Importing FCE to FCP and G5 iMac to Duo Core iMac issues

I mainly film & edit weddings, but work on a number of other things as well. Someone told me to try hitting escape when I get the error message window, which worked good enough on a few of the projects, but not on most. Have been using FCP 5.1.4 for about a year now and opened plenty of my old FCE 3.0 files without trouble. Switched from an iMac G5 without a Duo Core to a new one (iMac 7.1) with a Duo core in Jan, and now having all kinds of problems opening old FCE and sometimes even FCP projects started before I got the Duo Core.
There's a project I created abt 8 mos ago in FCP 5.1.4 I'm trying to open and touch up a bit in the same version of FCP, but the cursor goes into a multi-color spin and essentially freezes up. I've also tried to open the capture scratch files from this project in a new Final Cut project, but they won't open and I get this message: "File error: 1 file recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown." Finally, try to open the capture scratch files in Quicktime, but get this message: "an invalid public atom movie was found in the movie". This makes me wonder if the captured video files might have gotten corrupted...any idea how or what to do now?
Looks like my current system has an ATI Radeon HD2600 card. I'm not super technical when it comes to most of this. Any ideas why it won't open or what I can do to get it to work around these issues? Having to re-load footage and start completely over on these sure would be a huge pain. Please say NO
Any thoughts are appreciated and welcomed.

  • Can I uninstall FCE 4 from and Old iMac, and reinstall in a new iMac

I have and Old iMac G5, last year I bought FCE 4, and now, I'm changing to a new iMac Intel Core processor i5.
Can i uninstall the FCE 4 and Install it to my new iMac Intel core Processor i5?
    Is really urgent.

    legrma -
Yes, you can do this.  Just uninstall FCE from your old G5 iMac; then install it on your new i5 iMac.
The license allows you to install FCE on 1 desktop Mac and 1 laptop Mac as long as you own both and do not use FCE on both at the same time.  You can move it from Mac to Mac as long as you abide by the license terms.

  • Dvcpro hd and Macbook pro intel duo core

Hello friends, I have MBP 15" duo core 2ghz ,2gb ram, can i edit dvcpro hd material in fcp studio. i mean will my MBP be able to take the load i plan to use express card, e-sata drives, or do i have to transcode it to dv format. it will be only 1 layer track.

If you use a e-sata express card with a external e-sata HD, then you will have enough performance. A e-sata drive will be just as fast as your internal drive.
Maybe if you have a nice 3.5 inch e-sata HD you will have better performace then the internal 2.5 inch laptop HD.

  • FCP 5 upgrade on intel duo core?

Can anyone comment on any stability issues with an upgrded FCP 5 Studio package running on an Intel powered machine? We are purchacing a new lap top and want to run shows edited on the G5.
    Thanks

We are purchacing [sic] a new lap top and want to run shows edited on the G5.
Run "shows" means what? And has what to do with the stability of FCS?

  • Keynote / PP to DVD (via FCP and DVD SP)

This is going to sound weird, but I have been working on this for a while.
I know FCP and DVD SP pretty well. I have a Powerpoint presentation (170 MB or so), 2 hours long. The person who did the PP presentation is not that great a designer, but it's basically Text with some graphics / picts.
I exported all the slides (over 100 of them) as TIFFs (highest quality, 720 x480.
Imported them into FCP. I did a 2 hour audio recording in Logic and imported that into FCP and line up the audio.
    All looks good.
Until an export, I have tried all type of FCP tricks I know. Like setting the Compressor setting in FCP to a higher codec, like Animation, Apple ProRes 422.
The QT looks fine as a small window, but when you double the size or go Full Screen, it looks horrible.
What gives? It just seems like once you go to DVD (Standard Def 480 lines) it just looks like crap as a movie, on a TV or on an LCD.
In Keynote or PP, when you present, it seems both KN and PP have some technology that auto up rezzes the slides so it looks great fullscreen on a 23" ACD, or 30" ACD.
I may just save in Powerpoint as a "Powerpoint Show", with audio attached to each slide, this seems like the best bet to get the best resolution.
I am not sure this can be done as a movie and then put onto DVD, but perhaps it can be done HD with HD resolution.
Can one uprez the TIFFs to HD rez (1080) in Photoshop or some other plugin (i know we did this with SD clips a few years ago with a plugin from a company in canada).
Then do an HD project in FCP (Apple ProRes 422) and then use Compressor as H.264, that would have to look pretty good.
Of course it would only be file based, unless one burned to Blu Ray, but who the heck has Blu Ray players, still not that common.

