Importing from iPhoto 6  to iPhoto 7 question

If I copy my iPhoto library from my G4 running Tiger and iPhoto 6, to my Macbook running Leopard, will I lose the photos I have already imported into iPhoto 7?
Or will there be an option to just add the new photos from the old library?
I do have the newer shots backed up ....
Thanks!

LB
No it will not "merge" the two libraries. The best way to do what you want is to
1. Rename the Old iPhoto Library Folder (iPhoto Library Folder - old)
2. Copy it to the new machine.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key ad launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the iPhoto Library Folder - old. This will open and update that v6 library to a v7 one.
Now you have two v7 Libraries. One called iPhoto Library and one called iPhoto Library - old
4. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use it to merge the two libraries.

  • Importing from PhotoShop Elements to iPhoto

I moved a photo from iPhoto 8 to Adobe PhotoShop elements 6 to make some editing changes. I saved this edited copy as a JPEG item. Now iPhoto will not import this edited copy. The error dialog box states:Unreadable Files: 1. It further states: "The following file could not be imported. (The file is in an unrecognized form.)" How can I import this edited copy into iPhoto?

Where did you save the edited photo?
The proper way to use PSE with iPhoto is to set it as the external editor in the iPhoto preferences - then you edit in iPhoto and save (not save as) back to iPhoto
Otherwise you must save to the desktop and then import to iPhoto

  • Importing from SD card to iPhoto - not all images recognized

Hi, I'd be really grateful for some help...
I've got a Panasonic Lumix LX1 camera, with a 2GB SD card. When I play back the pictures on the card through the camera, there are 655 images. But when I've tried to import these images to iPhoto 6, the computer only recognizes 344 of these images.
In my attempts to import, I've tried using both the camera itself, and a cardreader, to read the disk; and I've tried both importing the pictures directly into iPhoto, and also copying them across from the hard drive created by the camera/cardreader into a folder on my desktop. No joy. It will only let me have the 344.
Can anyone shed some light on how I might be able to unlock and import the 311 unrecognized images into iPhoto?
    Many thanks!
    Richard
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    RCMA:
Are there any movie files on the card? They can cause the import to stop. Launch Image Capture, located in the Applications folder, and then connect the camera. Now you'll be able to manually upload the files you want to a folder on the desktop and then import into iPhoto from there. While you're viewing in Image Capture see if you can determine which is #345, the one that stops the import.
IMO it's better to manually upload to a folder on the Desktop and then into iPhoto to avoid issues that may occur with low battery stoppage, etc. that might corrupt the library. Also I recommend you do not let iPhoto delete the photos after the upload as there are too many reports of incomplete uploads (like yours) and complete erasures.

  • Video imported from iPhone 4 to iPhoto cuts out

I had a video I took on my iPhone 4 and watched it several times on the phone and it was fine... Accidentally imported it with some photos and selected delete from phone because I thought it was just the pics... Now when I view the video in iPhoto the audio continues just fine but the picture stops and picks up then stops and picks up again. I tried exporting it and it does the same thing... I have 2 questions,
    1) is there anything I can do to fix the video on my computer
    2) is there any possible way to recover the deleted originals from my phone??
    TIA!

ok, update, I put the videos in an album I sync with my iPhone which put it back on my phone and it plays perfect?? I have viewed the movie in iPhoto, iMovie and just straight Quicktime on my MacBook Air and it always cuts up in the exact same places... Any ideas why??

  • Problems importing from iPhone 4 to iPhoto

Really hard problem.  When I first try to import images, I see blank thumbnails on my iPhone -- I click IMPORT and the following error message comes up:
    Error Downloading Images
iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image.
No matter what iPhone  I plug in (we have three), it shows no thumbnails and it won't download any images.  If I select one image and IMPORT SELECTED, a different error message comes up:
    Unreadable Files:  1
The following file could not be imported.  (The file is in an unrecognized format.)
    IMG_2965.JPG
First, the file in question is a JPG (I have emailed it to myself to verify that) so it should be in a readable, recognizable format.
Second, it then gives me the option to keep or delete the photos "imported", even though the image didn't import.  I can select either option and the photo count doesn't go down in my iPhone, so in other words, even if I select DELETE, it keeps the images on the iPhone.
Another clue here is that whether or not my iPhone is plugged into the computer, iPhoto shows it as if it is attached.  I can UNMOUNT it but then when I restart iPhoto, it shows it there once again, even if it is still not attached.
Trying to use Image Capture.app resulted in a failure to import as well.  It didn't show thumbnails, but I think that it might not show thumbnails in that software.  Also, if I plug in a different iPhone, it still pretends that my original iPhone, Tango White, is plugged in.
Reading other postings here, I tried already to rebuild the iPhoto databases, thumbnails, etc., by launching iPhoto with the ALT-CMD held down and checking all the boxes.  No luck.  It rebuilds just fine and I still have the same problem.  At this point, we've got three phones and a camera that cannot be imported, with perhaps 2,000 photos in all that we can't seem to bring in!  Seems impractical to email them all one by one.
What is going on and how do I fix it?  The only other clue to the behavior is that no matter which phone I plug in, it appears to think that my original iPhone, Tango White, is still plugged in.
    Help!
    Thomas.

Hold!  Found another post finally that had the answer -- here it is:
    Trash the following file:
    com.apple.ImageCaptureNotifications.DeviceDiscoveryDatabase.501
    from HD/Library/ Caches
    and restart your mac.
    That worked PERFECTLY.

  • Books imported from previous version of iPhoto

We have recently bought a new iMac and installed iLife 09. We imported the iPhoto Library from our old G4 iBook which was iPhoto Version 5.0.4. The import went well, except that this new version of iPhoto has completely different themes for books. SO... whenever we open an old book it comes up with the message "the theme this book was created in is no longer available in this version, please choose a new theme. You may lose some data" or words to that effect. Unfortunately we have spent months creating books that are to be given as portfolios to the parents of the preschool children at the preschool where I work. They include a fair bit of text as well as photos. We have experimented with a few of the themes in iPhoto '09 but they all seem to mess up the layout (adding a dust cover inside flap where the 1st page used to be) and text seems to be missing. Has anyone got any ideas for a solution so we can continue to build these important portfolios to give out at the end of the year. Thanks!

There is only one way to do this and that's continue to use iPhoto 5.

  • Problems importing from SD card into iphoto

hi there, im trying to import photos from an SD card into iphoto and the "import selected" and "import all" boxes are greyed out... Any ideas why that would be? I can see all my photos and access them in iphoto, i just cant import them... Many thanks!

Just to add - i have just tried uploading photos from my iphone too and the issue is the same... I can view them all in iphoto but i cant import. Very strange.
    Any help very much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

  • Why can't I import from mail direct to iPhoto anymore? I used to be able to.

I have recently updated to Mountain Lion, but I am not sure if that is when the problem started, but I used to be able to hit the "import to iPhoto" option straight from Mail, and it would open iPhoto and import all of the attachments from my message.
This option now doesn't seem to be working.
I don't know if I have changed something in the settings by accident, or if it has something to do with the software updates.
    Any ideas?
    Nikki

From the Mail Application, any email I have received with photos attached, I used to be able to click on the Save button at the top of the message, which bought up a little drop down menu. From that menu, if I selected Add to iPhoto, it would automatically open iPhoto and add all of the attachments to iPhoto.
The drop down menu still appears but now nothing happens when I select Add to iPhoto.
I have to manually save them to my hard drive and then open iPhoto and import them that way, which is a long way around.
I am currently running on 10.8.2
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • HT201302 How to import photos that are imported from itunes back to iphoto?

I had imported photos from Itunes( Iphoto ) to my iphone and i deleted all the photos in Iphoto. Now I wanted to control some of the photos but I can't! If I sync photos again, all the photos will be gone. So I wanted to import the photos in my Iphone back to Iphoto. Anyone knows how?

The iTunes transfer process for photos from your computer is a one way transfer process only. Photos transferred from your computer are optimized for viewing on the iPhone - the original resolution is changed/lowered, which is why transferring these photos in the opposite direction is not supported.
There are some 3rd party paid utilities that provide for transferring these photos in the opposite direction but the original resolution of these photos deleted from your computer will be lost and the 3rd party utilities are not supported by Apple.

