Importing from CDs - dropouts

I'm trying to import my collection of CDs, which is several hundred CDs, to my IPod using ITunes. I am not running any other apps during the import/rip process. My settings in ITunes for the import are AAC-128kbps with the error correction checkbox checked and the play songs while converting unchecked. Numerous CDs seem to import correctly but when played back, there are numerous drop-outs, static, etc. Some of the CDs are older and have some scratches, but they do play properly when played in a cd player or on the pc isself.
Any suggestions on what to do next to try and fix the problem?

I hope you'll take this the right way, but I would suggest using a CD ripping program with secure ripping to make sure that the first rip is a charm every time, especially since you're talking about several days of work with this project. Otherwise, it will likely be just a matter of time before you find these random pops and skips on playback with your iPod, and realize that you have to start the whole process over again.
You can, for example, use the freeware programs EAC or foobar2000 to rip your CDs securely, essentially guaranteeing perfect rips every time. Each of these programs can also be configured to encode the output files directly to AAC format using the Nero Digital Audio Codec for use with iTunes and iPod. As an added bonus, iTunes will play back the files gaplessly without even having to determine gapless playback information, which is quite a time saver when you import loads of files into your library or send them to your iPod for the first time.

  • IPhone won't play music imported from CDs or mp3s not downloaded from itunes

When I first downloaded iOS 7, all of the music I had in my iTunes synched to my iPhone, but now new CDs I just imported and previous songs I imported from CDs won't synch (I've tried over wifi and usb).  When I click on songs on my phone that were from CDs, they look as if they are going to play and then skip immediately.  Mp3s I downloaded do the same thing.  Mind you, everything was working fine until updating to iOS 7.0.4.  I've been looking around the forums and have found that problems like this are relatively common and it's a shame Apple hasn't done anything to fix it.
When my phone is hooked up and I click on "on this iPhone", it says the music from CDs and mp3s is on, but the titles come up gray with these litte circle things next to them
Just checking now, I noticed some songs I bought from iTunes are doing the same thing.
I tried manually synching, but when I click to drag the songs into my phone, the section that has music, movies, etc. just flashes and nothing happens.  I know something is wrong because I just put a ringtone onto my phone the same way.
Oh, I also noticed that when my iPhone is synching and the steps go through at the top it skips steps 3, 4, and sometimes 5 (The Apple symbol pops up instead then goes straight to 6 and 7) so I know it's not recognizing the fact I put a bunch of new music in iTunes. Also, when I look at the bar at the bottom that shows how much memory is on my phone, this shows up:
and that Documents and Data thing was not there before.
Can someone please give me ideas on how I can stop this rediculousness without buying a new phone?

Did you already try the suggestions mentioned in this article?

  • Tracks imported from CDs prior to 11/08 not playing correctly

95% of the tracks I imported from CDs prior to November of 2008 will not play back correctly in I-tunes or on my Ipod. Tracks that have been imported since then are fine.
If I go directly to the MP3 file on my hard drive and play it through Windows Media Player it plays fine.
Import settings are MP3 High Quality 160 kbps.
If I delete the track in I-tunes and re-import it from the MP3 file on the hard drive it still doesn't play correctly or won't import it at all.
If I delete the track and corresponding file on the hard drive and then re-import the track through I-tunes it is OK.
Is there anyway to "repair" the old transfered files or am I looking at wasting 20 hours of my life deleting and re-importing all of these tracks?

  • Songs Previously Imported from CDs No Longer Available

It seems like after every iTunes software update some or all of the songs I imported from CDs are no longer accessible from my library (the exclamation point). This is an incredible hassle to reload these tracks. Help please.
    Thanks.

Upgrading iTunes does not cause media to disappear from the computer.
The message is telling you that the media is not where iTunes expects it to be.  Either the user or some software on the computer moved (or deleted) the media.  No one here can tell you where that media is.  Find it on your computer or rip the CDs again.

  • HT1351 Music imported from  CDs will not synch to my iphone or ipad - even though it's ticked and set up correctly. Looking at other posts this seems ot have been an issue for ages. The latest itunes software update hasn't fixed it

This has now been ongoing for over a month - the lastest software release hasn't fixed it.
I can import music from CDs - the tracks are ticked for synching and all the associated rigmarole is correct.
Problem is when I synch, apps go across but imported music doesn't. It just gets to step 5 - waiting for changes to be applied  - and then does nothing until it eventually finishes synching but no music has come across.
    Same issue on my iphone.
I have looked at some solutions on forums but they seem complicated and I don't understand why apple haven't yet fixed this (or why you can't contact them). Seems a basic fundamental service that they are not supplying.
Having spoken to people in the family, its seems I'm not laone with this problem (unless you have a mac......)

I had this same problem with my new MBP 15", but only with the USB port on the left side. The USB port on the right side worked fine. Perhaps the ports on the left don't have enough signal energy for the iPhone.
Anyway, try using a different USB port, and if that doesn't work, perhaps you could try a powered USB hub.

  • Where can I find a tutorial on importing from CDs

I would llike to import music, song title, album name, singers name, and plctures from CDs, and afterward know where the files are stored on my hard disk.  I can't figure out how to use the settings in iTunes Preference and Windows default settings. Where can I find tutorials, and tips?, The User Guide is driving me nuts.

Importing To Computer (via Windows Media Player): All your music is saved to your Music Folder on your computer. Most CD (if got from retail store or public library) it should already shows the song title, album name, singers name, and plctures.  After ripping. Its saved to your Media Player and your computer.
Importing To Computer (via iTunes): All music is saved to your Music Folder on your computer. Unlike Media Player, iTunes will ALWAYS convert videos from WMA to either MP3 or MP4-Audio, or M4A.
BTW: IF you rip music from a RECORDABLE or REWRITABLE CDs from friends, most likely, it will only show the song(s) title and artist.