Thanks for the no reply, no help, great.
I figured it out, stay away from FCP for this,
Use Powerpoint and Keynote 08, then use iSpring (Pro) (Windows, Parallels or BootCamp) to export PPT file (with mp3 audio) to a Flash (swf) file. Plays great in any web browser with Flash plugin, or Eltima or other Flash / SWF player

  • FCP and Flash Animation Integration

I'm doing some animation in Flash and I'm exporting it as a quicktime .mov file. Next, I'm importing it into FCP and when I load it into my timeline, the resolution looks terrible. It looks fine when I load it into my viewer, but as soon as I put in the canvas, the resolution goes way down.
Does anyone know certain exporting/importing settings I can use with this method of Flash into FCP? Thanks!
    Rob

Put your Canvas zoom to 100%, render the footage and see if it looks any better.

  • Wanting to run FCE or FCP on iMac 2.4ghz CD2 with 4gig RAM. Enough Power??

Considering what used Mac to buy to run FCE or FCP.
Had considered a Power Mac G5 with 2+ghz dual processors and 2G+ of RAM.
Thinking maybe an iMac with Intel and equivalent power would be better (because of the Intel rather than PowerPC)
    Thoughts?
    Advice?
    Thanks

    Al and Martin,
Thanks for your responses. I bought a 2002 Quicksilver, not knowing what I was looking for, and the harddrive crashed immediately (message from God?). I was going to upgrade to a nice G5 but now I think there is no point and am trying to get something with an Intel. At this point, the budget has been reduced to 500 or less. I know there are some iMacs out there for less I just have to find the right one...
I'd like Dual 2hz with at least 2G of RAM. You think 2G is enough? I'll mainly be editing simple projects like DOCS and short narratives. No special effects, etc

  • Have FCP, new Sony HDR-FX7e and an iMac G5 (non intel core) please help

    Hi,
This is going to be a bit of a dumb question but i need to ask to be sure of the equipement i have and if i need some new hardawre n my mac to capture the video in HD.
I have an older iMac G5, FCP and a new Sony HDR-FX7e with Belkin 4-6 pin iLink cable.
When i try to capture video that i have filmed in HD 29fps, FCP brings up an error:
Something like: Codec is wrong and also hardware card. I am guessing that the video card is not capable enough as it is the one that came with the mac. Also i am trying to capture the video onto the Hard drive which has 198Gb left. I guess this needs a firewire drive capable of teh right speed.
I am guessing here so please advise as i am so new to this you would not believe and i know it is ambitious of me to expect to plug and play but i can pick it up quickly with the right advice.
Oh, the easy set up i used was on 1080i 60
    Thanks,
    Neil

    Neil,
    1) Your best bet is to get 5.1 if you do not have it yet. It is a paid crossgrade, but as long as you have the original install discs it is a simple process.
    2) The "e" at the end of your camera indicates that it is the PAL version I believe. Do you edit in PAL? or NTSC? Whichever you use just make sure to choose the proper easy setup.
    3) Since you have a G5, I would suggest using that as your video machine. You can get around the firewire situation in one of two ways. First, and best in my opinion, is to purchase a second internal SATA harddrive and install it in the spare bay, set this as your "Scratch Disk" and your off. Second, buy a PCI firewire card and install this in a spare PCI slot, then connect your firewire drive to this. Or, if you feel the need, do both.
    4) As for why iMovie works and FCP doesn't, the simple answer is the iMovie is a consumer program that has much lower tolerances than the PRO FCP. From what I understand, iMovie does not capture timecode and does not capture audio and video as separate files, among other things. To do these things there must be proper communication between the computer and camera.
    5) Another thought is that your camera may be set to downconvert the footage to SD on output. This might also explain why you got something in iMovie and not FCP. Check in the menu system for your cam and see if it is set to downconvert.

