Importing from D20 Raw + Jpeg is not "hiding" the jpeg. Why?

Unlike EVERYWHERE else I read, when I import RAW + Jpeg images Aperture is displaying both on the screen, side by side. I would MUCH prefer if it would do like I keep hearing about--just display the RAW file. Is there a preference menu item I missed or any other tip to help me?

Just a word of "caution": what's most familiar often seems best. I had that problem when PV2012 was first introduced - I would re-edit an old PV2010 photo and compare, and liked PV2010 version better - very frustrating, until:
* I got better at editing in PV2012, and
* I weaned myself from aspects of PV2010 that I'd come to prefer, and learned to appreciate PV2012 differences.
Similarly, if you've gotten used to certain characteristics of in-camera jpegs, they may seem superior to Lr, at least for a while.. hint: try different camera calibration profiles - sometimes one or the other is better (and they can be very different, or very similar..), depending.. - after a while, consider creating your own profiles.

Import From Device "show preview" Does not work for RAW (Canon T1i/500D)

Not sure if anyone else has seen this. I just got a canon T1i (500D for you Europeans). When I plug the camera into the computer and select Import From Device, and select "show preview" in the import window, only the JPEGs show thumbnails. All of my RAW images show up as grey boxes. This is the first digital SLR I ever owned, and the first time I am really using lightroom. This kills my workflow plans, as I ususally download images into folders, and name them, by category. Without seeing the thumbnails, it is impossible to know what category what images belong to.
Anywone have any ideas? Does this happen with all RAW images on all cameras? Is it a T1i problem?

OK, I have the previews working now, which is good. Here is how I am using the tool.
1) put the card in a card reader
2) select import from device
I noticed a couple of things that are very frustrating:
1) I Don't see a way to delete photos from the import tool, either manually or automatically after import. I seem to have to delete thing through explorer (I am on windows xp)
2) There is no indication of whether you have downloaded an image already or not. The software that came with the camera puts an arrow on all downloaded pictures. This is very nice if you are not importing all your pictures at once.
3) My camera takes movies. There is no way to import them along with the rest of the files (yes I know lightroom is not a movie tool, but having to use another program or explorer is annoying). Furthermore, every time I try to import files when there is a movie on the card, I get an error saying movies will be skipped. The pics still import, but it is irritating.
Any suggestions? I am trying to figure out a good work flow. I would import everything and than organize the files, but I don't see any easy way to resort files and rename them en-mass. I tried moving files in explorer, but, as could be expected, LR could not find the files afterward. I re-synced the folder, but that lost the changes I made on images (I did not have them saved as DNG, so the modifications were in the side car, I guess).

Just copy the entire /Musci/iTunes/ folder from old computer to /Music/ on new computer.
The libraries will be identical (date added, ratings, artwork, etc.).
You can do this easily over the network.

I'm not that familiar with how FaceTime works. I know how to set It up but I don't use it. I just know that you can't activate in the UAE. I believe that you can activate in any country that permits it's use. Whether you will need a new ID or not, I can't confirm.
You can Google this and get all sorts of articles on workarounds. Apparently if you set up a VPN you can use it in the UAE. Here is one article that I found.

I understand you are having issues with a couple of songs you recently purchased. It may be that these songs did not download fully, or correctly. The best troubleshooting step may be to delete the songs from your library, and re-download using iTunes in the Cloud (if available in your country).

I have similar message but for me the Verizon guys said they unlocked it and when I actually connected to iTunes using Verizon sim card and then did the restore as new iphone then everything worked well and at the end i saw the message "Congrats, your iphone is now unlocked" and then I did the set up as new iphone for my kid.
Once new apple ID was set up, then I removed the verizon SIM and then inserted prepaid t-mobile sim card and after the phone booted up then I got the same message like above...."not supported"
What do i do now? I think the phone is unlocked right?

Update the iPhone 4s to iOS 7.1.1 and then Restore from your iCloud Backup.

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the iTunes Library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.

Unfortunately it uses the single term "transferring library" for two very different moves; relocating just your media (not recommended unless you really need this configuration) and relocating media+database (really your whole "library"). If you put it in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there. (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

Yosemite Photos not importing Nikon D40 RAW+JPEG

I tried to import RAW+JPEG photo sets from an SD card of a Nikon D40 and my first impression was that the photos were imported, they appeared on the Last Import album but then I noticed these issues:
1. I was not able to edit the photo
2. I was not able to select the RAW file to edit it
3. When tried to import from Facebook, the Finder interface was not able to located the imported photo even though it appear on Photos app
I thought that the issue was related to the SD card so I connected the D40 via USB and imported again. Nothing different happen, the same 3 issues.
My workaround was this:
1. Insert the SD Card in the slot
2. Open Finder
3. Navigate through the folders to locate the NEF file (RAW file)
4. Copy the file to the Desktop
4. Open Photos
5. Import the NEF file from the Desktop
Edit was succesful and Facebook was able to upload it.