  • My photos won't import from my camera into iPhoto

Just recently my photos are not able to upload from my Canon camera into iPhoto, but it was working before.
When I plug the USB camera into my Mac the device shows up on the sidebar column in iphoto, it will say "Loading Photos" with the little circular waiting symbol and then it will just go to a blank grey screen.
If I try to click on any of the options under "File" or "Edit" they are all greyed out.
I'm not sure what the problem is since the camera is clearly connecting and being ready by iphoto and starting the import, but then it just stops. There are definitely pictures on the camera to import because I can view them on the camera.
Has anyone else had this problem or know how they might be able to help? Everything seems to be working except for the last step.

Can you access the imges on the card with Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) ?
I would try reformat the card with your camera.

  • I'm getting an 'error image is not supported' message when importing from my iPhone to iPhoto

    Hello helpers-
I recently upgraded my Macbook Pro 5,5 hard drive (1TB) to a 1.5TB hard drive. I used migration assistant to transfer everything over. So far everything works great with one exception. My iPhoto library will not upload images from my iPhoto 5 anymore. Same goes with my iPad 2. I get a message saying 'error image file is not supported'.
Is there something I can do to fix this?
Also my iCloud sign in just keeps getting the thinking icon when trying to sign in. It will do it for hours. I've tried rebooting, shuting everything down, I updated everything I could and yet I'm still getting issues. Thanks for your assistance!... and happy New Year!
    -Ryan

That was a test to determine if the problem was limited to your original library or was system wide.  Since the new library worked OK the culprit is your orginal library.
Therefor Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Auto import from SD card with iPhoto

    Hi there,
is there anyways to set up iphoto to automatically import new photos once I insert my sd card in the media reader?
Sometimes I just can't recall if I've imported pictures taken previously or not, I would rather have iphoto to import all new
pictures automatically. Can this be done and how do I set it up?
    Regards,
    Pat

    Afraid not.

  • Importing from Adobe Elements into iPhoto

I have an Elements 9 catalog on my MBA and would like to go exclusively to iPhoto. How do I bring the album structure and photo captions in to iPhoto?

I have an Elements 9 catalog on my MBA and would like to go exclusively to iPhoto. How do I bring the album structure and photo captions in to iPhoto?

  • While editing photos iPhoto shut down.  The unexpected shut down message appeared and I pressed re-open.  When it reopened I had lost my most recent import as well as imports from the past 2 weeks.  When I try to re-import it says that they already exist

After an import of about 20 black & white photos to iPhoto I was editing one when iPhoto shut down.  The "unexpected shut down" message was displayed.  I clicked reopen, which it did.  However, my last import was completely missing.  Not only that, everything I had imported, adjusted and filed for the past 2 weeks was also missing.  It has still saved all of the albums I created but all show "no photos".
When I try to re-import from my back-up, iPhoto says "can't import, photo is already in the library".
    Can anyone help?

    What version of iPhoto?
    Assuming 09 or later:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Look of photos change when import from D40 into iPhoto 6

I'm using iPhoto 6 and have a Nikon D40. I'm having a problem when I import my photos -- the image quality changes when they go from the camera into iPhoto. The images look more contrast-y, more saturated. I mean, the reds and oranges are so intense it's crazy. They definitely did not look like that when I viewed them in the camera LCD.
I've tried checking in preferences, but can't seem to find anything that would alter the images during transfer. Would this be a camera problem? Anyone using iPhoto 6 have the same problem as I am with their D40?
Any help would be much appreciated!

I am having the same exact problem... iPhoto 6 and Nikon D40. If I import the photos to a folder first, then import from the folder to iPhoto, I can open the iPhoto version and then open the folder version using Preview, just by clicking on the original. I then compare the two side-by-side on the computer screen. The original always looks fine in Preview, so it is clearly a problem with iPhoto over-saturating the photos. I have no solution, but only this observation.

  • Lightroom import from iphoto 9.5.1

I'm running Lightroom 9.5.1.  Trying to import iphoto.  the adobe import instructions do not match the folder layout for 9.5.1.  anyone import from thsi version of iphoto?

No early version of iPhoto can open a Library from a later version.
You can try revert the Library with iPhoto Library Manager
