Importing .doc into RoboHelp 2002

I am still running RoboHelp 2002 (build .949) and running MS
Word 2002/SP-2. I am trying to import a Word doc into RoboHelp and
it is failing with no message.
question - Should I be able to import a Word 2002 document
into RoboHelp 2002?
Thanks for any help you can give.

Please ignore this posting - My Word document had a problem.

  • Importing mifs into RoboHelp imports Nothing

Using FrameMaker 7 and RoboHelp 8 - I import regularly (create new project, import frame docs as mifs) and an empty RoboHelp project with NO framemaker docs is created. Someone else has GOT to have had this issue, as it occurs occasionally on my machine (I finally have to import the Frame docs into an old version of RoboHelp (x5), create a project, and then import the x5 RoboHelp project into RoboHelp 8. I've used RoboHelp and FrameMaker for 8 years, so I know I'm performing the import correctly.
Anyone else out there find this problem? If so, how did you fix it? I have the latest updates installed, etc.
    Thank you.
    Jennifer

Yes. I did this because when I attempt to import the fm files, it never works, even importing Frame 9 docs into RoboHelp 8. I'm guaranteed to get the result I mentioned, an empty project. At least when I "mif" it, using Frame 9 and Robo 8, it "sometimes" works. I finally gave up trying to import a FrameMaker book or fm files...
    Thanks,

  • Issues with importing word docs into robohelp 10

I currently have an issue when I try to import a 'saved as: 97-2003' or 'MS Word' doc or docx into Robohelp 10, I receive the following error:
Any assistance with this would be appreciated.
In the meantime I've been converting everything from a doc/docx format to a pdf and then importing.
However, it would be nice to know why I can't perform the task as I have shared
    PS...
With regards to the error statement: "Please install Microsoft Word 2000 or newer"? I have Microsoft Office 2013 installed (and not the student or home version). "I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed", so to speak but I would think that Word 2013 would pacify the requirement of MS Word 2000 or newer...?
    Thanks.

The message is wrong in terms of the version specified. It is correct though that you do not have a supported version as Word 2013 is not supported.
Subject to licencing, you can have both 2010 and 2013 installed, then run 2010 before doing anything where Rh needs to talk to Word.

  • Problems importing a Word doc into Robohelp HTML

    I have a 116-page Word document with 13 chapters. When I
import this document into Robohelp HTML as a winhelp output file,
only two topics are created, rather than 13. On the Conversion
Options window, I select to have new topics created by Word style
"Heading 1" which are my chapter titles. Why doesn't Robohelp
create the topics, and what should I change to faciliate that?
Also, why don't my numbered lists from Word stay numbered in
Robohelp? Is there a way to automate numbered lists?

    Thanks for your reply.
When I insert .gif files JDeveloper ends with a message saying "Process exited with exit code 0". I then go and check in the database and I find the image added to the table.
With a word doc, JDeveloper does not give that message. No message at all regarding what the status of the process is. And the document is not added to the database. No error messages too. Could this be an issue with Oracle?

  • Importing FrameMaker into Robohelp

Hello I am using FM8 and Robohelp 7 as part of the Adobe Comm. Suite 1.
I am trying to import FM documents into a Webhelp project. I have both FM and RH open, but RH says I should check that my FM document is really a FM document. It IS. If I cannot import FM docs into RH, I'm just plain stuck: I bought the Comm Suite just for that.
    Any ideas?
    thanks!

