Importing gif animations into Elements 12 on Mac

Ok, I have searched quite extensively for a specific, accurate answer and am not
clear about the conflicting responses I have encountered.  To wit:  I bought Elements 2
for a PC several years ago. It had two nice features for my enjoyment of making .gif animations.
(1) It allowed me to import the .gif animations AND all the layers.  (2) It allowed me to control
the speed when I made my own animations and saved them in .gif format.
However, when I bought Elements 8 for my iMac, I discovered I could not load .gif animations
and get the frames/layers, nor could I choose any speed except .2.
Ok, these are my specific questions:  If I order Elements 12 to run on my iMac (OS X 10.9.2)
will it allow me to load the entire .gif animation and show the frames/layers, AND will it allow me
to choose my own speed when saving a .gif animation.
I know if I save an animation in .psd format that I can reload it, showing the layers.  That is not
what I want to do.  I want to save in .gif format and load in .gif format.  Thanks!

PSE12 should be able to open layered gifs with all the original layers intact. You need to use:
File >> Save For Web
When the dialog opens if you select GIF from the top dropdown list the information for sped is normally grayed out. However if you put a checkmark in the box “Animate” the fields for frame delay and looping become live. You can then change the speed and have looping forever. Then re-save.
Why not download the trial version from the link below and use it free for 30 days. You can then see if it fully meets your needs.

  • Loading .gif animations into Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac

For years I used Photoshop Elements 2 for Windows to make .gif animations with great success.
Then I switched to a Mac and bought Elements 8 for Mac.  Now, I am finding out that I can not load any
of the animations I made using Elements 2 into 8.  (And yet I can load animations I made using 8 into 2.)
In fact, I can not load any .gif animations into 8, other than if I make one and save it
as .psd.  8 allows me to make them, but not load them as .gifs.
My question:  Is there an easy way to load .gif animations into PS Elements 8 so a
person can work on the individual frames?  Am I going to have to convert any .gif animation I
want to import into 8 first into .psd?  All I seem to get when I try to load a .gif is the message
"This is an animated gif.   You can only view one frame." I have searched manuals and the
Net looking for a specific method of using PSE8 to load gif animations intact (not just one frame).
Is it possible?  Thanks. (I also have noticed that Elements 8 will not allow me to change the frame
speed -- it is unchangeable at .2)

    Dear Ms. Brundage -
I followed the directions detailed in your blog entitled "Moving a Catalog from Windows to Mac" as well as your description of the process on page 58 of your book "Photoshop Elements 9 - the missing manual."
I installed PE9 for Windows and converted my catalog.  I then backed up that catalog to an external hard drive.  I then connected the hard drive to my MAC on which I also installed Photoshop Elements 9 for MAC.  I opened the Organizer and tried to restore that converted catalog.  However, for each file in the converted catalog, a dialog box opened that said "Could not restore file:  /Volumes/Name of External Hard Drive/Filename.JPG."
I then made a second backup of the converted catalog using Photoshop Elements 9 for Windows and then tried to restore that catalog again on the MAC using Photoshop Elements 9 for MAC, again to no avail.
Do you have any idea what the problem may be?
    Thanks again.

  • I need to know how best to import .mod files into elements 7

I need to know how best to import .mod files into elements 7

    lornamarieslade
Are you working with .mod standard or widescreen?
If .mod standard, less problematic. The file just might import without issue. Worst case would probably be changing the file extension from .mod to .mpg just prior to import.
Now .mod widescreen is another story that revolves around maintaining the 16:9 flag that scretches the video for display after encoding. Some have said that the 16:9 flag is lost in the transfer to computer; some say certain editors such as Premiere Elements just cannot read/recognize the flag. Whatever the case this is what you should consider in your Premiere Elements 7 Windows.
    a. If you need to rename the file extension from .mod to .mpg, do so prior to import.
    b. Import the .mod or .mpg counterpart into your Premiere Elements 7 project using the project preset NTSC or PAL DV Widescreen (NTSC or PAL depends on your location of interest). You will probably see that the video does not fill the space in the Edit Mode Monitor (you will probably see standard 4:3 looking image rather than widescreen 16:9 looking image).
    c. Right click the file in the Project media area, select Interpret Footage, and, in the Interpret Footage Dialog/Pixel Aspect Ratio section, dot the Conform To: and change the setting to
    D1/DV NTSC Widescreen 16:9 (1.2)
    or
    D1/DV PAL Widescreen 16:9 (1.422)
depending on your location of interest.
A while back there used to be a program called SD Copy that did the job of file name change and adding the 16:9 flag prior to import of the .mod widescreen into Premiere Elements. But, I have lost track of the SD Copy and suspect that is it no longer available. I have dealt with this issue many times at a forum that I formerly frequent. Most have reported back that this workaround worked for them. It is worth a try. I am looking forward to your results.
If you do opt to upgrade to Premiere Elements 11 Windows (please go tryout before purchase), I am eager to learn how your .mod widescreen is handled by version 11 in your computer environment.
    Thanks.
    ATR
Add On...I just came across this download for SDCopy. It does not give the appearance of the original the link to which is broken. I have not downloaded and used the following since I do not have any .mod widescreen. So, no guarantees. Please let us know the outcome if you try it if Interpret Footage does not work for you.

