Importing from Outlook to JMS

We're replacing a single Windows PC running MSOutlook (that was shared amongst multiple users) with a Messaging Server installation and a network of PCs.
The old PC has been in use for several years and has a 1.5GB .PST file of old emails.
Does anyone know of an easy way to import these emails into a JMS shared folder so that all the users have access to them.
From reading the doco I see a utility to import /var/mail mailboxes into JMS. Perhaps I could export to unix mailbox format from Outlook somehow?
Has anyone else solved this problem already?

I'm currently transferring pop mailboxes (.pst) in my office onto our new JMS server and whilst IMAP is great it's very slow at moving large volumes of mail. I have done some testing and it takes about 2.5 hours to move 1GB of data. Meanwhile, the Windows PC can't do much else, so for a 5GB mailbox it takes 10 hours, making that PC useless for the day. Now add that up for a company of 200+ .... gonna take me a while.
Also, some advice to fellow migrators. I found that moving folders in Outlook (tested on 2007), when copying whole folders, the follow-up flag and catagory details are lost, but not when copying the contents within. In other words, it's better to go into folder and select al (Ctrl-A) then move to IMAP folder.

  • Entourage 2008 - Importing from Outlook 2007 ???

Hi guys, just got a MacBook Pro this week and I had reserved a copy of Office 2008 which I got today.
It's great because that's what I was waiting for to put my PC on sale
BUT i was astonished to see that there's not the option to import pst files in Entourage ??
I was using Office 2007 for PC therefore Outlook 2007.
The only way we can export stuff is by creating .PST files, so you can backup all your contacts, your messages with attachements and your calendar (which are my 3 priorities).
Using the equivalent application from Microsoft but for the Mac, that is : Entourage 2008, there's not the option to import .pst ?? What the heck ??
So please guys if you know a way to export my stuff (messages, contacts and calendar) from Outlook 2007 PC to Entourage 2008 MAC, please let me know !!!
    THANK YOU !!

    Hey guys,
I don't want to be repeting by here's the way I worked this out :
    EMAILS
First I installed Thunderbird on my Win computer.
Then I imported from outlook. It took a while since my PST was like 3 Gb.
At first I was crashing it but then I let it work for a try and it imported everything perfectly, but not showing any progress bar during the process.
Second, I searched Thunderbird help for the way to export in MBOX, and it pointed out that I sould get a plug-in, which I did.
Third, having installed the plug-in, I had a tool menu for exporting. Only thing I had to do is select each folder one by one and export them using this plug-in, I only had to add .MBOX extention to every file.
Finally, when you get these files in OS X with entourage, you just drag and drop them in entourage and them import perfectly.
That did the job for me anyways.
    CONTACTS
Send yourself emails of contacts !
I sent myself email (with the WORK OFFLINE option so I wouldn't receive them in outlook) in the contacts from outlook.
As you can imagine, I totally got rid of Outlook, and of Windows actually, by now but as I remember it when you right click on a contact you have an item that's called something like "send full information of contact through email".
So to keep my categories I sent one email per categories.
Back in entourage, I had to save attachements, import them, put them in a category.
Then next email, etc. and so on.
    CALENDAR
I haven't found a way to do this but what I did was : In outlook you have a way to display your calendar events by a list, so I just made a couple of print screen of that list and I put the future events that I wanted to keep in Entourage.
    And the conclusion is :
Well I said byebye to Entourage because I don't need MS Exchange support and I hate Microsoft more and more everyday so I'm using Mail, Address Book and iCal now
But I could easily import from entourage into all of these.
The only microsoft apps I still are the must-have : word, excel and powerpoint 2008.

  • How do I move all the messages and folders in `Local Folder' to my main account folder? The stuff in local is from importing from Outlook

I imported my mail from Outlook and they went to Local Folders. I want them in the main folder section for my account. How do I move them there?
At the moment I have to create each folder and then copy the contents from one folder to the other - crazy, and I have dozens of folders

As Chgrist1 said, that is how it works. Having looked as how Outlook stores mail, and everything else. It is a wonder anything ever comes out that is useable. PST files are a mess. First thing they do is pull the email apart and store header, body and attachments is three different places.
You will also find (most likely) that your accounts in Outlook were POP and the default in Thunderbird is IMAP. merging IMAP and POP files and folders is fraught with difficulties and dangers. It would be a brave developer that tried that in an import.
In the case of IMAP all your mail is one the server, so import is not all that important. However copying a gigabyte or two of of outlook mail into your imap server could exhaust your available message storage space there and cause the import to fail completely.
So If you want to do what your saying, first confirm that your not using IMAP mail. Otherwise your experience is most likely going to be exceedingly poor.
If you are using POP mail, then changing the setting in your pop account to cause it to use the global inbox will make a single mail account appear, "Local Folder", with your outlook mail as a sub folder of that.
Dragging a folder from the imported outlook tree to Local folders is not difficult, as long as you remember that folders hang of other folders, so your dragging them to a parent, not a position on the screen you like.

  • Import from outlook

how do i import data from outlook (not express) to ical

A cautious response that when I did it... I did the contacts first - then a day later did the calendar. It did not duplicate the contacts depsite the warning appearing as you describe. That's just my experience and is not necessarily a recommendation. Pity it doesnt two way sync yet or update existing entries

  • Can't import from OUTLOOK EXPRESS 5 to Mail

I was trying to import contacts and e-mails from OUTLOOK EXPRESS and somehow all my information seemed to be erased from OUTLOOK.
When I try to open it up it doesn't have all my emails and addresses. It's as if it just got installed. I don't know where to look for this info in my hard drive.
Called APPLE and they told me that it could be that it got corrupted and deleted.
I have years of information in there. Any suggestions?

    Outlook 5 -> Mail
You can't go directly from Outlook 5 to Mail but you can do Outlook 5 -> Entourage -> Mail and that works very well
Your mail in Outlook 5 (I am assuming you're running Outloook Express 5.x under OS 9.2.x) is in the MUD folder. You'll find it in Documents > Microsoft User Data > Identities > Main Identity
If the Main identity is empty do a search for "Main Identity" and see if there are any other folders of the same name
If you can't locate it, restore it from a backup, import it into Entourage and then into Mail

  • Can't get rid of duplicate email accounts itunes imports from outlook

    Hey everybody,
iTunes imports my email account information from Outlook and for some reason it finds duplicate email accounts. I only have one .pst file which only has one of each email account attached to it but iTunes finds duplicates.
So in iTunes, when I tick one of a duplicate account and click apply the other duplicate will tick itself.
I have no idea what is going on and I'm tempted to reinstall outlook, itunes, delete my pst file, restore my iPhone and just start all over again!
But I really don't want to do that.

Have the same problem. Sometimes end up with in excess of 10 duplicated calendars (they show as "all mobileme calendars" but do not have the individual calendars listed) on my iphone although the correct calendars only appear once on both mobileme and Mac. Have never had sync turned on in itunes.
A tiresome workaround to delete these from the phone is to go into settings/mail,contacts,calendar/your mobileme account and turn calendars off. Say yes to delete calendar on iphone. When this is finished turn calendars back on, then exit and open the calendar. One duplicate should have been removed. Repeat ad infinitum.
Problem is the duplicates keep coming back (even without connecting to the Mac). Anyone with ideas for a permanent solution?

  • Using Entourage - Importing from Outlook XP

I'm not sure where to post this question so I thought I would try here. I would like to import a .pst file (Outlook XP file from my PC) into Entourage 2004. Is there any way to do this?
I noticed that using the import function in Entourage shows an import selection from Outlook Express 5. Perhaps I should export a .pst file from Outlook XP and then import it into Outlook Express 5, then create a new .pst file and import it into Entourage? I'm lost and the Microsoft help site is kind of useless.
If anyone has done this type of import, I appreciate the help.
    Thanks,
    kayjh

    Hi kay,
Quite why MS didn't make it easy to shift email from one of their own products to another one from the beginning is beyond me!
There are a variety of workarounds.
    see
    http://www.riches.com.au/articles/export-outlook-entourage.htm
    http://www.entourage.mvps.org/crossplatform/winmac.html
    http://www.oreillynet.com/cs/user/view/cs_msg/9928
HOWEVER, I see that since I last looked at this issue a new tool has actually arrived from Microsoft itself!
    Have a look HERE!
EDIT Mmm - looks like the MS tool may not do the job after all - seems to be at those those who had been using the early Mac version of Outlook.
    Cheers

  • Importing from Outlook

Hi, I am business owner using PC for years at work. I use a blackberry for e-m and Outlook (last version) for many things...
Is there a reliable and effective method for importing (using Mail or Entourage) my mailboxes and my old e-ms from Outlook?
    Thanks

Use Outlook2Mac. If you are actually using Outlook Express then you can directly import your data using Mail's or Entourage's Import options.