Nikon D40 + SanDisk 4GB Ultra II
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011)
     Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
     Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

How to have iPad (iOS 5) import only the JPEG from a RAW JPEG pair?

I have an iPad 2 16 GB, running iOS 5. I also have a Canon EOS 7D. I purchased a CF Card Reader for the iPad (see http://store.micgadget.com/card-readers/280-ipad-2-cf-card-camera-connection-kit .html) so that I can view and edit photos quickly in the field, without having to lug my laptop around. To make this easier, I set my camera to shoot RAW+JPEG. I shoot with the smallest JPEG files possible, still a relatively large for the iPad 2,592x1,728, with the idea that I'd only import the JPEG files to the iPad, but still have the RAW files to work with when I get back to my computer. This works great with one exception: the iPad doesn't allow me to import only the JPEG files, but grabs the RAW files along with them. As you can imagine, this fills up my iPad rather quickly, and takes quite a bit longer to import than if it only grabbed the JPEGs.
So here is my question: How do I have my iPad import only the JPEGs from the RAW+JPEG pairs on the memory card?
One workaround that helps slightly. If I connect my iPad to my computer after the import, I can go in via Image Capture, select all the RAW images and delete them, leaving the JPEGs behind. This is an underwhelming solution, but does save space after the fact.

What you are seeing is how Safari works now in iOS 5. There is no way to get that icon in Safari now. There other much better browsers available in the App Store. Look at iCab Mobile, Mercury, Atomic, ....
I have been running iOS 5x for so long now, that I don't even remember if that icon did appear in earlier iOS versions

Deleting all the JPEGs from my RAW+JPEG pairs

Parts of my Aperture library are only JPEG, only RAW or RAW+JPEG. I am ready to dump all the JPEGs where a RAW is available. Any idea how to do this? I'm not too great at navigating Aperture. I'd prefer to do this from within Aperture, but any suggestions would be great.
(Come to think of that, I would also like to do that with some of the pictures I have imported to my iPad with the Camera Connection Kit.)

I guess you could use the brute force option and export them as masters, delete them from the library and then re-import only the RAW files. You would lose any adjustments and metadata work that way.
With less brute force, but even more work - a slightly modified procedure of Thomas's approach.
Make sure, you have all images set to use the raw version as original (From the main menu bar: Photos > Use Raw as Originals).
Export the Raw originals, with IPTC tags included.
Flag the old versions in the library.
Import the raw originals again and create an album with both the old and the new versions, sort it by capture date, so that you have the old versions and the newly imported side by side.
Use the Lift & Stamp tool to transfer all metadata tags and edits from the previous version to the new versions.
Delete the flagged old versions.
If only a few of your images have adjustments or tags, you could use a search for "Keywords are applied" or "Adjustments are applied" to selectively stamp only the images that need readjusting.
The quick and dirty approach - simply deleting the redundant jpegs from the Aperture library - will not work - I tried with a test library. Aperture will not forget that there is supposed to be a jpeg version and you will continuously see warning messages that thejpeg is missing.

Some JPG and AVI files imported from camera to iphoto, but not all

I just imported from camera to iPhoto using card reader and half the pics and a couple movies came over. The rest aren't recognized by my iMac, even though they say JPG and AVI and still run fine on camera. I installed Perian plugin a while back at the recommendation of one of you, which solved that problem and I just installed the recent update. I used time machine to restore old version, but that didn't work. I don't know if this is a Quicktime (v 7.4.1) issue or a problem with the flashcard. I tried opening via photoshop and iMovie. Photoshop CS3's message says "Could not complete your request because an unknown or invalid JPEG marker type is found." iMovie, when I try to drag movie into it says "The file could not be imported: ... Quicktime couldn't parse it: -2048". Hopefully one of you knows what is going on. Thanks!!!

Are you running a "referenced" or "managed" library?
Give this a try:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.>Click on the Add Library button,
2 - select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
3 - make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.
4 - now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
5 - in the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed. Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2: Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

Get an error message when importing from iPhoto says, "There is not enough free space on your Aperture Library volume to import the selected items. It is estimated that you need at least 44GB of free space."

I'm guessing this is an extrenal drive, correct? If so make sure the library you're importimng into is really located on the external drive. By default Aperture creates its library in your home pictures folder.

Incomplete import from OE in XP. Not all folders imported, and no messages imported.

I have OE installed in WindowsXP. Installed Tbird. Tried import tool to import everything from OE. Only a few of the folders showed up, and no messages were imported. Tried uninstall and re-install of TBird...no help. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

have you used Version 24. Import is fundamentally broken in 31 for import from outlook. I assume it is no better for outlook express.
