Importing CS4 Workspace into CS5?

In AE CS5, is there any way to use a workspace I created in CS4? In PPro, all I had to do was open a CS4 project in CS5 with the "Import Workspace from Projects" enabled and the old workspace is now available. Is there something similar in AE or do I have to recreate my workspaces from scratch?

I haven't tried this, but it should work.(I'm typing this on a computer that doesn't have both versions installed, but I'll test this soon.)
The workspaces are stored in a set of preferences files. You should be able to copy them from the CS4 (9.0) directory to the CS5 (10.0) directory.
As with all of the preferences, these files are here:
(Mac OS) <drive>/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/10.0
(Windows) <drive>\AppData\Roaming\<username>\Adobe\After Effects\10.0
If this doesn't work, there's little risk, because you can always just delete the files in the preferences folder and restart After Effects, and it will recreate the default preferences, including the workspaces.

Importing CS4 Project into CS5.5

Can't get playback to the monitor from the timeline is the main issue (using a BMD HD Extreme I/O card). I can double click the video files in the bin and get playback to the monitor, but not from the timeline. The CS4 project is a 4 x 3 SD project. So far, I've simply double clicked the CS4 project file to open the project in CS5.5. Nothing. And, I've opened a new project in CS5.5 with the settings exactly as they were in the CS4 project. Nothing. I've made certain all tracks are active, etc.
Anyone have advice on this?

I should add that after setting up the CS5.5 project with settings matching the CS4 project, I imported the CS4 project into it. Again, no playback to the monitor.

Porting of CS4 Plugin into CS5 on Mac 10.6

Hello All,
I am new to Photoshop and I am trying to Port the CS4 Plugin into CS5. On Mac OS 10.5 it gets compiled properly without any major changes but the menus does not load into Photoshop menus. On Mac OS 10.6 I am facing the proplem comiling the code itself.
Can any one help me on this. What wrong I am doing or have I missed anything. I also tried to compare my code with Outboud Sample project. There is no major difference. Still why is it not getting loaded?

What platform are you compiling to and what platform is your machine?
Check your .r file and your PiPL resource and your configuration.
Are the the CS5 SDK projects working when you run them on Photoshop CS5?
You should have something like this in your PiPL resource.

Problem importing Premier Pro CS4 files into CS5

I have loaded Premier Pro CS5 onto a spanking new 64 bit machine. When I import a CS4 project file into CS5, it asks me to locate the raw video files but nothing else. All titles with graphics in them are without the graphics. The text is OK. The graphics have disappeared. How do I import a project so the titles are complete and don't have to be rebuilt? .

Can you please give your system specs?
In particular, how many physical HDD you have as well as memory. OS, CPU etc.
Also - what are the scratch disc settings in Premiere?
Finally - what is the video type - SD? HD?
Please give as many details as possible as it sounds like your system is going into overdrive.

Media offline (but not first clip) when import cs4 project to cs5

I've several clips in a cs4 project. All original clips, all from the same footage, are in the proper folder. When I imported the project into my fresh cs5 install, the first clip shows up properly -- video and audio are present -- but the rest in the sequence show "media offline." When I search for the clip and select it to be linked, I'm informed that "The selected files do not contain audio media used by clip references in one or more sequences." Clicking yes then gives me a clip in the project resources and timeline windows with no sound.
This makes no sense, since all clips are from the same source footage. If the first clip in the sequence is fine, what's the problem? Thanks for your help.

I figured out what has happened. The clips were all from same original source, but somehow some had audio coded in mp2, others in mp3. The first clip was mp3 and Premiere CS5 version spotted that codec. For some reason PCS5 is not spotting the mp2 codec, while CS4 could, which is why I didn't have this problem back then.
The initial "media offline" message is terribly misleading, and the audio problem message is not specific enough. I'll try to get CS5 to use the mp2 codec CS4 worked with.

Just to confuse things more, It's worth noting that the mp2 clips show up in Bridge cs5 and the audio plays fine there. What's with Premiere Pro? Irritating.

Installer Problems - PS CS4 Extended into CS5 Extended

A couple of weeks after I upgraded to CS4 Extended, CS5 Extended was released, and Adobe was nice enough to 'grandfather' me into an upgrade.
However, when I install, it doesn't work. It asks for 'eligible' upgrade products, and while CS4 is on the list, CS4 Extended is NOT...????
So am I out of luck? Am I doing something wrong here? Why would someone be eligible to upgrade from CS4 to CS5 Extended, but not from CS4 extended to CS5 Extended.
This is one of these frustrations that really gets you...because I know that in my neighborhood there are probably already ten people using CS5 Extended, and the only reason they can is that they're unethical and using a cracked version.
How do I get around this? I'm running in 'trial' now

If it asks just for "Photoshop CS4", then according to Adobe's own linguistics this would cover both versions. in that case inputting the serial would be the only differentiation criteria. If it doesn't work, then call support. You may have been given a wrong serial and only they can handle this. This is a user forum, after all...

