Importing DV is IMPOSSIBLE!!!!

I have Final Cut Pro 5.
I have a HDV Sony Camera.
I have a standard DV tape instead, with DV footage recorded (not HDV). I recorded a DV tape in a HDV camera (the camera can record in both formats).
So last week I uploaded DV footage easily. I had the settings on DV-NSTC Firewire and all was good.
This week, I have another DV tape. I had to fool with the settings and set it up for HDV Firewire. I can now see my footage, but I have to Capture Now as if it were HDV footage.
So I hit "Capture Now" and let it import for 10 minutes or so." I have to press "Escape" to stop importing, and so I do. Yet, after pressing escape, and then looking at my captured clip in my browser, I realize my clip has only captured the last 10-20 seconds of my video.
I tried several times, always with the same result. Just a fraction of my film gets imported. There seems to be a LONG delay before it actually captures (even though it seems to be capturing the whole time).
I was thinking this might be because the film is DV and Final Cut Pro thinks I'm importing HDV. Is that possible?
I've spent HOURS trying to figure this out. I'm determined, but I'm about to pull all my hair out. I feel like David Banner before he turns into the Hulk. ;o)
Please help someone!!!!

Thanks Joey, your advice helped me solve the mystery I think.
I still need help though.
I realized I didn't change the setting on my camera when I recorded the footage. So even though the tape is a standard DV tape, I recorded on HDV mode. So it is being read as HDV. I did an experiment with the same tape, shot some footage with the settings changed to DV, and voila! it imported fine. So next time I'll know to change my camera settings to DV before recording anything.
This leaves my last question. I can import this video now under HDV Firewire settings, but when I hit Capture Now, I cannot get the majority of my footage to import (I can only get the last ten seconds or so.) Why is this? And why am I getting the tail end of the footage?
Any help? Thanks everyone?

  • Import Java Classes impossible?!

    Hello all!
    I tried in Forms 6i to use the option "import Java Class". But i always get the error-message PDE-UJI001, which I didn't find in any documentation. This error occurred on two different systems, in Win2000 and Win98.
    null

    Hi Martin!
    I had the same problem like you. What you have to do is the following.
    One solution is to read the metalink, search for the exception and import java classes.
    The second solution is:
    setting the classpath to the importer.jar file and to your directory where the classes you want to import are.
    And you have to set the path to jre\classic and jre\bin.

  • Impossible importer .m4v dans ibooks author

    Bonjour

    As you give no info about formats, sequence settings etc. and how you are actually trying to import it is impossible to guess.
    Please give  as much information as possible as there are countless configurations and permutations of settings you may be using.

  • What's the best way to back up laptop?

    Hi all,
    This is probably a dumb question, but I'm going to ask it anyway. What's the best way to back up a laptop: hooking up a hard drive manually, or via WiFi?
    In the past, I've just hooked up a hard drive to my MacBook Pro, and manually synced it with Time Machine. But, of course, sometimes I'm busy and I don't get around to doing that as faithfully as I should. So, I'm thinking of hooking up a hard drive to my AirPort so that my laptop will automatically sync over WiFi whenever I'm home.
    Before I do that, however, two questions:
    1) Is that easier to do than the way I'm currently backing up? Or are there problems with that route that I'm not foreseeing right now? How do you all back up your laptops?
    2) I also have a Mac Pro on my network at home. Will I have a problem with my Mac Pro seeing the WiFi "Time Machine" hard drive and wanting to back up to it, rather than the Time Machine hard drive I already have physically hooked up to it?
    Thanks for your advice!

    Methodology to protect your data. Backups vs. Archives. Long-term data protection
    excerpt:
    Four words: "compartmentalized autonomous redundancy of data" or C.A.R.D. What this means regarding your data is “centralize it, isolate it, and multiply it”. This easy acronym to remember about how to approach your data is a great first approach to keep in mind.
    Compartmentalized: separating out your data from your system files, centralizing all static and active files into a location or two to make backups, and archived data easier to update and locate. Centralizing your data collection is the primary hazard to overcome for what usually is the case of data that is scattered everywhere throughout your internal hard drive.
    Autonomous: Isolation of data from changes, theft, decentralizing data to safes, fire boxes, offsite and online locations. Importantly ‘freezing’ data onto independent storage media for protection and from alterations, such as DVDs, hard drives, and online encrypted files, or .DMG created files of static data collections.
    Redundancy: making copies of all autonomous isolated data such that data is decentralized not only in place and in media storage type (DVD, HD, online) for safety and protection as a failsafe, but each aspect of that failsafe has at the very least two redundant copies.
    Data: all files made, saved, created, modified or working on. Important pictures, documents, videos, PDF, financial, personal. Any data large or small which you would not dare lose, which is private, important, hard or impossible to recreate, or most importantly, would take tremendous time to regenerate. Essentially anything important to you, your company, your loved ones (will, medical records, financial information, etc.), friends or otherwise.

