Importing Files just flashes grey screen

I have Aperture 2.1.2, Mac OS X 10.5.5. Today I tried to import some new photos, and when I attempt to import files all I get is a grey screen that pops up over and over. I can't get this screen to stop unless I close Aperture. The program does not lock up, and I can continue to move around and do many other functions, but the grey window just pops up over and over, and I cannot import.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

  • I can't watch 4OD or Demand 5 using firefox. I used to be able to - now there is just a grey screen

I can watch 4OD and Demand 5 using Internet Explorer, but I get all the annoying adverts. I used to use iGoogle instead, which got rid of all the adverts, but recently this has stopped working, and now there is just a grey screen where the video should be. So I tried Firefox instead, which is just the same. I assume that Channel 4 and Channel 5 have done something to stop people watching their programmes on iGoogle or Firefox without having to endure the adverts. Is there any thing I can do. I run Windows 7 Home Premium on a standard Advent desktop.

I could not run anything on Demand 5 because of my IP adress - "THE VIDEO YOU ARE TRYING TO WATCH...), so I could not check further.
Please check if all your plugins are up-to-date. To do this, go to the [http://mozilla.com/plugincheck Mozilla Plugin Check site].
Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions.
If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow ''Update'' button or a red ''Update now'' button, please update these immediately.
To do so, please click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure.

  • Help? iMac has no access to files. Only grey Screen. Boots up to Browser.

I need help! My iMac either has been attacked by Virus or Worm. I can boot up to a Firefox Browser but that is all. The iMac has no files accessable and the Desktop is just a grey screen. I tried inserting the Mountain Lion Disk but could not access it, and it can not be ejected. No external Disk is accessable.
I don't know what to do?

If you're running Mountain Lion (there isn't normally a separate install/restore disk unless you specifically made one from the downloaded installer file, so not sure what disk you put in the drive) try booting into the Recovery HD, select Disk Utility, click on Macintosh HD and select 'repair disk'. If any changes are made click on repair disk again until you get a clear pass. Restart as normal from the Apple menu.
Restart holding Command=r to boot in the Recovery. More info here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
To eject the disk try restarting holding down the mouse button until the disk is ejected. Other possibilities for ejecting a stuck disk here (although you obviously need a working machine to be able to try them):

  • Macbook just getting grey screen after Itunes update

I have a macbook that won't boot up. It was updating some software, Itunes included and required a restart. Well, it never restarted, just a grey screen. Is this a known issue? I know my macbook is just out of warranty (of course). Is apple doing anything about this or is this just my computer? Please help, I'm freaking out!

A grey screen (no Apple logo) on startup, be it after an update or not is typically an indication of hardware failure on the machine. It's possible that the update "broke" a startup file, which would prevent you from booting into the OS but typically if that were the case the machine would get further into the startup sequence.
Do you have access to the system restore discs that came with your computer? If so, put the first one in, restart the computer and hold the "option" key. Are you presented with icon(s) that look like a HD or CD-ROM?

The following support article is somewhat outdated. Where it refers to booting from an installation disc, you should boot from your recovery partition (if running 10.7 or later) by holding down the key combination command-R at the chime.

  • Mac book is  starting up funny. I have a flashing folder and question mark or just a grey screen. IT at university is backed up all week and said it's the hard drive! Ugh need help in class now will be calling ASAP! Help please.

I get either a grey screen or a flashing folder question mark. IT at my university said it wouldn't be till after the weekend and than still a few days to get it fixed so she told me to try to back it up myself because that's the only sure fire way to ensure I get all my Info. So any hints or help? They did a hardware test and they think it's my hard drive. I did a r+command restart
And it won't let me verify the disk.... Or download mountain lion.. Okay I know I sound clueless but can anyone help me?

Question (?) Mark, Blinking Folder, or Gray Screen at Startup
These are related but not identical issues. Their causes are outlined in Intel-based Mac- Startup sequence and error codes, symbols. Solutions may be found in:
A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac
Mac OS X- Gray screen appears during startup
In most cases the problems may be caused by:
Problem with the computer's PRAM - See Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM.
Boot drive's directory has been corrupted - Repair with Disk Utility.
Critical system files are damaged or deleted - Reinstall OS X.
The disk drive is physically non-functional - Replace the hard drive.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
The main difference if you are using Lion or Mountain Lion is that you must first boot from the Recovery HD:
    Boot From The Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstall Snow Leopard Without Erasing The drive
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing The Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Flashing grey screen and background pic when log in, can't access anything!