  • Import iPhoto library into Bridge (in mac Elements )

Hi, I am looking for a way to bring my iPhoto library into Elements 8 for Mac so that I can browse them in Bridge. The only way I saw to do that here in this forum is 'in PSE 8.0 File>Open. From the side panel of the "Open" window, select Photos under Media. Now from the menu that appears, select iPhoto. Now select the photos you want to import and click Open. Your selection will open up in PSE 8.0.'
I don't really want them in Elements, I want to browse my photos in Bridge. Do I really need to first import them into Elements?
Thanks in advance for any help in this.
    Firislander

Hi ... You could consider downloading the Automator services to efficiently browse through the iphoto library from within any application.
    Here's the link : http://www.macosxautomation.com/services/download/index.html
    and download media picker services.
Once done: While in Bridge goto Finder>Services> and choose one of the options to browse the iphoto library.

  • Importing GIF Animations - Help!

Am I doing something wrong? I created some animations in
Photoshop and saved them as GIF files. They view great in HTML, but
when I import the images into Captivate, the timing on some of the
animations are messed up. I played around with the timing in
Captivate, but it made no difference. I also made the animations
play longer in Photoshop and then imported them again, but again,
it made no difference. Also, I want the background of the
animations to be transparant, and when I import the images, the
    background changes black?
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Thankyou.

HI yankeebrit and welcome to our community
As for the timing, I'm guessing you have an option in
Photoshop to determine or configure the speed? I have played with
an older application called Microsoft GIF Animator and you are able
to configure the duration of each animation frame there. Often, a
GIF animation is somewhere around 10 frames per second.
As for the background color, I'm guessing that black (or near
black) is set as the transparent color in Photoshop? I don't
believe the transparency will come through. So probably the best
you can do is to set the background color to match whatever you are
    placing the image against.
Hopefully something here was helpful... Rick

  • I am so tired of iphoto crashing, losing work I've done.  I want to switch to photoshop elements 10 but need to know if it uses the iphoto library or if I can import that library into elements

I am so tired of iphoto crashing, losing work I've done.  I want to switch to photoshop elements 10 but need to know if it uses the iphoto library or if I can import that library into elements

Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

  • Importing Flash Animation into Captivate

I am trying to Import an animation from flash 8 into
Captivate. It allows me to do this however the frame rate of the
animation which was created in flash when imported to Captivate
changes. Does anyone know how change the frame rate of the
    animation in captivate.

Hi laxmi1 and welcome to the community
Hopefully when you created your Flash animation, you
    published as Flash 6 output.
I believe the standard frame rate for Flash is 12. Captivate
is 30. So you can either bump the Flash rate up to 30 and
re-publish, or in Captivate, you can adjust the frame rate to match
Flash and set it for 12. To do this, click Movie >
Preferences... > Preferences tab. From there, it should be quire
    obvious what to do.
    Hopefully this helps... Rick

  • Import flash animation into edge animate

    Hi,
I need to import a flash vector cartoon style animation into edge animate, do you know how can I do it?
    Kind regards,
    eugenxi

    Hi eugenxi,
You can use the Export Png Sequence feature included with Flash CS6 to export a series of pngs from your symbol animation (tut by Tom Green):
    http://layersmagazine.com/png-sequence-from-flash-cs6.html
Then import the pngs to Fireworks, and use John Dunning's plugin to export a symbol directly to Edge Animate:

  • Import 6000 photos into Elements 11 organizer

I have a file with numerous subfiles that I want to mass import into Elements 11 organizer.  How do I do it?  I can see how to import photos within the files, but that would take forever to highlight all photos and import.  There must be a better way.

To get all photos in a folder with all its subfolders, simply use the menu 'Get photos and videos', 'from files or folders'. In the dialog which opens, check 'include subfolders' and 'Copy files at import'.

