Importing High Definition Movies from SonyHDR7 Camcorder

I Movie 08 is only recognizing standard definition movies and will not import my high definition movies. I have imported them before but it no longer works. What has happened? I can see them on my SonyHDR7 camcorder, I know they are there.

• Free space on internal hard disk. How much ?
Else
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
• Delete iMovie pref file - or rather start a new user/account - log into this and re-try
iMovie pref file resides.
Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
and is named. *com.apple.iMovie.plist *
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
Now restart iMovie.
• Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
• Garageband-fix. Start it, Play a note and Close it. Re-try (Corrects an audio problem that hinders iMovie)
• Screen must be set to Million-colors
• Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08 or 09)
iMovie updated ?
QuickTime updated ?
Mac OS version ?
• Program miss-match. iMovie 5.0.2, up to Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK
• Program miss-match. iMovie 6.0.3 or 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• Program miss-match. iMovie’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
From LKN 1935. (in this case = iMovie HD (5), I tried it all, but nothing worked.
Your answer (above) has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that
there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled
iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos)
to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before.

I run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac.

  • Record movie from Canon camcorder in high definition?

I would like for Quicktime Pro (7.6.2) to record high definition (HDV) video directly from my Canon Vixia HV30 camcorder via firewire. I noticed that QT will record regular DV when I switch the camcorder to the regular DV mode, and it recognizes the presence of the camcorder when the camcorder is set into HDV mode, but I won't record video (it gives the error msg "Recording failed because no data was received"). iMovie '08 will record video from the camera in either DV or HDV modes. Does anyone know a way to get QT to record high definition video from this camcorder? Is there a plug-in that might work? I have already installed Perian.
[My ultimate goal is to enable a third party program called LabChart to record HDV video, which uses Quicktime to capture video, while also recording data from the USB bus. This is why I can't just import HDV with iMovie, since it can't sync the video to signals coming in via USB}.

With HD being the new standard, do you imagine that they might make QT able to acquire HD soon? Seems that since it plays HD, it should be able to acquire HD too. thanks for your help!

Can anyone help me figure out how to use my new LaCie external hard drive to import movies from my camcorder into imovie '09? I ran into so many problems last night!! Was up way past my bedtime!

I'll stay in this chat ... I answered in the other one ... I have a Sony digital Handycam ... from years ago.  I just got the LaCie and I think I formatted it for only to be used on my Mac ... how should I go about reformatting it to be HFS Extended like you said?

  • Imovie 11' quits when importing movies from my camcorder

I have a question.  I have imovie 11'...and have made movies with iMovie before, but now that i have upgraded to iMovie 11', its is having troble with the import of the video from the camcorder and i am using a firewire, like i usually do. when I upload movies form my camcorder, iMovie suddenly quits.  it somtimes uploads a few seconds, and other times a couple of minutes.  I have a Macbook, and and Version 10.6.8.  Can somebody help me please, because its taking me forever to upload all the videos.  I have to stop, and delete the ones that had problems while importing, and then start all over again.  Its annoying and very frustrating.
    Help me please!!!!!  =)

For what it's worth, I have been having problems importing video from iPhoto to iDVD in the iLife'08 and also could not select video from iPhoto into iMovie '08 for an iDVD project. Apple technician took all my video clips out of iPhoto and put them on desktop. IDVD '08 is filled with problems, including green screens that replace transitions if using iPhoto photos and video to make slideshows. However, I somehow found in my applications file an "IMovie-previous version"('06) and used it to prepare a slideshow from iPhoto, using video clips from desktop, then "shared" to iDVD '08 tp pick a new theme and it burned perfectly.
The iMovie version '06 is so much easier to work with and I can avoid the glitches of iMovie'08 that prevented me from importing video. By preparing movie, you can avoid using the transition window in iDVD'08 -- transitions that don't work. Forums on iDVD are filled with people having the same problem and we hope Apple will find a fix.
If you have'08 and want to revert to '06, there is now an Apple software that will allow you to do that- just offered, to allow people who especially are not interested in YouTube and more interested in sharing with family and friends for TV viewing.

