Importing Illustrator files into AE CS6 render lo-res in final output video

Everything imports, loads, plays and renders from Illustrator into AfterEffects CS6. When I render the final video, the AI files are appearing lo-res in the HD video (1280x720).
Do I have a lo-res output setting turned on?

What version of After Effects? Include the minor version number (e.g., After Effects CS5.5 with the 10.5.1 update).
CS6
Have you installed the recent updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.)
No, but I don't think this has anything to do with an update.
What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.6.8"---not just "Mac".
Mac OS X 10.8
What kind(s) of source footage? When telling about your source footage, tell us about the codecs, not just the container types. For example, "H.264 in a .mov container", not just "QuickTime".
Adobe Illustrator CS6 file
If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)?
No errors
What were you doing when the problem occurred?
The AI file is not rendering hi-res
Has this ever worked before?
No
What other software are you running?
Photoshop CS6 and Illustrator CS6
Do you have any third-party effects or codecs installed?
No
Tell us about your computer hardware. Include CPU type and number of processor cores, amount of RAM installed, GPU, number of disk drives, and how any external drives are connected.
Mac Mini with 8 GB of RAM, 500 GB hard drive, 2.5 GHz duo-core Intel i5
Do you have any third-party I/O hardware (e.g., AJA, Matrox, Blackmagic, MOTU)?
No
Are you using OpenGL features in After Effects?
No
Does the problem only happen with your final output, RAM preview, or both?
Preview and final output
Are you using Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously multiprocessing?
No
Screen shot of HD video. Graphic to right of (live action) actor is not rendering hi-res.

• Import Illustrator file into Flash

I'm using Flash CS4 and I want to import an *AI file that contains the shapes of Europe's countries. The thing is that each country has a filling of dots (blue or yellow) instead of a solid color. Here is a screenshot of my Illustrator screen:http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/6983/testedd.jpg
When I import the AI into Flash all these dots become rasterized and everything looks like squashed because, I no longer have vector dots but instead bitmaps. Example of the exported SWF: http://takeab.us/SPL_embed/index_carte.html
(try and right-click and Zoom In; you'll see how bad it looks)
So, what's the best way in importing an AI file and keeping also the vector shapes? I've tried with a version EPS and still no hope.

Well object expand is what I did then copy and paste, I am not certain of the reason to crop.
this is what i got when I expanded copied and pasted. so I do not think the crop is necessary it pastes as a symbol and the symbol is clipped which I think is what you want.
But if in this case you want the stroke as well once you select anyone of the countries they have no stroke according t the tool bar proxy and so it you give it a stroke using say a swatch and then expand copy and paste you get both the fill and the stroke if you desire the stroke as well.
In the case of France and Paris once you paste those into Flash after you stroke and expand then you select both the city and the country and make that into a symbol so that they are one.
And I notice from the art you sent all you have to do is select a country expand, copy, paste and then undo the expand and you are good t go do your work.

• Best way to import illustrator files into motion

Whats the best way to import titles created in Illustrator into Motion5?
Thanks in advanced for any help.

Exporting as PDFs and importing into Motion is great. However, if your illustration is a grouping of paths intended for animation (e.g. a face with lips and eyes that you'd like to animate independently) then the PDF method can become fairly tedious.
Unfortunately Motion doesn't support Adobe Illustrator's compound path type. Coming from Adobe AfterEffects I was fairly disappointed in this since much of what I did in AfterEffects required animation of my compound path vector art. However, compound paths can be simulated using masks in Motion fairly easily and although this method has limitations it works very well.
Using Adobe's API I've written a free plugin for Illustrator called "Motionize" which allows an Illustrator user to select a shape in their Illustrator file and export it to a single Motion shape file. It supports simple shapes, lines, groups and compound paths as well. There is a sample file included to get you started and I would appreciate any feedback via my site as to how it can be improved.
It currently supports only one selected item at a time and does not support gradients though I am working on these issues. I hope it helps! I use this too so it's something under constant development.

HELP!!!
SGAREN

Hello Sally,
First, I have only heard/read good things about the book Steve recommends. It is on my to buy list one day. Been awaiting a long deserved vaction to pick it up to read.
I approach XML files pretty much like I do any text file I am sent in that I will import or copy/paste a text file into a frame in ID and begin setting my styles. With XML, though, I first clean it up, move closing tags up to their logical close lines, remove spurious codes that mean something in HTML but don't necessarily belong in the XML file (like &#x2019 which is an apostrophe so I do a search and replace. But for which is a non-breaking space I simply search and replace with a regular space in general), and make sure the XML validates.
Validation is much like making sure an HTML page is formed properly. I use an XML editor (XML BluePrint) and a text editor (UltraEdit) for these tasks. If I had to only have one or the other, I suppose the XML editor is what I would use.
I always show the import options when I import the XML and make sure that I link to the file.
So once a sample of the XML is on a page in ID (via File | Import XML), I highlight text within a tag, say like in your example above, the Providor name, and make it like I want and then create a new style. I generally name the styles as per the XML tag. Later on, that makes mapping tags to styles a little easier.
Once I set up all the styles preliminarily, I map the tags to styles. You can do that either via the Tags palette or via the Structure Pane that will appear once the XML is imported. In both cases, it is found via the flyout menu at the top right of their respective windows.
After mapping my styles to the tags, I select the root element in the Structure Pane (the topmost element. In your sample above it is "providors" and delete it. This removes the XML in your ID file. But the styles and tags are still present.
Then I import the XML again and look to makes sure all the tags/elements are styled as intended. I then correct any errors/ommissions. Then...I'll delete the XML again and import the full XML file.
I can upload what I did with your XML sample above so you can compare it to your source file if you would like. You would then see how/where I moved tags. Now, moving the tags is only "necessary" to avoid all the extra blank paragraphs. That can be accomplished by ID's search/replace, too. But I like to start out with the XML cleaned up, so I take the few minutes to do it.
Take care, Mike

• Import Word file into PP CS6?

Is there way to import a Word .docx file into Premiere Pro? It's a long document that I'd like to slowly scroll for about 10 minutes.

I did actually mean to write "Scroll" in previous post rather than "Crawl", my mistake.
Scroll is like movie credits. Create your Scroll title, then on timeline you can drag to any length desired, which affects the speed of the scroll. If you open the title again in the Titler, at upper left next to font selection there is an icon for "Scroll options" - this adds some additional parameters affecting the behavior of the scroll like Start Off Screen, or Ease In, etc.

• Problem importing .mov file into Photoshop CS6

I recently bought a canon 600D and I am trying to edit a 1080p video in photoshop CS6, however whenever it won't let me import the video. When I try to open it via File>open, it tells me 'Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file.' and when I try to drag and drop it it tells me 'Could not place the document ‘MVI_0710.MOV’ because no parser or file format can open the file.'
I'm not a professional at all so I could be missing something very basic! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What system are you on? Which PS version? 32bit or 64 bit? Sounds like the required qtserver/ dynamiclink stuff is not running and you are using the 64bit version.

It's not a matter of exporting a file that Windows will recognize; it's a matter of exporting a file format that Illustrator can import or open.
A Mac OS version of Canvas is under development, by the way.

• Importing adobe illustrator files into powerpoint. (Vector)

How can I import vector Illustrator files into Powerpoint, so I can edit them later. I have tried PDF (won't work), WMF text breacks up and scaling makes the text crap!

Need to edit the graphic colour and change update text.
Then you can't build it in Illustrator; at least not all of it.*
...or create in Power point...
.That's your answer. Ultimately, Powerpoint-editable = Powerpoint native.
...which is very limited!
Are you just assuming that, or have you actually tried to do something and found it impossible? Plenty of drawing can be done in Powerpoint, and text is text. What exactly are you trying to do?
*If you are running Windows, there are ways to get straight Illustrator vectors (no live effects, blends, meshes, etc.) onto a Powerpoint slide using Paste Special. Forget text though, seeing as you need it live and editable in Powerpoint...you'll have no choice but to set it in Powerpoint.

• Importing PDF file into CS6

Hello,
I am using the trial version of CS6 to see if this software would work best for what our company would like to accomplish. I currently have a pdf file that contains a parts book I would like to convert into a digital publication but I can not seem to figure out how to do so. I am using this book as our test to see the ease of use and overall quality of the software. Any suggestions on how to import my file into CS6?
Thank you in advance.

