Importing devices into ACS

we have hundreds of cisco devices on our network. we are currently deploying TACACS authentication/authorization on the network.
The devices need to be grouped, and NARs need to be assigned to different groups of people.
The network is very dynamic so cisco switches are being added/removed every day.
My question is is there a way to import network devices to ACS and place them automatically in the right NDG?
What do you think is the best way to keep ACS up to date with the latest changes on the network in my case?

Importing devices into QPM/Common Services

Hi,
We are in the process of installing QOS Policy Manager and I am struggling with a simple way to import devices into Common Services 3.2. The interface and the documentation is lacking to say the least. If it helps, we have a separate installation of Ciscoworks LMS 4.1. If I can run an export from that and than import into Common Services, I think that would be the easiest way to get all of my devices.
We use Solarwinds Orion for network monitoring, and I was hoping this application had something similar where you could do a device discovery via scanning a subnet via SNMP. If this is available, I don't see where to set this up.
I did manually add a device, and I thought about exporting it and building a csv file from the headers from that file, but we have so many devices that I feel that would be very time consuming to build that list.
Any suggestions?

It's been a while since I've had hands-on with one but Common Services 3.2 is part of LMS 3.1.
It has a discovery tool and the option to import devices via the cli using the dcrcli utility. See the link for using discovery in LMS 3.1 here.
You'll probably find it an exercise in frustration though. the old LMS will not recognize many of your more modern routers and thus QPM will be unable to send policies to them.
You'd be much better off using a more modern toolset like deploying configurations using NCM if you're an Orion shop or with templates in LMS 4.x. SolarWinds' NTA does a nice job of querying the CBQoS MIB to give you visibility into what's going on with QoS in your network.

Trying to import VSAs into ACS 1113 4.2

I have some VSAs to import into my 1113 box, but I am stuck before I can even start :-( I have an accountActions.csv file containing some VSAs (this is just a test csv file.) I also have an FTP server that is accessible from the 1113 system.
When at the GUI for the 1113 I do System Configuration --> RDBMS Synchronization I get the RDBSM Synchronization Setup screen all right. I have entered all the parameters associated with the FTP server, and selected manual synchronization. The problem is that there are no entries in the AAA Servers window at the Synchronization Partners section at the bottom, and therefore I can't get the 1113 to retrieve my accountActions.csv file, an action that (I guess) is triggered by clicking on the Synchronize Now button.
I do have an AAA Server defined in the 1113. It's a RADIUS server called Self, not assigned to any NDG.
I guess I do not understand this at all. I just want to import some external VSAs. Do I need to have an external AAA server to accomplish this? If not, how do I get my local Self server to appear in the list of synchronization partners?

The problem was that Self was defined with the wrong type - RADIUS, rather than CiscoSecureACS. Moving on to importing the VSAs.

I have moved my iPhoto to an external hard drive. so now I have to have the external hard drive connected to my laptop to view the photos. Now when I want to import photos into iPhoto from my media card, I don't have room to connect both devices.

First transfer the photos to a folder on your MacBook using Image Capture in your Utilities folder. Then move them to iPhoto.
BTW, you might want to invest in a cheap USB hub.

How to write .CSV file to import device placeholder into Lion Server Profile Manager?

I'm now using Mac Mini with Lion Server (10.7.4). I've already setup a server with Profile Manager to manage some iOS devices.
Now I need to add many devices into Profile Manager. From some articles, (for example http://my.safaribooksonline.com/book/-/9780132778879/chapter-4dot-managing-accou nts/ch04lev1sec3), I found that I can use .CSV file to import many device placeholders at a time. So I create a .CSV file "devices.csv" with the content as the following:
iPhone001,12345ABCD12,,,
Then I import this file to "Devices" in Profile Manager, but in vain. It says that the placeholder is invalid.
If there's any one could provide some exemples? Thanks a lot.

A little late, but perhaps someone else can benefit ...
The way I did this, is:
- create an empty Excel spreadsheet
- add 5 headers in the first row: DeviceName, SerialNumber, IMEI, MEID, UDID
- in the next rows add your devices and specs (for the iPhones and iPads I only added DeviceName, SerialNumber and IMEI specs)
- IMPORTANT: save the file as a Windows CSV file.
If you import the CSV file now, all should go well.