  • My Dell died last week.  How do I recover the tunes that I imported from CDs into iTunes?

My Dell hard drive had a bad boot sector, so it wouldn't boot.  I pulled the hard drive, and now have this hard drive connected to my new Windows 8 laptop via USB.  Please Note:   I had imported about 2000 tunes into iTunes (from CDs, via the iTunes "Import CD" button).   QUESTIONS:    Where are the music files on my old hard drive (IE, what folder are they contained in) from the music that I had imported into iTunes?    What file format are they?    How do I find them on my old hard drive, so that I can copy them onto the hard drive of my new laptop?    What folder should I put them into on my new laptop?   THANKS!!!        (PS - I have bought my last Windows computer!   Nothing but Mac computers for me, from now on!!)

What OS was on the old system? The iTunes library is normally at <User's Music>\iTunes, <User's Music> is normally \Users\<User>\Music or \Documents and Settings\My Documents\My Music depending on the OS.
If you've already installed iTunes delete the empty library it has created and then copy the entire iTunes folder into <User's Music>, if not copy the old folder over before installing iTunes.

  • Transfering songs imported from cds to new library

PLEASE someone tell me this can be done! I talked with customer service, and they said unless they were purchased on iTunes, I'd have to add them back myself. I have close to 2,000 songs I imported from my cds!

  • Songs I imported from cds are no longer in my iTunes account.  How can I get them back without having to reload them on?

There are 158 songs that were once in my iTunes that are now missing.  I put all of them on from cds.  The only songs that are left are ones that i have purchased.  When i pulg my ipod into my computer to add recent songs that i have bought it tells me that i need to erase and sync my ipod with my itunes library or cancel.  Well i dont want to erase my ipod and sync it with my itunes because that is 158 less songs that would be on there.  On the apple website it said that songs from cds are in the itunes media folder but when i went there it is still just my purchased songs.  I dont know what to do except reload all of them back on there but i really dont want to since im not the one who took them off!!  Im not entirely sure when the songs went away but i recently updated to itunes 10.4 (i think its .4) and im not sure if that is why they are gone. Thank you in advance to any help!!

  • Not all songs will import from CDs

When importing CDs certain songs won't import, the computer will say that the file name is too long or invalid, and usually the song has a longer title, but they may be a coincidence. I'm worried that if I get new cds I won't be able to import all the songs, but I just got the new Norah Jones cd and was able to import all of her songs. I am wondering if it depends on how old the cd is, since the on I tried importing today was a Linda Ronstadt cd, not exactly recent. But my Prince Caspian soundtrack won't import all the songs either, so this can't be the case. I would love to solve this problem and appreciate all who will answer this!
P.S. I tried changing the name but once imported the song will not play

I'm having this issue also. I don't have the 5 but I upgraded my 4 to the new iOS6 and updated to the new version of itunes as well, now I cannot copy any music from my computer to my phone, it just stays grayed out and doesn't actually copy.

  • How to import from CDs without duplicating...

    Hi all -
Finally have the time to upload "complete" CDs of music - holdover from back in the day when my hard drive wasn't big enough.
What's the best way to do this so I don't duplicate?  SKIP duplicate songs?  I thought that's what I did but still ended up with some duplicates.  Is iTunes Match being turned on to blame?
I'm sure this has been covered before but before I spend hours doing it.
(ie say back in 2003, I imported 4 of 10 songs from Cd "A".  Load CD "A" in 2015 and say skip duplicates?  Or does it import and replace?).  Whatever I started doing - still ended up getting duplicate songs....
    thanks.

I have never done this.  Does it offer to skip duplicates?  If it doesn't then you may have to select with the checkmarks which ones it imports.  If you don't it likely won't overwrite but would create a duplicate.

  • Gracenote CDDB service not submitting correct names for songs when importing from CDs

Gracenote CDDB service not submitting correct names for songs from purchased CDs

You are looking at the 1st Gen Nano manual.
You need to look at the 2nd Gen Nano manual here -> iPod Nano Features Guide
Not much difference but that page 16 shows iTunes 6. You have iTunes 7.
You have to first select the CD.
The Import button is now at the bottom right.
Insert the CD and select it in iTunes and the Browse icon (eye) at the bottom right will change to Import.
Go to iTunes prefs -> Advanced and tick "Automatically get CD track names from Internet".

  • Some songs imported from CDs are no longer explicit, iTunes Match has made them the edited versions.

I've been subscribed to iTunes Match and have had no major issues with it so far. However, I noticed recently that some of my songs which are explicit versions on my home computer have been converted to the edited version in iTunes Match. The odd thing is that different songs on the same album will be edited and unedited (e.g. The Blueprint 3 - Empire State of Mind is edited while On to the Next One is unedited). Does anyone have any idea how to fix this or why it is happening?
-Also I use iTunes Match on multiple devices. My iPhone 5 running iOS 6.1, MacBook Pro & iMac running 10.8.2 and Lenovo Thinkpad running Windows 7. I've experienced the problem on the Lenovo & iPhone. I haven't checked my MacBook Pro because I don't listen to music on it much. The actual music is located on the iMac HDD.
    Thanks!
    Jordan

This is a know issue and has been discussed extensively on this forum. You should inform iTunes Store support about the mismatches.
So you have the "correct" versions of the songs on your iOS device, turn off iTM, sync the explicit tracks via USB, then re-enable iTM.

    Thanks for understanding.

First of all, you are not talking to anyone from Apple here, this is user to user forum.
Second, if you are having problems getting the iPod recognized, start with these troubleshooting articles.
Your Windows PC doesn't recognize iPod.
iPod appears in Windows Explorer but does not appear in iTunes.
