Importing Flash Problems

Hey y'all,
I am currently working on a website in DreamWeaver CS6. I imported a Flash Professional CS6 slideshow via the little "import swf" button; however, in Dreamweaver, the slideshow never plays. At first it had a popup saying that something "harmful" was referring me to macromedia and Flash Player stopped it. I could allow it by hitting the "Settings" button. Well, I hit the settings button and nothing happened. So, I went into my code and got rid of the following line:

That fixed the pop up problem, but then on Dreamweaver it just kept saying that I needed to update Flash.
I have Flash 11.5, so that doesn't make any sense.
I went into the non-live design view. By clicking on the box where my flash should be playing, all of the properties popped up in the bottom tab like they were supposed to. I can even play the slideshow in that little tab, and it works just fine. It also correctly plays in my Flash program.
So, I've uploaded it to the internet, as I am completely stumped.
http://myfirstphp.hostzi.com/Wales/index.html
- you can see the browser recognizes it because when you hover over it the title pops up. But, it never plays.
- when I right click where the movie should be it just says "movie not loaded"
http://myfirstphp.hostzi.com/Wales/slideshow2.swf
- the slide show, playing just fine on its own page
Thanks in advance! I'm a bit new to Dreamweaver and Flash, so any help would be much appreciated!

Are you aware that Flash content is invisible to the world's most popular web devices -- iPhones, iPads, iPod Touch, newer Androids, etc... as well as others who have not installed the latest Flash player & plug-ins for their browsers?
Best advice, don't use Flash on the web. Switch to jQuery which works in all modern devices.

• Importing in flash problem

This appears when I export from captivate to flash:
"A swf animation slide has been imported. The following files
must be made available at publish time:
myfile_Slide_7_0.swf
myfile_Slide_10_0.swf
Please make sure you publish the project to
"C:/Documents.../My Captivate Projects." "
These slides are the only one that contains drag'n'drop
animation, and they are simply skipped in the imported flash
document, and there is no audio that I imported in slides.... so I
guess that I will import audio in flash timeline, just because it's
synchronised with that swf from captivate....
can anyone tell me how to fix the problem, I would be very
grateful...
btw, sorry for wrong posting at eLaerning Forum
d-_-b

Hi,
Unless you save the FLA file and these swf files in the same
folder, you will nto be able to view them at runtime.
Audio is no more assigned to timeline in Captivate 2. It is
controlled using ActionScripts. Search for Sound in the FLA file.
thanks

• Flash problem persists after 6 months...does this new information help?

Hi All!
I posted my problem almost 6 months ago, (I'll paste some of the info below to bring you up to date), but I STILL can't access only FOUR sites because I get a "Plugin file is missing" error, (after my previous post I found 2 other sites). I've been trying to solve this problem off & on, but I got more dedicated the other day because I'll be needing access to these sites very soon. I found some new information today that I hope will solve this awful problem; however, since I'm not very technically inclined I know I have to ask a "Flash Expert", so here goes....
I run Windows 8 & I use Mozilla exclusively. I updated Flash the other day to version 15.0.0.152 & I wanted to make sure the plugins had been updated, so I opened the "Flash Player Settings Manager" & under the "Advanced" tab it lists:
NPAPI Plugin Version 15.0.0.152
PPAPI Plugin Version Not installed
Is it significant that the PPAPI Plugin is "Not installed", or does Mozilla only require the NPAPI plugin?
My second question regards the installation of Flash. I know that when a program is problematic, it sometimes helps to uninstall & reinstall it...I recently had a game that went nuts & that's the procedure I had to do. Also, someone on Mozilla's forum said they were having a Flash issue & they went to your site & downloaded the .exe AND the .msi Installers from the Distribution Page, then manually installed them & their problem was resolved. Would this help me resolve MY Flash problem? If you think it's worth a try, do I have to uninstall Flash first?
Well, that's all the new info I have. I have to figure this out before December because that's when the nest-cam comes back on...I really have to get this problem fixed! I'll paste my previous post below, but I hope the uninstall/reinstall method will be the answer!
Thanks in advance for your help!
Best Regards,
DogPal
Here's my previous post:
Flash 13.0.0.214 does NOT work on some sites, but works fine on all others in Using Flash Player
Hi!
I watch several wildlife nest-cams every day running Windows 8 using Firefox 29.0.1, but yesterday morning, (after I'd already watched the 6 cams I view every day), I started getting a solid, black screen with, "Error loading plugin: Plugin file not found", on TWO of these sites.
My attempts to resolve the problem were:
1. Checked all the other web-cam sites I view daily, and there's only a problem on 2 of them.
2. Went to You Tube, Facebook & other similar sites and I can view streaming media.
3. Refreshed pages-when that didn't help, I closed & reopened Firefox & still 2 sites with "plugin loading error"
4.  Completely shut-down my laptop & rebooted.
5. Did "System Restore" to earlier in the day when ALL web-cam sites were working.
6. Went to Adobe Flash site & verified that I had the most current version...I do, & I saw the animations on Flash site.
7. Verified my Flash Plugins in Firefox...AGAIN...they're all activated & up-to-date
8. Checked & re-checked ALL the web-cam sites I view every day, (for, at least the 10th time), and the
same 2 sites are still showing the "Error loading plugin: Plugin file not found" on a black screen. Even
though the video isn't seen the "chat" area is functioning, (I don't know if that's important, but I
thought I should mention it).
9. I posted the issue on Firefox's Forum but no one has an answer since Flash works everywhere except
for 2 sites.
I've tried everything I can think of to troubleshoot this, but as you can see, I've had no success in solving this "mystery".
As for the 2 sites I can't view, they are:
http://www.pixcontroller.com/eagles/    And
http://www.westmorelandconservancy.org/BlueBirdWebcam-1.htm
I've been watching these sites for MONTHS, so why I can't view them all of a sudden, well, I'm clueless, (I guess you already figured that out...ha ha ha). I was watching the 2 sites listed above early yesterday morning, then when I looked at one of the other cams I view and came back to these 2 sites, I got the "error message".
I hope you have a solution for me, as I'm desperate! I'm WAY behind in my documentation for these 2 sites, so hopefully you'll have an easy answer. If it's a technical thing, please use LOTS of details, as I'm not very technically inclined.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Best Regards,
DogPal
P.S. I just checked on another site that offers many different wildlife cams, & I CAN view the "Pittsburgh Bald Eagles" if I go through: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/pittsburgh-bald-eagles I'm sure this means something, but since I don't understand this technical stuff I don't know what that is! (I told you I'm clueless!)

