Importing from Bridge

I am new to Lightroom. I have been using Bridge and Photoshop since CS3. I have my own system to name and place folders into Windows My Pictures. I also do Batch renames for images in each folder I upload, including a name and date on the folder of images, which is placed in a folder that is labelled by year. This works nicely for me. But when I open Lighroom and try to import by going to my C drive, and finding the folders, it does not import where I would like it to, does not carry over the information, and in fact, makes a duplicate folder in Windows My Picture.  How do I get it to import exactly what I have done in Bridge?

A lot of it has to do with how you have configured the import dialog. You can choose to import into one folder, then you can choose to drive where you want the folder to be placed, and you can choose the name of the folder. At the top of the import dialog you can choose whether to add or copy, and you would want to simply add the images. In fact, if you are just adding images that are already on your hard drive you shouldn't even have to choose a folder. And, if you are adding images. They are the same ones that you have worked on in Bridge. So the information should be there as far as I can see. How are you configuring your import dialog?

  • Can't import from Bridge

I can't import any effects from Bridge anymore. I get the error 'can't import file "XXX.ffx" unsupported filetype or extension' and I can't 'place in After Effects' because it's greyed out?? Really annoying.

Note the last part of Rick's answer: You can still apply animation presets through the Effects & Presets panel in After Effects.
There is a bug in the After Effects CC 2014.1 (13.1) installer that causes the wrong startup script to be used. We're working on a fix for this now. In the meantime, you can just apply animation presets directly in After Effects.

  • Multiple images in pscs5 when importing from bridge

    Hi Guys
Hope someone can throw some light on my problem?
When I bring an image from bridge into photoshop CS5 the image sometimes (more than I would like) breaks up into multiple images in the same window. (see attached example). It was suggested that my video driver may need updating but on checking I have the latest drivers!
This problem has only been happening for about a month and  everthing was working fine before that. Im running win7pro 64 bit and am running photoshop from my ssd drive. The display driver is a Nvidia Geforce 240 which again has been fine previously. Would it be worth unistalling/reinstalling the program, just a thought!
Any help from you guys would be more than welcome.
    Thanks trev

    Chris and Noel
Thank you both for your advice. Chris I tried the update driver from Nvidias web site and it also said that my driver was uptodate 'do you want install anyway' which i did! It made a slight difference but still the problem showed up, so I disabled the Open gl drawing box in preferences menu and then reset it changing the advanced setting to normal in the advanced menu. This seemed (not holding my breath) to have done the trick! and Noel I saw the option for what you have said but I didnt have the confidence to go manual, that'll be my plan B.
Thanks again guys, I'll be back for more advice

  • MetaData import from Photoshop CS2 Bridge to Lightroom??

    Dear all,
    I have 2 questions.
    1) I am trying to figure out whether Metadata import from Bridge to LR will be supported?
    2) I am not satisfied with Bridge as a Data Asset Management tool and due to an urgent project have to organize all of my >250 Giga data. ASAP. Any suggestions for a workaround until LR is released for purchase?
    Thanks in advance,
    Siana

    1. Yes
    2. Can't help with that, sorry.

  • How do I find images in LR 2.4 (imported from CS4 Bridge) that have color labels already assigned In CS4 Bridge? I have set both Bridge and LR color labels text to match (eg Green for green, etc).

How do you find images in LR 2.4 that have been imported from CS4 Bridge and have been assigned a color label in Bridge?  I have set both LR 2.4 and my CS4 Bridge to match the text for each color to be the same (eg. Green for green, etc), and the filter search in LR 2.4 shows that a label has been assigned, but I am unable to identify and locate the specific images in LR 2.4 that have had a color label assigned from CS4 Bridge.  I have tried to search via attribute, metadata, text, etc...Is it necessary to re-assign color labels all over again, image by image, in LR 2.4, or is there a way to automatically have the color labels assigned in CS4 Bridge be assigned and searchable to the images after they have been imported into the LR 2.4 catalogue from the Bridge program?

    JohnM.
I closed both programs and re-imported photos and re-tried the action of having LR  read the XMP metadata from the CS4 files, and it seems to work now just fine...don't know why now and not before, but thanks much. Is there a way to have LR do this automatically upon import of images from CS4?  I tried to do this with an import metadata preset, but no luck.  It seems as if I can only do this once the images have already been imported into LR, and then to have to have LR read the metadata from the CS4 Bridge files.  thanks gain.

  • Importing material from Bridge to AE (beginner)

In a recent AE tutorial I was enjoying, I was prompted to go to animation and browse presets to try them out, which launches Bridge.  When I double clicked the preset I wished to use, AE displayed a message:  After Effects error:  Can't import file, unsupported filetype or extension.  The extension after every effect in Bridge is:  ffx
I tired calling Adobe, but held endlessly...
    Thanks!!!

Animation presets aren't files that you import. They are collections of layer properties that you apply to layers. Applying them from Bridge is (I think) a pain; it's much easier to apply them through the Effects & Presets panel. See this page for information about applying animation presets (and effects). See this page for an overview of what animation presets are and how you work with them.
But, really, since you're new to After Effects, I very strongly recommend that you begin from the beginning and work your way through the getting-started resources here:

  • How To import collections from Bridge cs6 To Bridge CC

How To import collection from Bridge cs6 To Bridge CC??
    thx

How To import collection from Bridge cs6 To Bridge CC??
A collection is a bunch of aliases to the original files in their original place. If you have upgraded to CC on the same machine you can use the same collection, on a different machine it will possible not find the correct location again.
On a Mac the path for the saved collections is : User / library/ application Support / Adobe/ BridgeCS6 / collections. Inhere are the saved collections showing the names you gave them. You can copy these collection files to the same location in Bridge CC.
If you have a different machine you best first choose the collection and add a keyword with the name of the collection to all the files in this particular collection so you can use the find command to easily recreate the collection on your new machine.
Maybe someone with more knowledge of Windows can show you the correct path but it should be something similar as on a Mac.

  • Dragging PSD from Bridge imports as a menu?

Why does Encore create a new menu if I drag in a .psd file that I want to put into a slideshow? Shouldn't it ask a question if it's going to be that pompous?
    Thanks,
    Laz

    Hi Neal,
While "normal" may equate to the intended use of PSD files in Encore (i.e. menus), it certainly does not equate to how users consider PSD files for use with Encore.
I suppose it may be a good idea, though, to ask the user if they want to import PSDs as slides or menus when dragging them in from Bridge. Since Encore has a slideshow feature you'd imagine users will drag entire folders of PSDs into the project window from Bridge.
I think Bridge is a wonderful program, but I'm not too sure that the suite of products that Adobe makes are taking full advantage of its power in terms of usability.
    All the best,
    Laz

  • Importing movie from bridge

I am fairly new at this game so be gentle. I recently found a great tutorial on You tube on how to insert a movie into Photoshop using Image Ready. However when I drag the file from bridge and then go to my animation button making sure the file is not to large it reads that the file is 0 sec long am I missing a step here....why is the imported file 0 sec long when it is at least 10-12 secs long before I cut it down in I mage Ready.
    Is ther a easier way

oh and i also have a registaration code for quicktime

export videos to ipod video format....
I believe you get the award for the dumbest user I've seen in a long time.
Commiting software piracy of an Apple product on an Apple public forum might not be such a good idea.
Including your e-mail address was just the icing on the cake for me.
Oh... I also reported you to the hosts. I'm sure they'd be interested in what you're offering to other users.

  • Importing stacks from Bridge to Lightroom

Hi all. I am looking to convert and import my photos from Adobe Bridge to Lightroom. In doing so however I haven't been able to maintain the stacks that I've created in Bridge (i.e. have the stacks show in Lightroom). Is this simply not possible? Can I get Lightroom to import the Bridge catalogue information some how?

There's really no benefit to using two different photo management programs, Bridge and Lightroom. Furthermore, if you are using Lightroom, you ought NOT to be moving or rating or managing your photos in Bridge in any way. Lightroom is not a file browser, it does not know when you move photos in another program.
You assign stars in Lightroom; you manage/organize photos in Lightroom preferably by assigning keywords and other metadata, but if you absolutely must move them to a different folder (which I don't recommend), you do that in Lightroom too. Specifically in this case, the Filter Bar in Lightroom allows you to find any photos with a specified number of stars (for example, all 5 star photos) without you actually having to move them to a different folder.
To fix the existing problem, each photo that has been moved has either a question-mark icon or an exclamation point icon. The way you fix the problem is to point at the question-mark or exclamation point icon and then a dialog box will ask you to find the photo in your folder hierarchy. More details are here: Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders

  • How do I import GPS information for all of my images from Bridge into Lightroom 5.3?

After importing my images into Lightroom 5.3, I discovered that the GPS location data was imported for some images, but not for others.  When I checked the metadata files for the same images in Bridge, the location data was present for all of my recently downloaded images.
Why would Lightroom import the GPS data for some images and not others?
Is there any way to import the location data from the Bridge metadata files into Lightroom?

    Tony,
Thank you for your suggestion.  I had already tried several approaches along those lines without success.  In the end, the GPS data was still present in Bridge metadata file for each image, but not in the Lightroom metadata files for the same images.
So, I went back to Lightroom, and did some further exploring on the internet for solutions.  Just as I was wondering whether or not the problem might be rooted in my download presets (i.e., setting copyright into, etc.), I stumbled across a reference by a Pentax owner that identified the same problem.  Here's the link:
    http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/115-pentax-k-5/203274-gps-data-not-importing-into-light room-4-2-a.html
In a nutshell, I can download all of the metadata, including the GPS location information, but only if I do NOT use any metadata presets.  If I use a metadata preset when downloading my images, no GPS data can be seen in the Lightroom metadata files, but it does import into Bridge's metadata files.  I've now tried this both ways, several times now, and have verified this result.
I also tried re-downloading images with no presets, and replacing (copying over) the image from my original download.  This did not solve the missing GPS data in the Lightroom metadata.  From this point, all that I could think of doing was removing all of my recent downloads from Lightroom, and starting over.  However, I'd already started editing my images, and I didn't want to lose that time.
So, I re-downloaded all of my recent images from my memory cards as a copy into each file without any metadata presets.  Then, after selecting the copy first, followed by selecting the original (order is important), I toggled 'Sync Metadata' under the Metadata tab in Lightroom.  Voila, the GPS data appeared in the original metadata.  When this is done for all of my images, I will delete the second copies in my files.  Once I am satisfied that everything is okay, and my images are backed up satisfactorily, and only then, will I reformat my memory cards.
This whole experience has surfaced an interesting quirk in Lightroom, or in my Lightroom settings that I don't understand.  It may be something that Adobe might want to look into further, if others are finding a similar problem.

  • Import collections from Bridge CS5 to CS6

    Hi
I have a system of collections organized in Bridge CS5 that I would like to continue having in CS6. I see a handful of CS5 preferences being imported as I installed CS6, but not the collections. Any tricks to this?

I have copied the Collections folder from Bridge CS5 to CS6 (in Snow Leopard).
The images are all there, but the order has changed.
Is there a better way to do this?
I can't open both versions of Bridge at the same time in order to copy the proper order....
I suppose i could print screenshots of the CS5 collection and then correct it in CS6.
There must be a better way! This could take hours.

  • Missing stars when importing edited images from Bridge - why?

Why do my previously rated images from Bridge appear without the stars after conversion to DNG and importation into Lightroom? I am having to use the "Update DNG Preview and Metadata" under the Metadata menu to see the stars again. I thought with CS3 and Lightroom 1.3 metadata between Bridge and Lightroom automatically shows up?

    It works on my system.
(Rated in Bridge Content Tab by clicking on Star Rating on bottom of thumbnail frame.
Went to Lightroom, Import Photos from Disk; chose "Copy photos as Digital Negative (DNG) and import", chose a folder to "Copy to" etc.
The photos appeared in Lightroom with Star Ratings on Thumbnail frames and in the metadata panel.
    I used Bridge CS3 V2.1.1.9, Lightroom V1.3.1 on Windows XP Pro SP2.)