I just tried this in Photoshop CS3 myself. When I add a text layer, and choose Save, the Save As dialog box comes up and defaults to PSD as was described. But... that is just the default! Notice when you choose JPEG, the Layers box grays out and the "As A Copy" box grays out and is checked (i.e. you cannot uncheck it). This is good, because your Photoshop file with its editable text layer is preserved, and you get a JPEG copy to put in iPhoto.

Because this way makes files for the Web, they will be smaller than JPEGs from Save As because they will lack built-in previews (which you don't really need these days) and other extra metadata that take up space.
Either way you get a JPEG you can toss back into iPhoto.

When importing photos into LR, the year is incorrect. How to fix?

When I first created my Lightroom catalog, each new folder would fall under 2012, and within that folder would be the date, so for New Year's Eve "2012-12-31". Now that it is 2013, when I import photos into my 2013 folder, Lightroom instantly tries to create a subfolder of 2012 and another subfolder in that with today's date. I can't seem to get Lightroom to stop doing this. See the image below to see what I mean.
I'd like it to just put today's importing images into a subfolder under the 2013 folder, called "2013-01-25". It still wants to create this 2012 folder. Sorry if I am not using the correct wording but this is what is happening so everything shot in 2013 keeps getting put into a new 2012 folder each time.
As you can see I want the subfolders to be organized and Lightroom already has the date format correct. Please help me with this.

I am running Lightroom 4.3 on a 13" Macbook Air with Mac OSX 10.8.2, 1.8 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory, with RAW photos from a Canon EOS 6D.

As far as iOS is concerned naming or labeling your photos is pointless since it's a "visual and tactile" device where you touch or swipe what you see or a folder opens to show you it's entire contents. IPad and iPhone was never intended to search for a picture as such like you would on your desktop or laptop.

You do not export anything.
Instead, sync the content from Outlook to your device via iTunes.

I too had this error message (and to be honest, it was becoming a bit of a pain). I resolved it in a slightly different way to Terence.
I had 10 photos that were allegedly unreadable; however, as Terence rightly says, they are duplicates. When I opened iPhoto I mad a note of each of the files concerned and did a Spotlight search throughout my hard drive.
For each photo, there were four or five duplicates. I deleted all but one of each of the photos and then reopened iPhoto. No more error message.
The original problem stemmed from importing my files directly from an external device I was using with a previous computer [that was running XP].
Anyway, hope this helps.

Cannot import devices from LMS to QPM

Hi - I hope someone can help me on this one.
I have just installed Cisco QPM 3.2 on my network to work with my existing LMS 2.6. At the moment, I am struggling to import devices from my LMS to QPM, with error messages, "The file format is incorrect. Please select a file with the correct format". I don't know how else to deal with this. The file is successfully exported from Common Services in LMS and saved on a drive. From my QPM, I navigate to Add Devices--->Import from CSV file and browse to location where file is saved in LMS. However, it keeps giving me the same error message of incorrect file format.
Can someone be kind enough to assist me on this?

Most likely this is due to the incompatibility in the respective Common Services versions of QPM 3.2 (CS 2.2?) and LMS 2.6 (CS 3.0.6?). I would make a dummy device entry in QPM 3.2, export it out to csv, then compare the QPM csv with the existing csv you have from LMS 2.6. Since your goal is to import into QPM, you'd want to edit the LMS csv (probably by deleting any "new" columns introduced in CS 3.x).

AMIE:javac error when trying to import devices from Zenworks

Service Dek 6.5, Zenworks 11.1. I'm trying to import device information from zenworks into Service Desk using AMIE. I can connect to the Zenworks database fine in the, but when I click import I get an administrator alert: "javac is not available. Make sure you are using the JDK"
This is reported as an informational alert rather than an error. Synchronisation in progress is reported, but when it completes nothing appears to have been imported.
I've tried ZENworks Configuration Management v11.1 (LiveTime Software Inc.) Import and ZENworks Configuration Management v11.1 - Hardware (LiveTime Software Inc.) import.
Can anyone advise please?

You have to install the JDK without JRE!
(You have to deselect JRE during JDK installation, else the
NSD-installer takes the JRE-path and not the JDK-path.)