  • Do photos tagged in Elements 6 (Win) import accurately via Bridge (Elements 8 - Mac)

I have thousands of photos that I have managed using Adobe Elements (Win) and am now moving to a Mac.   Will Adobe Elements 8 (Mac) using the included Adobe Bridge properly carry-over all the tags that I have assigned to the photos over the years.   I have 'written' these Tags & keyword properties' to the files using the function in Elements 6.

There are usually not many Elements users around here. But the easiest way
to find out is to make a copy of a randomly chosen amount of files from
different data and try those copies your self in Bridge to see if they
reflect all the data you want.

  • Importing .gif file into Pages - problem with transparency

    Hi Apple Forum,
First-timer (on the forum) here. I tried importing a .gif image (with alpha channel) into a pages document. The image was imported, but it's not transparent. In other words, the alpha channel isn't working. The problem is NOT with the opacity button, in case some one wants to suggest that as a solution. Has anyone had this issue before?

    Hi Scrambled_Eggs
    Welcome to the forum.
Resave them as .png from Preview app.

  • Importing Flash Animations Into iWeb...

I noticed that in the few days I have had the privilege of using iWeb, I have noticed that Flash animations that I have created only show up as links on the page, and not actual Flash animations (meaning, when wanting to show the Flash animations on a website, they only show up as a small link, and don't automatically run on the website....
So, my question is this: Does iWeb support Flash animations? If so, how do you import them into iWeb without them simply showing up as links? Thanks in advance for your swift response....

Just any theme download from a site is not enough. The 3rd party themes must be designed specifically for iWeb and, as such, should have an installer included.
Otherwise, start with either the white, black, or formal themes and use graphic files from those themes to create a custom design.

  • Importing wav. files into itunes on MAC OSX

I have a question, hope someone has the answer.
I am a new mac owner, new ipod owner too.
I currently have 200-300 gigabytes of SHN and FLAC files on my PC (mostly grateful dead soundboard recordings).
I am planning on converting these files to WAV. format with "artist", "album" (show date), and "song" ID tags.
I then plan on copying these WAV. files to my imac or separate external hard drive formatted for MAC OSX.
    OK THE QUESTION (finally, no?),
When WAV. files are imported into itunes are they automatically converted to the MP4 AAC format?
I have looked in the itune PREFERENCES menu I go to ADVANCED and see that there is a control for switching file formats for importing CD'S but there is no mention of importing WAV. files.
On another note it is too bad that Apple has not come up with a file conversion utility for itunes, where FLAC, SHN, and WAV. files could be converted to MP4AAC, Apple Losless, etc...
I appreciate any answers to my question, and also comments regarding the general subject of audio file conversion on the MAC OSX.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Firstly, I must point out that WAV doesn't support tagging, so there is no point in converting your compressed FLAC and SHN files to WAV before making the move over to a Mac.
Rather, it would make more sense to use the free and excellent Max to convert all these files automatically to the format of your choice, such as Apple Lossless. You can even run multiple conversions simultaneously, so you could, say, convert your whole lot of files to Apple Lossless while at the same time convert the same lot to AAC for use on your iPod. The program is highly configurable, allowing you to specify destination directories and whether or not the output files are added directly to your iTunes library. Also, the tagging will be preserved when converting FLAC and SHN files to supported formats.

  • Importing Flash animation into Catalyst

Is Catalyst yet capable of importing and using movie clips made in flash, or it can only use static images on layers from Photoshop and Illustrator?  If not, I'd like to say that I really like the idea of making Flash animation movie clips how I usually do, but then being able to utilize them in the Catalyst environment.  So for example le't say I want to create rollover animations for buttons, could I make that in Flash and then bring that into Catalyst?
Also, do I need CS4 to use Catalyst?  Thanks.

    Hi,
Creating transitions in Flash Catalyst does not require writing any ActionScript code.  Although animation in Flash Catalyst is most commonly created via state transitions, you can also create animation without states by using an action sequence (which you can trigger from any interaction, just like a state transition).
Here are some video tutorials introducing animation in Flash Catalyst:

  • Importing from iPhoto into Elements 11 Organizer

When I click Import in Elements 11 Organizer and choose the iPhoto option I do not get the "Import from iPhoto" dialog box that allows you choices of what you would like to import. Instead, the program immediately begins importing all the photos that I have in iPhoto.  How do I get the dialog box to come up so I can make choices of what I would like to import?

You are right, that is how it works.  However, I am looking at a figure on page 36 of the Adobe "Classroom in a Book" training workbook that shows an iPhoto dialog box where you can make choices.  Wonder where that figure came from.  After seeing it, I thought maybe I had missed making a preference setting somewhere along the line.  Thanks for your response.
