Importing HD720 TGAs and losing color

Hello, I was wondering if there was an option in 1.5 to have the monitor preview window be 1280x720 because I am importing my TGA sequence and having to resize it to fit the 720x480 default window. Also when I import the files I loose the background color. It's weird because it shows up in Photoshop CS2 correctly ( a light blue background), but in Premiere 1.5 it is black. I attached a frame for example but had to save as a tiff using Photoshop CS2 because tga cannot be uploaded.. Also, does anyone recommend good export settings for .mov files? I want good quality, but not too huge a file size because I want to  burn to DVD. Thanks.

Welcome to the forums.
You need to create a high-definition or a "Custom Settings" project with a resolution of 1280x720 with square pixels. You appear to be using a DV NTSC setting, which is why your frame size is restricted to 720x480.
The reason you're losing the background is likely because the TGA files have an alpha channel. You can use interpret footage to ignore the alpha channel, and thus make the background visible.
Search for the highlighted words in the PPro manual for more detail.
For DVD output, see: FAQ:What are the best settings for DVD?
You will also find links to many free tutorials in the PremiereProPedia that will quickly show you how things are done in Premiere Pro.

  • How do I find images in LR 2.4 (imported from CS4 Bridge) that have color labels already assigned In CS4 Bridge? I have set both Bridge and LR color labels text to match (eg Green for green, etc).

How do you find images in LR 2.4 that have been imported from CS4 Bridge and have been assigned a color label in Bridge?  I have set both LR 2.4 and my CS4 Bridge to match the text for each color to be the same (eg. Green for green, etc), and the filter search in LR 2.4 shows that a label has been assigned, but I am unable to identify and locate the specific images in LR 2.4 that have had a color label assigned from CS4 Bridge.  I have tried to search via attribute, metadata, text, etc...Is it necessary to re-assign color labels all over again, image by image, in LR 2.4, or is there a way to automatically have the color labels assigned in CS4 Bridge be assigned and searchable to the images after they have been imported into the LR 2.4 catalogue from the Bridge program?

    JohnM.
I closed both programs and re-imported photos and re-tried the action of having LR  read the XMP metadata from the CS4 files, and it seems to work now just fine...don't know why now and not before, but thanks much. Is there a way to have LR do this automatically upon import of images from CS4?  I tried to do this with an import metadata preset, but no luck.  It seems as if I can only do this once the images have already been imported into LR, and then to have to have LR read the metadata from the CS4 Bridge files.  thanks gain.

  • IPhoto is quitting unexpectedly and losing the photos I just imported and edited.

iPhoto is quitting unexpectedly and losing the photos I just imported and edited.  Any suggestions to fix it?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Photo Files Losing Color when placing in INDD...

Hi, using INDD CS6,I am noticing my jpg files are losing some of their color information when I link them into INDD, I am doing a photo book, and the colors really need to be preserved. It's almost like they are being compressed a little in INDD similar to what we see on compressed PDF output.  I have check my color spaces, etc, all seem to be good and consistent between the apps. I am attaching a screen shot where I overlaid the same jpg displayed in preview next to the same file linked to in INDD.
    Thank you.

A few things at play here, I think.  First, do you see the the little red dot with the question mark in the upper left of the frame in ID? That means the link is missing. ID can't do a proper preview if it can't find the link.  Second, ID is color managed. As far as I know, Preview is not. A more accurate check would be against the image in Photoshop.  Third, you've got a drop shadow. I suspect the Image is RGB and the transparency blend space is set to CMYK.  Fourth, you are, indeed, looking at a compressed preview, not the actual pixels. The quality of the preview depends on the settings (display quality) and the size/resolution ratio at which the image was saved.

