Importing from LR5 to Premier Elements 13
Sorry, I did not see a forum for Premier 13, so I posted here. I figure if you know Premier Pro, you probably can answer this question.
When I import a still from LR5 with edits, it seems to be imported without the edits. How do I get the photo imported with edits?
Also, must I resize the photo for best quality in Premier Elements 13 before I import it???

Hi Bill,
Thanks for your reply.
I understand that edited data in LR5 is stored as a set of directions maintained in the catalog. Is this the "sidecar" you speak of?
All of my edited photos, whether edited with LR5, Photoshop, or any of my other plug in programs, look great. So, presumably the data is being properly stored in the catalog.
OK. So, you say that PrE won't see this data. I understand, although it makes no sense as these are Adobe products, and should work seamlessly. Be that as it may, I need to get edited photos into PrE.
When I right click on the photo and choose export, there is no option to "Export to PrE". I'm not even sure you are saying I should EXPORT photos to PrE. I thought I IMPORT photos via the Organizer, which is what I am doing. And, as you said, PrE is not "seeing" my edits.
Also, still getting the black bars on right and left side. I will look over what ATR sent, and see if that resolves any issues.
Thanks.
Steven
"Is this the "sidecar" you speak of?"
No. Lightroom normally saves all the work you do in what Adobe calls a "catalog" file. On a PC it ends in ".lrcat". The work pattern for photographers that do not use Lightroom, use Photoshop instead and elect to use RAW formats end up processing their files through Adobe Camera Raw or "ACR". In that case, the adjustments are not saved in the original file, but a "sidecar" file of the same filename, but with the extension of ".xmp". For some, like a pro that is sending a RAW image file through the internet to a client, the pro's work will go with it in the .xmp file. To make it work a little better for some, Lightroom can make use of the .xmp file.
"All of my edited photos, whether edited with LR5, Photoshop, or any of my other plug in programs, look great. So, presumably the data is being properly stored in the catalog."
Of course they look good. In Photoshop, you can make your changes, including plug-in changes, and they will disappear if you don't do a "Save" or "Save as..." If you start in Lightroom and want to edit in Photoshop (with plug-ins) you have choices in the "Edit in" dialog for working on copies or originals. Most don't like altering their originals so usually pick "Edit copy with Lightroom adjustments". When you end the Photoshop and Lightroom work, if set up right, it comes back to Lightroom when you Save and exit in Photoshop. It should be the third iteration: Orginial, copy to Photoshop and image back from Photoshop.
"Be that as it may, I need to get edited photos into PrE."
I won't defend or explain Adobe's ideas of how things should work, but there is no "Export to.." or "Edit in.." process for directly going to any video editor, including PrE. The logic is different for video editing. But there are several ways getting still photos to PrE. Once you do all your work in Photoshop, plug-ins and Lightroom, the finished product is saved somewhere where you put it. If the image has extra Lightroom work, you have to "Export" a final/finished product. There is no "Save" in Lightroom. Skip Organizer and go direct to PrE and follow the "Add Media > From Files or Folders" sequence. I do it in batches with copies for speed and convenience. I can explain that more if you want.
"Also, still getting the black bars on right and left side"
That is a function of mismatch between what cameras, TVs and video project think make the perfect rectangle. Our expectation now is that TV's are widescreen in a ratio of 1920x1080 or 16x9. To get your your stills to match, it has to be cropped to that ratio. Re-sizing is a different process where an image of a few thousand pixels up and down can be reduced to fewer pixels. It can be used in ways to re-size to a ratio that fits, but it is not the same as having control in cropping. I find it better to do the cropping with the Crop tool in the Lightroom Develop module and I ignore re-sizing. I often go a step further and make sure my camera is set to take photos at 16x9.
I'm going to be away from this until much later, maybe tomorrow. If you want to continue with the Lightroom to PrE flow, it is what I do all the time for both photos and videos. I use Photshop Elements, Topaz and Nik plug-ins. It is a delightful system. My usual output is for Vimeo and I can show you some examples. I've worked out a pattern where everything starts in Lightroom and works through PrE.
The next step for me would be to understand what you intend to deliver your project to. A TV, YouTube, DVD, iPad or what? Then perhaps we can get a project set up that will accommodate that, fill it with photos and get something done.
If you're serious, I would be looking at tutorials here:

Importing MOV clips into Premier Elements 10
I'm trying to import Qucktime MOV clips into Adobe Premier Elements 10 but they install as audio files only. How can I get them to load as video clips so I can construct a movie from them?
Hi
I'm using a Mobius 1080p HD camera shooting in HD producing MOV files.
I've inspected one of the files using Quicktime/Windows and the information is
Format - H.264. 1920 x 1080. Millions 16 bit Integer (Little Endian). Mono. 32.000 Htz
Movie FPS = 30.00
Playing FPS = 30.00
Data Size 401.47 MB
Data Rate 18.19 mbits/sec
Duration 00.03.05.00
Normal Size 1920 x 1080 pixels
Current Size 1920 x 1080 pixels
The clips play in excellent quality HD and without a problem in Windows Media Player
I have reformated some in MP4 format and they will play back in Premier Elements after a fashion.. but very slow and jerky making editing just about impossible. I have reloaded Adobe Premier Elements on another computer but get the same results.
It appears Adobe Premier Elements is not up to dealing with these files. -
Cannot import entire dvd into premier elements 10
I am having problems importing and entire dvd that was recorded on a mini-dvd camcorder into premier elements 10. My OS is windows 7 64 bit. I have read thru these forums for hours and have not come across anything that will resolve the problem. Yes, the files on the dvd are a combination of vob, ifo and bup files. When I try to import media from the finalized disc or from the camcorder itself, I get the same results. It will import maybe 9 minutes of a 30 minute dvd. I did read on one of these threads to try and combine the files using command prompt. There is a total of 4 vob files, and when I combine them using the command prompt, the first two files copy and then I get an error message saying "cyclic redundancy check" and the whole process stops. I can play the the entire dvd on windows media player with no problems. I have also contacted tech support and the person I spoke with could not help me at all. I gave her access to my computer and she said everything looked good to run Premier Elements 10, she was not sure why I was having problems.
All I am trying to do is pull a couple of single clips from the mini-dvd and burn them to a dvd. I don't even need the sound, just the clips. I can also tell you that the mini-dvd I am trying to import has 66 individual clips on it. I just need 2 or 3 of them. It seems like this should not be such a complicated process....
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks so much for the quick response.
When I start my project I do have the Hard Disk Camcorder setting selected. I did clean the C drive and defragment as well. I put the finalized disc into my computer's disc drive and used the Media Downloader in Premiere Elements; selecting the Get Media from DVD Camcorder or PC DVD Drive. I get the same results. Only a small part of the dvd is being imported. I am not copying to any other drive. The camcorder the discs are coming from is a Panosonic VDR-D220. I have also tried to plug the camcorder into the computer via USB and import the media with all the same steps mentioned above with the same result.
When I look at the info. on the disc, it shows 15 files. The files are a combination of vob, ifo and bup.
They are listed like this:
video_ts bup file 18kb
video_ts.ifo ifo file 18kb
video_ts vob file 166kb
vts_01_0 bup file 14kb
vts_01_0.ifo ifo file 14kb
vts_01_0 vob file 51,538kb
vts_02-0 bup file 16kb
vts_02_0.ifo ifo file 16kb
vts_02_0 vob file 275,850kb
vts_03_0 bup file 32kb
vts_03_0.ifo ifo file 32kb
vts_03_0 vob file 1,025,046kb
vts_04_0 bup file 14kb
vts_04_0.ifo ifo file 14kb
vts_04_0 vob file 16,278kb
I am not sure if all that info helps or not. If there is something else I can tell you, please let me know.
Thanks for your help. -
I recently upgraded to Premier Elements 12 and loaded my photo and videos from my android (Galaxy 4G Samsung) into the new program. After which when I went to my Lightroom 5.3 I found my entire library folders except one picture with a missing file statement, gone, disappeared. All gone but the one picture. The original files are still on my hard drive, but can I get them back with my Lightroom changes that haven't been saved? How do I do this? or are they all gone?
Are you sure you are opening the correct catalog? Search for .lrcat files and if you find the right one double click it.
Do you have backup catalogs (you do, right)? Open your most recent backup catalog and see what you've got.
I don't know about Premier Elements 12 but I can't see how that would be related to loosing you LR catalog. -
Problem importing from scanner into Photoshop Elements
I use Photoshop Elements 5 on a PC & am suddenly no loger able to import from my scanner (Canon MP990) & get the message: 'Could not complete the import because of a problem with the acquisition interface'.
If I try scanning directly from the scanner, I get the message: 'Scanner is not available while in use by another application or user' . I may have abandoned a previous scan at preview stage without cancelling, but it doesn't show up anywhere. I don't know whether this is a Photoshop problem or a scanner problem. My troubleshooting skills are rudimentary at best - I have tried disconnecting/connecting the scanner & shutting down the PC - any ideas ?
artistdtsFirst of all, are you sure that you want to abandon iphoto for the organizer? You don't want to use both--you will have to choose eventually. If you don't have experience with Organizer on a mac, I would strongly suggest exporting a few photos from iphoto, putting them where you want to keep them and using File>Get Photos>From Files and Folders to create a test catalog to use for evaluation while you make up your mind.

