Importing data from Photoshop Elements 5.0

Hi there,
I am currently using Photoshop Elements 5.0 and have about 25.000 pictures already in the application. I have tagged them all with keywords and put allot of work into it. Is there a way to import the pictures and the keyword (tags) into Iphoto so I don't loose all my previous work.
Thanks,
Eddie.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. It all depends if PSE writes the metadata to the proper ITPC fields in the file. Pick one photo with all of the metadata you'd use and import it to see what iPhoto does or does not read.
By the way this might be of use:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Will photoshop elements 12 import tags from photoshop elements 5

will photoshop elements 12 import tags from photoshop elements 5?

    See:

I suppose you are using the organizer : you'll be able to recover your PSE5 catalogs either by a catalog conversion on the same computer or by the backup / restore process.

  • Transfer data from Photoshop Elements 4

    Hi,
I am looking to transfer my catalog and collections intact from Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 on Windows XP to a newer version on Mac (yet to be purchased). Can anyone confirm if the catalogs and collections will export from version 4 and import successfully? I don't want to be left with the task of sorting 1000+ images into different collections again. I've found limited and conflicting info. online.
    Many thanks.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the delay in responding again.
From the info. given it looks like I will have to carry out the following steps:
    1. Backup the catalog on the in the existing copy of Elements 4 on the PC.
    2. Upgrade Elements on the PC to version 12.
    3. Restore the backed up catalog to the new version of elements on the PC
    4. Backup the catalog from version 12 on the PC.
    5. Purchase and install elements 12 again and install it on the Mac.
    6. Restore the backup to the Mac.
Can you confirm this is what I need to do?
I don't have a Mac, but I have done the transfer between PCs many times.
What is described in the above link is :
    - start with step Nr 2 - Upgrade PSE on the PC to version 12
    - In the upgrade process, you will be asked automatically to have your old catalog converted to the PSE12 format. No need for backup/restore at that stage, you can use your converted catalog on the PC.
    - Do the backup on the external drive : good thing for your PC and necessary for the transfer to your Mac. (I assume your external drive is compatible with both PC and Mac).
    - skip to your step Nr 5 - Install PSE12 on the Mac
    - finally restore from the external drive.
Can you also advise as to whether the photo version sets and stacks will be imported/restored correctly into version 12 from version 4, and also if these will transfer correctly from version 12 on the PC to the same version on the Mac?
Yes, they are stored in the database of the catalog.

  • Import photos from Photoshop Elements

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/lightroom/using/WS217DEA0F-2A78-4445-89CB-4CED1AFA450E.html

You don't import photos at all. No importing!!
Like the help documentation says, in Lightroom you choose File->Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog
If you want to use LR3, then use LR3. If you want to use LR4, then use LR4 and skip LR3.
Lightroom 5 is not out yet, so you can't use LR5. When it is out, you could upgrade your PSE catalog directly to LR5.

I just got a new computer and am trying to move my pictures stored in Photoshop Elements 4 to the new Photoshop Elements 12, but am stuck on how to do this as seamlessly as possible.
    Can anyone assist?

I would install PSE12 on the old computer, convert the old PSE 4 catalog to a PSE 12 catalog, and then move everything using these directions

Lightroom detects if your computer has a Photoshop Elements catalog and can import photos and data from the PSE catalog into a new Lightroom catalog. Lightroom imports photos and data from Photoshop Elements 6 and later on Windows. Lightroom imports photos and data from Photoshop Elements 9 on Mac OS.
Note: For help troubleshooting errors or problems when importing PSE catalogs into Lightroom, see the Adobe Support article Lightroom 3 cannot upgrade Photoshop Elements catalogs (cpsid_85517).
In the Library module, choose File > Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog. The Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog dialog box displays the most recently opened Photoshop Elements 6 (PSE6), Photoshop Elements 7 (PSE7), or Photoshop Elements 8 (PSE8), or Photoshop Elements 9 (PSE9) catalog.
To choose a different PSE catalog, click the Photoshop Elements drop-down menu.
To change the destination of the new Lightroom catalog, click Change and navigate to a different folder.
Click Upgrade to import the PSE catalog into a new Lightroom catalog.

