Importing Data and Albums

I'm having a problem getting the albums and data associated with a photo library to import into iPhoto 5. If I hold down the option key and open the folder "iPhoto Library", not all of the images appear and many are gray boxes or improperly oriented. If I drag and drop the folder "iPhoto Library" into iPhoto, all of the images appear and look fine, but I don't get the associated data and albums. I also get error messages saying that the data files could not be imported. This problem started when I renamed my original library, opened a second library, and then tried to go back to the original.
Rich

Hi richard,
I see you are using the Option key to launch iPhoto and switch between libraries.
Maybe the first library (original) is having a data problem. The first thing is make sure the original library is the one you are using right now. Now follow the instructions for a rebuild and hopefully it will help.
Try this:
Before doing a rebuild make sure iPhoto's trash bin is emptied. You can do this by control clicking on the trash bin, or from the menu bar under iPhoto.
Close iPhoto
Duplicate the iPhoto Library folder
Drag the duplicate to the desktop (hopefully you have enough room on your hard drive for the duplicate.)
Launch iPhoto holding down the Command and Option keys until you see the rebuild options screen.
Choose the first three options. If you were missing photos in your library, also choose the last option. Be advised that you will get a roll of orphaned photos and it might be quite huge. Most of them will already be in your iPhoto library, but use caution when deleting anything from this roll until you are sure the photos are still in your library in another place. It might be a good idea to share/export this roll of photos just in case you need to import them again.
Back to the rebuild, depending on the size of your library it might take some time. When it is done, hopefully your photos will be there.
You might see some unexpected results as I did when I did a rebuild. Photos had been moved to wrong dates, video clips had lost their duration info and some were even orphaned from the jpg pointer file. It took me some time to straighten it out again.
This is the reason to make a duplicate before you rebuild, in case you do not like the result. If you don't like the result, close iPhoto, then delete the rebuilt library and drag the duplicate back into the Pictures folder making sure the name is iPhoto Library. Launch iPhoto and it should open the library in the Pictures folder.

I have a password problem. After importing data and settings from one MacBook Pro to a new one, I have to put my iCloud password in when re-starting the new computer, but the password from the old computer in when waking the computer from sleep. I want to use my iCloud password on both computers consistently. How can I fix this?

The only other place to change a password for the computer login is in Users & Groups preferences. But I don't really know enough here to fix your problem. You can try fixing the keychain:
iCloud- Frequently asked questions about iCloud Keychain
    Tutorial: Resolving Keychain Issues
If you can't access your keychain, or forget your password If you can't get into your keychain file because you've forgotten your password or the keychain file appears to be corrupt, there are a couple of options.
First, if you've forgotten your password, you can use the "Keychain First Aid" utility to make the keychain password the same as the login password. This can be accomplished via the following process:
      1. Open Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Preferences"
      3. Click the "First Aid" tab
      4. Make sure the "Synchronize login keychain password" box is checked
      5. Close the Preferences window
      6. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Keychain First Aid"
      7. Enter your username and password
      8. Click the "Repair" button
The second option is to completely delete your keychain then recreate it. This routine is useful if your keychain appears to be corrupt or otherwise inaccessible. This can be accomplished as follows:
      1. Launch Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Click "Show Keychains" in the lower-left corner of the window.
      3. Select the problematic keychain from the left-hand pane.
      4. Navigate to the "File" menu and select "Delete Keychain '(name of keychain)'"
      5. Check all options for deletion and press "OK"
      6. Create a new keychain by going to the "File" menu, then "New" and selecting
          "New Keychain"
      7. You can now make this keychain your default if you desire by selecting it, then
going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make '(name of keychain)' Default"
Login as root and perform repair In some cases, problems with keychains can only be resolved when logged in as the root user.
First, you want to enable the root user:
      1. OS X Mountain Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      2. OS X Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      3. Mac OS X 10.6: Enabling the root user
      4. Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X
After enabling the root user, and logging in under this account, again open Keychain Access. First attempt repairs using Keychain First Aid, and failing that, delete then recreate the keychain as described above while logged in as root.
Persistently asked for stored passwords If you are persistently asked for passwords in various applications that you have specified should be remembered in a keychain, your "login" keychain may not be active for one reason or another.
Navigate to ~/Library/Keychains/ (this is the Library folder inside your user's home folder). Find the file named "login.keychain" and double-click it.
Failing that, select the "login" keychain within the Keychain Access application and make sure it is the default keychain by going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make 'Login' Default"
Turn off Keychain synchronization in applications having problems If specific applications are experiencing issues when accessing password-protected material, the Keychain may be to blame.
The above comes from an article published on MacFixit.com.

  • Why is the folder strukture based on the import date, and not on the Creation date? How can i setting this?

Why is the folder strukture based on the import date, and not on the Creation date? How can i setting this?

    What folder structure?
If you're referring to how Aperture stores the originals in a managed library then the answer is you can't change it.
If having the originals stored in a specific file structure is important to you you will need to switch to a referenced original setup.

If you forgot (or don't know) your passcode, restore the device from backup on the last computer it was synced with when the passcode was turned on... this will remove the passcode. If you do not have access to the last computer it was synced with, or you don't have a backup, you will have to force it into recovery mode & restore as a new device.

  • How can I import keywords and albums from iphoto 5?

I have new imac with iPhoto 7.1. I'd like to import the keywords and albums along with the pics from my old imac and iphoto 5. Photos import, but not tags or albums. Any suggestions?

    Roy
The trick is not to import, but to update.
Copy the library from the old mac to the new one, then hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. Select 'Choose Library' and point iPhoto at this old one and it will update it to a v7 library, including albums and keywords.
If you already have a new library on your new machine, then use iPhoto Library Manager to merge them or to move the pics from the older to the newer.

  • Ldif2db command fails to import data and deletes the root node

ldif2db command fails to import data into LDAP.
    The command used was
    ldif2db -n userRoot -s "dc=example,dc=com" -i test.ldif
The test.ldif conains the nodes under dc=example,dc-com
    eg: ou=test,dc=example,dc=com
But on executing the command the root node "dc=example,dc=com" itself got deleted. The console output was like "Skipping entry uid=test001,ou=test,dc=example,dc=com" for all the entries present in ldif.
What might be the reason for this ? Any clues ?
The reason y i am trying to do this ldif2db is to preserve the createtimestamp and modifytimestamp while migrating data from one Directory Server to another. Any other ways of doing it ?

ldif2db is the right command to migrate data and preserve those attributes like createtimestamp and modifytimestamp.
However, when this command is used, it will first remove everthing before it load whatever you want. So you need to be very careful. I got this terrible problem as well.
In my experience, if you use this command, don't use "-s". You can just use:
    ldif2db -n suffixName -i test.ldif
If you only have one suffix (database), then you can use "-n userRoot".
Also, if you migrate your data from server A to server B, you'd better dump the data using db2ldif -n userRoot -a test.ldif from server A. Then load it into server B using ldif2db -n userRoot -i test.ldif.

  • Import data and cofiles via stms

    Hi all,
I would like to import some data and cofiles via stms in my MiniSAP.
Only tables are imported without problems. Programs, transactions or other files of the package will not imported.
The imported objects will be not activate automatically.
The return code of my package is (0 = green), the status of the import stay at "Import continue".
    Can anyone help me, please.
    Thank you very much.

    Hi,
Whenever a transport request get released it generates two files automatically at the OS level,ie at the transport directory normally /usr/sap/trans.These two files are called cofiles & datafiles and it gets generated at /usr/sap/trans/cofiles & /usr/sap/trans/data respectivley.Cofiles are the control files and data is the actual data file.
You can execute the transports only when you have these datafiles & cofiles available at your tarnsport directory.
If you want to do the transport in other systems, you have to copy these files to the transport directory of the target system or also you can share the same transport directory across different systems.

  • Import data and ındexes diffrent tablespace

    Assume that
    I have tablespaces "user_data" and "index_data".
If I export the entıre schema
    and
import it into another database, all the data and index are stored in one tablespace. But they are in diffrent tablespaces in the source.
What should I do to ımport ındexes to diffrent tablespace?
    Oracle 10g

In Import, there's an parameter "indexfile".
    imp file=abc.dmp show=y indexfile=abc.sql fully=y
will generate a sql file with metadata definition.i.e. Table creation scripts/index creation scripts.
modify the script and change the tablespace names for the indexes and execute them.

  • Importing Library and albums from an other computer

    Hello everyone,
I just bought a new iMac and I am trying to import all my pictures from my old Powerbook.
What I did is to copy the old "iPhoto Library" (of the old computer) into the "Pictures" directory of the new computer.
This works fine, iPhoto updates the format of the iPhoto Library (I had an older version of iPhoto on the old computer) and all the pictures are there.
However, ALL THE ALBUM STRUCTURE that I created over numerous years IS COMPLETELY LOST.
The pictures are just all together in the library, so I should manually create all the albums again. That is a pain, it's more than 5,000 pictures.
Anyone knows how to import all the album structure from the old computer?
    Thanks a lot in advance!
    Guido

What you are describing is the correct procedure - just to verify you are dragging the iPhoto library as a single entity from the old computer to the new computer aren't you? That should work fine and converting from iPhoto 5 to iPhoto '09 is not a problem that I have seen reported (I have never done it) - your converted library should be identical to your old library including all books, albums, slideshows (there have been a few problems reported here - be sure you have version 8.0.2 before converting), etc.
You mention importing - there is no importing involved - just quit iPhoto on both machines and drag the iPhoto library across a network, a firewire target mode connection or to an EHD and to your your machine.
You might rebuild a copy of the library on the old computer and try the rebuilt one - although this does not sound like a library corruption issue, but it is worth a try

  • Numbers '08 importing data and merging data from address book .....

    HI all,
This is the time of year we have to tot-up all of our kilometers travelled to clients which is a real headache.
I am really keen to get this automated somehow and would be very grateful for some help.
    Here are the details:
We use the address book app as our client database which includes name, address and kilometers from our base.
We have an accounting appcilation which lists all invoices by name, includes a date and I could also input the km in here if needed.
I would like to create a spread sheet in numbers that will contain a list of all clients invoiced and the kms traveled to their place from our base.
I can get the client list by getting our accounting software to output the data in CSV format, then input the data into numbers, however, I have a couple of queeries regarding the kms values and the import process ....
    (a) firstly, I used to use in excel a very useful function of importing text from text edit, where I was able to choose what delimited a field, spaces, commas, even just width, does this also exist in Numbers? I have looked with no you.
    (b) next the kms values, is there any automated way to match the client names in my excel sheet and pull in the kms values from the address book field?
If not, they could be inputed into my accounting software each time I enter a record, it just means a bit more work for me on a daily basis.
Many thanks in advance for your thoughts on this. I'm sure there is a clever way of getting round this somehow ....

Feature unavailable in Numbers '09 too

Numbers have no provision to communicate with other applications.
With Numbers '09, we may fit the gap with AppleScript but there is no AppleScript support in Numbers '08.

  • Imported music and album artwork

i've just imported all of my music into my itune but i haven't got any of my artwrok and when i click download album artwork it says that it can't be found. what sould i do??

ID3 tags are not part of the podcasting structure, they are associated with the audio files that make up your podcast. If your audio file is an MP3 formatted file, you can use a tag editor like iTunes to add various "meta-data" descrptions to the file. The tags are part of the file, and players like iTunes or Windows Media Player read and display the tags. iTunes uses the tags to organize your music display.
So, when you create your podcast's audio file, you can probably add ID3 tags using the tool used to make the file. It probably added some by default.

  • ITunes is randomly deleting ID3 tags track number data and album artwork

A few weeks ago iTunes 10.5.3.3 starting deleting the amount of tracks available for an album and its artwork when I would play a song. Thus "4 of 12" would go to just "4". And in some cases the artwork I've had for years and years (since iTunes 6) is disappearing for an entire album when only one song is played as well. There is no pattern or any discernable reasoning of what tracks its choosing to do this with. It's really disheartening when you factor in all the time and effort involved  for nearly 10 years with making all of that data correct and adding customized artwork for 10,000+ songs for it to now just start disappearing randomly.
I suspect my iTunes database file is corrupt, however, how do you fix that without losing all of your Playlists, Artwork, etc.?
I've loved and had zero problems with this software until a few weeks ago. I'm a happy owner of multiple iPods for all this time and now this is disconcerting.

The missing total track count numbers strongly points to Windows Media Player. It has a nasty habit of "refreshing" the metadata when you didn't ask it to. This can happen even if you don't use the program as a rule as it may be launched in the background when viewing certain media content on the web. Next time iTunes has a reason to inspect the tag, e.g. during playback, it will reveal the new data from the tag. In essense the damages is already done but iTunes has yet to notice all of it.
For tips on getting WMP and iTunes to play nicely in future see this thread.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to compare your library with the contents of your media folders.
See this User Tip for a suggested backup strategy.

  • Import data in to tables for MySQL, DB2 and others

The documentation says that you can right click and select import data and import from a file. But apparently this doesn't work for MySQL, DB2 or other databases? Is that correct? There is no way to do mass data entry or editing of data?

Correct. We're trying to help you move data from MySQL, DB2, or other (non-Oracle) databases TO Oracle.

  • Import data - export and import tools

    Hi All,
I am trying to import a currency.csv file using the import data and i get this error - "import failed: Array index out of range: 3"
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Srinivas,
Make sure that the mapping values in the columns of the Currency.csv file are relevant:
    See example below.
Also, when you are importing the csv file, import it into the Currency object.

  • Are my rolls and albums confused?

The first half of the rolls in my library are showing completely the wrong photos. They are from a completely different time. The details on the roll are correct but when I open the roll it shows photos from 6 months later. The same with the albums. Can any one help me please. Thanks in advance.
    Adrian

IPhoto doesn't make things like this up on its own. Select one of those photos in iPhoto and press command-I. Photos are assigned to a "roll" based on the import date. Does the "imported" date not match the roll's date stamp?
The only "internal" event that might change that is a database rebuild that somehow finds that bit of information corrupted -- it would be replaced with the date of the rebuild (and placed on a corresponding new roll).
Other ways the import date (and hence, the roll) for a photo would change is if the photo(s) were exported, deleted from iPhoto, then imported again.
I don't think there is a third choice.