Importing from iPhoto into Photshop Elements
I have never had a problem importing images from my iPhoto library into Adobe Photoshop Elements until I installed iLife 08. Now the iPhoto library is greyed out and I can not access my images. I find the image editing facilities of iPhoto good but as a textile artist I have specific needs of Photoshop which straight iPhoto editing does not do. anyone able to help please?
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file. -
Problem with import from Onlocation to Premier Pro CS5.5
i noticed that in upgrading from Production premium CS 5 to production premium CS5.5 when one imports a shoot schedule from on-location to premier pro the import to premiere pro no longer convert to the more relevant name created in OL. Ie. if the shot in OL was Smith Tummy Tuck - when you import via the media browser - using the readable OL file - the file imports as 00036.mts - in CS5.0 it would import with the OL file name ie. Smith Tummy Tuck
This was a great feature but what happened to it in 5.5?most recently it was all within CS 5.5
I am going to go back to another computer that has CS5 and see if I can figure anything out -- seems strange that this would have been dropped by adobe cs5 to cs5.5 in fact in the CS 5 product evangelist promo this was feature highlighted!
I know when I 1swt started with CS5 in Feb 2011 this finctionality worked without an issue -

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 running on? Have you updated from 12 to the 12.1 Update? If not, please do so.
Where is this library from where you are importing music files? The iTunes library with iTunes music?
If so, convert the iTunes music in iTunes to the wav version and then import the wav version into the Premiere Elements project.

RAW import from Canon 40D to Elements 4.0
I have a Canon 40D camera, and still use PE 4.0. I am unable to import my raw files - help! I have downloaded and installed the camera raw 3.7 plug-in. What am I missing? Any advice welcome. Many thanks...
If no-one else comes up with an answer have a look at my thread under the RAW Issues forum
m. It may or may not be of help. It's entitled "Opening Raw Files saved as DNG"
The title might not seem to relate to your question but I think you may be suffering from the same problem I had . If not I'm sure some kind soul will come to your aid.
If nothing else it may pay you to post your thread under the Raw Issues forum rather than let it get lost where it is.

Can I upgrade from Elements8 to Premier Elements 8
I purchased Elements 8 and would like to do video edeting as well
is it possible to upgrade or do I have to purchase the full Elements Premier
Thanks, Roger KirwanSince you have already purchased Elements 8, you have to purchase Premiere Elements 8 now.
There is no way to upgrade. Premiere Elements come as stand alone product or with PEPE (Photoshop Elements Premiere Elements) bundle.

Importing MPEG2 files into Premier Elements 8
I just purchased a Sony DCR -SX44 camcorder which records in SD format MPEG2. It appears Elements 9 supports this format but it is unclear if Elements 8 (which I have) supports MPEG2. To avoid a re-stock fee I have not used the camcorder yet. Does Elements 8 support the SD MPEG2 format?
I have NO idea if any of these are still sold, but reading is free
For a Firewire DV Camera - look at Panasonic PV-GS320 or GS500 (Note that I have not used either, but they have good reviews)

I am having a problem importing MP4 video into Premier Elements 11.
When I try to edit a video the highlights are turning black/grey and other colours are turning white or grey making the video look like a negative . . . sometimes the colour goes completely but not always. Also, when this happens the whole thing freezes. I tried running the videos on QuickTime and they run okay which makes me think it's not the graphics card but Adobe Elements that's the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

•What is your exact brand/model graphics adapter (ATI or nVidia or ???)
•What is your exact graphics adapter driver version?
•Have you gone to the vendor web site to check for a newer driver?
•For Windows, do NOT rely on Windows Update to have current driver information
•-you need to go direct to the vendor web site and check updates for yourself