  • Need HELP with importing high definition tape

I am using Imovie 6HD - and trying to import a high definition tape from a CanonHV20. After importing the first tape I had a screen saying LETTERBOXING which went on for ever. I noticed it made black border tp/botom on the frames. I don't want that. What should I do - I have more tapes to import.
What settings do I need? As mentioned I used High Definition Tapes so I would like to have a high definition movie/dvd. Also after burning the dvd I suppose I can play that on any tv?? Please help with detail explanation!!
    Thanks.

    wrong setting on Import/New Project:
    • select in New Project dialog 'HDV 1080i' or 'HDV720p' (=depends on your settings on your camcorder...)
    ... I would like to have a high definition .../dvd. ..
no such thing.. DVDs are allways 'Standard'-only.
    • drag iM project file into iDVD = automatic conversion from HD>>SD ..

  • Anyone made a High Definition movie?

Anyone made a High Definition movie with Toast 9? maybe from a Blu-Ray Burner?
Can a regular DVD burner burn to a Blu-Ray Disc with Toast 9?
Will IDVD handle such a request?
    Anybody know?

PLEASE correct me if I am wrong.
You cannot burn a Blue-Ray disk on a standard DVD burner. You need a Blue-Ray burner to burn Blue-Ray disks.
Now, you can burn HD video to a standard DVD using a standard DVD burner and Toast 9, but you cannot play it back on the Mac. You need a Blue-Ray player (not cheep) connected to a HDTV (Not cheep) to view true HD content.
iDVD does not support HD video. You can use your HD content in iMovie HD but when you import it into iDVD it is converted to SD (Standard Definition) video, which of course defeats the whole purpose of the PAINFUL editing of HD content in iMovieHD.
Bottom line: Macs cannot work with HD video from start to finnish yet. You can on a PC! But who would want to do that?
You are not allowed to make predictions or to speculate about new products from Apple, so I can only wish. The Mac Pro line will come standard with a Blue-Ray burner and we will have Mac software like iMovieHDBlue-ray and iDVDHDBlue-Ray.
    So......
To create a full blown HD Blue-Ray video that you captured with your HD camcorder on a Mac, your going to have to wait a few years. Right now, you need a a MacPro ($2700.00), a BlueRay burner ($499.00 to $699.00), a Blue-Ray player ($399.00) connected to a HDTV (32" still around $599.00 for a good one) Toast 9 ($99.00) and iMovieHD (iLife $199.00)
    Didi I miss something?

  • Trying to import mini dv clip from Sony camcorder - how???

Trying to import mini dv clip from Sony camcorder (which I could do on my v.old copy of Premiere Elements - lost somewhere in the loft!) just discovered that this is no longer supported on v.13!!!  Trying to find a work-around but the one explained isn't clear - please could you email an 'idiots guide' step-by-step how to import DV into v.13

    reshs
The Adobe document for workarounds for DV or HDV data capture firewire in Premiere Elements 13/13.1 is found
Removed features and unsupported file formats | Adobe Premiere Elements 13
If you have problems with the Adobe suggested workarounds, you might consider
    Windows
    Movie Maker
    Mac
    iMovie
    HDVSplit HDVSplit 0.77 beta
Please review and consider, and then let us know if any of the above worked for you. The last version of Premiere Elements that has the DV or HDV data capture firewire is 12/12.1.

  • Cant play High Definition movies

My mac cant play high definition movies. Even when i open Front Row somewhere in the first minutes the screen goes black but i can hear the movie playing. if i try to open the file from another player it may play the first minutes but it will shut the program down in the middle of the movie... : (

I found on my old system, processor speed is vital to be able to play HD movies/clips.
for example, on my dual 1.42/2gb/128mb video card, I could not play HD content over 720p.
If I tried to play 1080 clips, both processors would peg, I would hear the audio, but the video was either stop motion, or, like yours, blank.
    720 worked fine.

  • How can I import an m4v movie from my desktop to my event Library in iMovie?

How can I import an m4v movie from my desktop to my event Library in iMovie?  I want to include the m4v movie into another project in iMovie.

