Importing from a set of Oracle tables with a minimum development effort - SSIS 2012

Hi,
I'd like to import into a SQL Server 2012 db a set of Oracle table without creating a specific data flow task for each table to import. Is it possible to accomplish a such task?
Thanks

Hi pscorca,
As Arthur suggested, the simplest approach is to make use of the SQL Server Import and Export Wizard. This tool enable us to select multiple Orace tables at one time, and even create the destination table automatically. Then, we can save it
as a package without running it immediately. In this way, there are multiple Data Flow Task created automatically for each source table.

  • Updating Oracle table with info from Sybase query

    I hope this is the correct forum for this question.
    I am fairly new to Java and JDBC. I am trying to figure out what the best method for updating information in Oracle tables with data from a Sybase table. I would prefer to use Oracle’s transparent gateway but this is not an option my company will pay for so I am creating a java stored procedure and using JDBC to connect to the Sybase database.
    The process I think I need to go thru is
    1.     Query an Oracle table to get the records that need to be updated and the “key” information to query the Sybase table with.
    2.     Use that result to query the Sybase database to get the fields that need to be updated in the Oracle table for those records.
    3.     Update the records on the Oracle table with the data from the Sybase query.
    I know I can just do this procedurally, row-by-row, but I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to accomplish this with SQL and no loops. Is there a way to make a result set available as a “SQL table” for another JDBC query?
    Basically what I would like to do is:
    OraQuery = “ select sybinfo from sometable where updated_date = null”;
    Statement orastmt1 = OraConn.createStatement();
    ResultSet Orars1 = orastmt1.executeQuery (OraQuery);
    SybQuery = “select update_date, sybinfo from sybtable where sybinfo = Orars1.sybinfo”;
    Statement sybstmt = SybConn.createStatement();
    ResultSet Sybrs = sybstmt1.executeQuery (SybQuery);
    OraUpdate = “update (select update_date from sometable, Sybrs where sometable.sybinfo = Sybrs.sybinfo) set update_date = Sybrs.update_date”;
    Statement orastmt2 = OraConn.createStatement();
    ResultSet Orars2 = orastmt2.executeQuery (OraUpdate);
    This may not be possible but if anyone has done something similar and wouldn’t mind sharing I would appreciate it. If there is a “better” way of accomplishing this I am open to suggestions.
    Thanks

    you can try using cachedRowSet() for the Oracle side query.
    The rows in this could be populated using the sybase side query's resultset and then all of this could updated into Oracle in one shot.

  • Updating an oracle table with data from an xml string

    Hi - I need help with the following problem:
    We have a table in the database with a field of xml type. We are going to take each string that gets inserted into the xml type field in the 'xml table' and parse the data into another oracle table with corresponding fields for every element.
    once the record gets inserted into the 'real table' the user might want to update this record they will then insert another record into the 'xml table' indicating an update(with a flag) and then we need to update the 'real table' with the updated values that have been sent in.
    The problem that I am having is that I do not know how to create this update statement that will tell me which fields of the table need to be updated.(only the fields that need to be updated will be in the xml string in the 'xml table').
    Please help me with this - ASAP!

    Are you wanting to upload the file through an Oracle Form or just upload a file? If it isn't via forms, then you should probably post your question here: {forum:id=732}
    You also should post the version of Forms, Database, etc...
    As far as uploading files via a text file, I personally like to use Oracle External Tables even in Forms. You can Google that and there is plenty of information. If you search this forum, then you will see lots of people use UTL_FILE in forms, but you can Google that also for more information.

  • Copy data from Berkeley DB to Oracle tables

    Hello
    I need to get data from Berkeley DB to Oracle tables.
    Any help/tools to this?
    Thanks for your help in advance.
    So far
    1. I asked developers to dump BDB in flat file.
    2. Created external tables & loaded into permanent table using CTAS.
    Cheers

    Hi Shekhar,
    External tables managed by the Oracle DB Server are a way to go.
    However, I would suggest using any of the Berkeley DB Core APIs (C, C++, Java) along with its appropriate correspondent on the Oracle DB side, that is, OCI (Oracle Call Interface, C API), OCCI (Oracle C++ Call Interface) and, respectively, JDBC or SQLJ. You may also use the Oracle DB Precompilers, Pro*C/C++ along with the correspondent Berkeley DB API, C/C++.
    If you have Metalink access, you may consult the KM Note 756126.1, where I've discussed how to import Oracle DB data into Berkeley DB databases (the opposite of what you're trying to do), using OCI on the Oracle DB side and the C API on the Berkeley DB side; there is a code example in the note to explain how to perform this task.
    Doing the data copying the other way around is not difficult; you'll need to iterate through the Berkeley DB database with a cursor and use appropriate OCI DML statements (INSERT INTO) to write the data to the Oracle DB table. Note that you may also use OCI to execute the DDL statements (CREATE TABLE) to create the Oracle DB table into which data will be copied, or do that separately using SQL*Plus, PL/SQL dynamic native SQL etc before copying the data.
    Bellow are the links for the Berkeley DB documentation page where you'll find each of the BDB APIs and the Oracle DB Application Development documentation section where you'll find the development guides for Oracle Call Interface, JDBC and SQLJ:

  • Data Load from XML file to Oracle Table

    Hi,
    I am trying to load data from XML file to Oracle table using DBMS_XMLStore utility.I have performed the prerequisites like creating the directory from APPS user, grant read/write to directory, placing the data file on folder on apps tier, created a procedure ‘insertXML’ to load the data based on metalink note (Note ID: 396573.1 How to Insert XML by passing a file Instead of using Embedded XML). I am running the procedure thru below anonymous block  to insert the data in the table.
    Anonymous block
    declare
      begin
      insertXML('XMLDIR', 'results.xml', 'employee_results');
      end;
    I am getting below error after running the anonymous block.

  • Upload text file to oracle table with checking and aggregation

    Hi Friends,
    I am new to ODI.  I have encountered a problem which is specific to ODI 11G (11.1.1.6.3) to upload text file to oracle table with checking and aggregation.  Would you please teach me how to implement the following requirement in ODI 11G?
    Input text file a:
    staffCode, staffCat, status, data
    input text file b:
    staffCodeStart, staffCodeEnd, staffCat
    temp output oracle table c:
    staffCat, data
    output oracle table d:
    staffCat, data
    order:
    a.staffCode, a.staffCat, a.status
    filter:
    a.status = ‘active’
    join:
    a left outerjoin b on a.staffCode between b.staffCodeStart and b.staffCodeEnd
    insert temp table c:
    c.staffCat = if b.staffCat is not null then b.staffCat else a.staffCat
    c.data = a.data
    insert table d:
    if c.staffCat between 99 and 1000 then d.staffCat = c.staffCat, d.data = sum(c.data)
    else d.staffCat = c.staffCat, d.data = LAST(c.data)
    Any help on fixing this is highly appreciated. Thanks!!
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Dear Santy,
    Many thanks for your prompt reply.  May I have more information about the LAST or SUM step?
    I was successful to create and run the following interfaces p and q
    1. Drag text file a to a newly created interface panel p
    2. Filter text file a : a.status = ‘active’
    3. Lookup text file a to text file b : a.staffCode between b.staffCodeStart and b.staffCodeEnd
    4. Drag oracle temp table c to interface panel p
    5. Set c.staffCat : CASE WHEN b.staffCat IS NULL THEN a.staffCat ELSE b.staffCat END
    6. Set c.data : a.data
    7. Drag oracle temp table c to a newly created interface panel q
    8. Drag oracle table d to interface panel q
    9. Set UK to d.staffCat
    10. Set Distinct Rows to table d
    11. Set d.staffCat = c.staffCat
    12. Set d.data = SUM(c.data)
    However, the interface q should be more than that:
    If c.staffCat is between 99 and 1000, then d.data = the last record c.data; else d.data = sum(c.data)
    Would you please teach me how to do the LAST or SUM steps?  Moreover, can interface p and interface q be combined to one interface and do not use the temp table c?  Millions thanks!
    Regards,
    Chris

    Enclose the call to the getUser api inside single quotes
    '<%=getUser("USER_NAME")%>'ID being a number can be used directly but USER_NAME returns a string that needs to be quoted

  • Uploading a file (.doc, .xls, .txt) into an Oracle table with BLOB column

    Hello All :
    I have been trying to figure out for a simple code I can use in my JSP to upload a file (of any format) into an Oracle table with a BLOB column type. I have gone through a lot of existing forums but couldnot find a simple code (that doesnot use Servlet, for eg.) to implement this piece.
    Thanks a lot for your help !!

    Hi.
    First of all to put a file into Oracle you need to get the array of bytes byte[] for that file. For this use for example FileInputStream.
    After you get the byte array try to use this code:
            try {
                Connection conn = myGetDBConnection();
                PreparedStatement pstmt = conn.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO table1 (content) VALUES(?)");
                byte[] content = myGetFileAsBytes();
                if (content != null) {
                    pstmt.setBinaryStream(0, new ByteArrayInputStream(content), content.length);
                pstmt.close();
                conn.close();
            } catch (Exception ex) {
                ex.printStackTrace();
            }or instead of using ByteArrayInputStream try pstmt.setBinaryStream(0, new FileInputStream(yourFile), getFileSize());Hope this will help...

    I have no idea what "Oracle Hetrogenius Services" is, so I can't help you with that, sorry.
    SQL Developer might also assist you. SQL Developer can connect to SQL Server as well as Oracle and has some tools for migration. See the documentation for details:
