Importing FCP XML

importing FCP XML, I get the error "The importer reported a generic error", Why? How do I import correctly? I did file> import, but got the error I noted.

Hi,
I am having a similar problem. I am trying to transfer FCP7 projects to Premiere CC. I did this once today with success. Exported xml from FCP and imported to Premiere without issue.
Later today I updated Premiere CC and my other Creative Cloud software. Since then I am having difficulty with this. I am performing the same steps and even tried importing through the media browser as suggested above. My error message suggests that something was corrupted. I checked out the path the message was showing me and there is no such file and I don't see why there would be. I have all the scratch disks set to a external hard drive.
I have attached a screen shot. Thank you!

  • How to import FCP XML to FCPX?

    The only problems people seem to be having is importing FCP XML into Adobe or other third party software. I can't even import it from one computer with FCPX to another computer with FCPX!!
    The following error message occurs when I try to import the XML file;
    The document "project name.fcpxml" could not be opened. The location is not available.
    In fact I get the same error message when re importing the fcpxml file into the project that created it!
    Any help would be great. Thanks.

    I can now import the fcpxml from one computer to another HOWEVER I still have a big problem.
    The footage that I shot was 1280 x 720 at 50fps - so I can create a smooth slo mo in post. In my 'original' project, I am usiing a 1280 timeline with a 25fps base so that when I 'retime' and 'conform speed' I get exactly what I want - the 50fps shot playing back at 25fps, thus creating slow motion.
    When I export the xml and import it into another computer, there is a problem - The timeline is correct - 25fps 720p resolution HOWEVER the media that was previously 50fps 720p is now 25fps 1920p....
    How/why does this happen and how can it be fixed?
    Presumably it is xml import settings but I'm so far unable to achieve this...

    Hi,
    Camera used:-Sony Pmw Ex3
    Footage       :- XDCAM  sp(1440 * 1080i) PAL
    Edited in      :-final cut pro 7
    Error            :- failed  to import .xml file into premiere pro cs5
    I tried  to import the .xml file into premiere CS5 ,it asked for the media files  to relink .whn i linked the .mp4 files it showed the  error messege "The  selected file cannot be linked becouse it has 2 audio channel(s) and  the clip was created with 1 audio channel(s).
    then i tried to relink the .mov instead of .mp4 file (which i  used in final cut pro on apple machine)i got  the error "Codec missing  or unavailable"
    what should i do???..i almost done all the  editing in final cut pro and i bought the adobe coz i thought i can  finish all the pending FCP projects in Premier Pro..??

    What is the CODEC in your MOV file(s)? MOV is but a "wrapper," like AVI. This ARTICLE will give you some background. It could be that you just need the proper CODEC, or it could be that it is a Mac-only CODEC, and then you will need for the producer to Export in another CODEC, that is PC-compatible.
    This ARTICLE will give you some background on CODEC's, in general.

  • Importing FCP XMLs in Adobe Premier Pro CC

    Yesterday I exported an older FCP7 project to XML for some client revisions.  Unfortunately Adobe Premiere Pro CC would not import the project.  I still have Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 on my system, and was able to import the project there.  Does Premiere Pro CC no longer support xml import or is this a problem in the new version?

    Thank you for the response.  Here is the error message I get in Premiere Pro CC.  To reiterate, I am able to import the xml in Premiere Pro CS6--just not CC.

  • "Not Responding" when importing FCP XML

    I'm trying to import a final cut XML file and it crashes everytime it gets to importing the files... Any tips or suggestions?

    Thank you both! I will try again tonight!

    The project conversion has a limited number of things that it can translate from FCP to PPro. Straight edits and simple effects and transitions shouldn't be a problem, but there have been issues with things like FCP's "Slug" and empty gaps in your FCP sequence. General practice has been to replace those sequence items with some sort of "physical" filler, like a graphic file that is simply a flattened black solid.
    Also, check out http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premierepro/cs/using/WSd9957a95a81082eb28f05af5126718c47be-800 0.html for more particulars about what transfers and how it's mapped in Premiere. I've moved relatively simple edits from FCP to Premiere with no problems, so it does work; it's really just a matter of finding out what is not jiving with the project transfer.

  • Premiere Markers export and import: Roundtrip via FCP XML not working

    The objective of my project is to create a sports app that records markers and saves it in different formats of XML / CSV that I can then import in different NLE packages.
    I have already succeeded with Vegas Pro but also want to support NLEs for MAC-OS.
    In order to approach this analytically I have exported a very simple project with 1 sequence including 1 clip and 3 markers (with length zero and length > 0) and exported it
    in FCP XML from Adobe Premiere CC and do a round-trip import it via FCP import into Adobe Premiere CC.
    This round-trip does not work. Any insight why or any support what other mechanism will work?
    Thanks
    Thomas

    let's go back to the purpose:
    I have written a mobile app on which people can during a sports match capture the time of the important moments by pressing buttons.
    I then convert the time information into an XML or CSV file that can be read by the different NLE. Given that Sony Vegas allows to import
    markers independently from a sequence. Now I look at the same things for Premiere. This allows to edit the highlights very quickly vs watching
    the entire match coverage again.
    I try to replicate that on Premiere through the FCP XML, but now that the roundtrip works, the issue is that FCP XML in its structure wants a sequence.
    I could imagine to provide a dummy sequence that can be overlayed by the real content just to preserve the markers. Any ideas?

  • FCP XML Import on Premiere CS4.0.1 Windows

    Great work on implementing FCP XML import on CS4.0.1. <br /><br />We have all our media mounted on a network share. On the Mac exporting a sequence from FCP and then importing into Premiere on the Mac works no problems. On Windows this is a problem, Premiere prompts for each of the media items, which is pretty painful to re-link again. <br /><br />Looking at the FCP XML this appears to be down to the <pathurl> area of the XML. These are typically file://server/Volumes..... etc... which doesn't translate to any of the file mountings on Windows, which are D: E: F: etc... mounted drives. Is there any way to help us? We can write a script to manually modify the XML. Can you explain how Premiere Windows likes to read these Mac URLs?

    Thank you all for your help. It still leaves a bit of a workflow problem. <br /><br />Basically we have some people ingesting / organizing content and maintaining on a network share. Duplicating the media is slow and moving it all into one volume is not too good either as it breaks all the relationships for others. Re-linking is good, but doesn't work if the material is spread across subdirectories and giving a key to link all the media together looses some of the benefit of having the export from FCP in the first place, it's just as easy to re-make the edit.<br /><br />We are only using cut edits, so this is quite simple. For users on the Mac using FCP and handing off to Premier it works fine, the problem is we want to hand off to Windows Premier. It's ok to run a script over the files to change the XML naming of the <pathurl> which seems to be causing the problem, but how to describe this in the Windows world?<br /><br />Thanks for all the help.... anyone from Adobe with any ideas?<br /><br />The problem as I see it is how to identify Mac OS mounts to a Windows version of Premier on XML import.

  • FCP XML import and linking .r3d

    I have a sequence that was originally edited in FCP (7.0) using ProRes proxies created out of RedCine. I remember that in Premiere 5.5 when you imported the XML, premiere re-linked the original .r3d's with all the scale and position attributes.
    When I import the XML into Premiere CC it doesn't reconnect the .r3d files.
    Did something change with CC or is there something wrong with the XML?

  • Additional audio channels being imported with XML from FCP. Merged Clips. Out of Sync

    Problem
    When I import an XML Interchange Format V5 file from FCP7 and then import into Premiere Pro CC, my merged clips now have 4 audio channels. 2 from the original file and 2 from the merged audio.
    Versions
    FCP 7
    Premiere Pro CC 7.2
    Workflow
    * Create merged clips in FCP
         * ProRes Video clip with camera audio
         * Stereo audio clip
         * Sync in Timeline
         * Delete unneeded audio tracks, reducing track on video clip to 1 mono track, centered
         * Drag to browser
    * Export XML Interchange V5
    * Open Premiere
    * Import XML Interchange File
    * Clips are imported, HOWEVER
         * Clips now have 4 tracks of audio
         * Tracks 1-2 are audio from the original Video clip
         * Tracks 3-4 are audio from the synced second source audio file
         * Additionally, tracks 1-2 are now OUT OF SYNC
    I cannot find a way around this. Clips now all have out of sync indicators on them. Merged audio is insync, and original audio is out of sync.
    I do not want to have to resync all of my audio, everything is tagged and organized into bins.
    Anybody know why this happens and a workaround?