Please bare with me, this is a long one since I'm including every little detail in hope that it helps my desperate situation. I have been receiving "startup disk is full" messages for about a month now on the MacBook Air OS X Version 10.8.5 I bought new last summer. I am currently traveling throughout Asia with limited internet access, but am working from the road, which makes having a working computer critical. I checked online and followed all the advice I understood on how to clear up space: moved all my documents and pictures to Box/Dropbox, deleted unused applications, and emptied my general trash and iPhoto trash. This only stopped the startup disk full messages for a week before they started coming up again and again. I checked my storage and it said the "Other" was taking up most of the space. I realize that this could mean any number of things.I downloaded omnidisksweeper, but didn't want to risk deleting anything when I didn't what they were for. If I remember correctly, of the things I recognized, it said that my Mail was taking up a lot of space, but that made sense since I have 3 large accounts I work from. I deleted the couple files that were in the "recovered" file. Last week one of my email accounts kept resenting me the same 30 messages for a couple days. I couldn't figure out why. A couple days ago, I went to turn on my laptop after shutting it down the night before. I was able to log into my user, but once I logged in, my background picture and this blank, grey screen started alternately flashing. My dock on the bottom does not show up. In the top right corner it shows my Dropbox box icon (which I can click on and it says it's up to date, but nothing happens when I try to open it) but none of the rest (battery, Internet icons, etc). When I click on the apple in the leftmost corner nothing happens. In the top left corner the Finder toolbar shows up, but the drop down menus only open sometimes. When I click on anything from the drop down menus nothing happens. Sometimes a window pops up that says that "the last time you opened Finder, it unexpectedly quit while reopen ing windows. Do you want to try to reopen again?" The the meantime that grey screen is still flashing in the background. I have chosen "don't reopen" and "reopen" before, but nothing happens. I tried pressing down control, command, delete as suggested but nothing happens. I end up having to hold down the power button, and choose the shut down when the usual shut down, restart, sleep message shows up. I am able to access the Guest User account without problems and created a new User. However, the disk is, of course, still full, so I'm right back where I started, except that I'm unable to access my main user account that actually has all my stuff on it. I searched online and haven't been able to find anything similar to my situation. Please give me any suggestions you might have, I'm in Indonesia at the moment and have nowhere I can take it for help, but still need to work! I'm not very tech savvy (obviously), so please try to be specific! I've run the disk utility "Verify Disk" thing but it says everything's ok. I downloaded omnidisksweeper again onto the new user I created with the limited space I have available, but don't really understand what anything on it means! It says that most of the space is taken up as follows: 9.5GB private, 4.5 GB applications, 3.7 GB system, 3.6 GB library.
Is there anything  specific I should be looking for? Is there anything I can do to get my original user account to work?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If you don't remember the password, you have to reset it. As you have a new MacBook, you are using OS X Mountain Lion, so follow these steps > http://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4101

  • Just a grey screen and an Apple logo!

I installed 10.4.11 yesterday on my old mac, and today when I started it up for a brief second it showed a small folder with a question mark in it which then turned to a folder with the smiley face mac logo and then the grey screen with the Apple, but then freezes there! I put in the install disc and went to Startup disk, but it just keeps 'thinking'* and won't let me select the '10.4.11 on HD' folder!
Any suggestions, or should I just reinstall?
(* - thinking, as in little swirly loading wheel!)

The folder with the ? indicates it can't find an OS to boot from. So, possibly the OS is corrupted or the hard drive is bad. Boot from the startup disk. (restart and hold down the 'c' key). From the menu Utilities select Disk Utility. Does the hard drive show up? If so run Repair Disk. If not you may have a hardware problem. It would help if you elaborated on the specs of the "old" mac.

  • My macbook pro wont open up, only just a grey screen

Now it just wont turn on. I mean, it turns on but its just a gray screen but no apple logo whatsoever. Ive done the reset nvram, i think. It restarted cause i heard the sound of the laptop resetting, but after that its just a gray screem again. I cant even do internet recovery or safe boot because the apple logo doesnt even appear. • No image when embedding a video/movie into my PDF file, just a black screen?

I cannot embed videos with an image on my computer into my Acrobat Pro 8 file. I get only a black screen, which I must click on to play the video. How do I import the visual image along with an arrow for playing or a navigation bar at the bottom for play/pause?

If you're creating video content in Acrobat 8 then it's "legacy media", which has a different structure to the Rich Media Annotations created by Acrobat 9 and later. RMAs use Flash Player and there are inbuilt choices for the play control buttons when you create a new annotation, but legacy media hands over control of the video rendering to whatever external application it can find installed on your computer, so what you see will vary.
The poster frame for a video can be controlled when the annotation is created - either sampled from the video or selected manually from an image file.

  • Can't import files to Flash? (Mac)

(This is my first forum article anywhere so keep that in mind)
I'm trying to make a Flash animation in Flash CC 2014, but all my files that should be importable are unselectable and the ones that shouldn't are. And they probably don't even work! Plus there are no up-to-date articles on the internet so I can't figure this out that way. What should I do? I need to be able to do this soon. Please help!

you can't edit the video in flash.  you should check adobe's premiere pro if you want to edit videos.
one the other hand, to a limited extent  (eg, you want to add objects/text over or adjacent to your video), you can make it appear that videos are edited in flash by either
    a. import the flv/f4v to a flash pro timeline and add objects in layers above (or adjacent to) the video.  (upside: no actionscript needed.  downside: loss of video fidelity with importing)
    b. use cuepoints added to the video (can be done in ame and in flash pro) and use actionscript to trigger the additional of objects above or adjacent to your video.  (upside and downside the opposite of above)