  • Lightroom and GIMP color issue using jpg

    Here is what I do:
Using an iMac (Tiger) and have my monitor calibrated using the built in MacOS tool. The profile is stored in the Library/ColorSync/Profiles folder. In the GIMP settings about color management, I have chosen the monitor profile from above as the monitor profile and the RGB profile.
I have a (Canon) RAW image mainly in a neutral, if not slightly yellowish, tone with some beautiful golden pins. Imported the CR2 into Adobe Lightroom and exported in sRGB color space, the jpg looks like this: http://www.ipernity.com/doc/18039/1283133
Now I would love this with a nice frame, so I did a hi quality export, loaded it into GIMP 2.4.3, added a frame, and saved it as full size jpg. When I look at the resulting jpg in MacOS Preview application, it looks fine and so it does when I upload it to the web: http://www.ipernity.com/doc/18039/1284108
But as I manage all my images in Lightroom, I also want to manage this one in Lightroom, so I imported it. And look what's coming out: http://www.ipernity.com/doc/18039/1284100
    It's all purple!
It looks the same in Lightroom, Preview and uploaded. Purple. What am I doing wrong? Is there any hidden Lightroom setting I have scambled?
When I am saving TIFF from GIMP, Lightroom imports with proper colors.

The third one (reimported into Lightroom) is indeed purplish. Are you using the latest gimp? Versions of gimp before a while ago could not color manage and will probably forget about the profile. It was only recently added. You should have the working space set to sRGB (so not RGB as you wrote above) in the gimp probably for this image. Also, make sure you do NOT save as a progressive jpeg, but only using baseline compression. Lightroom tends to change the color of progressive jpegs. This is probably what is going on.

  • Reader XI and Vertex Colors

    Hi all,
in Reader XI vertex colors aren't multiplied with diffuse colors anymore, like in previous reader versions.
Instead diffuse colors are replaced by vertex colors when used.
Vertex colors with diffuse textures still work fine.
    Greetings,
    Chuck

    Dave Merchant wrote:
... in a math-model scenario where vertex colors represent a fourth parameter on a 3D surface, it is absolutely proper that the VC-generated texture ignores lighting, so the true 'value' is displayed.
Remember that only VC-colored surfaces behave this way - if you want some part of a scene reacting to lighting and shadows, don't give that node any VCs.
If a 3D surface ignores lighting, the three other parameters (x,y,z) become hard to assess.
    Compare the examples
    http://www2.iaas.msu.ru/tmp/test_texture.pdf and http://www2.iaas.msu.ru/tmp/test_vertex_color.pdf .
When you move around the model, it is much easier to get the shape of the surface when it responds to lighting.
In VC case it is impossible to see if the mono-colored end of the tube is open or closed, for example.
The stability and simplicity of VCs are really valuable features (for example, the textured model looks differently in Software and OpenGL renderes, while the VCed one looks the same), but mandatory ignoring of lighting is more of a disservice in the interactive viewer, where user is expected to be able (with default GUI) to change camera position, lighting and (with JavaScript or view dictionaries) move parts of the model around.
On the other hand, this thread started with complaint about how Adobe does _not_ care about the stabilty of results achieved with VCs. So 3D PDFs can not be relied upon as the only way to convey important color information in any case (but can serve as an additional tool, esp. for insruction). There is a long way from PDF-E to PDF-A.
As not giving node VCs - it is possible if you control the whole drawing block of an application.
If you try to create a PRC or U3D output driver for an existing program, you may find that driver API deals with VCed primitives. And such design is quite reasonable, since the authors of the built-in OpenGL viewer of such a program did RTFM glColorMaterial, so know how to drive both diffuse and emissive color with VC.
PS. My _guess_ is that logic has nothing to do with the support for vertex colors in Adobe 3D viewer.
I suspect that when Adobe U3D viewer was first introduced, it was based on Right Hemisphere 3D viewer, that did not support VCs, so minimal VC support was hacked in, just to have some. The introduction of PRC could not change much, since even in the PRC format spec VCs look like an afterthought. And we are going live with that ad hoc code, since declared commitment of Adobe to open 3D standards is not translated into action when it comes to allocating 3D programmers time (if they still have any such programmers left). /* Hope to be wrong. */

