Importing drawing to Word results in pict chunkiness

I've always had great success performing all my drawing tasks in older versions of Appleworks and especially when it went through its ClarisWorks phase, and then easily pasting them into a Word document. However now when I reverse the process, in order to modify the drawing, by copying or cutting out of Word and back into Appleworks the result is unusable, with text elements changing size and graphic elements moving. I'm having to re-create virtually decades worth of work. And then when I paste back into word all I get is this chunky, pict-looking graphic that is not worthy or duplication. Can someone explain (in layman's terms) exactly what is happening and if there is a solution to this?

Unfortunately Word does not have an Appleworks compatible drawing module. It is likely that Clarisworks and Appleworks were copying a PICT image into the clipboard, and pasting that as a raster image into Word.
Hopefully you still have the original Appleworks or Clarisworks drawings to bring back up into Appleworks. http://www.eazydraw.com/ offers an ability to bring the draw documents into a modern format that more programs can use.

  • ID only imports the first word of a 233 page word file (a novel)

    Folks!
I've tried the old FIle-Place  make a text box and shift+enter..... and I ONLY get the first word of a 60,000 document.  Why?
    I need help ASAP!

There are a lot of possibilities causing the problem, probably it is caused by some formatting done in Word.
What text styles are used in Word? Do they have some break options? Repair them in Word.
Are text boxes/frames used in Word? Remove them in Word.
Is in Word some kind of break inserted (section, page, column, …)? Remove them in Word.
    But also important:
When you import the Word file, do you select the import options during import? Do it!
In InDesign is a character style selected before importing, before choosing the text tool? Don't.
Because we don't know the source of the Word file it is hard to tell you what it is. A huge problem are Word files which have been converted from PDF or other programs.
I would try to get rid from any Word imported formatting. Imported styles from Word I would never use in InDesign, I import them often, but I have my own styles predefined in InDesign. After importing I delete step by step the Word formatting. I know, I could map the Word Styles to existing InDesign styles, but in my experience some unexpected things are happening when the Word file comes from someone else than me, because a lot of people have only limitted knowledge when it comes to Word styles and document structure.

  • I want to import a MS Word Index into a .pdf file using Adobe Pro.  How do I do that?

I want to import a MS Word Index into a .pdf file using Adobe Pro. It is for a book.  The book has been converted to a .pdf for printing, but it needs an Index for the last page of the book.  I tried to embed a new index (starting from scratch but no luck.  Any suggestions?  Thank you for your time.

Now I want to search this "myArrayStrings.get(r)" in another file. How to do that?Store the returned String. Do the same thing you did to read the first file to read the second file (i.e. read it in line-by-line and store the lines in a list). Then check if that list contains the String you stored from the first list.
    E.g. (using your code):
String name = myArrayStrings.get(r); // assuming r is initialized somewhere before this
    if ( otherList.contains( name ) ) { // assuming otherList is your second list
        // do something
    }

  • When importing from a Word document placing the text in InDesign

When importing from a Word document placing the text in InDesign I can only see the text from the first page of the Word document. I have increased the number of pages in the Indesign document to more than what is in the Word document, still only text from the first page is shown. What am I doing wrong or did I not set a setting correctly?

When you want to auto flow text while placing, hold down the Shift key when clicking with the Place cursor on the first page. New pages will be generated and text will be auto flowed using the margins set up on the master page.

  • Importing images in Word file

Hi, after importing a Word doc into RH7 most images are
correctly displaying in their topics but some just show a
placeholder and filename of a .png image. This means presumably
that png images are not supported by the Word conversion routine. I
have imported .pngs successfully in the past in other projects. Is
there a pre-conversion step I can do in Word to images to make sure
they are treated properly by RH.
    thanks,
    mike

Next time you have trouble importing a legacy Word .doc, try
    this:
In Word, create a new file using the New command and the
    default .dot.
Insert the contents of the legacy .doc from the menu command
    (not by cutting and pasting).
In Word 7, they moved the "insert file" command to Insert
    > Object > Text from File . . .
I'd think "insert text from file" would mean pasting
something that doesn't include graphics. However, Word will bring
in everything from the legacy .doc including formatting and styles.
Save As . . . the new document as .doc or .docx. I don't
think RH 7 cares. In our experience, jpegs and gifs sometimes were
missing until we created the new Word file.
Another wrinkle: In Explorer view, with a folder open, File
    > New allows you to create an empty Word document right there.
We had some trouble using one of these for importing and saving the
    legacy .doc.
Didn't have time to track it down. Was the legacy .doc
created in Word 2003, and the conversion to .docx in 2007 glitched
some images? In your case, it just happened to the .png files? As
you previously speculated, images may have been handled differently
    in creating the original .doc.
My hypothesis here is, whatever the reason for images getting
lost in the import to Word, everything gets fixed -- even for pngs
-- when you start with a clean slate in a new Word document created
from the New menu in Word.