    Ha ha, an excellently wry comparison.
    I'm using photo-jpeg because it was reccomended to me as a way to achieve greater image quality when exporting within the confines of youtube.

  • Premiere Pro CC "general error" when importing FCP 7 xml file

    I have edited a film using Final Cut Pro 7 on a Mac which is not mine (and now several 100 kms away). I would like to do some more editing on the project using Final Cut Pro CC  (trial version, to test if it does everything I need it to do before buying). I exported my film as an xml file to import into Premiere, but Premiere now tells me it cannot import because of a "general error". (I also have Premiere CS4 on my computer which crashes when I try to import the xml file - but that has some problems with reading my image material anyway, which is why I wanted to try switching to Premiere CC). Any hints on how I could solve this problem (preferably without getting the Mac back which I can't right now) would be much appreciated. Many thanks!

    No ideas? I found some entries on this issue for earlier versions of Premiere which in part included advice to update to a newer version - which in my case clearly does not apply. So any ideas for possible solutions would be great.

  • FCP XML project - pathurl: IP address needed instead of localhost

    Hi everybody,
    I need to load FCP projects (FCP 7.0) saved on another machine but the 'pathurl' tag containing 'localhost' is searching locally instead of network share.
    Please, any idea how to save FCP XML project file with 'pathurl' having the current IP address instead of localhost ?
    Thank you very much !

    Hi Dan,
    It's fairly unclear to me what exactly you want to do.
    Do you mind giving more explanation about current and desired workflow?
    You might give an example FROM WHAT URL to change TO WHAT URL in the XML.
    silky_road wrote:
    ...I'm processing those xml files from a file-based content delivery application and in the moment of processing the original hostname is lost.
    Do I understand correctly that FCP does not generate these XML files?
    So is your question about some import option in FCP?
    The user is overwhelmed way too much by this manual replacement immediately after saving the xml file (large number of files),
    So you are not the user? The user of what?
    You can replace multiple items at once. I suppose all files had some url like " /localhost/FCP documents/CaptureScratch/projectname/filename" and that you only want to change the 'localhost' part of that URL into some 'IPHost'. Or whatever.
    Have a look at the free [TextWrangler|http://www.barebones.com/products/textwrangler> texteditor. You might find its 'grep'-pattern replacement function usefull.
    that's why I'm looking for some FCP settings or, I don't know, maybe some local Apache redirecting will have something to do with it, I'm not sure.
    Is Reconnecting to the footage, once the xml is imported, no option for you.
    If no, why not?

  • How to import multiple XML files into one inDesign document without copy/paste ?

    I use InDesign CS6, and I have several XML files with the same structure. Only the data are different.
    I created  an Indesign layout with some tagged placeholder frames on merge mode, for automated layout.
    Today for each XML file I have to create a new InDesign document to import the XML. Everything works fine. Then in order to have all Indesign layouts one after the other into a single Indesign layout, I have to use the copy/paste function.
    I mean for example, copy the contents of all documents to the first one. Or add pages of other documents to the first one, then delete spaces between each page.
    So my question is the following:
    How to repeat this process without copy/paste function, knowing that the
    number of XML files could be unknown.
    Thank you very much for your answer.

    Yes, effectively I would like to catalogue the files into one collection so i can save as one PDF and Print as one.:)
    I know I could save each AI as a pdf them then merge the pdf's together in acrobat, but I have nearly 100 files so would feel more comfortable seeing them all together before print / saving.
    My concern is that if I insert them in Ai, will the file resolution reduce? and will the ai still be editable and would it update the indesign file?
    Thanks for the quick reply

    Use XSU to store in multiple tables.
    "XSU can only store data in a single table. You can store XML across tables, however, by using the Oracle XSLT processor to transform a document into multiple documents and inserting them separately. You can also define views over multiple tables and perform insertions into the views. If a view is non-updatable (because of complex joins), then you can use INSTEAD OF triggers over the views to perform the inserts."