    OK, here's the status:

       - FM 8.0p277
       - RH 7.03.001
       - still not possible to import FM files into RH (same message as
       mentioned in previous mail)
       - when attempt to import a .book: no error message but book not imported

  • Importing Projects into RoboHelp 7

I am migrating our RoboHelp 2002 HTML Help projects into
RoboHelp 7. It seems that they import just fine, but if I
don’t save and close RoboHelp 7 and then re-open the project,
    problems occur.
If I import a project and immediately try to view/edit the
Properties for a Single Source Layout (for example, right-clicking
Microsoft HTML Help>Properties), RoboHelp chugs along at a
snail’s pace. Sometimes it takes 4-6 minutes just to open the
Properties dialog box, and on other projects it takes so long that
I have to let it process overnight. This also happens if I import a
project and Generate Primary Layout (for example, compiling a CHM)
without closing and re-opening the project first.
To summarize, if I open RoboHelp, import a project, close
RoboHelp, and then re-open the project in RboHelp 7, all is well.
However, if I open RoboHelp, import a project, and then compile or
try to access the HTML Help Options dialog, it takes at about 20
times as long to complete the process.
    Any feedback would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Karen

    Hi Colum,
I am able to edit Project Settings, Topic Properties,
Templates, Baggage Files......pretty much everything, without
problems. I am also able to create new projects without any
processing delays. So far as I can tell, it's only when I try to
change SSL properties or compile that I run into the extremely slow
    processing.
Because I can import, save, close, re-open, and then work in
the projects without any problems, I thought it may have something
to do with the .ldb file running in the background while I have the
newly imported file open for the first time.
Thanks for your quick response. Any ideas?

  • Problem importing images into RoboHelp 10 from FM 11

I am using Adobe TCS4, on Win XP SP3, to import or link structured FrameMaker 11 books and documents into RoboHelp 10. Our default graphics types are generally eps and tiff images, in anchored frames and imported by reference into FrameMaker, and FrameMaker equations. When I import a FM document into RoboHelp, things appear reasonably correct, equations are converted to jpegs, but the other images typically do not appear. Instead, blank images are created in the appropriate size, and named <docname>00001.jpg, etc, where <docname> is the original FrameMaker document name.
During import, the Images portion of the FrameMaker conversion settings list "Use Distiller to Generate Image". If this box is checked, RoboHelp nearly always crashes when there are non-equation images in the file. If that setting is unchecked, the import generally completes, but the images, except for equations, are not imported. Remarkably, occasionally one or a few of the correct images doappear in the RoboHelp html; in these cases, it is usually one or more tiff images that have somehow been successfully converted to jpeg; but the majority of images are not converted.
I have tried a few other things, without success. For example, I have replaced all the images in the Framemaker document with jpeg images, then imported into RoboHelp, but the results are the same, with empty renamed images created, and original images not imported. I have also tried reducing the image sizes in the Framemaker to the exact size size required in the output; in other words, so images appear at 100% size in Framemaker. This approach also has not been successful. I have also tried importing to another format in RoboHelp, such as png, with no success.
I have had some occasional success, for example rare occasions when one or two images appear in the RoboHelp html, and a single case in which nearly all of the graphics imported correctly. That FM document is somewhat different from the others because nearly all of the referenced images in FrameMaker were PDF. The successfully imported PDFs were imported into RH as jpegs of the same name. The only files that failed to import were a few eps files which were imported as blank images named aqccording to the <docname>0001.jpg scheme.
Aside from converting all of my images to PDF, and modifying documents accordingly, I have run out of things to try. So, I was hoping to get some advise:
    1) Is there another approach I can try?
    2) Should I uninstall and reinstall TCS4?
    3) Is there an import log that could tell me the mapping of FrameMaker image name to RoboHelp image name, for example: fm0201.tif > <docname>00001.jpg? At least then I could use that list to manually import the appropriate jpgs into Robohelp.
    4) Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
    5) What is it with the constant crashes when "Use Distiller to Generate Image" is checked. In these cases, Distiller keeps chugging away, producing images, until RoboHelp crashes.
Thanks very much, I appreciate any suggestions.
    Chris McCauley

I remember reading that document on images, parts 1 and 2, I think, but did not find any solution to this issue there. I have seen your posts on the path length, and have tried to reduce them as much as possible by moving files close to the root directory. I continue to have issues with cross-references, but I have not spent much time yet in fully diagnosing that problem. I'm experienced with Framemaker for many years, and I'm beginning to feell familiar with many parts of RoboHelp, so I thoiught I'd try to knock these issues one at a time, in either order, actually. thanks for your suggestion.

