Importing Digital Video as MP4 Format

I want to import HD video from my Canon VIXIA HMF500 into my MacBook as an MP4 format.  iMovie only saves it as a .mov file.  any suggestions?

Why?
What do you expect using a different media-container?
and, btw, the movs in iM are transcoded (into aic)  files, the original mts contains h264 encoded stuff.
there many options to rewrap that lossless into mov, mp4, flv, mkv, whatever wrapper ...
depending on, what your next step is ......

To be more precise: You MUST shoot in mov. Then drag the Clip bins from the card to you hard drive. Then drag the clips to FCP timeline and FCP asks you if you want to change to the right codec and of course you say YES. Now you can start editing. Can not be more simple. This camera was specially designed for use with FCP.

  • Importing Digital Video into FCF6 via ADVC-110

I have FC Studio 6 and am trying to import digital video via Firewire using a ADVC110 purchased at the Apple store. FCP does not recognize the camcorder-ADVC on capture, import, etc. Apparently others on the Web are having similar problems. Does anyone know the setup parameters for FCP and switch selections for the ADVC to make this workflow actually work?
    Thanks,
    DickWalt

If the camera has a firewire port, you should do this (forget the canopus)
Close FCP, turn off the mac and the camera.
Plug the firewire cable in the mac and the camera...make sure the camera is set for playback and not record.
Turn on the camera, then the mac.
Open System Profiler (click on blue apple icon top left, choose About this Mac and select More Info) Click on Firewire in the left pane of the Profiler interface and make sure your camera is recognized. If it's not, your camera is not set for playback or you have a bad FW cable or FW port on the camera or mac.
If it is recognized, open FCP, check your Easy Setup for DV-NTSC, then go to File/Log and Capture and see if you can capture...you should see the image from tape in the capture interface. If so,
Type in a name for the REEL (critical for FCP to recognize the timecode of that particular tape) and then type in a name for the clip(s) in the Description line.
Beyond that there are various methods of capturing, but best is to log each clip, with specific names, then highlight them all and do a Batch Capture. Check the manual for procedure.

  • Importing AVCHD video in .mp4 container from Samsung camcorder

    Hello anyone and everyone,
I recently purchased a new Samsung camcorder (Model: HMX-H100N) and wish to use Premier Pro CS4 to edit the resulting video. The camcorder records video to an SDHC card in 1080i avc1 in an .mp4 container (the exact specifications as shown in GSpot and MediaInfo below) which when I attempt to import into premiere a green square is displayed. I have tried several AVCHD 1080i as well as HDV 1080i presets none of which have resulted in anything other than the green square or "Format Not Supported" error messages. I'm running Windows 7 (x86) OS and have several codecs (filters) installed including ffdshow, CoreAVC, DivX 7 as well as the built in Microsoft DTV-DVD filter and the MainConcept (adobe2) H264/AVC decoder. During normal playback of the .mp4 file Windows Meida Player seems to use the built in Microsoft DTV filter and playback is flawless, I would assume that Premier is attempting to use the MainConcept filter which seems to be unable to decode the files. Any help is appreciated.

I have bought a Samsung HMX-H100NM for my son, and we have had the hardest time importing the video cilps in Adobe Premiere Pro.
Here is what I found so far:
    - If you check the video size on the "green square clips", it's completely bogus. It might be set to  4x13 instead of 1920x1080 for example.
    - There was a firmware update for the HMX-100N on the Samsung web site in late December 2009.  As of January 17, 2010, it is not there aymore.  I was told at the end of December 2009 that there would be a new firmware upgrade in January 2010, so maybe a new version is coming soon.
    - After upgrading the firmware (I'm not sure exactly what happened with the old firmware installed, except that importing didn't work at all), I find that I'm able to import some clips if I set the camera resolution to "fine" or "superfine".  The other resolution still gives me clips that I cannot import. When a clip import is successful, I can play the vide. However, if I save the project and reopen it, I will get "green squares" in lieu of some of the good clips. Rebooting the computer and reopening the same project might give me a different set of bad clips. I have reported this as a bug.
    - Just for the heck of it, we tried importing the same video clips in Adobe Premiere Elements and that worked just fine.
    In summary:
    1. Try setting your video resolution to "fine" or "super fine" in camera.
    2. Try using Adobe Premiere Elements.
    3. Pray that we get a fix in Premiere Pro soon.
    4. I'm looking for recommendation for a different video camera that will work "out of the box"