  • Editing a document imported into Microsoft Word

Anyone know if there's a way to edit a scanned document that is imported into Microsoft Word? When I scan it it saves as either a JPEG file or PDF.
    Thanks!

I've got a feeling that he means editing a textual document that was scanned in. In that case, OCR software would be needed. I'm not familiar with any on the Mac side, but I know Omnisoft works pretty well on the Windows side.

  • Importing Testcases from Word Document

I want to import testcase form Word Document document to MTM tool. Are there any tools available for acheving this?
The testcases table to import is not getting recognosed when I tried with "Test Case Migrator Plus".
Able to import if the testcases are stored in excel. However, the entry stroke in a same cell is getting created as new test step. i.e New test steps is getting added in MTM tool if test step is written with a line break in excel.
Any help on this would be great.

    Hello.
    Glad to receive your reply.
    Based on this link: http://tcmimport.codeplex.com/,
test Case Migrator Plus tool allows test related artifacts, present in Excel and MHT/Word formats, to be imported into Team Foundation Server.
I think that it support importing test cases from Word format into TFS. Then you can run those test cases in MTM.
As I mentioned in my previous reply,
Except Test Case Migrator Plus, and I don’t find any other tools which support this kind of import.
If you get issues when you use “Test Case Migrator Plus” to import test case from Word Document to TFS, you can start a discussion onhttp://tcmimport.codeplex.com/discussions
    for better response.

  • Photos app won't import to MS word

Just done the Yosemite update on Macbook Pro which has eradicated the much loved and used iPhoto - where I could easily import photos into word documents from the photo browser or drag and drop from the iPhoto window.  I use MS word for Mac and now I cannot drag photos into the documents from the new Photos App.
Also can't find an option to display the photo in the finder which was also available on iPhoto allowing me to find the original of the image.
Will this be fixed with another update? or is there another way of linking up the new Photos App with MS word for Mac?

For the time being you can drag photos to the desktop and then into MS Word, alternatively you could use Pages.

  • How do i import a large word document into Indesign CS6?

I am a new user to InDesign, using version CS6, I would like to know if there is an easy way to import a MS word document into InDesign. The document is about 1000 pages and contains text, images and tables.

Notes on importing from Word to InDesign CS6 and exporting via Kindle Plugin can be found on my blog at:
    http://02cafd3.netsolhost.com/blogs/eBookTec/?p=316
To make a long story short, the Kindle Plugin has a long-standing problem with tables and/or more than a certain limit of hyperlinks.  Since these problems have persisted for at least 2 years now, I must conclude that there are organizational problems on the Kindle Plugin project.  The possibilities include too many junior programmers, not enough attention to the project, not enough positive incentive to make the plugin work and any number of possible management weaknesses.  It took our JPL team about 3 years to put Spirit and Opportunity on Mars, so there's no way a technical problem could be standing this long in the way of the Kindle Plugin handling tables or any number of embedded hyperlinks - nor, for that matter, a Word source document of any reasonable size whatsoever.  One might also cite a lack of competition in this new business sector but then you'd have to ask, do they want to play in the eBook market or don't they?  Companies like Apple succeed by ignoring the competition and in this way end up setting the standards for decades to come.

  • Importing images in Word Doc

My colleague recently had Office 2007 installed, then RH 7.
She started a new project and imported a Word *.docx file. RH
did everything I expect it to do except for this:
The images do not appear in the topics. It creates a separate
project manager folder for the images, as I expect it to do.
However, the folder seems to contain nothing. Normally, I
would expect to see images listed there. They aren't in the top
directory as baggage files, either. They are in .gif and .jpg
    formats.
The images do show up in the project's Windows directory, in
the new folder corresponding to the "empty" directory in project
manager. The Unused Files report finds them.
I can't figure out what my colleague may have done when built
the Word .doc -- nothing any different from what I usually do --
that could explain this. Saving it as .docx or as .doc makes no
difference. Converting it from .docx to .doc doesn't fix it. The
import goes exactly the same on my two PCs. One runs Office 2007
and RH 7. The other runs Word 2003 and RH 7. Of course, .docx won't
run in the latter environment. Any .docx or .doc files that I built
    work fine.
I found two workarounds, but first I'd really like to know
what conditions in her Word files would cause RH to do this. Has
anyone seen it, and is there a simple way to fix the Word doc?
    Otherwise these are her options:
Option 1. Create a new Word document in Word 2007 and insert
the complete original file (the new Word menu moved this to Insert
    > Object > Text from File). Save the new file as .doc or
.docx. Import the new file into RH 7. Images appear in the topics
and in the project manager under a new folder. (Copy all and paste
into the new Word doc also works.)
She has several large Word documents to deal with, so this is
    less than ideal.
Option 2. In the new topics in RH, insert the images where
they belong. While they don't appear in the project manager, the
insert image dialog finds them. After we insert an image, RH shows
it in the project manager. Probably, this would take longer than
    Option 1.
    Any ideas?