I definitely see a problem with the pixcontroller/eagles site on Windows 8.1. It works fine for me in the same version of Firefox on Windows 7. It's unclear to me whether it's a Firefox or a Flash Player issue, but I'm happy to look into it further and get some bugs filed.
As a temporary workaround, both sites work fine with Google Chrome and Internet Explorer.

• Is this possible - Import Flash swf which then imports an external swf

Hi,
I was wondering if it's possible to (as the title says) to import an swf which itself imports an external swf?
Explanation - I've got an scrollbar created in flash...and to keep it tidy i've created the scroll 'content' as another swf which is imported into the scrollbar swf.
Whenever i publish/render the project the scroll bar appears but the content does not.
Is it possible to do this?
Captivate > imports flash > which imports external swf
Cheers
Craig.

Yes that shouldn't be a problem at all. You probably won't be able to see it working when you preview the project from within Captivate but if you publish it and manually copy/paste the external swf to the publish directory, it should work just fine.

• Slowing down an imported Flash file

Hi,
Using Insert - Animation, I've imported a file with an .swf extension. My only problem is that it is playing too fast in my Captivate movie. Outside of Captivate, it plays slower.
What options do I need to tweak in order to change its playing speed?
Thanks very much in advance.

Hello, this is indeed the cause for the speed of the imported Flash. I do not think you can change this in Captivate. If it was produced in Flash, you have to change it in Flash itself. I do not believe you want the speed of the CP changed from 30fps to 380fps.

• Importing flash video shifts cells

When I import flash video to my pages that were cut in
photoshop, the cells shift around.
Does anyone know what the problem might be?

To expand a little on what Walt says, this symptom is the
"Poster Child" (so
to speak) for why one should not use graphics programs to
write HTML.
Applications like Photoshop and Fireworks are marketed
partially on the
basis that they can build your page for you, and this is
true, but what they
do not tell you is that the resulting pages are suitable ONLY
for
prototyping, and NOT for production-grade web pages. The
layouts that are
built are monolithic and 'brittle' meaning that as soon as
the "shape" of
the contents on the page change away from what was on the
canvas in the
graphics application when you exported the HTML, the layout
shifts and
'breaks'. They do their job well, these graphics apps, but
only if you
understand where and when to use them....

• Can flash tell me which subclass I use? ie. import flash.events.*;

If I import to flash in a class:
import flash.display.*;
import flash.events.*;
import flash.net.*;
Can flash then somehow tell me which I use?
ie:  import flash.display.Sprite;
imported from import flash.display.*;
My problem is that my SWF is getting rather large, and I have many different functions.
please help :-)

What are the Events are you can use in your program like
If you can use only MouseEvent means just put it
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
try it..