  • Importing ditamap into RoboHelp fails

I am trying to import a ditamap (created in FrameMaker) into RoboHelp. I am able to create Web output using command line DITA-OT, which is what RH uses in the background. But when I try in RH, I get the following error:
Error occurred while importing C:\......\a.ditamap. See Output View for details.
    The Output View says:
Processing with DITA Open Toolkit failed. No Logs found.
Check DITA Open Toolkit is installed and working.
Well, as I said, DITA Open Toolkit is indeed installed and working for the exact ditamap that fails in RH. Even more puzzling is the fact that my colleague, who we believe has the same setup as I do, is able to import the ditamap.
We are both using RoboHelp 10.0.0.287, which I believe is the latest update available. Please correct me if I'm wrong! Our machines are Windows 7 and we have FrameMaker 11 (not that it should matter). DITA-OT is 1.6.3.
I found some talk about this problem from an old post (here), in which someone stated that Adobe is working on this. Any ideas whether that is still the case, or if I can try anything else?
    Thanks,
    Heather

Thank you for your reply, RoboColum(n). It turns out that the solution was to use DITA-OT 1.5 rather than 1.6.3. I was mistaken when I said above that my colleague and I had the same setup. He has been running the OT 1.5 for quite some time and since I recently installed it, I went for the newer version.
We can use version 1.5 for what we need, but it is rather strange that version 1.6 does not work to import ditamaps in RoboHelp. The information I found states that version 1.6 improves performance, provides clearer error messages and has undergone significant code cleanup.
I would be interested to know if Adobe will be keeping up with future versions of the DITA Open Toolkit. There are plans to incorporate the creation of context-sensitive webhelp in a future version, which would be really helpful for us.
    Thanks again,
    Heather

  • Importing pdf into RoboHelp HTML 8.

I get an "unsupported or corrupted file" error when trying to import a pdf as a topic into RoboHelp HTML 8. The file opens fine in Acrobat.

I've done that also.  However, one of my help projects consists solely of pdfs from other sources.  I've found that the print method works best for me.
Thanks for the tip, however.  It's good to know that someone looks at the responses.

What about importing the pdf in your baggage files?   The trick here is getting the project manager to display the Baggage Fle folder.  Toggle the icons at the top of the Project Manager window until they display.  See this thread below for the import instructions.

  • Import word into Robohelp

    Hi,
I am using Robohelp for the first time. I want to generate help pages for an application. I have all the contents prepared in Word document. I tried to import the word document into robohelp, however the whole content gets inported into single page. Is there any way this gets separated out in separate pages, or is it that I would need to prepare separate documents so that they are imported accordingly. Has anybosy faced this issue. I am using the 30 day trial version of Robohelp 8. Has anybody an idea about this and the possible solution for this.
    Thanks,
    Pallavi

You need to click the Edit button when you import, as shown in the first image.
The document will then be scanned and the next screen will be displayed, as in the second image.
One by one, highlight the styles on which topics are to be created and tick the Pagination field.
When you import, you will then have separate topics.

  • Unable to copy material or import Word Doc into RoboHelp 9 (Suite 3)?

I had this problem for awhile until I discovered that I was trying to import material from older word documents. Just opening the word doc in Office 10, saving it as a docx file before trying to copy and paste cleared this up. Pictures and text come across easily in RoboHelp 9 and Photoshop now.
PDF files are hit and miss. I think it may be due to the same type of problem... earlier version creation on the part of the PDF. sometimes they import great, just like they look in PDF format, sometimes they don't are are a big mess. I have had to copy and paste sections, recreating the look of the original pdf in a RoboHelp page.
Backwards compatability seems to be an issue that keeps cropping up in this suite... or am I doing something wrong, missed a simple control somewhere?