  • Can't import Scanned Black and white photos to iphoto

Issue : When importing a *Scanned, Black and white, jPG* image to iphoto get an error message
Error message stats " The following file could not be imported. (The file is in an unrecognized format.)
Solution: Im not an expert but I think it's the scanner driver and the color profile it uses. Changing the color setting to RGB or color or changing the file type from JPG to Tiff may help. If you have already scanned the photos or if changing the settings do not help the follow the instructions to fix the photos.
    1. Locate the Remove.app Script
Location is : Macintosh HD - Library folder - Colorsync Folder - Scripts folder- Remove script
    2. Select all of the photos and drag and drop the photos on top of the Remove script. The photos will immediately be ready to import to iphoto and will still be the same location they where dragged from.
Tip: place the photos in a folder on the desktop then select all ( command-A ) the photos with the issue. This may make it easier to drag and drop onto the Remove script

    Gail:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The reason you're getting that black thumbnail and full sized image is that iPhoto does not support the grayscale profile Dot Gain 20% that grayscale scanning embeds in those photos. You're best bet is to scan them as color. They will still look the same but have the RGB color mode and sRGB color profile that iPhoto can support.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Importing from AECS5 to AECS4: Color issues:

    Hello,
I have a logo created in vector graphics in AICS5.
The RGB value of the blue I am using in AI is 0079c1.
However, when I import the .AI file into AECS4, the blue turns into 095AA5.
I tried to adjust the color management in AE but no luck. What steps should I take to assure the color does not change between AI and AE?
I searched in help and found this link:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/aftereffects/cs/using/WSF97D54F0-EBD5-4db1-BD4C-D5AD36A2AABBa. html
But this did not change anything in my case.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Simon

Thanks to a friend, I fixed it.
I had to convert the AI logo to RGB and then it worked and used color management with RGB in AE.

  • Mesh and PMS colors

Is it possible that a mesh doesn't support PMS color separations?
We have a Illustrator CS4 logo containing a mesh with a spot,
but when imported in Indesign CS4, the spot color from illustrator doesn't show up

    What do I do wrong?

As far as transparency in Illustrator that goes way back before Adobe
brought such support. I had a plug in from Hotdoors I think as far
back as version 8 and I believe the plug in pre dates 6.
The bug problem was convincing them to bring it into ID and to
convince Quark as well for Xpress. They told me they were not certain
it could be done in a layout program, vector programs were different.
Vector programs were different. I pointed out that they had vector
tools in the layout programs, they agreed but still said it was the
only request for it they have ever had so you are correct I can be a
victim of they same thing they suffered from and cannot see the
possibility that sits right in front of me.
I would be very interested in seeing this for architectural
photography and presentation of designs in a photomontage project this
could be useful and very billable.

  • Photoshop 6.0, bringing sketches in and adding color

I have Photoshop 6.0 (and Illustrator 10). I am also new to the software. Am I able to import a sketch into Photoshop, and then work with it? I'd like to draw a sketch on paper or a board, import it in, and then "clean it up". Then be able to color it via 'fill' or other method. Sketches would be of a person/people among various backgrounds. If this is possible, what tips and tricks should I apply?
    thanks for you help,
    Mike

    Mike,
Up to at least CS, basically you will have to redraw; in some cases that applies to later versions, too. Have you considered Photoshop, if you have it?
Read in the Helpfile about raster and vector.