The end result is we are looking for a software that we can use to create digital copies of everything from Employee handbooks to Sales Binders.
That is a fine idea.
Does that help? I need a software where we can not only design new pages but also import in pages that already exsist.
If the pages that already exist are only available to you in PDF format, then you have a rough slog ahead of you. I'd go so far as to call your project Nigh Impossible. However, if you can get your hands on the source files from which those PDFs were generated, then it becomes Kinda Possible. So, like Mike, I'd want to ask first whether or not those source files were available to you, and what format they were made in.
I'd also like to repeat Bob's point that you cannot become enough of an expert in InDesign to know whether or not it would be a suitable product for your project in thirty days - unless you were already experienced in something like Quark or Ventura.
Lastly: what the heck do you mean by "digital publication"? Do you just mean "a file"? I guess so, since you are comparing against printed binders. But it's hard to tell.

• Importing Photoshop files into premiere pro CS6 issues

Hi
I recently re-installed Premiere Pro CS6 on my work computer (i changed from a HDD to an SSD). Ever since I did this I am having an issue importing .PSD files into Premiere.
I try and import a photoshop file. The importer window comes up. The progress bar starts to move, then pauses and the Importer says 'Not Responding'. After a few seconds it comes back and throws up the following error:
Error message - 'The importer reported a generic error'
All projects i previously worked on that had .PSD files in them are now reporting these files as 'Media Offline' meaning I have to replace them with .PNG files which is really annoying.
Any ideas what might be happening? The files I am trying to import are RGB .PSD's. They worked previously without any issues.
I have Premiere Pro Version 6.0.5 (001 (MC: 264587))
running on a Windows 7 machine with Service Pack 1, 64 bit OS, 16GB Ram and Intel Core i7-2600
Many thanks in advance for anyone who can help me with this!

Yes, MXF should play perfectly in PP CS6, but if you can't work this out at this point, you may wrap your MXF video to something intermediate. as a matter of face, Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 seems to work fine if you import your MXF clips directly from a camera or camcorder, but if have already copied MXF recordings your HDD or you downloaded them from somewhere else, the import error may occur.
So i suggest you convert the MXF footage to something mezzanine we would recommend DNxHD.mov (if you are on a PC) or Apple ProRes .mov (if on a mac). those two intermediate codecs are good mezzanine codecs that handle recompression well and standup well in other areas of post-production (color grading, graphics, compositing, etc,). You can see what I wrote about the solution. "Why Premiere Pro CS6 can't import MXF files?" i hope that it is helpful to you.

• Importing uncompressed NewTek SpeedEdit .RTV files into AfterFX CS6

Trying to import NewTek SpeedEdit .RTV files into AfterFX CS6. These .rtv files were rendered out back in 2008, & was then able to import them into AfterFx. NewTek had a plug-in for me to install which they thought would work, but AfterFx CS6 does not show / recognise the .RTV extension. I do not use or have SpeedEdit anymore, but would appreciate any knowledge of anyone who would know of any software I could use to convert these .rtv files, or if there is still a way for AfterFx to import these files like it used to. ( I don't have a thousand dollars to pay to buy NewTek SpeedEdit just to read & convert a few .rtv files ).

My guess is that their old plugin was written for CS4 and earlier. Back then After Effects was 32-bit. After Effects (since CS5) is now a 64-bit program and all old plugins have to be rewritten or they won't work.
If you've still got your old version of After Effects, you might be able to pull this off with that.

• I need help with Importing my Illustrator file into After Effects, I'm having problems

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum. I am having a hard time importing this Illustrator file into After Effects. Here's how it is in the Illustrator file
As you can see, I made all the layers separate so then when I import it I can work on each and every one. (I want them to bloom from the center)
but when I import to After Effects (I ask to import the composition and retain the layers), the size looks completely different:
Then when I drag down the layers folder to the Comp Panel, the layer order starts getting really messed up. Here is what I am talking about
What am I doing wrong and how can I fix it? Also how can I figure out how to let the petals boom? I'm thinking of scaling the center larger first and then scaling the petals from there. but first I have to figure out how to get the size distortion and the layer orders right. Thanks.

You need to open the comp not drag layers in a new comp.

• I am having horrendous problems importing XD-CAM files into Premiere CS6

Please tell me if there is a fix for importing XD-CAM .MXF files into Premiere CS6 6.0.0. Have tried the import and the media browser functions. The paths look like this:
PROAV
CLPR
CMPTR
EDTR
USERDATA
Let me know how to do this.....

Also, update your Premiere to 6.0.3 on PC, or 6.0.2 on Mac.
And transfer the entire folder structure from media to hard drive without modifications. That includes any Sony transfer utility, just use Windows to copy stuff straight over.
Then use Media Browser as directed previously