  • Importing footnotes from Word (and making endnotes)

I have always had great problems importing footnotes from Word. After having saved Word as an .rtf and importing the text through and Cmd/Ctrl-D the footnotes come in at the bottom of every column in the text frame.
Is there any way of getting them to go to the end of the text whilst still keeping their numbers and the numbers in the body of the text?
I think what I want to do is change footnotes to endnotes.
At the moment I'm just deleting all the footnotes from each column and changing the leading to zero to close the box and then pasting all the footnotes from Word into the document as endnotes.
This way at least I still get the superscript numbers in the text OK but it's not a very elegant solution.

Hello Guys, Thank you so much for your answers. Sorry it took so long to get back to you, I've been really busy and I've only just got back to this job where I have all the footnotes. I tried  the Footnotes2Endnotes_v23.jsx and it worked first time!!
This will save me countless hours with this issue. I have resorted to pasting in the text and laboriously re-entered the numbers in the past!
    Thank you Eugene and David.

  • Saving an AI file for importing into MS Word

I have a file in AI CS2 that I need to import into MS Word. When I "insert" as file, and print it out, it appears to be bit-mapped. How can I save or export a vector file from AI so that it inserts into word as a vector file? I tried exporting as an eps file, but when I inserted the eps file it was not the same dimension as the file that I exported.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Bond

Both will work if you choose to save as an ai you have to fatten the transparency and you might have to resize it Word.
If you print this to an epson printer then you have to make certain you select the highest quality or Photo when printing printing as a draft will leave horizontal lines in the print.

  • Importing text from word into indesign3

I am importing text from a word document that has lots of footnotes in it into an indesign3 file  - I need to keep some of the formatting from the word document i.e italics and tabs however I need to be able to edit and reposition the 'word' footnotes within indesign - I don't seem to be able to do this without turning off the footnotes editing completely before importing? Is there a way around this?

Word is wordprocessor. iWeb is an application to create webpages with.
Copy/pasting formatted text always has unexpected results.
To overcome that, save your Word document as a html file.
Open it in a browser and then copy/paste the text.
    iWeb will retain the formatting.
And Lion is an operating system. Just like a Mercedes is a car. Neither has anything to do with your problem.

  • Importing text from Word to ID

Hello. Which are the best way to import text files? I mean, step by step, from Microsoft Word to ID? It is a headache when you apply an style and booom all the italics and bolds dissapear... Sometimes it works fine when i apply a style, but sometimes it does a disaster. From now, I am really curious about how indesign thinks to resolve the import cases and the work of styles.
    1) Why sometimes erase all the word local formats and sometimes does not?
    2) Is it a problem using .doc, .docx or .rtf to save text files an import?
    3) Is the problem that you work with .TTF fonts (like Arial, Times, Courier) from word and on ID you use OpenType Fonts?
    4) What is the NON-FAIL way to do an excellent import? from Microsoft Word to ID
    Thanks
    Alejandro

    yo_soy_tu_padre007 wrote:
    1) Why sometimes erase all the word local formats and sometimes does not?
When placing, you can select to either preserve 'local' formatting or remove it. Local formatting is "anything done without using a style", just as it is in InDesign. As Ellis says, check your import settings.
In addition, even if you 'preserve' local formatting, it's very easy to accidentally remove it in InDesign when you apply another style. If common attributes such as bold and italics are not applied through character styles in the original Word document, you should preserve them yourself by doing that in InDesign.
    2) Is it a problem using .doc, .docx or .rtf to save text files an import?
Yes, on all three. There is no single format that InDesign works best with. If a Word document causes me trouble, I try the other options until I get not exactly the "best" result, but more accurately a "least bad".
    3) Is the problem that you work with .TTF fonts (like Arial, Times, Courier) from word and on ID you use OpenType Fonts?
Not in the least. Actually, you can use TTF fonts as well as OTF fonts with InDesign. The import is totally indifferent of the fonts used -- it doesn't matter what you used in Word, you'll get the same fonts in the imported text. That is, except when it's bitmap fonts, which you cannot use in InDesign, or when the author italicized or bolded text in Word where the actual Bold or Italic font doesn't exist. But even then, InDesign will happily import the text -- it will just have an 'unavailable' font assigned to it, and you'll be notified of that.
    4) What is the NON-FAIL way to do an excellent import? from Microsoft Word to ID
I would like to know the answer to that as well. The import filter has problems with tables, footnotes, endnotes, automatic references, and new page codes, for .docx, .rtf, and .doc files.