  • Importing digital video is very slow

Hi, I just bought a new Canon HF R40 camcorder and I am finding a few problems.  I've tried editing in iMovie 09 (iLife09) not sure if that's  and the program doesn't recognize the camera at all.  With the old iMovie program, I would just turn on the video camera and vio la...it recognzied it no problem.  This has left me with transferring movie clips directly from the SD card which seems painfully slow.  Now I was able to put together a short video with iMovie 09 but was unable to use any titles because the program would crash once I pressed the icon for Titles.  BTW I was taping in MP4 formate for the purpose of getting it on youtube.
    So my questions are:
    1.  Is editing from digital video vs DV tape slower in general?  At this rate I ask why anyone would find any pleasure in editing with digital video.
    2.  Is this because I'm transferring from an SD card vs directly from the camera?
    3.  Is iMovie 11 better at handling digital video?
    4.  Does anyone know why the program is crashing when using trying to use titles?
I really appreciate any advice with this problem.  I figured it was time to upgrade into a new camcorder but it sure seems that DV Tapes are much easier to work with and I'm on the verge of just returning the camera.
    Thanks,
    Orlando

  • Converting a video to MP4 format

    Good morning.
I have a video on my mini that I want to shrink down in size and put into MP4 format. If I use Handbrake and convert it keeping the aspect ratio the same and not changing any of the height and width numbers, will the resulting file still show correctly on my widescreen tv, the same as the original did?

  • How do I import a video in mp4 and export in QuickTime H.264?

Or is that even possible? Whenever I try I get a error "Incompatible codec..."

It's one file that was produced in a different video software that I used before purchasing Premiere Pro.
Most of it is composed of a series of stills, though there is a portion that is video (mp4 from the old software). I'm assuming I might have better luck creating a new video and exporting it in that format by importing the stills and video and working with them in Premiere Pro.

  • 3120c phone. How do I switch video to .mp4 format

I'm wondering how I can change the format of the video I take on my phone to .mp4, from the default format of .3gp.
    Thanks,
    Pablo

There are any number of video format converters out there that might do the trick, but the 3GP format is a deliverately low resolution format intended for mobile devices with low system resources and small screens, so the success of converting to a format doesn't really offer any benefits other than being able to play them in a wider variety of players, even in that case RealPlayer normally has no problem playing the files.

  • New trouble importing digital video

used to be able to import dv to imovie (4.0.1) ,no problem. now, importing is faulty- short cut outs followed by complete spontaneous shut off of video imput. plenty of hard disc space( 40 gb), am not using " file vault", have all other apps off when attempting import. any thoughts?

As mishmumkin said, it can be the cable. Before buying a new one, try removing and re-attaching both ends (into your camera and computer), make sure they are solidly attached, and don't move the camera or touch the cord when importing. Sometimes the connection, especially on the camera side, can be touchy.

  • How to download youtube video in Mp4 format from safari ?

Does anybody knows how to put link and when video plays just click on it and it will download. I had that option a while ago and cant find the way to make it again. Or if you know any other way....

    Using Safari 5.0.1 and Snow Leopard I used part of what I found online and stumbled across the final solution indicated by brackets {}
    From <http://mac-dvd.com/mac-guide/how-to-download-youtube-video-on-mac-for-free.htm l>
    Step 1: Download the videos
    1. Find your favorite YouTube video. This step is pretty self explanatory. Be sure to use Safari and search for your favorite YouTube Video. {Select 720 p or greater.}
    2. Next, you need to go to 'Window' and down to Activity. Click on 'Activity' to bring up the next dialog box.
    3. Once the dialog box has popped up you need to look for the YouTube page among all the page titles and files listed in the window.
    4. Once you locate it and expand all the activities going on in the page, look for the largest file size (this is shown in the right hand side). Most of the files found in a YouTube page are small files while most FLV files are several megabytes.
Once you locate the largest file,
    What I found out:
    {Hold down the SHIFT OPTION key and double click on it. The video should start downloading in your download and be named videoplayback.mp4.}
What I found out in the videos I tested is that if you did not use 720p or higher, SHIFT OPTION double clicking or just double clicking on the large file in the activity window downloaded an FLV file, which you then have to convert to mp4.
    Hope this helps.
