my new SX1 from Canon ?
    Thanks
    Marcel Jacques

In the meantime try Adobe Digital Negative Converter (DNG converter): http://www.adobe.com/products/dng/ not positive it will be compatible with the SX1 CR2, but Aperture will read the converted DNG. The concept is that although these proprietary formats may come and go, the DNG format is here to stay for Decades to come. +worth a shot+!

  • Canon EOS 20D, iPhoto, and import

To hook a Canon EOS 20D to iPhoto, you must set its communications mode to "PTP"
    Here's how:
    1. Press the "Menu" button on the back of the camera.
    2. Scroll down to "Communication"
    3. Click the "Set" button.
    4. Scroll to "PTP" (and not the default, "Normal")
    5. Click the "Set" button again.
    6. Click the "Menu" button again to exit the menu.
Now iPhoto will recognize and import from the 20D as it should.
I post this because I just got the thing to work! Hope it helps someone.

Use the Canon software that came with your camera to download photos to your computer, review those and select the ones you want in iPhoto then use iPhoto to import the wanted photos.

  • Trouble importing RAW from Canon 50D to Lightroom 3.3

I've searched the forum and can't find much reference to this -- I shoot with a Canon 50 in RAW format only.  When I attempt to import from the camera (File -> Import Photos then select Canon EOS 50D as source) into lightroom 3.3 (same with 3.1, 3.2), no photos appear in the import window.
As an experiment, when I changed the format to JPEG, the JPEG photos appeared in the dialog as I would expect.
My operating system is Windows 7 64 and I am using Lightroom 3.3 64-bit version.  In the help menu under the version is says "Camera Raw 6.3"  On the 50D the Raw format is set to "Raw" rather than S-Raw-1 or S-Raw-2.
I am able to import the photos by importing through the Canon utility and then importing those photos into Lightroom.
Any help you can give would be appreciated.  File management is starting to become an issue.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the replies.
First, I don't have a card reader and yes, I probably should get one eventually.  To clarify, import is not slow, it simply does not even attempt to import.  When I connect my 50D with a card full of RAW files, LR detects it but it shows "No Photos Found."  I honestly don't think that it is LR's fault, it really seems like there is some obvious setting I have missed on either my camera or LR.
    Thanks.