  • HT204406 How to delete duplicate songs from Libary without deleting them from play list or other devices

    How to delete duplicate songs from libary without deleting them from playlist or other devices

    I'm with you verm71; it's not entirely clear how Apple is expecting you to manage this.  I'm going on vacation soon and want to clean up my phone so that it's nice and empty for the new pictures.  There doesn't seem to be a way to do this without losing your pictures in the new Photos as well.  If imported, it's impossible to see which is the Cloud version and which is the Local version.  It's very annoying.
    I've also noticed in iPhoto you used to have the ability to locate the original of the picture inside the photo database.  That option is not provided in Photos, making finding the original extremely difficult.
    It seems to be a great, well-oiled system.  But I would love to know how Apple envisions the typical workflow for archiving...

  • Mail is SLOWWWWWWW

    since upgrading to leapord and running the latest update to 10.5.1. Mail has become unusably slow. the problem is when i create a new email message and start typing. I type approximatly 60-70 words a minute. and mail is displaying what i type at about the rate of 5-10 words a minute. I did this with activity monitor running. and as soon as i start typing the cpu skyrockets to 50-100% until it catches up with what i typed....email is rather import and its impossible to work like this. any insight into this issue would be greatly appreciated.

    OWB is not certified against the standard edition database. Generated code may work, but we never test this scenario.

  • Can 10.4 be installed on the latest MBPs?

    I'm fed up with Snow Leopard. It's the worst OSX ever made by Apple. I've recently powered up the old PowerMac G4 (dual-1.25GHz with only 1.5 gigabytes of RAM), which runs 10.4.11 and OH BOY how much faster it is than my Snow Leopard on my MBP15/2009!!! After nearly a day of working on it it still feels pretty snappy, and has about 1 gigabyte of RAM available, with about 150 megabytes of "Active memory"! On my MBP15 with Snow Leopard? Well... I have only two apps running right now - Mail and Safari, and... 15 megabytes of free RAM, and the whole system feels pretty slow. Showing 2.2 gigabytes of Active memory - what the **** is taking that much memory??? There are no apps that take more than 300 megabytes of RAM in Activity Monitor, and all processes together are only taking about 600 megabytes of real memory...
    So I want to switch back to 10.4.11 on my MBP15. Does anybody know if it can be installed? I'm guessing the new MBPs have some hardware that 10.4 might not have support for... Any ideas?

    I have multiple Macs at work, all exhibiting the same issues.
    Reboot your system, launch Safari and check how much memory it's taking. Go to so e graphics heavy site, like www.gamespot.com, for example. Compare the amount of RAM it's taking in Snow Leopard on Intel Macs with the amount on Tiger, running on PPC. 300-400 megabytes on Intel easily. In Tiger on PPC it hardly ever gets above 120 megabytes.
    Or just reboot the system and note how much free RAM is in the system. In Tiger on PPC with 1.75 gigabytes of RAM I have about 1.5 gigabytes free. On Intel? Out of 4 gigabytes about 2.5 is free.
    But try importing a very large video clip from a camera, using iMovie. On Snow Leopard the system will become so slow that at times iMovie might not even finish the import and instead would fail with an error (and about 2 gigabytes in swap). On Tiger the import is virtually impossible to notice.

  • BC/Muse syncing issue with third-party code

    Hi there, I was hoping someone had a solution to this issue - which is this:
    I have used some third party code for a Hotel's 'QuickBook' function on every page. Periodically, this code stops working on some pages, and works on others - mainly when I republish the site via Muse.
    I asked the code's developer to look at it and they found this problem:
    <form method="post" action="http://fe.avvio.com/convert/site/Clandeboye%20Lodge/index.php" id="c5QuickBook3Fields"></form>
    The form effectively begins and ends on the same line.
    However, the </form> appears on a completely different line in the code - rather than the wrong place (as indicated above) it appears in excatly the correct place. Does BC 'render' this either in the wrong place, or doesn't recognise it being there at all?
    As a temporary fix: When I log into BC and edit the website from the back end, all I have to do is navigate to the offending page where the QuickBook rests, click 'Update' without making any changes at all and it begins working again.
    As a workaround this is obvioulsy a bit of a chore, but more importantly it's impossible to tell when, or on what page, this third party code decides not to work!
    It's worth pointing out that the third party code seems to be fine - I've had it looked over and it does in fact work continuously on competitor websites I've been checking.
    Apologies if it doesn't make sense... honestly, it has me baffled. I might even have to re-word this at a later stage!
    Thanks for any help though.