I think you mean Office 2010. Office 10 is Office 2002,
I'm not quite clear whether you mean import in the sense of File > Import or copy and paste as you refer to both. File > Import from older versions has not given me any problems. Cut and paste is not something I do much of but again it hasn't given me problems.
Cut and paste doesn't require any instructions. Importing is covered on my site.

  • Importing ".doc" into pages 2.0.2 under Snow Leopard or Lion?

How to fix this problem, that didn't exist under 10.5?
Not even .doc files created by Pages can be opened!
    (Systems: 10.6.3 and 10.7)

    Hello
Pages 2.0.2 was delivered in 2006 which is an eternity in computers world.
If I remember well, I was able to use it under 10.6.8.
Under 10.7.2, I may start it but I can't type any character.
    It's not really surprising.
I have no more detailed infos about iWork '06.
iWork '08 applications must be updated to version 8.0.3 to be used correctly under 10.6.8 or 10.7.x
when it was delivered in january 2010, iWork '09.0.3 was compatible with 10.4.11 and 10.5.6 or later
when it was delivered in august 2010, iWork '09.0.4 was compatible with 10.5.6 or later or OS X 10.6 or later
when it was delivered in january 2011, iWork '09.0.5 was compatible with 10.5.6 or later (which means that it's compatible with every 10.6 and existing 10.7)
when it was delivered in july 2011, iWork '09.1 is compatible with 10.6.6 or later and with 10.7.x
Applications and Operating Systems have independant parallel lives.
When an application is alive, it may be updated when some new system features require that it evolve.
When an application is replaced by an other one, it's no longer updated so, more or less soon, it become incompatible with new operating systems.
If you refuse to upgrade your applications (which means buy new versions), don't apply the system updates which may render them obsolete.

  • Missing spaces between words after importing Word document into RoboHelp HTML version 8

I created a 400+ page document in Word 2007 and imported it into RoboHelp 8 (HTML, not RoboHelp for Word). In many places, the space between a bold word and a non-bold word is no longer there. I would like to avoid having to go through the entire RH document to replace the spaces manually. Did I import incorrectly?

    Looks perfect, works terribly...
    Things to consider:
Chances are, the different treatments of the space are due to whether the space was included in the bolding of the word in MS Word.
Additionally, since Word files contain much underlying binary code (macros and such), your security settings might or might not be playing well with the Word stuff.
Are you importing the Word file from a network location, or from your local machine? Network traffic might be partially impacting the import, too.
Bottom line? You'll probably need to clear all formatting in the Word file and redo the formatting properly. To test this, cut a couple of pages into a new Word file, clear and redo the formatting in Word, import the Word file into another RH project, and see what results you get.
    To clear the formatting:
    Select text.
On the Home tab, in the Font group, click Clear Formatting.
Redo the formatting, being careful to not format the spaces.
    Good luck,
    Leon

  • Import InDesign files into RoboHelp HTML

    Hello,
My company is moving toward online help. We currently use InDesign to author our manuals and then export them to pdf for publication. I've been on the phone with Adobe trying to see if there's a way to easily import InDesign into RoboHelp. We're on an older version of RoboHelp, so I'm told this is possible, but I can't get any help until we buy RoboHelp9. I know that we can import our pdfs into RoboHelp--I'm just wondering if there's a way to import InDesign files directly into RoboHelp. Has anyone tried to do this? Anyone have any suggestions? It seems these two programs should play nice together, doesn't it?
    Louley

    Hi there
To my knowledge it is not possible to accomplish. I've been using RoboHelp since 1992 and I've never seen it done.
The only way I can fathom it working would be if InDesign could save as an HTML page. Then import the HTML. Or possibly produce a PDF from InDesign, then import that. But even importing the PDF may not give you the results you want.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Importing tables from Word 2003 into Robohelp for word ^

Does anyone know how to import tables and boxex from Word
    2003 nicely into Robohelp 6

You can capture the table from your original word.doc and
save the image as either a bmp or gif file. In robohelp, insert the
picture where you want it to be located at. Have the table act as
    an image.