  • Odd color shift and OS color profile question

I've run into something that leads me to believe that the OS X color profile management has caused me a problem. I'd like to figure out how to tell the OS to not manage color profiles in order to avoid future problems. So far this is only an issue when dealing with CMYK images.
    A little background...
I received a JPEG image from a photographer. Converted it to CMYK and made minor edits in Photoshop, not touching the color profiles or trying to color correct. I saved a JPEG of the edited image, and imported it into Freehand 10. When imported, the entire image shifted slightly pink. When viewed in Preview or Photoshop it looked fine. It was only when I imported it that it shifted.
A friend suggested this might have something to with color profiles, so I fiddled around with both PS and FH to make sure they were using the same ones. Even when they were the image shifted pink. This was on my desktop machine, recently upgraded to Tiger.
I noticed my PowerBook was still running Panther. I took the same image, same data file, same programs and when I imported the image again, it was fine. Looked just like it did in PhotoShop and Preview. I immediately saved out a PDF for posterity and press use.
Given the above, the only real variable is the version of the OS. This leads me to believe that there's something about how Tiger handles color profiles on the OS level that's causing this shift. What I don't know is how to remove the OS' meddling to remove it from the workflow.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance...

Thanks for the info : I'll start with the 4th question because it's the less known factor with Elements
If you shoot raw, the settings of your camera (Adobe RGB) will be ignored. This setting works only with the out of camera jpegs. A 'raw' file has no color profile, so PSE needs to know which profile you want for the conversion. You won't find any menu or dialog entries in ACR for that purpose. So, to convert the file when you 'Open' in the editor, PSE looks at the settings in your editor (my question #2, Menu Edit/Color settings...
If you have chosen option 1, 'Always optimize for computer screens', PSE will convert the raw file to sRGB profile.
If you have chosen 'Always optimize for printing', PSE will convert to aRGB...
If you want to take advantage of the slightly wider color space of Adobe RGB because your home printer can use it, select the second option, but if you have to send the picture in sRGB, do not forget to convert before sending. Menu /image/convert color profile.
If you don't want to bother, use sRGB with the option 1. You won't risk forgetting to convert the client version.
Never use 'No color management' in the menu /edit/color settings
If you first convert to sRGB with option 1, you won't get any advantage to convert to aRGB afterwards

  • Red logo is pixelated and the color is different

Ive been trying to render a video for a while and cant seem to solve my problem. Im working with a very special filesize: 300x250. On my timeline,I have my video (which I edited in Premiere and then Imported in AfterEffects) and a top layer which is a red logo (png file made in Photoshop). On my timeline it looks fine even when it plays, but when I rendered it, the color red is off (in the original its more red-orange and comes out blood red) and the logo is pixelated. My finished video needs to be in a flv format. I think Ive tried anything that I know and still cant find a solution. There must be someone somewhere with a solution.
Im working on a pc with AfterEffects CC.
    Thank you

The brand Im working for needs to remain confidential, but heres the reds inside my logo. Its like a gradient red.

  • Bug when importing Ppt slides with animation: color changes to foam green

    Hi everyone,
I am using Captivate 7 and I am experiencing what seems like a bug when I try to import Powerpoint slides that have animation effects and then publish the video as HTML5.
I am using Ppt 2007 and importing the slides as .pptx files using the Import> Ppt slides command in Captivate.
An example of Ppt slide that I need to import is this: in the slide, there are two groups, created by grouping together several objects (lines, shapes etc). One group has a fade effect applied on it, while the other group has a diagonal down right movement applied to it.
When I import the slide in Captivate, the following happens:
If I do not select the High fidelity check box, then the Ppt slide is imported as static, and no effect is shown in the HTML5 video, although the effect is shown in the Captivate preview.
If I select the High fidelity check box, then the Ppt slide is imported with the effect, and with the original Ppt colors, but as soon as I press F3 to play the slide, or F4 to play the whole project, or I publish the video in HTML5 output, all the original colors change to foam green for the fill in and black for the shape outlines. Furthermore, the text boxes are displayed with their box frame displayed:
    ORIGINAL PPT IMAGE:
    RESULT AFTER CAPTIVATE IMPORT:
I have read in the forum several posts on this issue, eg colors being changed to foam green even with static Ppt slides, and I tried to apply the suggestions, but none seems to work.
    Any help will be appreciated.

    Hi there
As Hyperlinks don't survive the import process, perhaps try removing the links and just applying the desired color in PPT before importing into Captivate?
    Cheers... Rick