When you import DV Stream from tape, iMovie 11 will assume that you are importing raw footage from a camera, rather than a finished movie. It will create a new clip everytime it detects a scene break (the record start/stop button was pressed). These clips will be placed in chronolgical order - not the order they were on the tape.
One way around this is to import the tape into the application that you used to create it. For example, if you used iMovie 6, import the tape back into imovie 6. In iMovie 6, you can export the tape back out using FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME. Choose the DV codec in an MOV container.  You can then import this MOV file into iMovie 11 and have everything in the proper order for your finished movie.
Another option is to use FInal Cut Pro X.

  • Can now with imovie 1.2.2 and iOS5 edit 1080p high definition videos from DSLR cameras like the EOS 5D Mark II on ipad 2?

Can now with imovie 1.2.2 and iOS5 edit 1080p high definition video from DSLR cameras like the EOS 5D Mark II on ipad 2?.
That would be great, you would open the door to professional video editing ipad 2. Is there an accepted camera list?.

There does not appear to be a list yet.

  • Importing Music and Movies from PC to Mac

I'm trying to transfer my songs and music from my old PC to my Mac however I'm having a lot of trouble. I copied all my iTunes songs and movies from my old PC to an 80GB external HD. I connected the HD to the new Mac and tried to import the songs and movies into iTunes however it doesn't do anything. When I drag the files to iTunes from the HD folder it just drags it and disappears not copying anything. After that I tried copying all my files from the external HD to the Mac HD and then tried to open the files and still nothing. I've tried using import and add to library but still nothing. I also made sure all the settings in preferences for importing and general were correct. The songs are in AAC format and the movies are in mp4 and m4v. The m4v movies which I bought from iTunes won't play or import to iTunes but the mp4 movies will play however not import. Someone please help!

Does your PC have an ethernet cable in the back? If so, you can make a steady transfer of files that way. It can be faster than wireless connections and does not take up DVDs or CDs. The multimedia files should work correctly, though for the .wma files you will either need to download Windows Media Player for Mac or Flip4Mac, a software that lets you run ".wma" files in QuickTime, but I find to be using Windows Media Player anyway. For your Microsoft Office files, as long as you have Microsoft Office for Mac they should run seamlessly. Outlook files will transfer over to a program called Entourage. Though these can be transfered, not everything can be such as items with the extension ".exe", etc.

  • How to import non-HD movies from old iMovie

    Hi there,
guess I am a little bit late for this, but until recently I had still the old iMovie (6 ?) version installed - whereas after migration to Snow Leopard and iMovie 09 (?) the older iMovie version isn't there anymore.
So, how do I import the old movies - not in HD format - into my HD Event Library without unnecessary conversion? It seems that the import via File->Import->iMovie HD Projects is not the right way, as it upscales my smaller format to the Large ("false" HD) format.
Tried to find answers in the forum but without result.
    Thanks for any tips!

    1. The iPhone can only work with SIMs made (coded) for the iPhone. SIMs from other phones will not work (though an iPhone SIM can work in an older phone).
    2. The iPhone doesn't read nor write to the SIM and has no option to import from a SIM.
Best bet (what I did) was obtain the the software Motorola has that will allow you to interact with the Razr (which I use to have). The software they have has their own address book reader to bring contacts into their own proprietary address book on the computer. Once in, it has an export feature (export to .CSV/.TXT file). From there I imported them into Outlook. Then synced with the iPhone and Outlook.
I did all that back when I first bought two iPhones for my wife and I when the first generation iPhone came out.

  • Importing a AVCHD movie from the Panasonic TZ20

I have bought a Panasonic TZ20 but the manual mentions that the AVCHD format from Panasonic is not supported by Mac !!!! How can I import a AVCHD movie to store in Full HD on my Macbook Pro using the SD card or USB cable? Is the issue the OS or iPhoto ? What about iMovie, is there a version that supports this format (Final Cut Pro is not a not a cheap solution) ?
    Thanks,
    Alain.

Thanks 'Neuroanatomist" - brilliant, this works - but obviously takes longer than being able to do it directly in iMOvie '08!
Let's hope we can SOON do all this directly

  • Capturing movie from dv camcorder

Hi there, do you know if I can capture the movie from my dv camcorder as many takes (as it was originally recorded) not as only one?

    Steve,
I read the question as "Scene Detect," as it appears, so do you.
