Importing graded footage back to Premiere Pro CS6

I am trying to color correct/grade my clips. I sent it to Speedgrade through Premiere Pro (CS6) but after rendering it out as a DPX, and trying to send it back to Premiere Pro (DPX as image sequence), not all graded clips were there. (Clip is 4:40 min) but only 1:39 min is what was imported back to Premiere Pro.

I've found on occasion that I've tried to export and didn't catch that the export dialog thought I was only trying to export something highlighted or had another setting for "area selected". I would guess you've run afoul of something similar ... or a box that was checked you might not even realize was there. As I just found trying to (for the first time in a year) export an EDL from PrPro to Sg. I had to puzzle out something like three different places the two programs were trying to help me before I could get the blasted EDL and footage both imported to the same Sg timeline.
As an alternative to DPX there is of course two different EDL processes ... one where you simply export an EDL and then after creating your Sg project, navigate to that through Sg's Media panel, drag it to the timeline, then using the Media Panel navigate to the folder containing your clips, then use the "load from desktop" option to populate your timeline.
The other ... you export both the EDL and the sequence from timeline, and then put one on the new Sg project timeline, drag the other on top. It takes a bit longer to do the export from PrPro of the footage which is probably not needed most of the time.
I've just put up on the forum an explanation of how to do this with progressive footage and avoid the hiccups the two programs can throw at you. The first one ... if all your media is in a single folder-tree ... is very quick & easy. That EDL export is nearly instantaneous, and the clips load over it just bango ... now, I used to have problems at times exporting (rendering) a timeline out of Sg. I don't know if an EDL process can work sending grading back to PrPro, I think you'd have to render out. But many people did that all the time without problems.

  • How do I import an MKV file into Premiere Pro CS6?

How do I import an MKV file into Premiere Pro CS6?

Premiere Pro CS6 doesn't support MKV formats. To import MKV to Premiere Pro CS6, a recommended solution is to convert MKV to AVI.
I've been reading so many different forums on how to convert MKV to AVI. Finally, I summarised three solutions:
First one: HandBrake . This tool is a free and open-source multi-threaded transcoding app. It supports nearly any videos including MKV format and has Mac version and Windows version.
    Cons:
    1. HandBrake is too professional to handle for most people;
    2. It doesn't support MOV as output format.
Second one: there are many third party software which supports converting MKV to AVI. I just test one of them. It's professional yet easy to use and the service is excellent. And there is a step by step guide about how to use this tool .
    Cons:
    1. Most of them are not free.
Third one: Online-Converter . This kind of converter does a great job on file conversion.
    Cons:
    1. Like most online converters, the free version of this tool only allows you to convert videos smaller than 100MB. It's too small for video conversion;
2.Your MKV video should be upload to the internet to be converted. This means the risk of pravite information leak is possible.

  • Issue with importing H.264 files into Premiere Pro CS6

I have some AVI files that will not import into Premiere Pro CS6 (not trial version). The Gspot utility says they are H.264/MPEG-4 AVC format and that the codec is installed. I can see and play the files in Bridge but when I try to import it says “Unsupported format or damaged file”. I tried importing in CS5.5 and the file imported, however only the audio plays. Why is this happening and how can I import these files?

Premiere does not support H.264 in an avi.
    You need to convert first.

    Hello~!
I'm using Premiere Pro CS6 and I want to import phantom .cine file.
But there is an import error for now.
So I'm importing this file after conversion to .mov or something.
Can I import this file without conversion? If I can, please let me know.

Thank you and have a nice day.

    .cine is the extention?
I am afraid you need to convert first.

  • Replace footage will crash Premiere Pro CS6

    Hi,
I have a serious problem with Premiere Pro CS6 when I want to replace footage in the project. I need to replace .R3D files to ProRes files that I encoded via MediaEncoder.
When I replace the clip (.R3D to ProRes) in project browser, Premiere crashes every time announcing:
"Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down..."
When reopening the project (the recovery project Premiere Pro tried to save while crashing), the name of the file is still the same, but the content of the file has changed to the ProRes clip (they are different in resolution). When I replace the clip again, the name of the clip also changes and does not crash - however the clip was already changed even the name wasn't.
If I then replace another clip (.R3D to ProRes), Premiere will crash again. This happens every time I try to replace a new clip (.R3D to ProRes).
If I replace the other way around (ProRes to .R3D), Premiere will not crash.
Please help. This is very annoying problem, and I need this resolved as soon as possible!
    Thanks!
    (MacPro, OSX 10.7.5, PremierePro CS6)

    Hi again,
nobody has an idea why this happens?
Well, I made further experiments, sent crash reports to Adobe, no reply.
The problem is still: when trying to replace footage (.R3D => AppleProRes), PremierePro crashes every time.
The following announcement pops out (to click OK):
    Adobe Premiere Pro
Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project.
Earlier PremierePro crashed and had to force-quit. Now I just have to quit it - it stays on but does not work and makes a pop-up (to click Continue):
Premiere Pro has encountered an error.
    [/Volumes/BuildDisk/builds/slightlybuilt/PremierePro/UIFramework/Make/Mac/../../Src/Worksp ace.cpp-209]
Again, if trying to replace footage the other way around (AppleProRes => .R3D), PremierePro does not crash.
    Please, help soon! Thanks.