  • Importing .mov or .mpg and not getting audio in FCP

I have both an Mpeg (as well as an .mov ) file that play in QuickTime Player beautifully with audio. When I import it into FCP I only get the video. This has been happening with many files that clients are bringing in and have not figured out a way to get the audio track into Final Cut. Any suggestions? Why will it accept the video, but not the audio? Thank you for your assistance in advance!!
    BR

    Hi,
Mpeg is not an editing format.
You need to demux video and audio and convert the original Mpeg in a FCP friendly format like DV or QT.
Your solution is likely MPEGstreamclip. Here it is:
    http://www.squared5.com/
    It'll do what you need.

  • I can't upload or import videos from my iphoto library, into final cut pro x.  When i click, IMPORT MEDIA in FCP, It lists iPhoto Library as GRAY, and will not let me access it.  I need the videos out of there.  I have tried every way I can think of.

    Like the title says...
I can't upload or import videos from my iphoto library, into final cut pro x.  When i click, IMPORT MEDIA in FCP, It lists 'iPhoto Library' as GRAY, and will not let me select it.  I need the videos out of there.  I have tried every way I can think of.
I have also tried from the iphoto side, to export the videos or share them to final cut.  I have had no luck.
I have tried to drag and drop indidual video clips from iphoto to fcp, and the programs simply do not respond to each other
I can see in the OLDER version of final cut pro x, where it has IMPORT FILES as an option, it was possible.  I see this on forums and youtube videos of the older versions.
However, the newer version that i have, does not have IMPORT 'FILES' as an option, it is simply all lumped together as IMPORT 'MEDIA'
    Thank You for the Help

at the end, you say "import preferences", which program are you describing?
So im safer using footage that is remotely being pulled from iphoto...
    vs
using footage that is imported into FCP from imovie?
Is there anything i can do in fcp to make this footage more reliable or safer or more stable as i pull remotely from iphoto?
All the footage, and all the libraries to all programs, or on a new pegasus 12tb raid 5 setup fyi.

  • Premiere Markers export and import: Roundtrip via FCP XML not working

The objective of my project is to create a sports app that records markers and saves it in different formats of XML / CSV that I can then import in different NLE packages.
I have already succeeded with Vegas Pro but also want to support NLEs for MAC-OS.
In order to approach this analytically I have exported a very simple project with 1 sequence including 1 clip and 3 markers (with length zero and length > 0) and exported it
in FCP XML from Adobe Premiere CC and do a round-trip import it via FCP import into Adobe Premiere CC.
This round-trip does not work. Any insight why or any support what other mechanism will work?
    Thanks
    Thomas

let's go back to the purpose:
I have written a mobile app on which people can during a sports match capture the time of the important moments by pressing buttons.
I then convert the time information into an XML or CSV file that can be read by the different NLE. Given that Sony Vegas allows to import
markers independently from a sequence. Now I look at the same things for Premiere. This allows to edit the highlights very quickly vs watching
    the entire match coverage again.
I try to replicate that on Premiere through the FCP XML, but now that the roundtrip works, the issue is that FCP XML in its structure wants a sequence.
I could imagine to provide a dummy sequence that can be overlayed by the real content just to preserve the markers. Any ideas?
    Regards,
    TK

  • Hey, I have Final Cut Express 4.0.1 and a JVC everio camera, whenever i try to import my files to FCE via "Log and transfer", it just doesn't do anything, as if FCE doesn't know the camera is there, please help !

    Hey,
I have Final Cut Express 4.0.1 and a JVC everio camera.
Whenever i try to import my files to FCE via "Log and transfer", it just doesn't do anything, as if FCE doesn't know the camera is there,
    please help !