    If you have the entire iTunes folder from the old system and have restored this into <User's Music> on the new one then iTunes should treat this as the "home" library for the device. It should sync without removing any content. If not, see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
    I suspect the options are greyed out because there are currently no Tones in the iTunes library to sync.

  • How do I build a macbook air as a standby  machine ?

    I have a 2010 13" dual core Macbook Air I want to build & maintain as a standby quick swap out machine in case my MBP crashes at the wrong time & is unrecoverable.
    Assuming my external storage remains operable after the crash what do I need to consider in building the MBA as a standby machine to ensure a quick swap out with minimal data loss? I'm not looking to mirror the main machine's drive.
    many thanks

    you dont want to mirror the HD from the Pro on an external?
          Thats exactly what you DO need to do.
    ~~~~~~"in case my MBP crashes at the wrong time & is unrecoverable"
    The working premise of any pro on any computer is to always always assume your notebook or desktop is going to crash and burn anytime all the time.
    Why would your external storage NOT be operational after your machine crashes (if and when) ?
    This is why its all about redundancy in multiples externally.  2 copies is 1, and 1 is none, and data ON the computer never counts in this scheme.
    If you only have a single external backup or data archive, this is always a disaster in waiting, a single-point failure and tragedy-trap
    As for your "fast recovery from a crash"
    Nothing exists faster than a HD clone to boot from for ultra fast recovery from an internal HD or SSD crash.
    see all details:
    Methodology to protect your data. Backups vs. Archives. Long-term data protection
    Peace
    There are only two kinds of hard drives, those that have failed, and those that will fail, regardless of quality of manufacture.
    Never consider any computer a data storage device at any time under any circumstance, rather a data creation, sending, and manipulation device. Anyone who thinks data is safe on any computer, even copied upon multiple partitions is making a mistake that will, without fail, strike.
  • E-mail Issue NEED HELP
    Hello,
    I have a customer at Santa Clara University who wants to change from a Mac to a PC go figure! He is currently using Apple Mail and wants to export his e-mail addresses to GroupWise (Novell) on the PC. Can you tell me what he would need to do in order to export his addresses? I know GroupWise is a proprietary e-mail application, but what about maybe into Entourage or Outlook? Is there even a script the customer can run?
    Can someone let me know.
    Thank you
    Phi
    Without knowing the format GroupWise uses to import, it's impossible to give you exact directions. Here's something you can try. I will state upfront that I haven't.
    In Mail, select Window->Previous Recipients. Hightlight one name on the list and then Command-A to select all. Click on Add to Address Book. Now that all of the addresses are in the Address Book, you can select the All group in Address Book and then File->Export Group vCard. The Previous Recipients contains ALL names that the person has received e-mail from. Assuming the person has never cleared the list this could be a large number. It may or may not be worth going through first and deleting some entries.
  • Moisture on Shuffle
    I've read lists of complaints regarding the headphones. Mine have failed twice during exercise, but were okay when they dried. I am thinking that the problem is the connection with the headphone wire and the Shuffle. You would think that a waterproof connection would be a good feature for this product. Anyway,I have restored the Shuffle each time it failed and it heats up while attached to the USB, then works with the headphones. I find this a serious problem with a reasonably good product. Has anyone experienced a similar situation?
    This has to be the most poorly designed feature I have ever seen. The point of having an iphone is to receive calls. That is overlooked by the iphone 4's reception problems. The purpose of having an ipod shuffle is to have a portable music library that you can listen to. The shuffle fails to do this. I understand the stated purpose of the headphones is to give easy access, but I'm beginning to understand its true purpose. They are designed to give you massive headaches so you are forced to buy a more expensive model. Shuffles are practically impossible to use with any type of standard car stereo interface hardware, but more importantly, they are impossible to use when you work out. The headphones seem to be designed to allow water to pass down the wire to the control mechanism using the properties of gravity and cohesion. So why wouldn't people smarter than me recognize this and make the mechanism waterproof. Oh yeah, they want it to fail so you buy the more expensive model. With this merchandise apple has put themselves in one of two categories, either they are scam artists and only want you to spend more money on accessories or more expensive moldes, or they were too stupid to recognize the problem in the first place(a problem easily recognized by testing it while running once or twice). Neither category is very flattering. Apple... you need to stop focusing on trivial features sucha s color and engraving, or in the case of the iphone that dumb thing that lets you see yourself when you talk. Instead, make sure the music players play music, or in the case of the iphone the ability to send and receive calls. A truly revolutionary concept.
