Importing from Desktop

While trying out how to use Aperture's 'filing' system I decided to start over and copied all the images in a project to a folder on my desktop. If I look inside that folder all the images are there. For some reason, when I try to import these images back into Aperture either into an existing project or as a new project, the images are not appearing. In Inspector I can see the folder, and the filenames of the images within are all shown, but grayed out and, according to Aperture, there are no images to import. What am I missing?
Thanks.

Yes...You're really goooood! I had the 'Do not import Duplicates' box checked. So, if I read this correctly, Aperture is recognizing that these images already exist in it's library? I'm not sure how it knows this- there must be some tag it checks...but that's cool. Thanks!

  • Importing from desktop issues

Wheneve i try to import songs from the desktop, itunes freezes and i get the spinning beachball, (or what ever it is). I then have to force quite itunes. THis happens whenever i try to import anything that is not coming off a cd
    any ideas?
    thanks

Thank you for the response, Mike
Reinstalling and deleting the threceipts and moving the "itunes library" and "itunes usic library" files to the desktop seems to have worked... Thank You!
I have one quick question though
Now that i have moved the two files to the desktop, what do i/can i do with them? Should i just leave them there, or delete them? Can i put them in another folder on the desktop?
    Thank you so much!

  • Import from Desktop opens every folder and file on desktop?

This started yesterday after upgrading to Mavericks 10.9.5
Because my desktop is always cluttered I have a couple of folders on it where I dump everything.
As well as numerous odd items I have  folders with hundreds of photos nestling inside these 2 desktop folders.
Yesterday I had a movie file on my desktop which I wanted to import into FCP X, so I opened the Import window and selected Desktop.
Instead of seeing a couple of folders and the video, it appeared that my 2 folders had been opened and all the contents including the hundreds of photos were all being displayed.
Trashing the preferences cured it but today on launching FCP X the problem has returned.
This only seems to happen when I open the Desktop  .  .  .  it's as though the Import window doesn't see any folders, just the hundreds of files inside them, as though they were all displayed on the desktop.
    Any solutions?

Thanks for the suggestion Luis, but I don't think it's that.
The folders were called Desktop 1 and Desktop 2 and had been there for months with no problems.
Suspecting that the names may be a problem I changed them yesterday to Tidy 1 and Tidy 2 but this had no effect.
Trashing the preferences seemed to cure it but when I relaunched FCP X this morning the problem had returned.
I'm wondering whether something in the latest Mavericks update is causing it.
Or is there a setting somewhere that makes the contents of all the desktop folders visible automatically?
Note that it doesn't import all the files, it just lists them in the import window making it very difficult to find a particular one.

  • How to import from desktop (file) avchd in FCE4.0.1

I copied from a camera onto my macbook avchd footage for later use in FCE4.
I used the importcommand log and transfer.
I have three maps; DCIM (empty), MISC (AUTPRINT.MRK) and PRIVATE with a lot of files.
I tried all the maps (or files in it) to drag into L&transfer but that does not work.
I am sure I am doing something wrong. How to import avchd footage in FCE?
    Thanks!
    Bruce.

Read the section in the manual on log and transfer. Once again you can NOT drag and drop to the log and transfer window.
If the application is crashing you have more serious problems.
Do NOT go inside the folder structure of the SD card. Select the top level of the folder structure. If that crashes the application, you should take your computer to an Apple service technician.
I'm assuming the the operating system was correctly installed, and the application was correctly installed from the disc in the Applications folder.

  • IPhoto crashes when I try to import from desktop

I never had a problem with this until a few weeks ago. I installed software for my new camera -- might this have something to do with it? Anyway, I frequently save photos to my desktop and then import them into iPhoto, but the application always shuts down. I did some research and found that removing this file solves the problem:
    /Library/Application Support/3ivx
How do I find this file? I have OS version 10.7.5 and iPhoto '11 ( version 9.4.2).
    Thank you!

To be honest, I have no clue if this is the source of the problem. The only fix I've come across so far is removing this file, but if there's anything else you'd like to suggest please feel free. Here is part of the crash report:

  • No desktop image shows up for my hard drive when trying to import from desktop

I saved some jpegs to my desktop and when I went to import them into my event when selecting Macintosh HD as source the desktop does not show up?  This was never the case before and I am the only user and no settings were changed by me.

Russ, that was actually it and I found out after realizing I still had an active Apple care plan.  The service rep discovered it in a forum such as this.  Spread the word.  If you're having import issues with FCPX check to see if there's an iTunes update and download it.  This was my first time using this forum and you're excellent response and correct solution is impressive.  I'll visit here again next time I have an issue.
Thanks for the answer even if I had it by the time I returned to see if there was a reply.  You certainly nailed it.
    cheers,

  • Save me! Missing pics after import from CD? what the..?