Trouble getting audio files when importing R3D files into CS5.5 Prem Pro

Importing R3D files into Premiere Pro CS5.5 works for Video but the audio doesn't convert properly.   There is an audio file included in the R3D file that PP can see but it just has a few spikes.
This same file played in REDcine-X plays the video/audio just fine.   Is there some audio setting in Premiere Pro that I should be setting?
Oddly enough if I use REDcine-X to output a RED Trim file and then import it into PP, the audio file is shown separately and is imported correctly.   This of course involves a file conversion step in the workflow and a step that we are hoping to avoid.

Can`t manage my custom workspaces in CS5 Ai after importing CS4 workspaces

Here is the folder I pasted my workspaces in from CS4
on XP to Ai CS5 on WIN7
then a screenshot of what my CS5 Ai workspace drop down list looks like...
and last a screen shot of the manage workspace dialogue box...
When I choose manage workspaces from that workspace list in Ai, it doesnt allow me to move my custom workspaces to the top of the list where the two topmost workspaces are ?

i`m trying to get my CS5 prefs copied from XP to be manageable on CS5 for windows 7.
Originally I copy pasted my workspaces from Ai cs4 on XP to Ai CS5 on XP which worked fine,
then from there to Ai CS5 on Win7 into I believe the correct folder below, presets/workspaces, so it intermingled with the default CS5 workspace settings.
However on win7 they show up in the workspaces menu allright in mixed order, but not in the personal custom sets which are supposed to appear separately at the top of the workspaces drop down menu..
the result being when I choose "manage workspaces" I only get the following..not all my custom workspaces are showing..

You should be able to recall my posted 'rant', a couple months back when I found I could not import my CS3 project into CS4 without 'errors' that rendered the project untenable in CS4. Both forum users and Tech support advised me to purchase, 'No Problems', then implied error on my part when it didn't - further compounding my aggravation. Tech Support's story changed from 'No Problems' to 'serious errors can occur in some instances' & Adobe refused to refund me until I got my state's ombudsman involved. Now my case may just be 'some instance' but I suffered a lot of emotion and wasted a lot of time. Before you spend the dollars, please, download the trial version and test it with your specific projects.

Trouble Importing One JPEG into CS5

I am trying to import a 582 KB JPEG into PP CS5 but keep getting an alert saying "There is not enough memory to import the requested file(s)." Odd thing is that I have no problem doing so with other JPEGs, most of which are much larger. Why is that?

While I don't think this is the error message you'd get, please open the .jpg in Photoshop and verify that it is RGB and not CMYK format. Also, re-save it to another format such as .PNG and see if it will open in Premiere then.

Can't Import PlayClaw5 videos into CS5.5 on Mac

Hello everyone. My friend and I have begun using Premiere Pro: He is using CC, and I'm using CS5.5. He uses PlayClaw5 to record his videos, which records in an .AVI format. HE can open in in his Premiere Pro, but when I do it for me, it says that the File format ISN'T supported. Not "There are codecs missing" or "This is the wrong type of AVI file", just Not supported. I've read all over the internet, installing codec left and right, trying to get it to work. I'm running Mac by the way, so maybe that has something to do with it. Anyway, I thought about re-encoding the videos into mp4 through the Media Encoder, but that doesn't support it either. I've tried NUMEROUS video converters, but it makes the resolution all wonky. (It's pretty wonky to begin with at 1920x1018 with a 1.886 pixel aspect ratio). So, I'm hoping someone has an answer here. Help?

Where do I paste my CS4 keyboardshortcuts & workspaces into WIN7/photoshop CS5?

Ok I backed up my presets, keyboard shortcuts and workspaces from XP / photoshop CS4,
looking to paste them into Windows 7 & PS CS5.
I individually updated each folder in presets into CS5 as there were 30 folders all up in presets compared to 24 in cs5. Thats fine,
my problem is with keyboard shortcuts & workspaces...
here`s where I believe they would go, but not sure which folder exactly?
2 questions:
do I paste my custom workspaces into basic1- workspaces, or 2- task based workspaces??
The presets folder no longer has a folder titled "keyboard shortcuts", so where do I put my KBshortcuts?
** May I suggest Adobe provide the upgrade user a text file or readme file explaining where these backed up presets and shortcuts,workspaces should go in the next version of the software, would be very helpful. Especially if microsoft have released a new system also, xp, win2000 to vista to win7 etc.
I always find it stressful doing these upgrades and it delays my upgrade decision.

Now I opened the project in CS5 but cannot find the menu set I made in CS4.
How can I import the menu set from CS4 into CS5?

Menu saved location is different for CS4 and CS5.
You can save the menu as menu file or menu template from
Menu -> Save menu as file or save menu as template.
Or
you can copy you menu set from CS4 to CS5.
Below is the location where menu set saved -