FCE 4.0.1 can only capture DV/HDV which is produced by cameras using Mini-DV TAPES and cameras shooting AVCHD which is a high definition format.
If your camera shoots standard definition on Memory Cards, DVDs or Hard Drives it will not work in FCE.
What is your camera's exact model name and number?

  • Are FCP and FCE user interfaces the same?

I was recently talking to a pro videographer and complaining that I miss the old iMovie, it was so easy and intutive to use, Final Cut Express confuses me, etc. He said that I should try Final Cut Pro because the user interface is better than FCE. Is this true? I thought that FCP and FCE have the same user interface?
I just edit HDV videos for my business or personal videos. I don't do anything "pro." I just want a video editor that's easy, intuitive, and fast to use. I don't edit videos often so I don't want to spend an hour reading the manual every time I edit a 3-minute video, i.e., use FCE. iMovie drives me up the wall.

No. Just download the trial version and see for your self

  • Color discrepancy with imported PSD between Motion and FCP

I've got a Motion project with an imported PSD file as a background element (the PSD was created in Photoshop CS2 for Windows, running under Parallels).
The PSD file consists of two overlapping curved shapes, one blue, one green (part of our corporate look). The colors (RGB) match our official guidelines.
I imported the Motion project to FCP and placed it on the timeline, on V1. In FCP, I then used a color generator to create a small blue rectangle which would serve as a border for a slightly smaller thumbnail image that would get overlaid later on. The rectangle is on V2. I used the exact same RGB values for it as I did in Photoshop for the curved shape.
Trouble is, the blue color in the shape that got imported into FCP inside the Motion project doesn't match the generated color.
    See this screenshot, in FCP:
    http://elamaton.no-ip.com/~jarkko/colordiscrepancymotion.png
Three blues: leftmost, the color generator resized to a small rectangle; on the center, the shape that I created in Photoshop and imported into a Motion project, dropped into FCP; rightmost, an instance of Photoshop CS2 running in a virtual WinXP in Parallels Desktop. You'll notice that the blues of the generator and Photoshop match, but the middle shape that travelled the CS2->Motion->FCP route is a different shade.
Narrowing it down further, I decided to import the PSD file directly into FCP (just to see if it'd match - it needs to go through Motion for the final product). Here's a screengrab of Canvas this time:
    http://elamaton.no-ip.com/~jarkko/colordiscrepancy_motion2.png
Again, from left to right: the generated rectangle, the directly imported PSD, the PSD in the imported Motion project. The first two match, but something in Motion or the Photoshop->Motion route screws up the colors of the blue-green shape (as well as the Työterveyslaitos logo on the top left, also a PSD, in the same Motion project). The blue shade is also incorrect in the Motion canvas, pre-import to FCP.
What's going on here, and how can I fix things?
The project settings are PAL DV in both FCP and Motion. No rendering has been done, I'm importing the .motn into FCP as-is.
Any help is greatly appreciated, deadlines loom...

First, double-check that your PSD is in RGB, but I suspect it it or it wouldn't even work in FCP. I suspect a gamma issue moving between the apps:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93794
You might try setting the colorspace in FCP to RGB or adding a gamma filter in Motion to adjust.

  • Import clips into FCP X version 10.0.8 and keep the original clip names

Can you Import clips into FCP X version 10.0.8 and keep the original clip names in the event original media folder? in version 10.0.8 it automatically allocates date / time of the event. I need it to keep the original clip name i:e Clip0100 event folder original media Clip0100. I am aware you can change the clip name to original once in FCP X, But it's the event folder original media name which I want to remain as the original file name.

    Hi Tom,
    Thanks for the response.
I am aware you can do this change in the Info inspector so the original clip name from camera is used in the event library browser, but it does not change the clip name in the Final Cut Events Original Mieda file. This still remains as an event clip name "2013-05-23 17_08_13". I need the original clip name Clip0100 to remain as Clip0100 at import. FCP X doesn't seem to allow this happen any more in version 10.0.8.
    Cheers