  • How to Import Chapter Names Created in Premiere Pro CS6 to Encore CS6?

I edited a sequence in Prmiere Pro CS6 and then I created and named all my Encore Chapter Markers while still in Ppro. I then opened Encore CS6 and used the Adobe Dynamic Link to import my Premiere Pro CS6 sequence into Encore CS6 and created a new timeline from that sequence. I imported a Menu (which I created in Photoshop) and linked the first chapter to button 1 in my menu and then used Create Chapter Index to bhild all the menus. How do I get the Chapter names to automatically appear in these menus without having to retype each one?

Select a button and look at properties. Check the option "Set Name From Link." You can select multiple buttons and do them at one go.

  • Problems with XML import from FCP 7 to Premiere Pro CS6

    Afternoon everyone.
I'm currently trying to import an FCP 7 project file that I want to now edit and tweak in Premiere Pro (have recently realised i've been using Premiere far more so would like to start making a full switch over).
I've gathered my original FCP project and exported via XML (Apple Interchange Format, Version 5) and imported it into a blank Premiere Pro project. However it gets to the import window, progresses fully to 100% and then throws this error message at me, and I can't seem to figure out why.
I've tried exporting an XML for the whole project, with all bins/sequences/clips etc. I've also tried individual sequences/bins, and none of them want to import.
Does anyone know why this is happening?
    Thanks,
    Adam

Okay, after trying both steps in the document above, the missing codecs/preview presets still aren't available when I go to File>New>Sequence. I guess that's the only way to check if they have installed correctly/activated correctly right? It says it's correctly activated though so not sure why it's doing this.
Are these presets also missing in the trial verison of the software?

  • REDEPIC (.r3d) files won't import in Premiere Pro CS6

I was recently called upon to edit a project that has already been shot by someone else (who is no longer in the picture for personal reasons).  They used a REDEPIC (S35 Mysterium-X I believe) to shoot the files and so now I have all of these (.r3d) files and I can't import them into Premiere Pro CS6.  I know that it's an issue with CS6, and I've read that CS6 doesn't support some REDEPIC files, but I was wondering if there was a workaround or an update that I could install that would allow me to work with the files.   I downloaded a trial of Premiere Pro CC (2014) and of course it works beautifully, but I got CS6 about 2 years ago (only months before CC came out... of course.) and I was hoping to be able to use it a little bit before having to upgrade.
I also tried opening the files up in REDCINE-X Pro, and them exporting them into Apple Pro Res 422 to import them, but then the audio is just static and I lose anything else.
So if you know either a way to import the .r3d files into Premiere Pro CS6 natively, or you know a better codec or way to export out of REDCINE-X Pro, I would really appreciate it.

I believe that those MOV files are using the H.264 CODEC. You will need to have that installed (comes with later versions of Apple's QT), but even then, might not work in PrPro 1.5. I just do not recall if it supported H.264.
For a bit more background on file formats, this ARTICLE might be useful. For a bit more on CODEC's in general, this ARTICLE might be useful.
Good luck, and hope that PrPro 1.5 does handle H.264.

  • Converted .avi to .mp4 for Premiere Pro CS6 but receive a header error.. help?

When I imported .avi video file into Premiere Pro CS6, only the audio played. I used VLC to convert the .avi file to .mp4 through a batch file. Now when I try to open the .mp4 file into Premiere Pro CS6, I receive an error "File cannot be opened because of a header error".
I've tried converting the .avi file to .mov and .wav but they receive the same header error.
I've also tried opening in Audition and resaving it as .wav pc but it still won't import to Premiere.

First, depending on what is inside the AVI file, it should/might be "naturally" supported by Premiere

  • Premiere Pro CS6 Creative Cloud & ProRes presets

I am using the Atamos Ninja 2 to capture footage from my Canon 5D Mark III. One of the options on the Ninja 2 is to capture using the ProRes HQ codec. I'd really like to be able to take the ProRes footage and use Premiere Pro CS6 (creative cloud) on my MacBook Pro (10.8.3). Is there any way to do this? I don't see ProRes presets available. I can import the footage, but can't drag and drop it into the timeline.