  • Preserving time when importing from Photoshop Elements

I have about 15K photos that I am moving from Photoshop Elements on Windows to Aperture. In Elements all my photos are in time order sequence plus the liberal use of tags. The tags work fine but the time sequence does not. Most photos have the date for when they were taken plus additional dates for when they were edited and/or when they were copied when I upgraded Windows/Photoshop. Some photos were from APS film that Walmart copied to CDs and I manually set the date. I have checked the metadata on a random set of photos and the date used by Photoshop on Windows is correct.
My question is "Can I get Aperture to use the same rules as Photoshop Elements so that when I view "Photos" in Aperture, they will be in the same order. I check the manual; nothing on this. iPhoto has the same problem but then it doesn't support the same level of metadata as Aperture. Specifically, I need Aperture to support "Date Time Original" field when it is available. Otherwise, I will have to stay with Photoshop Elements.
    Anyone have a solution?
    Thanks
PS Using the change date/time facility is not a realistic option since it would take days of labour for something that is already contained in the metadata

This is because, when you port your slideshow to Premiere Elements, it becomes video -- and video has a resolution of essentially 640x480 pixels at 72 ppi.
If you'd like to save your slideshow at full resolution, you'll need to use one of the other export options -- and you'll need to make it playable on a computer, which has a higher resolution than your TV.

  • How can I import files into Lightroom 3 from Photoshop elements 8?

I just installed Lightroom 3 and bypassed the option to import my pics from Photoshop elements 8 (to see what other options were available). Lightroom advanced a page and there seems to be no way to return to the previous page, I've closed the page & reopened a few times.
I cannot locate where PSe8 stores it's files either so that is not an option. How do I reset lightroom to import my old files? Thank you.
I also see "upgrade files" but have no idea what this means & don't see an explanation; a simple definition would be great. Thanks again!

Thanks Beat,  I first had to make up a name for a new group then it opened Lightroom so I could do as you suggested - sucess!

  • How do I import from Photoshop elements 12 to Lightroom for Mac OS?

How do I import from Photoshop elements 12 to Lightroom for Mac OS?

I never did it from Windows to Mac.
I assume you need to move everything to Mac PSE12 (or PSE 13) by downloading the 30 day free trial of PSE 12 or 13, and then once everything is working, use File->Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog in Lightroom. Your tags and albums will remain intact. I believe the face recognition transfers as well to keywords, but the location in the photo of the face will be gone as Lightroom has no such feature.

  • Import images into Photoshop Elements Photo Organizer from Safari

    Hi,
I recently bought Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 for Mac. Safari is my default browser. I wonder, has anyone seen an extension or add-on to Apple Safari 5.0 that creates a context dialog that would allow one to import an image from a web page into the Adobe Elements 9 Photo Organizer. Currently, the process of importing into Adobe Photoshop Elements Photo Organizer is both elaborate and tedious. Alternatively, am I simply unaware of some simple drag and drop method to import an image from the web into Photoshop Elements 9 Photo Organizer?

    Hi Jack
It’s just not possible on the MAC even with the better Firefox open source Web Browser.

  • Decreased picture resolution when importing from Photoshop Elements

When I export pictures from Photoshop Elements 7.0 to Premier Elements 7.0 the resolution decreases significantly.  I tried to "bypass" Photoshop by importing the pictures from my hard drive but ended up with the same problem.

  • Wrong date when synchronizing from Photoshop elements 3.0/4.0

When I synchronize my photos from photoshop elements (I have tried both version 3.0 and 4.0) the dates displayed above the thumbs in the different folders become February 2040.
I have put my photos in different collections in PE which are recognized nicely within Itunes. I turned on the "enable disk use" and "include full-resolution photo" options. I can also see that the database structure built within the Ipod is correct (year->month->day) still the date displayed above the folders when scrolling through the thumbs is incorrect.
I have been busy quite a while now, but I can't find the answer, anyone there who knows the solution?

I am experiencing the same thing. Regardless of what photos I sync to my iPod 60GB, the date on top is always February 2040!