• Imported Flash files are not playing in published output

Adobe Presenter 7 with the latest updates and PowerPoint 2007
When I insert a Captivate 3 generated Flash file into a Presenter slide, the flash file does not play in the Published output. The slide's image is displayed for 5 seconds and then stops.
After further review, I found that my imported Flash files are not included in the output. Any ideas?
Terry

Hi Terry,
It's been awhile since I've messed around w/ Captivate 3, but I have a quick question: does your Captivate content include a skin.swf file? If so, then you may have to look at a couple of different solutions to fix the playback problem that you're seeing with Presenter.
One fix includes eliminating the skin by turning the borders option off which will eliminate the "_skin.swf" file. That'll be one less file to deal with, but you need to do that BEFORE publishing in Captivate. From there, you should end up with one swf file from your Captivate content; and then at that point you can include that swf in your Presenter content.
And while we're at it....are you using any Full Motion Recordings at all? I've seen instances where, as you reported, Captivate content will run for awhile, but then the screen "goes blank"...so I'm just curious to know if your Captivate content in actuality has many more files than the "base" swf---which is probably the swf you included in PowerPoint.
Having said that, can you share more information about what your Captivate project looks like (in terms of the number of swf files you're working with, etc), and let's see if we can resolve this for you.

• Flash problem after software update (on 10.6.8)

I'm having flash problems on *some* macs after one of the recent software updates (june 2012).
On my school's 10 iMac's (2010), I can't play flash games anymore *in safari*. Chrome is ok.
An example site, is http://www.barryfunenglish.com/games.php (select any game)
But on my school's 6 MacBook Pro's, I can - both safari and chrome.
It was working 2 weeks ago on all computers.
I'm using Software Update server from our server to update all the macs, so it's possible there was an update problem.
Why is flash missing on the 10 imacs safari? But not on the macbook pros?

AppleJason wrote:
so did Apple uninstall flash on safari with it's latest update? do you know the reason?
Yes, it was blacklisted by Adobe for security vulnerabilities. OS X now checks to make certain you are running a safe version and disables it if you aren't.
With the latest update, you now have the option of having Adobe doing a "Silent Update" in the background without your having to do anything. I would recommend you implement it.

• Importing flash symbols from an external SWF using URLrequest

Hello.
I'm trying for several days now to properly import flash symbols into a flex application.
i can't only @Embed because the swf file that contains the skins will not be available locally so i need to use URLRequest.
This is what I've got so far.
1. I created a flash file, lets call it foo.swf that contains several elements in the library and each element has both `Export for ActionScript` and `Export for runtime sharing` on. one of the elements is called 'test' which is a movieclip of an image.
2. i created a flex project that creates the swf flashSkins.swf that contains the following Wrapper class:
package
import flash.display.Sprite;
public class Wrapper extends Sprite
[Embed(source="foo.swf",symbol="test")]
[Bindable]public static var test: Class;
I tested to make sure that this class properly fetchs symbols from the flash file properly
using the following code:
<fx:Script>

public var wrapper:Wrapper;

</fx:Script>
<mx:Image source="{Wrapper.test}"/>
it loads the image and shows it properly.
3. I created another swf file that will fetch the flashSkins swf and import the Wrapper class from it. this is where i fail.
public function loadSkins():void
bgLoader = new Loader();
var bgURL:URLRequest = new URLRequest('http://files.xpogames.com/flashSkins/flashSkins.swf');
bgLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.INIT,onLoaded);
bgLoader.load(bgURL);
public function onLoaded(e:Event):void {
var clazz:Class = bgLoader.contentLoaderInfo.applicationDomain.getDefinition('Wrapper') as Class;
var a:Object = new clazz();
theimage.source=a.test;

</fx:Script>
<mx:Image id="theimage" />
I tried using getDefinition with 'wrapper' or 'Wrapper' but on both cases i get an error that the variable is not defined.
any ideas?

Did you try using the Event.COMPLETE instead of Event.INIT?

Unfortunately, your out of luck.

As your search yielded, Flash is better suited to handle native Fw files/artwork as library assets.

• Importing Flash into PowerPoint

Hello - I have a Flash file that I would like to import into PowerPoint. Below are my questions. I am hoping to get some guidance on this.
First a few pieces of information:
1. I use a Mac but have a Parallel system at work so I have access to Windows PPT 2008. I am using Flash CS5.
2. The Flash file is not huge, it's just these animated curtains that open up to reveal a logo and text.
Questions:
1. I have found the only way to import the Flash file is to export as a .mov and then import that into PPT. This works great EXCEPT for that the text and logo look blurry in PPT. I have no idea why.
2. Is it possible to export a .mov file with just the curtain animation but with a transparent background so that when I import into PPT, we can just type the text directly within PPT and not have to include that in the Flash file?
3. I read online that you can import SWFs into Windows PPT but I have not been able to get that to work either.
Thanks in advance for any and all information!!