  • Garbled mails after importing from Outlook 2011 to Apple mail

I want to migrate from Outlook 2011 to Apple mail. I found 2 ways to do this:
Copy mail folder by mail folder to a Finder folder as .mbox files, and then importing them into Apple mail
creating an imap account on Outlook, synchronizing mails with the imap server, and then connecting from Apple mail to the same server, thereby re-importing mails to Apple mail
With both methods I have the same problem: some mails arrive completely garbled, below is an example. It seems that mostly HTML mails and mails with attachments are affected, but there are also some ordinary text mails which look weird. The strange thing is: they all look absolutely perfect in Outlook 2011!
I have migrated my mail file from every computer I had since about 12 years, first some PCs, and about 1.5 years ago to a Mac. My suspicion is that mails dating back to the "pre-Mac era" are affected, because the latest ones are all perfect. Any ideas?

Thank you Csound1, this is what I did. Bought EMailchemy (which costs 30$, not 20$), but which worked perfectly. I had to do some manual work, because the mails will be exported from Outlook, you have to import them folder by folder into Apple Mail and then move them over to the mail account, but now everythig is perfect. I can only recommend this product.
Sorry about the price error, didn' realize it had increased, but still the best $30 you'll spend

  • Import from outlook fails Windows 7 64-bit

I can install either Thunderbird or early bird and cannot import my email from Outlook (2007).

    try this version http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/latest-comm-central/thunderbird-34.0a1.en-US.win32.installer.exe
That should have the fixes that were released after 31 was released. Otherwise use Version 24. 31 is simply broken for that task.

How can I import E-mail from Outlook 2011 to Mail

    Asatoran wrote:
...I've email in Apple mail and I want export from it to Outlook 2011...
I did a little testing and all I can come up with is the following:
In OSX Mail, select your message and click File, Save As.
    Format is Raw Message Source.
Be sure to have a .eml extension at end of the filename.
Open Outlook and drag the message file onto your Inbox (or whatever folder in your Mail.)
    Notes:
Outlook must have focus when you drag the message in.  IOW, click on Outlook to bring it to the front before dragging the message in.
You must Save As each message individually.  Selecting multiple message in OSX Mail, will combine all the messages into one file, which Outlook import as just one message.  (And import very badly.)
Of course, it's obviously gonna be a pain importing messages individually, but you asked.
BTW, just to make sure you're fully warned, getting your data out of Outlook later is nearly impossible.  Try the Export function in Outlook for Mac and you'll see what I mean.  (It's like Hotel California.  You can check out anytime you like but you can never leave.  )
    I second that emotion

  • Entourage 2008 not importing from Outlook 2011

I am trying to import all the emails, sub-folders like spam, outbox and a few that I have made manually from Outlook 2011 to Entourage 2008. Why not just post your question on Microsofts Entourage forums? They would be more focused on your question, plus Apple Discussions only provide support for Apple products.

  • Changing Rules Imported from Outlook to OWA

My company switched from basic Outlook in it's own servers, accessed from my PC, to cloud based OWA which I access from my iPad.
I had rules sending mail from my company and some contacts to a subfolder of my Inbox. I can still change this list in Outlook but can't access the list in OWA - can I change the contacts in the Rule on my iPad?
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
Do you mean that the Inbox rule created in Outlook can't be edit in OWA of your iPad? Is there any error description when you change the list in OWA?
Please try to login to OWA in Windows to check whether you can change the related rule. If the issue also happens in Windows, please create a new contact group for your needed list in OWA then create a new rule for it to have a try.
    Thanks,