    Hello Mac superstars,
I'm on a macbook pro from late 2011, on lion so I think that I would then have iphoto 11?
    Here's my story:
    -  Imported some photos from disc & first event created. But after ejecting disc, couldn't view pictures in iphoto (thumbnail fine, shows up in event but can't open to view full picture).
    -  Re-inserted disc, uploaded same pics to desktop then imported same pics from desktop into iphoto, to a new event.
    -  Think I opened the wrong event (direct from CD) and created an album & began editing. But disc was still in there so must have been working from disc?
    -  All was working fine for a while there...couldn't view photos at all.
    -  Then, I thought I deleted the original event with the pics uploaded from CD but may have deleted the event with the import from desktop??
    -  Can't restore from iphoto trash, original files nowhere to be found on my mac.
    -  Can't find photos from when they were saved to desktop using remorecovery software
All other photos fine, just this one group of photos missing .. Please provide troubleshooting tips!!
    Many thanks

Thre's nothing odd here, it's exactly by design and as you have chosen.
You imported from a CD in a Referenced Library. If you run a Referenced Library then you decide where the files are stored. You decided they are stored on the CD. Now there is no CD there are no files.
When you import any files in any iPhoto set up, the app creates a thumbnail for fast viewing in the iPhoto Window. That thumbnail is stored in the Library package. That's why you can see it.
So, these files were never on your HD - or if they were they were deleted - so unless you're willing to run expensive File Recovery software there is no way to get them back.
If you wish to try something like File Salvage you may be lucky, if the files were on the HD at some point and if they haven't been overwritten since.

  • Tried to import iTunes library from desktop to laptop via Homesharing but everything didn't import.  How do I get missing content?

The whole story: I tried to transfer my iTunes library via Homeshare from my desktop to my laptop but not all of my library imported.  Both computers are authorized and almost all of the 99GB of music was imported from my own cds. I couldn't tell what was missing and I figured a computer person would have an easy way to figure this out.  In the meantime, I added about 20-25 more cds to the library on the laptop.  I had a computer guy come out because I wanted to merge the two libraries so I can get rid of the desktop.  He dragged and dropped several folders onto the external hard drive and then dragged and dropped those into my music folder on the laptop.  Now I have a big mess!  I have tons of duplicates, but the entire library didn't duplicate so I am still not sure if all of my music made it over. He wants to delete all of the duplicates but I explained that I don't want to break up albums and I had already gone through the process of finding "exact duplicates" and deleting those on the desktop before I started all of this.  I talked to a Geek Squad guy at Best Buy who suggested I delete everthing from the laptop and start over.  He wants me to open iTunes on my desktop and select all, then drag that to a new folder on the external hard drive.  Then reinstall iTunes on the laptop and drag and drop that folder into it. I have no idea what to do at this point.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated.  Please know that I am not very computer literate so please type slowly so that I will understand ;-)  Thanks
Sidenote:  I did sign up for IMatch and had Apple scan both libraries.  Not all of my music showed up there either.  I am missing entire albums, etc. and I have not reached the maximum limit, 25,0000 songs. Should I purchase TuneUp Media to fix any metadata once I get my complete library onto my laptop?  I just want my entire library together, in one place so that I can move forward and back it up properly. Thanks for any help.

Delete whatever was imported to the new computer via HomeSharing.
Stop using HomeSharing to move content.
Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.
    Launch iTunes.
Everything in iTunes on the new computer will be exactly as it was on the old computer.

Have a look at your import setting specifically Store Files:
Make sure it is set to where you want the originals to go.
Message was edited by: Frank Caggiano - Don;t empty the system trash. The originals that you deleted from the Desktop are in there and are the only copies you have unless they are still in the camera.

  • Desktop photo rotated imported from iphone

There are two photo import from camera and iphone. The photo is upright when I preview it. But, I set the photo from iphone on the desktop, the photo will rotate.
This is so tricky that I set the photo from camera on the desktop, the photo doesn't rotate. How to make the photo upright when I set the photo on the desktop? Thanks a lot.

On XP, this fixed the problem for me:  When you connect your iPod to your PC, use the Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard to import the pictures.  I was just going directly to the folder and copying them to my PC manually and was getting the error.  Using the Wizard, everything works fine.  Hope this helps.

  • Importing Folder of Photos from Desktop Some of Which are Already in iPhoto

I'm editing a slideshow for our school and I'm using some photos I took and some that others took. Some of the ones I took are already in iPhoto in various imports, but many are not, however I want to drag the whole folder, now on my desktop, into iPhoto and have it create a unique folder for these selections using both the photos in iPhoto and the new ones I'm importing with them.
In the past I've seen where photos dated earlier did not always end up at the end of the group, but will this entire folder, even the ones I already have in iPhoto end up in the "Last Import" or can I create a new iPhoto Album and then drag that desktop folder into it and have all those photos there, new and existing?
    Thanks!
    JoeL

    JoeL:
Make sure the checkbox indicated in the screenshot of iPhoto's Events preferences pane is configured like this. Then any folder of photos imported from the Finder into iPhoto will remain as one event.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Import medias in fcpX from desktop

Impossible to import any media in FCPX or imovie from desktop and home... don't have any clue why, tried almost everything (permissions, reboot, try whith other devices, other accounts...) please help ! Don't want to reinstall mavericks !

I'm guessing the movie on the CD is the wrong format. If it was full size DV or QuickTime, the maximum movie that will fit on a CD is only about 4 minutes.

  • Importing from the desktop

    Sorry for the silly question.
Is it possible to import photos from desktop files into iPhoto?
    Thanks.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you mean from folder on the desktop into iPhoto the answer is yes. Just drag the folder of photo into the open iPhoto window or onto the iPhoto icon in the dock. The pictures will be imported into a new event that will have the same name as the folder on the desktop.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.