    Joe Bloe,
Thanks. Here's what's interesting that I don't understand. I did what you pointed out previously. That works from a functionality perspective...sort of.
I originally captured at 30 fps (drop frame 29.97) on the Ninja 2 because of what I understood here:
    http://atomos.activehosted.com/kb/article/codecfrres/when-should-i-use-24p
When I used the technique you described, the sequence settings were the same technically. But the editing mode listed is ARRI Cinema. There are still no presets I can see for ProRes. I'm not sure if the sequence that resulted from the steps you described are taking advaantage of the ProRes codec. And since I don't see any presets anywhere in PPro for ProRes, I'm still wondering how to get them in PPro.
    I've seen this too:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/VideoRoad/2011/08/a-prores-workflow-end-to-end.html
But I don;t understand how, in the above instructions, the option to select Apple ProRes in the Video Preview setting is available. Is this a difference in CS6 from earlier versions?
Btw, I have the latest version of Compressor (and Quicktime) installed so I should have the ProRes codecs available.
I also downloaded the folder of ProRes codecs for AME and imported them that was available here:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5411
This still doesn't make the presets available in PPRo.
    What am I missing?

  • No Audio File in Premiere Pro CS6

I have a Sony NX30. I use the sony media importer to get the files on my computer and then use the files in Premiere Pro CS6. Everything works fine.
I have a new desktop computer. Same windows OS. I installed the exact same sony media importer and the exact same Premiere Pro CS6. But on the new computer, when I import a video (using the sony media importer) there is no sound in Premiere Pro. Not even an audio file. Just the video file.
Here is what I learned while trouble shooting:
I can play the video files using the windows media player and I can hear the sound. The sound is there.
I tested some older video files previously imported on my old computer and they worked just fine on the new computer. I could hear the sound and there was a sound file in Pr.
The files I originally tried to import onto the new computer (that had no sound in Pr CS6) I imported on the old computer and they played just fine in Pr.
The newly imported files on the old computer will not play sound when I try them on the new computer (I put the files on an external hard drive and move them on the new computer.)
FYI: the sony media importer has no settings, you just click import amd it works. There are no options to change anything.
Anybody have a clue what could be the problem?
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hi Zencuts,
When you try to view media in browser in Premiere Pro CS6 & Prelude it wont load or it will freeze.
I'm not seeing that behavior with various kinds of media. If it's a known issue, it's the first I've heard of that.
Do you have the latest update of Premiere Pro CS6 and Prelude CS6? You can try Help > Updates to make sure. I see you have an iMac on OS X 10.9. What kind of media are you using? Which GPU is in the iMac? Have you updated the drivers recently?
Your issues may well have to do with your installation of OS X, as well. Certain ways of updating to OS X 10.9 can reset permissions in your Adobe folders so that can cause problems. See this doc: Premiere Pro CC, CC 2014, or 2014.1 freezing on startup or crashing while working (Mac OS X 10.9, and later)

I'm not sure how you got through to support with a CS6 issue, as phone and chat support is no longer available for CS6 users (except installation issues in the first 90 days and activation issues thereafter). Forums are the only option for support for CS6 users, sorry. That said, the agent should not have promised you a call back and not followed up in some form or fashion. I will see if I can look up the case and let the agent know their error.
    Thanks,

  • Importing Photoshop files into premiere pro CS6 issues

    Hi
I recently re-installed Premiere Pro CS6 on my work computer (i changed from a HDD to an SSD). Ever since I did this I am having an issue importing .PSD files into Premiere.
I try and import a photoshop file. The importer window comes up. The progress bar starts to move, then pauses and the Importer says 'Not Responding'. After a few seconds it comes back and throws up the following error:
Error message - 'The importer reported a generic error'
All projects i previously worked on that had .PSD files in them are now reporting these files as 'Media Offline' meaning I have to replace them with .PNG files which is really annoying.
Any ideas what might be happening? The files I am trying to import are RGB .PSD's. They worked previously without any issues.
    I have Premiere Pro Version 6.0.5 (001 (MC: 264587))
running on a Windows 7 machine with Service Pack 1, 64 bit OS, 16GB Ram and Intel Core i7-2600
Many thanks in advance for anyone who can help me with this!

Yes, MXF should play perfectly in PP CS6, but if you can't work this out at this point, you may wrap your MXF video to something intermediate. as a matter of face, Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 seems to work fine if you import your MXF clips directly from a camera or camcorder, but if have already copied MXF recordings your HDD or you downloaded them from somewhere else, the import error may occur.
So i suggest you convert the MXF footage to something mezzanine we would recommend DNxHD.mov (if you are on a PC) or Apple ProRes .mov (if on a mac). those two intermediate codecs are good mezzanine codecs that handle recompression well and standup well in other areas of post-production (color grading, graphics, compositing, etc,). You can see what I wrote about the solution. "Why Premiere Pro CS6 can't import MXF files?" i hope that it is helpful to you.
